In 1993, a friend and I worked on the USF golf course, in Tampa. He was working one Saturday, and saw these 3 peculiar guys at the course. Turned out to be Primus, who were playing at the nearby auditorium that night. He ended up playing a round with them and got a free backstage pass to the show. I should have gone to work that Saturday.
Sweet. I got to see them up in Dallas on the Antipop tour. They actually opened for Primus, the original members. They played the entire Sailing the Seas of Cheese album! 🤘 Primus Sucks!
Not long after Seas of Cheese came out and I heard Jerry was a racecar driver I became a fan, that was 91', I remember spending many hours in my VW bus listening to Suck on This, still one of my personal favorite albums of all time. Larry, you're a bastard!
Les and Primus are God's gift to us older hard rock / punk guys. His talent and music really bridge the gap in so may ways. You should look into the "Claypool Lennon Delirium when you can my friend. Les and Sean Lennon make some serious jams. Much love to your channel :)
Les also bridged the gap from punk/metal to jam band music and funk. He was in a Spinal Tap like mocumentary called Electric Apricot and the Quest for Festeroo that is just wonderful. He's a drummer in that band and it's hilarious.
Grew up with them. I actually was there for this show. One of my top favorite bands of all time. The lyrics are actually always pretty clever, enough to match the amazing musicianship. They are just on another level.
Back around 92' - 93' I was attending school at a HBCU and working at the local pizza place when I met a fellow that became a good friend and we spent hours and hours listening to music. Not that it mattered but he was black and I am white but what did matter is he knew lots of good music that I was unaware of, and vice-versa. One of the bands that I introduced him to and he took an immediate liking to was Primus, almost more than anything else I ever played for him. I really loved hanging out with that guy and like most people we finished school and went on with our lives. I found out recently that he passed a few years ago, a boat capsized and he drowned. He would have liked Oysterhead. Watching you guys sort of takes me back to watching him react all those years ago.
Awesome. Primus isn’t for everybody, but imo those people that appreciate their talent are awesome. Thanks for sending out amazing content every day! You’re the best!
"There was a jellyfish floatin!'" 🤣 Indeed there was, indeed there was! I think this is my fav rxn vid of all time! Watching you guys groove together, I cant stop smiling!
So glad you reacted to Primus! I was going to recommend them. Man, back in the day, Primus was a huge favorite with the grunge scene in Seattle. Very influential.
Love Love Love Primus. Another band I don't think I've seen you react to on your channel who has some great and funky bass lines is CAKE. A solid place to start would be their song NEVER THERE.
Guys, I've been listening to Primus since the early 90's and watching how much you enjoyed it has reminded me why I loved it so much the first time I heard them! Thank you. x
Because I seek out the videos you do with your brothers, you've introduced this old lady to something totally new. Thanks for sending it the other way. This is amazing playing.
Wow, I love these. Do more. I love Primus and have Seen them live many times but this was badass. I love showing people music that’s badass that they never thought they would be into.
Primus is generally categorized as Groove Metal but they sound so much different than other Groove Metal bands like Pantera or Prong, I call them Hardcore Funk, like if metal bands had more funk and jazz influence than blues and baroque along with the hardcore punk bands of the 70s like Misfits and Black Flag.
You guys found one of my favourite bands! Great choice! I loved watching your reactions. you need to go see Primus live! I wish you the best and hope your channel grows. You had me laughing out loud and almost felt like the first time I heard tommy the cat even though that was probably my 1000th listen .
I got into Primus in the early 90's (Sailing the Seas of Cheese). My friends all thought they sucked. I refused to budge on my opinion and still love them today.
Primus' audience is probably built up of all sorts of different people. They had a few pretty high profile weird music videos in the 90s, so anyone watching MTV might've been reeled in by those. Then, they were also on some huge concert tours/festivals in the 90s that would've given them exposure to a much wider audience. They're also obviously beloved by musicians who are super into the talent of the musicians in the band and heard through word of mouth how good they are. They had some tracks in the Tony Hawk games which must've earned them a lot of fans. Then, I bet there are people into other sort of outsider weirdo music like Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart, etc. who found out about them through that avenue. The members have also been key figures in some cool metal bands (Blind Illusion, Possessed, and the famous Les Claypool audition for Metallica), so some metal guys probably heard about them that way. Les has also been in some bands with some other famous musicians Oysterhead with the dude from Phish and the drummer from The Police, a duo he's in with John Lennon's son, a band with Buckethead, etc. Finally, especially starting around the turn of this century, they had a lot of overlap with the jam band circuit, doing collabs with jam band musicians and playing a lot of those festivals, giving even more exposure. I think I found out about them in high school through a friend who was a bass player and was really into them and stuff like Zappa and Beefheart.
I see someone else mentioned Bootsy too! There are many amazing bassists, but I feel Les and Bootsy (maybe Entwistle of The Who) are outliers who play in a wildly unique way. Primus put a DVD out roughly 20 years ago titled ‘Hallucino-genetics’. Mind bending performance. A stand out track for me is ‘Southbound Pachyderm’. Three people sound like a storm coming, it’s that good.
First time I saw Primus was opening for Rush on the Roll the Bones tour 1992. Saw that tour twice. Then on their short tour after lollapaloza ‘93 then again on the Tales from the Punchbowl tour in 1995. Last time I saw them was 2016 opening for Tool. Every time it was always Tim(Herb)Alexander on the drums. So mad I didn’t get to see them on their Rush: A Tribute to Kings tour. Was a Covid postponement and then a Hurricane postponement, I don’t know if they ever played that show in NOLA.🤘🖖✌️🎸🥁🎹🎤
I love how your brothers start out with some trepidation, but when that bass hits, heads start bobbing while smiling, I know thats another potential Primus fan. Primus, weird, genius and a genre unto themselves...Could you imagine how great it would have been to have been in that audience!!
Aw man, major flashbacks to listening to Sailing the Seas of Cheese on auto-reverse in the Walkman back in middle school. What a fuckin jam. Gonna have to put those on again. And Buckethead too.
I think early MTV- when they played music and videos, they introduced me to Primus, thanks to that wonderful video- Wynona's Big Brown Beaver. Then eventually started looking further and ended up completely hooked. Another even more insane group- it is YOUR fault I am also hooked on Mr. Bungle, I had never heard of them till you reacted to Carnival. Thanks! I love them now as well!
I saw primus at the Berkeley Square in 89. it was like discovering the Beatles. there were no cell phones or internet. we would just get wind they were playing and ran to get tickets. it was unreal. it changed everything. I thought they were too huge to be just a local band playing small clubs. I knew they'd be global. I mailed friends back east the demo album (only on vinyl). then they blew up. I knew they would, but couldn't believe it
Played primus for a friend a while back who never heard them cause he grew up listening to rap and r&b. When the song started he looked at me dead serious and said " whatchu think just cause im black that mean i gotta love this shit with the bass?" I smiled and said yeah thats exactly what i thought and then he laughed and told me it actually sounded good and he liked it 😂😂 dude has 1 or 2 primus songs on his playlists now ,ive heard john the fisherman in his car and too many puppies lol. and he actually learned their names lol. I think primus is just like a funk groove that you either feel or you dont, you dont listen to primus.. you feel it 🤌 glad to see you guys jamming out along with me while watching this video 😁
Been listening to these cats for 33 years. Les tried out for Metallica after Cliff Burton died. Metallica told him he was too good for their band! This was great!!
Much better version of that song. Glad you guys got to see more of Les and the gang. Really enjoyed seeing your guys reactions, brought me back and made wonder wtf I havent listened to this for a while :)
Lyrics in a nutshell: Tommy is a stray alley cat and gets all the lady cats because he's so gosh darn cool. I think Tommy might be related to Felix The Cat of the '70s adult cartoon.
@@revjim123 Oh right, been awhile since I watched it. I always think Felix because of the NHL goalie Felix "The Cat" Potvin. I also mess up Queen guitarist Brian May with ex-Buffalo Sabre Brad May. It happens a lot.
Its our duty, as primus fans, to hit up every reaction video person stream and donate enough to get this band out reacted on. Ill give you 100 bucks and send you the dvd if you react to the WHOLE "hallucinogenics" concert sir.
I know this is an old video, but you guys would really love Primus on the David Letterman show when they dressed up as penguins 😂 Wynonas Big Brown Beaver - David Letterman

The smiles, the laughing, the grooving. You guys get it. That’s what it’s all about 👍🏻

DOPE!!!
cool story, PRIMUS SUCKS!!!!!!
Awesome story..love tampa but it's rough lol..
That is superfly! Bad day to have off. Backstage would have been LIT!
I grew up with Primus in the late 80's/early90's, saw them at Lollapalooza '93, it was absolutely epic.
Nice! I got to see them a few years back when they toured with slayer. They absolutely kicked ass
Caught them at Lollapalooza as well in '93. Pittsburgh. Primus sucks!!! Say baby!
I was there in NOLA
There is no other band like Primus, they basically made their own genre.
Pucifer
I will never get tired of Primus reaction videos! Glad yall loved it!!!
Les and Primus are God's gift to us older hard rock / punk guys. His talent and music really bridge the gap in so may ways. You should look into the "Claypool Lennon Delirium when you can my friend. Les and Sean Lennon make some serious jams. Much love to your channel :)
Colonel Les Claypools Fearless Flying Frog Brigade is another gem.
I saw them live in Atlanta and it was absolutely insane
100% facts. It's bands like Primus and The Beastie Boys that is the reason us Gen Xers are hilarious and don't take life too seriously.
Les also bridged the gap from punk/metal to jam band music and funk. He was in a Spinal Tap like mocumentary called Electric Apricot and the Quest for Festeroo that is just wonderful. He's a drummer in that band and it's hilarious.

"There was a jellyfish floatin!'" 🤣 Indeed there was, indeed there was! I think this is my fav rxn vid of all time! Watching you guys groove together, I cant stop smiling!
They played Primus on MTV in the 90’s all the time
No one remembers a time when Music TV played music videos!
They just kick Ass
I've loved this song since a band I knew covered it around '94 or '95. It never fails to get a huge grin from me.
always makes me smile when you decide a song is too good to be appreciated alone, so you gotta bring the friends along!
So glad you reacted to Primus! I was going to recommend them. Man, back in the day, Primus was a huge favorite with the grunge scene in Seattle. Very influential.
Who will not to not like them back in the days. Very powerfull at musicianship!
Love Love Love Primus. Another band I don't think I've seen you react to on your channel who has some great and funky bass lines is CAKE. A solid place to start would be their song NEVER THERE.
I second that! Love CAKE!!!
Satan in my Motor.

Also, Sheep Go to Heaven… 🤘🙌
Nice to see those bobbing heads. I challenge everyone to listen to this track without doing so.
Thanks for spreading the love, man!
This just really brought home to me; I GET TO SEE LES LIVE THIS SUMMER! I’m so stoked
I love seeing you guys doing this together.
Man I really like the way you guys do your show. You let the music rock instead of stopping every minute and talking. Keep up the good work
Les Claypool and the Fog Brigade are getting back together for a summer tour, dont miss out!!!
Guys, I've been listening to Primus since the early 90's and watching how much you enjoyed it has reminded me why I loved it so much the first time I heard them! Thank you. x
I first heard Pirmus in 1990 on a skateboard video, a most insanely artistic band.
Because I seek out the videos you do with your brothers, you've introduced this old lady to something totally new. Thanks for sending it the other way. This is amazing playing.

I’d heard them before but my first time seeing them live was RtB tour. One of the only good bands I’ve seen with Rush.
Fish on!!
Oh to witness true human greatness. I’ve been lucky enough to have seen it a few times live
I love how your brothers start out with some trepidation, but when that bass hits, heads start bobbing while smiling, I know thats another potential Primus fan. Primus, weird, genius and a genre unto themselves...Could you imagine how great it would have been to have been in that audience!!
True story, I smoked Optimo Blunts and listened to Primus so much, I earned a new nickname...
Aw man, major flashbacks to listening to Sailing the Seas of Cheese on auto-reverse in the Walkman back in middle school. What a fuckin jam. Gonna have to put those on again. And Buckethead too.
… but it makes me think of you.

They need to make an Avenger style movie with all of the characters Primus has created and sang about for the last 30-40 years 🤘
I am SCREAMING. I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!!
best line of this song " like butter dripping off a hot biscuit " les claypool is one of a kind
I was so happy to see the man on your right had a smile that never left his face from the start
Three brothers who appreciate heavy sounds when they hear it. Great review!
First Primus song I heard as a kid thanks to Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey. Got a few records since then.
STATION!
Played primus for a friend a while back who never heard them cause he grew up listening to rap and r&b. When the song started he looked at me dead serious and said " whatchu think just cause im black that mean i gotta love this shit with the bass?"

I read a comment on here somewhere which said "Primus are the Ren and Stimpy of music." I agree.
Oh man...if y'all coulda gone to a Primus show. No better time, had I, than at a Primus concert...and I've been to see more than 100 bands.
We used to get our new music from the folks behind the counter at the record store.... and MTV/VH1
This made my day. Much love.
Primus- Tommy the Cat was in Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey. That was the first time I heard of Primus.
I was waiting for the bass solo. It went exactly as I expected
Been listening to these cats for 33 years. Les tried out for Metallica after Cliff Burton died. Metallica told him he was too good for their band!
This was great!!
Primus is like Funkadelic with George Clinton peaking on a nice crack high.
Perfect description
Much better version of that song. Glad you guys got to see more of Les and the gang. Really enjoyed seeing your guys reactions, brought me back and made wonder wtf I havent listened to this for a while :)
I love it, you guys get this! A lot of people don’t.
Ya'll gotta hear Les here at the house of blues ...
The Claypool Lennon Delirium - Southbound Pachyderm | Live at House of Blues
Watched these guys play at Ozzfest. My gawd what a show.
If you aren’t bopping along to the beat you are not alive!
Earth be universally headbanging to this...say babeeyh say bebeeh!
Saw them at Rockfest and they definitely know how to get a crowd going.
The term "baddass" was invented for Primus. They are to rock what Kate Bush is to singer/songwriter. Nothing EVER like them.
I was there and really close to the front. Haven’t been able to find myself in crowd shots though
Lyrics in a nutshell: Tommy is a stray alley cat and gets all the lady cats because he's so gosh darn cool. I think Tommy might be related to Felix The Cat of the '70s adult cartoon.
Tommy is actually Tom the tom xat from The Aristocrats...the Disney movie. Strange factoid i read somewhere.
Fritz the cat is the dirty cat from the 70s, Felix was in kids cartoons since the 30s
@@revjim123 Oh right, been awhile since I watched it. I always think Felix because of the NHL goalie Felix "The Cat" Potvin. I also mess up Queen guitarist Brian May with ex-Buffalo Sabre Brad May. It happens a lot.
❤️ the smiles on your faces!!!!! I’m a fan of Les Claypool. Check out the album Oysterhead.
I've seen them live a few times and it's an absolute insane experience
Yes ues Jamal, Primus are Legendary
“They suck”is a way that Primus fans proclaim their love for the band
Its our duty, as primus fans, to hit up every reaction video person stream and donate enough to get this band out reacted on.
Ill give you 100 bucks and send you the dvd if you react to the WHOLE "hallucinogenics" concert sir.
Primus has their own catagory on iTunes btw.
What's he saying ?
It doesn't matter.. EXCELLENT
Loved this reaction - thank you!
Primus sux. 💖
Why can't we just all get along, I got news for ya we can........ Love these reviews, 🤩 Primus rips!

Speaking of Hocus Pocus, you would LOVE Gary Hoey's cover.
My favorite!!😊
I first heard this song in Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey 😂 Had to buy the soundtrack
Damn, you got me again. Not very many bands have a lead bass.
Fun fact, since you asked how anybody would ever find this - Primus is the only band (I think) out there with their own genre.
Yeah, garbage! 😁
6:14 what’s crazy is us metal heads took ownership of primus cause they would get play on headbangers ball.
Love that bass guitar.
Are you going to introduce them My Name is Mud next?
Primus is so funky if they moved in next door your lawn would die.
I know this is an old video, but you guys would really love Primus on the David Letterman show when they dressed up as penguins 😂

Love my local boys
As a white man I am happy to see that my race has value to the funky bass community.😎
