IICLE (Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education) used to publish an excellent handbook based on this lease titled “Form Lease.” That handbook is worth its’ weight in gold as a primer for leases in general, and understanding how the system works.
I lived in an apartment complex for 5 years now. Everything was good until new management came and neglected to renew my lease and charging me an additional $250 per month for the past 16 months. I stopped paying the additional $250 2 months ago and continued paying rent that was the amount of my last signed lease. They leave letters on my door with the total amount due from past months to almost $1000 due. I went into the leasing office every month asking why they haven’t renewed it and they just kept giving me the run around (property manager isn’t in the office today, firing of old employees who messed up everyone’s paperwork) I’m thinking about sueing them. Anyone have any advice?
