I was recently in my local liquor store in Fenton Michigan and they had a store pick, Mammoth Northern Rye. He let me try an open bottle in the back and I was TOTALLY sold! It's a single barrel, 132 proof and aged 16 years for $95. I don't have many good bottles to compare it with, but it sure blows the socks off bottles like Jack Daniels single barrel BP and Elijah Craig A123. It's nothing like any other ryes I've tried, sweeter and less spicy, hard to explain just hands down the best whiskey I've ever had and everyone I've let try it agrees. If anyone is ever in Fenton, stop into Merchant's Gourmet Wine and grab a bottle while they last.
There are small stores that have Rebel 10 and High West Bourye on their shelves in Texas. I would love to find a small cache of plastic top Early Times BIB in a small shop in Texas. We know. I loved High West's Barrel Pick Program. Sad to hear that they're changing it. It was so cool that you could compare so many different finishes to the base product.
Uh oh! Did not know High West is stopping the barrel picks! 😮 Gonna have to grab a couple extras that I liked. Particularly the Peated Scotch barrel finish and the Aquviate finish from a Buy Rite in my area.
