    Some of the things I love about the V Star 1300 are the hardtail look, the excellent lean angles (35 & 36 degrees), the acceleration (with aftermarket pipes, fuel controller or tune, and CAI they will run the quarter in the 12s with 0-60 under 4 seconds), fuel efficiency (I routinely get 48+ MPG running it hard in the mountains of Wyoming), and responsive handling partly due to the 48%/52% front/rear weight distribution. The bulletproof drivetrain is a big plus, as well. The first replacement rear tire on my '07 was a Metzler 180/70-16. While it was nice to eliminate much of the factory speedo error, it ended up slick from chicken strip-to-chicken strip in under 4,000 miles. Ended up going darkside with a 205/60-16 BF Goodrich on back.

    • @dbest1aVlogs
      @dbest1aVlogs  3 роки тому +1

      Glad to hear you have had great experience with your 1300 too. Yes you are right about the acceleration . Once you get going in that 1st gear it can take you by surprise haha. Also yes you are right about the pipes , they do add extra oomph. Granted I didn't care for the extra noise.
      Tires .. man So far the c2 has been my better experience. I keep hearing iffy things about the 888s.

      @@dbest1aVlogs If I go back to a motorcycle tire on the rear, it will be an Avon Cobra Chrome. Doesn't have quite the tread life of a Commander (still very good, though), but they are GRIPPY. I have the C2 on the front of my 1300, and it feels very "wooden" and it's really hinky in the wet...I've almost lost the front end twice riding in rain, even though I take it super-easy when the roads have any water on them.

    Excellent Review...I went from a Kawasaki Vulcan 800 to the 2007 V-Star 1300. Best decision ever. Love the way it rides and sounds. Like you, I don't want my bike obnoxiously loud. Therefore, I drilled out the baffle and got just the sound I was looking for. Great looking bike Bro.

    • @dbest1aVlogs
      @dbest1aVlogs  3 роки тому

      Thank you, and congrats on the new bike. Yes the exhaust drilling is a trade off. The bike losses a little responsiveness also, but there is just less noise on long 3hr+ rides. After a while the loud pipes get a bit annoying especially at speeds above 70. Below 55 it isn't bad. Loosing the responsiveness kind of sucks, but it is what it is I guess.
      Our bikes are geared tall n that's a good n bad thing for a cruiser. Great when you wanna get in it , sucks when you just want to mellow out chill cruise.
      Wishing you plenty of safe miles on your vstar , be sure the clutch recall was done and lube that clutch and throttle wires every so often.

    I'm a bit surprised you didn't mention a lack of cruise control. I remember how much you liked the one on that Harley you test rode at Americade. Anyway, I can't wait for your 84k review (haha).
    May you and yours have a very Merry Christmas, B.

    • @dbest1aVlogs
      @dbest1aVlogs  3 роки тому +1

      Hehe , Cruise Control would definitely be a nice addition, but at a price point of 10k... You won't hear me crying about it . Honestly my biggest gripe with this bike would be the eco tune. I find it pretty horrible. Especially so, coming from a Carb tuned Buell Blast. Now just imagine ...a cv40 carb, with shimmed needle, dial a jet to enrich mixture at high altitudes and a manual tune ignition being smoother than this efi system with all the limiting crap added just to make it emissions legal.
      That is my main gripe.
      The Harley , well any of them with cruise control is wonderful, I did love that feature. Just being able to flick up and down to control speed is really nice . At the price point though , 10k more... I would expect nothing less definitely.

    • @DarioCruz92
      @DarioCruz92 3 роки тому

      That's a good point about the 10k requirement. It's nice but not a necessity.
      And don't even talk about emission regulations. It's almost impossible to buy any out of state cars or motorcycles in California. The regulations here are as strict as in Europe. I do have to admit that the air quality is so much better than 30 years ago. The price of breathing I guess.

    Great review. If you really want to see an improvement on those front brakes, rebuild that master cylinder. I did that on my 15 and changed out the hoses to another set of stock ones and added a new set of stock rotors to it and it stopped better than when it was new. Great bike all around. I hated to get rid of mine, but mine had 53K on it and wanted something different.

    Excellent video as always! You are the best UA-cam source for the 1300. Had mine for a while 29K and love it!! I find the Cobra slip on to be just the right amount of sound but again I haven't been on long rides either. This year I am considering lowering the rear suspension an inch or so. Do you have any experience with PCS dog bones?

    • @dbest1aVlogs
      @dbest1aVlogs  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you for the kind words . They are always appreciated. As for the dog bones , they should not be hard to install . The right, brake side may take a little more work due to the bolts being a little more difficult to get out. The reservoir bottle may be in the way.
      As for the cobra it sounds awesome, but I just wanted less noise. Some will like it. Hopefully the guy I sold it to will enjoy it. He got a heck of a deal. Hehe

    Loved your Video Dbest. Have had 2 1300s in the past, sold one when a Victory Cross Country (fabulous bike I still own) came up for sale near me in summer 2017. Had a 15 red deluxe also in 2020. I always have 2 bikes and have decided to go get another 1300 tourer or deluxe, but am trending towards the tourer so I can put on the Reckelss clone Usa stealth fairing. Curious as to what is the extended width windshield you have on yours as it sure would help with wind management. This time I will get the Ivan's flash. Do you think just a K and N filter would do the job vs your cobra. I will only run Oem pipes, as I do not like loud pipes and oem sound pretty good anyway. From Ivan's chart, most hp and tq gains come from an open air filter. Come winter I will do front suspension as you advised. What a great informative video you produced.

      Sometimes with these reviews is hard to cover everything. The Vic CC is a worthy upgrade to the 1300 . Even just being air cooled. The added power n lean angle is really nice. . So with the 1300, just a KnN is good too. You would just want to add a few holes in the cover .. this would help to let a little more air get in . It will also give a little more responsiveness too. I got the cobra intake at a steal of someone used. Lol. I love it though. The flash was a big help for my bike. As it with just the intake n drilled exhaust left a lot to be desired. The bikes behavior was not very good.
      The exhaust. Well I have a few videos on that. You could see in maintenance Playlist. Under cobra install n test n such. The set up I had was the intake , flash, cobra slip on with baffle wrapped in stove rope. Then I had the fuel tuner from cobra. When I finally got it tuned up nice . She would pin you back in the seat through 1st n 2nd lol.. really pulled hard.
      I only sold the exhaust due to I hated the noise. Lol.

    love the channel ! I have a 2009 electra glide. Looking at one of these though. Guy wants 9k it has 6,500 miles on it. Does this bike do 80mph comfortably ? also how does this bike handle on highway winds . stay blessed !

    • @dbest1aVlogs
      @dbest1aVlogs  2 роки тому

      80mph , I'm gonna have to say yes and no.
      Yes it will do it. All day long. But at those speeds your pretty high in the revs. 70 is a bit more comfortable, even 75 . Still revs are about 3500 or so there.
      So yes it can do 80 , shoot it'll run 90, but it won't be as comfortable as the bigger bikes with bigger motors, and 6 gears with different gearing.
      This bike does great on backroads. N with the ecu flash from Ivan is a dream. It has a long wheelbase so tight corner roads can be a bit of chore, but longer sweeper backroads are nice.
      If I were looking for a sole highway bike, I would choose this, I'd maybe go for the eluder , venture or even a stratoliner.
      My highway speeds tend to be 65 to 75.
      Thanks for watching.

    Hey there! This is absolutely the best vstar 1300 related channel on YT man! I am the vstar 1300 tourer owner and was looking for the two things recently; the cobra slip on exhaust and the heated grips :) And guess what - I've found it right here :) Thank you for both videos! Anyway, I have 2 questions; I saw you've changed back the exhaust to stock, is it because the cobra sound was blowing the head off on the long distance rides? Secondly, are you happy with the Oxford heated grips? I'm gonna change mine next week, was thinking about the same model but with chrome controller. My only doubt is that the Oxfords look simply awful comparing them to the OEM. But yeah I know, here comes the look vs the serviceableness. But I am curious what your thoughts are about those heaters. Thank you in advance buddy, cheers! :)

      The cobra exhaust wasn't too bad with noise, but that's only after I wrapped the pipe baffle in stove rope. Also I got a 2nd baffle from smartpartz. Not available any longer. This baffle helped me to reduce the noise while cruising down the road at 70+ . You loose a bit of top end omph though, but gain back some down low omph. So depends on where you spend your time, raving up high or moderate cruising.
      The issue, was the pipe was starting to bubble n rust. So I decided to sell it and for now go back to stock.
      The Oxford grips are great .
      - see the install videos in the maintenance playlis titled Oxford.
      Yes your right, they don't look the greatest , that I can't argue. I won't even try to deny lol. Now as for function, man they are amazing. They have come in handy on so many occasions when riding and things get a bit chilly. If where you live the Temps get cold , you will really appreciate them.
      At times my night commutes home can be a little chilly, and just 2 taps and it's just a little more comfort.
      Again I agree, not the best looking , but good lord they work amazing.
      Another time me and another vlogger Ncstoney (check his channel) were riding up the Blue Ridge parkwY . The Temps suddenly dropped and we hit rain. My fingers got cold n tap tap .... heated grips on. Ahhhh just a little relief went a long way till off Mt.Mitchell.
      Thanks for the kind words. It Is very much appreciated.
      Stay safe

      @@dbest1aVlogs bunch of thanks for your response! Yeah, I've already liked it in FB :) Regarding the cobras; most of my trips are around 300-400 km in one go, so not a very long ones. But in the summer time me & my friends are getting out for a longer all weekend trips, that is why I am kinda in to minds; to change the stock pipe or not to change it (well I can sell it if it will be two loud but I will lose the price I think.. not quite sure if this kind of experiment make sense). Acoordingly to grips - yeah the october in Poland is pretty chilly, I was hoping that my Rukka gloves with goretext and goregrip will handle the temp, but I was wrong :) Now it is the time for the Oxfords - thank you for your confirmation of it :)

      I'll get back to you. Those are the custom dynamics rear inserts. They have to be wired into the the rear brake light .. which was a bit of a chore. That signal wire can only be accessed from the underside under the panel. I had a previous feed wire going under there which powers my other aux brake light. Dbest1a, 1st , Love your videos!! 2nd, I have basically the same exact bike as yours...mine(2008) as well as how you have it set up. I noticed you went back to the stock exhaust, just tired of louder pipes? 3rd, I am putting progressive shocks in my front as well hopefully I will notice a big difference. I also have the Ivan's flash (amazing) Ivan told me to remove the Cobra fi2000 which I did. But I put it back in and it is running even better and my fuel economy is around 48 around town and around 52 on Highway! V Star is a great bike, Love mine! Thanks again for the time you put into your videos! Great Job! Oh the Freedom shield I guess that's #4 LOL what is the height of it or the link where you got it please?

    • @dbest1aVlogs
      @dbest1aVlogs  3 роки тому +1

      Hehe. Glad to see your enjoying your Vstar . The exhaust.. I've just grown tired of noise. Lately I'm finding , I don't want to rip and roar . I don't need pipes to turn heads. I just want to cruise , and enjoy the sights.
      I think the stock drilled baffles is more than enough noise for me.
      The only thing I miss is there was a little response loss in acceleration and feel. Less noise though.
      If I really want fast and quite ill go to a wing.
      So for now I'm fine with the drilled both ends stock. I can do a good 300 mile day with a lot less audio wear.
      The progressive fork springs are a great help. I like above 15wt oil with it. You can play with fluid height, and spacer length to mitigate response in the front end.
      To big of a spacer and get harsh bump hits in front.
      I think im running 2.7" spacer. Somewhere in that area. Then I played with fluid height to fine tune the ride. It's very time consuming due to bike design.
      The freedom shield I got from their website. Just throw a .net on the end. It is for the reckless fairing though. Which a copy of a older harley fairing.
      It's 10" in height, a little tall. Maybe could have gone 9, but it's fine. Works great.
      The shield is also the touring shield, so it's wider than normal. Hahaha. Oh man riding behind that thing is a dream.
