You can get stickers to put in your windows to keep birds from flying into them. We have them on our big picture windows and the birds have stopped flying into them. Love me some New Riff as well. Their ryes are very nice!!
A friend picked up a bottle of this at the distillery for me. Distillery only bottle currently. Cracked it open last Friday night. Very good! Your nosing notes made want to fire up the grill. 🥃
I picked this up a couple of weeks ago and I agree with your assessment. Savory and spicy. I sampled out almost the entire bottle. I blinded it against the bib and the spice is really the only similarity. The bib sweet classic flavors but a little thin. The 8yr savory and much better mouthfeel. Appreciate the review
A few years ago - we kept having a robin attack our back window on a regular basis nearly all day. I did some research on Google and apparently the Robin could be one that is attempting to protect its territory - and find a new mate - and would attack any other Robin in the vicinity - including the yard. Apparently they see their reflection in the window glass and think its a another male Robin in its 'territory' and attempts to attack or scare it away. This went on for about 3 weeks until one day it was gone.
My wife got me a blending experience at New Riff for my birthday. They have a sample of what they make and then supply samples from 3 different, fairly distinct barrels from which to create your own blend. Then you fill a bottle with your blend. Grover, the host, does a great job explaining everything. They have a couple of things you can only get where they do this particular experience. I picked up the 8 year and a few others. I kept pointing at things and my wife kept adding them to the tab.

The new rift single barrel has always had a hint of sassafras tea to me, just food for thought to stick that in your head while you’re sipping. As I a small kid my grandmother would take me into the woods in the winter and dig sassafras to make tea with every bottle I’ve bought for some reason that’s popped in my head when I taste it. I live in Virginia work in Maryland. I just came across a bottle of that eight year. I think I’m going to open it as we speak.
I had a big tom turkey that pecked at my patio door for 2 days. Big bird......pecked the h*ll out of the door, thought he was going to break the glass! Great to see an 8 year old at a somewhat more reasonable price. I still believe that it can be done and should be done for the long term growth of the industry. I also hope the distilleries laying down more barrels will lead to more age stated releases in the future. (ad nauseum $70 ish bottles of 4 year old NDP stuff). A man can hope! That said, there are plenty of non-age stated bottles out there that we know are 6-8-10 year old blends for $30-$40....... Cheers! New Riff puts out solid releases, haven't been disappointed yet!

Looking for one I’ve never had a New Riff yet but planning on changing that soon. I’d never had a Penelope till I got the 9 year now I’m a fan. The funk on some bottles is what I like.

This is the perfect review for showing pallette differences. All youtube reviews of Larceny seem to love it,whereas to me and frankly most of my sipping group it tastes like battery acid. Four roses is one that does not get high praise from youtube or most of my tasting group, but I love it. It is extremely pear forward to me which is unique and a flavor I like. Proof really is not a consideration because Larceny is 92 proof at hits me like pure acid, but rare breed is great. The c series of the larceny barrel proof is 126 proof and that was easier to drink than regular larceny. I still hated it, but i am just glad to see videos that show differences in pallettes.
I had a phsycotic Robin attacking my windows constantly. If you have blinds on all your windows that will deter him. He will move to another window if you cover just one. It was extremely annoying and he will also poop everywhere when they attack. I tried everything. Oh and he will come back yearly. The only thing that worked was a spray that made the windows milky colored. It also had some kind of pepper in it. Left it up for a week then washed it off with a hose. I think I got it at home depot or Menards. It said it was for all kinds of animals.
I love New Riff but not sure about this one from the description. I'll have to try a pour of it at the Aquifer Bar next time I am down there to judge for myself.
Got a new riff single barrel here in GA last year( don’t think it was supposed to be in GA at that time) I get the opposite from it sweet and taste like green apple
I have only have one new riff and it was a single barrel at 116 proof. It was a decent pour but definitely drank at 116 proof or hotter. Really good over a cube of ice but not neat

Good soy sauce is matured in large wooden barrels, it is a fermented product and can be matured over a long time. So maybe what you describe is indeed an emptied soy sauce barrel!

You guys seem to find savory notes in bourbon quite a bit, which is wild to me. I've never found any bourbon to be savory. Scotch? Sure. Bourbon? Definitely no savory notes to speak of.

Pick this up the past week at a local store for $74.99 plus tax. It's quite different and not your stereotypical bourbon which I can appreciated as bourbon gets boring as they are all the same usually.
Yeah, that robin sees itself, thinks its another bird on it's territory and is trying to chase it off. If you can, put a screen in front of the window so that the robin won't see itself and that it won't beat itself up conking into the glass constantly. Should only need to do that for a week or two until it's raging hormones cool down some.
Bird may be seeing its own reflection in the glass of the window thinking it is another bird threatening its territory.

8 is great! I found one today for around $80 but not mad it was over MSRP. I agree this is the best of their SiB with maturity.
