BG1 and BG2 Enhanced are both absolutely worth playing by the way. You’ll need to Google a few unintuitive things but so long as you know that high Constitution is important regardless of your class, that you need to have spells ready to deal with things like level drain and petrification sometimes, and that AC and THAC0 are better if they’re lower rather than higher, you’ll be fine. Plus there’s a ‘story’ mode in the Enhanced versions which makes it impossible to die and makes you do extremely high damage so you can’t lose.

I have been really interested in starting this game on ps5 when it launches next month. I have never been a pc gamer but hope to get into it at some point. Basically when I can afford to build a decent machine lol. That being said, I never got the chance to play the first games. This is a really good recap and if I do decide to get into 3 I will be more knowledgeable for it.
as someone who has played so much BG1 and 2 over the years...some of these pronunciations bugged me 😅 Melissan = Meh-leh-sahn, Amelyssan = Ah-meh-leh-sahn I absolutely love BG1 and 2--still my favorite games in the world--and I am liking bg3, I don't really *count* it as Baldur's Gate 3 because, despite the callbacks, it is *not* a continuation of the Bhaalspawn storyline (yes, even counting a /particular/ origin). Yes, there are game series like Final Fantasy and Dragon Age where each game is kind of a standalone, but that's not how this series started. But that's all my opinion. also don't forget to mention the metric fuckton of mods for bg2 (and 1 to a lesser extent)
good recap. But the events told mentioned missing context and so little information about character mentioned, but the video good enough for 20min. recap Like when you recount the intro of the throne of Bhaal, you did mention where the character was and what the character/player did, but failed to mention that the land is in chaos because of the war between Bhaalspawn and there's a hunt persecution of children of bhaal. It seems need to watch more in-depth videos to know more about the lore before I jump into the game tho
It doesn't matter who makes the games, the devs of Baldurs Gate will never make me forget that on my first play through I killed Jaheria and Minsc because I only wanted Dynaheir and Khalid in my party, and neither will join you without their partners... flash forward to BG2 and Khalid and Dynaheir are murdered off screen and Jahiera and Minsc are alive again... and now I'm going to relive my shame again with BG3....
Holy smokes it was not necessary to go quest-by-quest through all the non-events of BG1 😅 Also, every bland dead-end BG1 potential party member named, yet no mention of Jan Jaansen?! Disgraceful!
I'd seen a picture of my 10th missing companion in bg3.... I'd also found a letter in Waukeen's Rest alluding that someone stole some ranger statue. How does someone steal a statue, I thought? Things are beginning to make sense...
lol, I had to replay it, i thought right at the end it was said, "you can start your journey a little Balder and a little wiser" lol, but sadly just bolder :P
I'd like to see a complete reboot of Baldur's gate 1 and 2, not just a touch up like the 'Enhanced Editions', but a complete overhaul of the bad AD&D system and updated to 3.5e at least.
SPACE HAMPTER?!! COUNT ME IN!!! ((I already bought it on steam (I meet minimum specs but medium settings seem possible) to support the game but now I must play and seek out this mystical hampter of the stars))
I'm kind of disappointed bg3 didn't mention or even namedrop Gromph. In the books, granted, Gromph resides in his new archmage tower near Neverwinter. Would have been cool to have a tie in with the Drow. The Neverwinter game does tend to tie in with the novels more often, however.
@jeanfrancozaratemarcial7916 its gameplay mechanics and general asthetics. It runs on the same engine as dos 2. I haven't played baldurs gate 1 or 2 but played dos 1 and 2. Sure its lore is based on baldurs gate but the actual game play is similar to dos
I've only played Baldur's Gate II and Icewind Dale II. I remember almost despairing after I realized I had no more fire or acid spells when I was fighting a troll. My being a pack rat saved me when I found an oil potion somewhere.
How hard was BG1 in 1998? I cheated my characters to straight-25 stats plus the best weapons and armor, and I *still* needed a dozen or more tries to defeat Sarevok. 😂
Uhm? that's not the final battle of Baldurs gate 1? Am i missing something. After the doppleganger and sav fight you go through the labrynth and fight him again.

Good vid. FYI Minsc is chaotic good and not true neutral.
I thought that was really weird and didn’t sound right. He always goes on about fighting for goodness.
By the time I finish watching this BG3 will drop its 1.0 release!
as someone who has played so much BG1 and 2 over the years...some of these pronunciations bugged me 😅 Melissan = Meh-leh-sahn, Amelyssan = Ah-meh-leh-sahn
I absolutely love BG1 and 2--still my favorite games in the world--and I am liking bg3, I don't really *count* it as Baldur's Gate 3 because, despite the callbacks, it is *not* a continuation of the Bhaalspawn storyline (yes, even counting a /particular/ origin). Yes, there are game series like Final Fantasy and Dragon Age where each game is kind of a standalone, but that's not how this series started. But that's all my opinion.
also don't forget to mention the metric fuckton of mods for bg2 (and 1 to a lesser extent)
BG2 still my favorite game amazing
good recap. But the events told mentioned missing context and so little information about character mentioned, but the video good enough for 20min. recap
Like when you recount the intro of the throne of Bhaal, you did mention where the character was and what the character/player did, but failed to mention that the land is in chaos because of the war between Bhaalspawn and there's a hunt persecution of children of bhaal.
It seems need to watch more in-depth videos to know more about the lore before I jump into the game tho
Thanks for this because I did not know what was happening
idk how i’d never heard of bg before bg3, but with how crazy popular bg3 got it makes sense😅
Why would anyone want that weakling Khalid around when you could have the man mountain Minsc have your back instead…
@@PerfectSense77 because Minsc and Jaheria are a bunch of try-hards. Their real "power" came from the people they rolled with.
Many thanks for this recap. (I humbly bow in your direction)
Hype! Great recap! Keep up the good work.
I’m sorry what? Minsc and his miniature space hamster boo? No… boo is a giant miniature space hamster
lol, I had to replay it, i thought right at the end it was said, "you can start your journey a little Balder and a little wiser" lol, but sadly just bolder :P
I'd like to see a complete reboot of Baldur's gate 1 and 2, not just a touch up like the 'Enhanced Editions', but a complete overhaul of the bad AD&D system and updated to 3.5e at least.
I can't believe you got me to watch the same video twice because you added a few seconds of extra footage...
i miss the days of the gametrailers recaps and retrospectives.
Lycanthropy made Shadows of Ahm super easy.
Heya, it’s me Imoen!
Fricken Jim Cummings as Minsc. No wonder he's a favorite haha
we rly got blessed with this realease ! Such a good game!
SPACE HAMPTER?!! COUNT ME IN!!! ((I already bought it on steam (I meet minimum specs but medium settings seem possible) to support the game but now I must play and seek out this mystical hampter of the stars))
Miniature GIANT space hamster*
5:48 it's Sarevok, not Saverok
Well, they clearly took a synopsis from the internet and wrote it wrong lol. Can't see these journos bothering to play BG1 and 2.
This guy has clearly played the original, because this is very well done apart from the koveras error
Do the Dark Alliance BG games tie in at all or are they a separate time/storyline?
BG2. One of the best RPGs ever made.
Thank you for this recapitulation video!
17:21 we're all ball-spawn
Icewind Dale was also an amazing game made by the same people. Where is my boy Drizzt though?
There's a little reference to the flaming fist's tendency to make false charges (zhentarim).
Honestly, Baldur's gate 3 is much more similar to divinity original sin 2 than Baldur's gate 1 or 2
Lore wise?? Nope, true sequel in that regard.
Gameplay wise?? Yeah, DOS 2 combat but a little bit more refined
In what ways? Lore? Certainly not this game is extremely faithful.
The boss stage at 19:00 looks almost like Cazadors boss fight room!
Did you just call Minsc True Neutral?
Ok, what about the first Baldur's Gate original expansion "Tales of the Sword Coast"?
I've only played Baldur's Gate II and Icewind Dale II. I remember almost despairing after I realized I had no more fire or acid spells when I was fighting a troll. My being a pack rat saved me when I found an oil potion somewhere.
How hard was BG1 in 1998? I cheated my characters to straight-25 stats plus the best weapons and armor, and I *still* needed a dozen or more tries to defeat Sarevok. 😂
Just finished BG1 on mobile. Can’t wait to play BG3 🤩
MINSK and BOO
BioWare did the first Baldurs Gate? Wild.
It's a minature GIANT space hamster
Go for the eyes Boo. Go for the eyes!
Evil around every corner--careful not to step in any!
I remember my dad playing this when I was a kid.
It is "Sarevok" and "Koveras". You keep mistaking their spelling and pronounciation. No hard feelings tho, it is confusing.
Because they never played those games.
Uhm? that's not the final battle of Baldurs gate 1? Am i missing something. After the doppleganger and sav fight you go through the labrynth and fight him again.
So many BG3 spoilers in this video, wow.
Eh, I did play Balders Gate 1 and 2, but it was like, 20 years ago, so I forget what happened. Thanks for summarising
