- Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate hold a special place in our Monster Hunting careers. With Nintendo officially shutting down online servers on the 8th of April, we wanted to make our own sendoff to these two glorious games, and all of the memories that we had created during the time online play was still available.
We'd like to know, what was your favorite memory from playing online in either 3U or 4U?
One that I will always remember is when I went in online for the first time in 4u, and that people were mocking me because of my armor. Turn out I still had the base one and somehow didn't see that the blacksmith had multiples pages that I could scroll through..
in 4u i was playing with my mom and dad hunting some monsters in low rank to get me some gear untill some guy hr 999 joined and it was fucking crazy like none of us would ever have thought someone would even be hr999, still friends with him today and that was 10 years ago
Playing absolutely stupid save edited quests
First time slaying gog in 4U with friends was a momentous occasion.

It truly was a dark day in the history of Monster Hunter...
Me and my brother logged into 4U on the last day before the shutdown and to no one's surprise, a bunch of people were there as well.
It's been some time since we last played 4U, so it was a nostalgic return and somewhat sentimental too, with everybody else going out on their last online hunts together with us.
I'll miss the game, especially since the emulation side of things doesn't look too great either right now, given what happend to citra...
But I'm confident there will be a way to hunt together once more in the future. The MH community truly is an amazing one and has made many things possible in the past.
Like the MH Freedom games, MH2, MH Tri and even Frontier before them, I'm sure it wont be too long before 3U and 4U will be revived as well.
We are really fortunate to have such a great community that aims to revive older titles. I can only imagine the time and effort that goes into such an endeavor, and we are really grateful for it. Hopefully we can see the same treatment for 3U and 4U someday.
@@BakeNation_MH Isn't Pretendo already working on Monster Hunter 3DS servers?
Im pretty sure citra was forced to stop development but the current versions still run the game perfectly and there are servers out there for you to play on.
@@Mik-kv8xx and these versions are preserved on the biggest internet history preservation site.

I swear if I never get a port of 4 ultimate on a console I can play on the big screen I will not be able to die a fulfilled man, I will live to see that done no matter what, I won't accept any other outcome

Step 2: rise the ranks to CEO
Step 3: first order as CEO is to demand a port for 3U and 4U to modern consoles

4U needs a Remaster. It is a peak experience. I love GU but man 4U feels great.
There really is a special feeling when playing 4U, and I can’t even describe it.
You can play something similar to a remaster with HD textures with emulation tho.... Is not the same of

No other MH game can replicate the MH4U Je suis monte experience
doesn't even really need a remaster, the game looks and runs great even on the 3DS so a straight-up port with just upres textures and UI scaling would be fine

Citra was shutdown along with the servers for multiplayer.
You can still use the latest version of citra and play, but no multiplayer.

I play until P3 and skip 3U, 3DS is still expensive that day and it only support local play.
After watching MH4 trailer, I bought 3DS immediately and I never regret that decision.
The thing I like isn't about new weapons, palico trend system, monsters or equipment but the story.
When playing MH4, the story and cutscenes make me feel like I'm on happy adventure, and not just blatantly hunting monsters for the first time when playing monster hunter since MH1, I feel alive.
And the cutscenes is so good, funny how netflix Legend of the Guild animation look worse compared to 2013 game.
Until this day MH4 story is still the best for me, the stories of monster hunter nowadays they make it look gloomy.
Most monhan players probably didn't care about story and I'm used to be like that, but it change after experiencing MH4, I want more of it.
I do agree that the story of 4U is probably the best the series has pulled off. It felt like there was more natural progression throughout in terms of discovering more about Gore/Shagaru Magala and the steps it took to get to the end. I did enjoy the story of Sunbreak, but so far nothing has topped the story from 4/4U
I practically grew up playing 4u, sucks that servers went down, online play hasn't felt even half as personal since. World and rise just feel lonely and isolated when you're online compared to the older games. Heres to hoping we get a remaster
I feel the dynamic scaling in WI and SB can almost disincentivize playing online because it is mostly quicker/easier to do a quest yourself rather than with others.
@BakeNation_MH yes, that and sos flares. No real reason to lobby up anymore. Used to join a hall and be like, "well this is my hunter family for the next few hours." And we'd socialize and get to know eachother a little bit over the course of the hunts, then exchange guild cards, and sometimes friend requests.
I am sad that 4U online is ending (unless the community can revive the online) but for 3U i had the 3DS version and that one didnt have online . Practically played 3U solo

Hopefully 3U and 4U can get ported eventually, like GU did, and Stories is about to.
Thinking about picking up that stories port. I was saddened when stories 2 didn’t allow you to change your monsters element, so I want to experience that again

My friend and I gave up on MH4U long ago, when we heard the online was getting shut down, we had to hunt one last time, the issue was that, my 3DS broke and had urgently to buy one to restore the save + to grind the fuck out of my friend's hunter cuz he was only early G1 and we absolutely wanted to kill Gogmazios, we eventually did succed, but DAYUM, the fact that freaking Gogmazios, such an incredible fight (the cannons,ballistas, riding on the torso of this gigachad, the dragonnator, the dragonnator that fell apart, the big ass canon FOCKIN PROOF OF A HERO),was so PEAK, we truly end a MH journey with the best hunt possible
To this day Gog remains my favorite final hub boss throughout the franchise, and I don’t really see that changing anytime soon. From the phase transition to the demolisher or the dragonator in its back, the fight is truly peak.

Back in 2013 I was playing MHFU in highschool school with friends and stopped playing when I graduated and never touched Monster Hunter again cuz it feels empty without friends. March 2024 I dated a girl playing MH4U and I bought second hand 3ds in secret just to play with her and she told me that 3ds is shutting down. Had great time playing together with her friends until it finally shut down. I guess that was a bad time to bought 3ds.
Perhaps not the best time to buy a 3ds, but at least you got the chance to play with her and her friends for a bit before servers shutdown.
I love monster hunter!!! Even though I started with world I've been playing through rise and gu, considering getting 3 or 4u for my 3ds and going in solo just for the funsies. This game is so special, I have yet to find a game that has the same feel as any of the monster hunters I've played. These games are magical as fuck
3U will always hold a special place in our hearts. A lot of that has to do with nostalgia, but it just feels special going on the game and playing with each other even after all these years
Couldn't you have been playing 3u together instead of taking turns on the wii u? I think Wii u could connect with someone playing on the 3ds locally, and if you had the ethernet adapter I think maybe you could go to online hubs together too?
We only had the singular copy of 3U at the time that we played it on the Wii U. We didn’t get our other copy on the 3ds till years later

Good luck, GU is a beast of a game. I remember farming out all the deviant sets and it was some of the most frustrating but enjoyable experiences.
I've been playing the heck out of Dragon's Dogma 2, but I think I wanna play with my boys again now. MH is king 🤴

my 1st monster hunter game was world i never played 3U and 4U so i don't feel as connected as everyone else have also most of my monster hunting is done by solo until recently i start to play online i be more sad world and rise online discontinue and i know that's coming.
It may not happen anytime soon, but I would not be surprised years and years down the line when the Switch is an old-gen console of Nintendos and they discontinue online service for it as well.
Well, here's hoping capcom will have the 4 main game will be released as a HD collection for the consoles, pc, and switch down the line.
While I don’t foresee that really happening, I certainly am not opposed to it.
After MHW and MHR, I thought of getting the older games. Sad to see some already got such limitations.
In terms of physical copies yes, but I know MH4U can be played together with others through emulation. As for MH3U, I don’t know if there is anything for it yet.

There is something special about meeting your first wall in MH and then taking the steps to overcome it. It’s cool to hear you experienced a similar thing with Seltas.

It is a shame because we just got online back for the older games in the series earlier in 2023, now we have to wait for a while to get the 6 3DS & Wii U MH games back online.

It is, and will always be, our favorite. The voice chat feature in the multiplayer servers really helped with building a sense of community.

Actually you could've just get a copy of 3U for the 3DS and play online using the 3U adhoc to online system, i remember that being a thing, obscure AF, but it was there.
That's kind of what we currently do. We have one copy of 3U for the Wii U and one copy of 3U for the 3ds, so we can still play with each other.
When one era ends, new era begins ^^
And I don't think Capcom will let those games just die... In my opinion they will do the remaster version of those games right after Stories 1, and still before Wilds 😁 we just have to let them cook 🥰
There is certainly plenty of time between now and Wilds release, guess all we can do is wait and see
Damn good video. I'm a newer fan who played 4U after hating Rise's initial release. But even through the past couple of years, it's had a steady online community, and I was always able to find a group to hunt with. I would even run into the same people over and over again just because there wasn't as many people even playing at the time. I really need to learn how to use Citra and extract my ROM and save to keep playing

I loved MH4U and when the online went down i stayed online for a nother 12 hours before getting booted for good (i knew someone who was online for 3 weeks and was the last player to play mh4u online). I never really played the games multiplayer, i always thought i was too low level and everyone was endgame so i grinded singleplayer, but the last day made all the fun worth it. I love these older games so much and its great to see others who do aswell.
I felt the same way when initially starting to play online in 4U. I saw a bunch of servers where people were taking on lvl 140 Guild Quests while I was just in my lower-tier gear trying to get myself some better armor and weapons. I eventually got myself into doing lvl 140 double apex Rajang GQ's, and it is some of the most fun I have ever had playing MH, so I am really glad I decided to give it a try.

Secondly, there isn’t really much to say about the production other than just spending a lot of time as well as using a lot of presets that I put my own footage over and do a little tweaking.
