For any newbie who is as clueless as I am and was watching summaries hoping to know more about the Baldur's Gate itself, apparently the "Baldur's Gate" is NOT an actual gate to somewhere, but the name of a city named after a regional large gate. "Baldur's Gate, also called simply the Gate, was the largest metropolis and city-state on the Sword Coast, within the greater Western Heartlands. It was a crowded city of commerce and opportunity, perhaps the most prosperous and influential merchant city on the western coast of Faerûn. Despite its long-standing presence as a neutral power, the leaders of Baldur's Gate were members of the Lords' Alliance of powers in the west. The strong peace-keeping force known as the Watch, along with the presence of the powerful Flaming Fists mercenary company, kept the city generally peaceful and safe. This inherent sense of security allowed the Gate to keep a tolerant and welcoming attitude towards outsiders, whether they were wealthy merchants, poor refugees or, as it historically attracted, less-scrupulous individuals such as pirates and smugglers." "Baldur's Gate was divided into three main sections, as shown in the map to the right. The Upper City was the walled region to the north. The Lower City was the portion between the Old Wall and the River Chionthar. The Outer City was the shantytown that rose up along the roads to the city and around Dusthawk Hill." "People and things from Baldur's Gate were known as "Baldurian". The term "Balduran" was never used-misusing the founder's name even like this was a grave insult to his memory and the city alike. Balduran was a legendary seafaring explorer and namesake of the city of Baldur's Gate." Now I know. As to why it's being spoken of in that wiki in a past tense.... idk, maybe I'll find out in the game or maybe as it just talks about the past it refers to it as "was"... Thanks for the summary, it was much better than gamestops tbh!
The past tense was really confusing for me when I started to play dnd and consulted the canon lore because it made it hard to distintuish the pieces of lore relevant to the present of the game. But I believe it might be like that because of the Tolkienien roots of the high fantasy genre where he basically set up his world as a long ago predecessor of our world.
I love their face expressions, you can tell they worked really hard on this one and i can see this game selling well on release. I will be playing it on release and I can't wait.
So I just beat BG3, took me 107 hours cause I just kept wandering and getting into things and I kinda have OCD when it comes to completing quests. I probably would've done it all in one sitting if it weren't for the limitations of the human body. That aside it is such an absolutely beautiful and amazing game. I came here to learn more about the world of Baldur's Gate and you sir, delievered. Thank you
Great work, Jack. Just noticed you were at 29.5k and not at 2 M. This channel is severely underrated. Subscribed and liked. Great video quality, appropriate scene choices, fluent and charismatic voice over, very logical and reasonable points, extremely coherent and easy to follow. I don't have any criticism, even constructive. Keep it up, Jack!
So the mindflayers are part of a bigger plot of some new deity called “The absolute”. The Absolute has something to do with the dead three (bhaal, Merkail, and Bane). Shar has been mentioned a lot as well. So there’s A LOT going on in BG3 (I’ve been playing early access and I play dnd in the Faerun setting)
Hey Jackdaw, I got a dragon age theory I need help with. The opposite of valor is dread. So I'm asking if the dread wolf is a corrupted spirit of valor. Yes Solas means pride or stand tall. Well what if he took that name to give pride to the elven slaves.
I did technically just finish my first 100+ hrs playthrpugh, but I'm feeling like to play more faithfully next time, I'm going to need to do some research. This video is helpful!
Join me as I take you on a deep dive into the story of Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, and explore how the events of those games set the stage for the epic adventure in Baldur's Gate 3! Let me know your thoughts on how much the previous game's narrative will make its way into BG3!
Good and simple recap, but please add spoiler warnings when you're talking about BG3's story, even if its the very beginning of the game. (6:47) Minor spoilers are still a spoilers. =/
Good video. I want to know more about each race and their origins. Like why do Tieflings get along with the surface races like humans if they’re from hell? I’m very confused about the lore in this series. Also there’s aliens like what
It's not the world of Faerun. That's the continent where the vast majority of the Forgotten Realms setting exists, specifically within the Sword Coast. The world is called Toril. As an aside, I was also kinda hoping you could summarize Descent Into Avernus, as it has been said that this campaign setting is in fact a mild precursor to the events of BG3.
Sarevok dies at the end of BG1, he´s the main boss. In ToB you can resurect him and take him as a companion. Even change his alignment to chaotic good, through conversations.
I appreciate the video, but as someone who has avoided literally all spoilers for 3, I wish you hadn’t added clips of 3. This isn’t a video about 3, it’s a video about the event leading up to it
Basically, first game people are coming after you for being a spawn of the murder god Bhaal, they are causing trouble in Baldur's gate and are also your siblings, you stop them. Second game is siblings fighting each other but this time it's an evil wizard coming after you. The DLC is all the siblings fighting in a war and it doesn't matter because after they all die Bhaal respawns.

I just started playing i thought baldurs gate was a gate/portal 😅😂
It's spoken in the past tense because the wiki is like that, there isn't a reason but for flavour

You should do this before Dreadwolf drops as well! I’m sure there are plenty of people that need a refresh.
There are*
Definitely will! Thank you for the idea!
Was just playing Origins last night, man what a masterpiece of a game that one is.
@@Girardn95 Stop. Your making me want to replay it ha!
This comment aged like milk 😭
Aren’t all children ball spawn?
Well done sir 👏
Haha. 👍
just hit 102 hours in the early access, so excited for release
ITS HAPPENING
Technically, we’re all ballspawn
that roll of 1 and the mindflayer spaz out ahahaha
Never played the Originals, but i did play Dark Alliance. And fucking loved that
I'm thinking maybe Viconia DeVir may even make a return, as the high priestess of Shar, and Shadowheart's superior.
Great work, Jack.

I think I’m starting to understand the lore in this series now. I was lost and a bit overwhelmed when I first started the game.
Wow.. srsly can u atleast write spoiler alert or smth???? Smh

I'm replaying 1 and 2 right now
this game is so good, game of the year when it comes out in my opinion
You called it!
This aged perfectly lmao
Wait... If the main protagonist is Bhaal spawn.... Does that mean... The Dark Urge.... Is potentially the canon protagonist.
Well, thank you, i just saved 300hrs of BG1&2 gameplay, i finished them LONG time ago😂😂

Can you please also look into how Descent Into Avernus plays into this story?
Remember guys, it's ''Ball'', not ''Baal''!
Balls, the god of murder. Has a nice ring to it. :)
What I don't get is origins. Where did the mins flayers come from? Humans and elves? Every other race.. This is still very new to me
I want to know what happened in three 100 and twenty something years between ToB and Bg3.
Edit: just started this video
I have some vague memories about this world since I read most Drizzt novels (until the translations started getting unreadably bad).
Good and simple recap, but please add spoiler warnings when you're talking about BG3's story, even if its the very beginning of the game. (6:47)

From what I got reading the comments, this guy named Lord Ao rewrote the canon using the tablets of fate

is it releasing on console ?
Yes! It's releasing on PS5 on launch day, and the devs are working on an Xbox release ASAP!
Minsc must be pretty old
If he hadn't been turned into a stone statue sometime after BG2, he would be long dead before BG3.
So in the throne of bhaal expansion saravok died?
Sarevok dies at the end of BG1, he´s the main boss. In ToB you can resurect him and take him as a companion. Even change his alignment to chaotic good, through conversations.
but in the expansion does he survive or die at the end?@@carnasas
@@mrbrightside473if you choose to resurect him, he survives. He has an epiloge if you take him in your party till the end. you can google it
Baldurs Gate 3 for Playstation 5 German Version ?
I hire because GOTY,
play Turn Base RPG game after so longer ago play final fantasy x on ps2..
And yap this nice game ..
This is all irrelevant. Just tell us who Shar is, who the squids are etc. Events from hundreds of years ago don't reveal anything about BG3.
this guy sounds like keith lemon
I'm his secret twin!
I appreciate the video, but as someone who has avoided literally all spoilers for 3, I wish you hadn’t added clips of 3. This isn’t a video about 3, it’s a video about the event leading up to it
Nice, I always wanted a Gith girlfriend.
Why is baldur's gate so important tho?
I'm so lost.
Basically, first game people are coming after you for being a spawn of the murder god Bhaal, they are causing trouble in Baldur's gate and are also your siblings, you stop them. @@AlejandroCab98 Thank you !
why some of BG3 characters look like they were picked from some modern liberal city? 🤣
Its BAAL not Ball. Saying Ball that many times is really annoying.
Oh no. I just finished installing BG for the first time and I'm already bored at 4 minutes into this.
Hopefully none of this is important. Bye!
