Hey, I own a legal copy of MHTri, but I wound up getting banned from the Discord for asking about any download links. Turns out that Discord enforces anti-piracy for servers with 1,000 members. Do you know if they'll be releasing all this for the public to use without having to be in the Discord?
Tri's system to upgrade low rank armors past a defense threshold to equal the high rank ones using high rank materials, but with different skills from the high rank armors was the coolest, and most interesting part of the game balance in it. It's the system I miss the most about playing Tri back the day, and the series has never revisited the mechanic.
It really was great, considering how wildly different LR and HR armours of the same kind looked. I'm still pleased about my Trapper, Luck set combining Baggi and Guild Armour.
The series never revisited it because the system was only ever used as a crutch to create more armor options in a game with a small roster, without having to create any more gear assets. Same with the color variations for certain weapons that had different stat distributions. Having a larger monster roster and more armor sets largely makes the system redundant.

We can show off our Ceadeus armor again at last. Proof of too many tens of hours spend beating a pale sea titan. Still the very best looking armor set to ever come out of the Monster Hunter IP to this day.
This almost made me cry. I can't wait to return to Loc Lac. The nostalgia is incredibly strong. Reminding me about the word "after" being censored hit me. Remember people typing guild tags in their profile box, or text art like the jeep in this video? Remember the out of bounds glitch by shooting someone with pellet when they fell from Rathian's nest in Moga Woods? Cluster bombing Alatreon with strangers? When you found a group that knew how to use the binder and gong on HR Jhen at the right time? I'm so excited.
Ala clust was my last gameplay before the servers shut down. Me and my people knew this would be the last day and enjoyed the last few hours... before we never saw each other again.
this brought some actual tears to my eyes, MH Tri was my first monster hunter but it was also probably one of the most important things to me when i was in not such a good place and im looking forward to booting up my old wii again!

This is AMAZING! I was just rewatching your previous Loc Lac video, and said to myself "the instant these servers come back online, I'm playing Tri." Perfect timing! I can't wait to hunt with you all under the waves.
They're still not back though, it's still very closed beta for now, I hope we don't get another frontier drama with everyone keeping their own betas closed and the files eventually leaking.

i was just wondering how the progress for this was going the other day, so cool that its made leaps and bounds. thanks for sharing and bringing attention to this project !
If you told me 2 years ago that Loc Lac would be back, I'd throw palicos at your head. I was one of the players whose first online experience was with Monster Hunter Tri. I used to log on immediately after coming home and just hang out with a small clan of players I met through the lobbies. I forgot all their names as well as the clan name because it was so long ago, but we had a uniform of skull helmets with leather jackets. Ended up kicking myself when I took a quick break and came back to the servers shutting down. I'm incredibly excited for the public release, you guys are doing great work!
This is such a FeelsGoodMan moment given how much I enjoyed this game all those years ago. This game is very unique and very much something people need to experience for themselves in the modern day.
Ah I commented a year ago on your channel with another account I remember! I'm so happy to see this and Tri was always my favourite Monster Hunter Game. It was also my first one. It sounds weird but I enjoyed High Rank end game more than Master Rank cause of time consumption and being able to clear quests way more often with groups. And I'm also not a hard core gamer (yes I did play MR afterwards always). But Tri just is special to me. The environments, the music, Moga, Loc Lac. Just everything
You know… the multiplayer aspect is disappearing more and more… never have I’ve seen a 10 people online city since MH1 on ps2 (iceborn couldn’t fix it), you don’t eat together anymore, you don’t head out the gate together anymore (just press r2), you can’t even invite your friends to dinner with a voucher anymore. I’m glad you can see your friends in the whole village in rise at least, but I still wish there was a huge town… with like 20 to 30 people chilling there… feeling lively
I'm genuinely impressed. The mosnter hunter community (I'm talking pre-world games) is honestly amazing and incredibly supportive. I remember the hours upon hours of fun I had with people on P3rd and 4U and I'm really happy that a people who never played the games before get to have the chance to have the experiences I got with the games back in the day.
This is just absolutely incredible. Tri was my first MH game as well and I'm so glad I got to experience it's online when it was active. I'll definitely look into jumping back into this on Dolphin!
It's incredible to see the dedication and skill that communities bring to bear for passion projects like these. I likely won't come join you, seeing as I don't have much time to game anymore, but I also spent my fair share of a great time in Monster Hunter Tri and so it brought me true joy to hear that people still enjoy the game and are bringing it back to full glory!
The ending to me has such a hunter vibe to it. Nature in monster hunter is about balance, and now it's time the balance is set right again. Loc Lac was a home to me, and I can't wait to return
This game was a majority of my child hood and solified my love for MH. The community was the best part and i didnt have many friends irl growing up having made friends on MH tri really was amazing
This was my first game and quickly one of my favorite games of all time. It created a love for the series that now is muuuuch greater. I remember spending HOURS in loc lac just talking to others and made a couple of friends. The sad thing though was that when the servers died that was it, they were gone.
As someone that just got into the game during 5th gen, I really want to try out MH3 along with its multiplayer. If you ever see a character named Leila when the servers go public, hit me up! I'm always down for some jolly hunts!
I hear rumblings of a grand city that was abandoned by its founders some years back, being rebuilt anew by the people that once called it home. I was a novice hunter back then, never got to see it and join others in the thrill of the hunt. But now with word of that place returning to life once more as a hub for hunters, and more experience under my own belt, I think this time I'll have to do my best to give this great desert city a visit. I can't wait to see this place with my own eyes for the first time!
Man i remember back in 2009/10 i went to grab my own copy of MH Tri after borrowing it from a friend. Had to show the cashier my identity to prove I was already 12. Now i turn 26 next month, time flies.
MH4U was the entry that got me hooked on the series, and I didn't even know that Dundorma originated in Dos until I watched this! Loc Lac is amazing, too; I can't wait for this project to go public so I experience more MH history!
I had 800 hours online combined in MH and MH Tri; I've tried the newer games but never liked any of them enough to play. MH graphics are hard to look at now, but Tri still looks great. I would play Tri online in an instant
8:26 yes, there was this one guy at my school whose name was just simon, who also got the game at some point and told us that he was not allowed to use his normal name. Simon. not more. and so he was forced to run around as 2imon and got that as a nickname from us.
Wow this is awesome. I remember back in 2014-2015 looking up if anyone had done this and reading that it wasn't possible, then sharing the news with my brother. I'd love to set this up on my Wii so we can play online again, also curious to know if you could cross-play with Dolphin and the Wii. Great video btw, you pull off a good mix of professional and natural with your writing and speech.
Never got all that in to a Monster Hunter game before but I remember your previous video about getting Tri working again. Video game preservation projects like this make me smile man. Other entertainment mediums are way easier to preserve and revisit but video games are art too and deserved to be preserved.
I've never played Monster Hunter Tri, I played 3U and it was weird, like if the content there did not belong, like an old class in a low budget mmo that just got reworked, everything is there, but looks and feels weird, in short I was disappointed, but when I see people talking about Tri, they are describing the game that was meant to be and honestly, I can't wait to give it a... tri
you know tri is honestly extremely unique. Even compared to 3 "ultimate". Port tanzia/loc lac is one of the noteworthy ones but others include, subquests(yeah 3 ultimate dont have them), the bowgun system and as others have mentioned armor upgrading. It changes the early game if you use gun kinda sad we don't get a re-release or something that could truly be the best possible mh3. I mean capcom can remake resident evil a lot of times for no reason why not monster hunter? (this is just totally an excuse to see how charge blades would work underwater)
I love that I'm excited about being able to say "after" when this opens up haha It still remains a minor joke to me that each time I play a new MH game with chat I type the word "after" to see if it's censored or not 😂
Yooo I think i gonna cry. Monster Hunter Tri was my first game in the series and the game i have the best online expierence with. As you said Loc Lac just feels different. I made so many friends with random people. It just felt like a living city. I had some awesome Summerbreaks with friends and one time my best friend and i played for over 20 hours (i think we were around 24 or 25) and at the end we beat Alatreon after some dude who joined our lobby teached us the fight. At some point i also helped new players learn the game and helped them farm for their gear. In the newer games i mostly play solo and only play online with friends. The online just is not the same. Like you said even in 3Ultimate the Online feels different. I am so happy about this news.
This is most impressive. This brings back so many memories of the experiences shared with so many other hunters. All them evenings sleep bombing alatreon... Modular bowguns was one of the features I missed so much too. Thank you for sharing this.
The online features of MHTri was never the same or as supreme as this one. You can name the room, pass over the room. Just those two things made it so amazing. You had to communicate to hunt and just naming the room set the standard for your online interaction.
tri was my childhood, I played it on the wii with my older brothers and some of their friends. this is amazing, I am glad a piece of gaming history can be preserved in this way
This brings back so many wonderful memories. It brings a tear to my eye. Sincerely. It's like reflecting on my greenhorn self asking the vets who were kind enough to help. Imagine asking help for a great jaggi. My goodness. But he did. That greatsword hunter with diablos sword and chest armor with everything else different. I think I recall the arena coin earned headband. But he stood by, watching me hunt, told me it was okay to back off and heal, to not be greedy with my hits. Or other tips. Once he seen I was improving he jumped in. It felt so forfilling. I was such a noob, I thought you had to share carves. 😔 But even till this day, his wise words ring in my head, and repeat out my mouth when I teach the next generations. It just brought me a different feeling. Me and my quropecco gunner Headwear because yeah sure- I could beat the quropecco in the menu arena with the duel blades as choice but great Jagged? No he was too hard for some stupid reason. Lmfao. I'll never understand my noob self. Nevertheless, this brought me a tear. I always hope to meet that Master who taught me, I know it's likely impossible. But I still thank all those hunters helping out others seeking help just the same.
i remember struggling so hard with great jaggi in the beginning and once i got a better grip on the game i returned to kill that great jaggi every time i had a new weapon, if i could kill great jaggi faster with the new weapon it was a better weapon. I believe the fastest time i achieved was like 1:53 or 1:52
@@1kili2 That's awesome! I think my biggest issue was I had a TINY T.V. and couldn't read a lot of text at first... so spent mo joke- about 60 hours just gathering without even unlocking all of deserted Island. I remember being SO EXCITED when Loc Online play had other _GaThERiNg_ areas. Lmao. Oh goodness, as soon as I did defeat Great Jaggi I was so proud. I would never leave Lance. I was SCARED of playing weapons without a shield and just respected hunters who didn't use a shield. MH was trying to tell my nooby butt what it was about. Felt proud of my first Great Jaggi kill for village quest? Well... For Day AND Night both-- Double Great Jaggi four FOUR DAYS IN A ROW! I was scared shitless. I JUST killed one, now your sending TWO of them no matter what during my peaceful gathering time?!? Yeah... I was salty. But I learned. And suddenly Great Jaggi wasn't scary no more. Especially when I realized Peco could summon a real "Dragon/Wyvern" (Rathian) So cute. I thought after I killed Lagiacrus from the village quest, I felt like I could nolonger be called a noob. Oh. Poor sweet innocent child me. Lol
I am having EMOTIONS. Tri was my first proper MH adventure and I miss Phantom Uragaan and Jhen Moran so much. As well as the online community, it felt so much better and more actual social activity than what I've experienced with MHW. PLUS you could help eachother on missions and not have to wait for the other person to do it first before you could do it together! You could really truly do co op progression and advance to new hunts together and nothing is better.
Bro that is so so so hype!! I play TRI on my wii in 2010 it was my second time playing a monsterhunter game i put 600+hours in when i was 12 and it really sparked a love a passion for the series. I’ll definitely be checking this out with my brother !! Thank you ❤
Tri, and 4u just felt like the peak of the series to be honest, Tri had multiplayer unlike any other monster hunter, it was so much better, people actually talked and communicated and would just bs for fun, it was friendly, Tri was also my first monster hunter game but I do genuinely think it is one of the greats of the series
this was my first Monster hunter experience when i was 10 or so and i was flashed instantly and played mhfu with my nephew for hundreds of hours. the music alone makes me happy :)

I had literally watched your "lost to time" video with Tri's no longer available servers literally 2 or 3 months ago since funny enough was able to find out im a 1st generation hunter as well as a 5th too so with already 300 hours in MH5 within barley 2 months its safe to say i did my research on the game franchise and let me tell you seeing this vid which i didn't even think was ever gonna happen , HAPPEN! its so surreal and crazy how fans who love the series as much as i do were able to bring back something gone for almost a decade. Wow such love and loyalty to a well deserved game, hopefully im able to play with my wii one day!
This is so awesome! I never had the option to play online back in the days and therefore couldn't do any high rank content. I mainly played MHP3rd after that, so it's not like I missed out on a lot but still, to have the option to play Tri in its entirety again after almost a decade is insane. Mad props to the dedicated team that made this possible.
I've never played this game but it makes me feel warm and fuzzy when a dedicated group of people keep an older game alive. In any form. Kinda like Shadow of the Colossus. Great video, dude.
I almost teared up, Tri was my first MH so it will always hold a special place in my heart. Then the countless hours I spent playing the game in my house and then whenever I was at my friend's house we'd team up for some duo hunts whilst yelling across the living room.
UA-cam shot this video suggestion straight to my heart. Holy shit it's amazing to see Tri back in this way, it was my introduction into MonHun and holds a special place, Loc Lac was a beautiful place.
I remember playing this game like it was yesterday almost. My first monster hunter game and I loved playing every bit of it. Never forget how much work it was to get simple things back then; looking at you bomb casings
While MH Tri was my first Monster Hunter game, I was *so glad* 3U had an offline mode! I *hated* that Tri had locked High rank to online only. So much so that I refused to do any quest that required online. Yes, I'm one of those who loved underwater combats. It felt like the monster had the advantage and I had to overcome them in their arena. I miss that feeling of beating them underwater. Now it's all about one shot and Surprise MF hits:-(
I was online the night tri servers shut down. Me and my old friends hung out everyday on mh, we all sat in a lobby together till we was forced off. Tri was legendary
It was my first Monster Hunter game, and for me the most important feature was splitscreen arena quests. I have done these so often with my best buddy, because you could get a complete armorset for your actual character. It was so fun because we only had that one game.
Hey, i'm long term MH fan, i've pick up couple of months ago MH TRI U on emu and cleared whole HR village quests. Then, honestly, i kinda give up on the guild hall quests (and whole G rank with it) because they're intended for multiplayer and hunt as solo is not really enoyable. Now seeing this video really gave me such a huge hype to join the community and start to hunt all these guild missions together. Dream becoming reality, thank you so much and to whole MH community! See you soon ingame fellow hunters!
I'm in tears. I've been playing this franchise since 2001 and tri was where this game really changed for me, helped my shy self make friends and find community and just have fun, I used to hunt with kogath and Moritz oz back in the day as well and it was truly the highlight of my day whenever I played. This game changed my life for the better and I'm so glad multiplayer is coming back!
This brings tears to my eyes. Tri is my all time favorite game and the online aspect is something I haven't enjoyed the same way in literally any other game since :')
Wow, I played a lot of Tri and definitely had a USB keyboard plugged in, but I never knew about the microphone or heard anyone using it. Also I completely forgot about the housing, IIRC mine was completely full of volcanoes and airships. Loved watching this.
I still miss my old maxxed save that I'd play with my friends from the US, when the origin servers shut down, I cried for days, I am gonna cry again seeing this... Thank you, Thank you so much... I love these developers...
A few months ago I was planning on visiting some of the earliest monster hunter games. I had plans for this, but I had stopped when I found out that frontier was completely inaccessible and half of tri was blocked off as well. Seeing how in a little less than a year we went from Loc Lac being buried beneath the sands of time to being perhaps weeks away from the grand revival of tri online servers is extremely exciting. It's no longer going to be me sitting on the floor of my friend's house watching him and another struggle against lagi, but instead it'll be me and some friends in that position. The more things change, the more they end up staying the same, huh?
So awesome to see this happening. Tri was the first Monster Hunter game I ever played, and so much of it is etched into my memories. I've even gone back to play it offline in the past year, and it's still pretty special. And the online was certainly the most special part of it. I really feel that the loss of dedicated "town" hubs is to the detriment of the more modern games. I get the handheld ones, but it would have been great to have in, say, World. I'll definitely have to see about getting set up to play online again, once this project is open to the public.
For anyone coming back to this video that is curious, the beta is now open to all! Instructions in their discord server and seems to be running smoothly so far!
Shit, when i heared the Ceadeus Battle Theme at 9:07, i almost started crying it made me remember all the good times in 2009, im glad that what i experienced a long time ago, is now coming back to be played again by veterans and newbie
as some people know me. i went on a mission to master Tri back in 2012 so as of last year (before i was deployed) i had just under 14,000hrs logged into OFFLINE TRI. to hear that it might be going online almost made me cry.
Y'know... I started my career in MHFU on the PSP and never actually owned a Wii. My only experience with Tri was doing village quests at my friend's house on her account and feeling like it was only half of a game somehow. Now, thanks to you, I finally know why I felt that way and that without access to the online mode that I was definitely correct in that feeling (though coming in hot off MHFU with the largest cast of monsters to date afaik certainly didn't help). Hearing you talk about the lobbies and features that I completely missed out on makes me really regret never getting a chance to try Tri to the fullest it could offer so maybe I'll make the attempt at catching up here if I can.
I’ve enjoyed MHTri like no other MH, I’ve made a lot of friends there and when they announced the servers were going to close, we all meet once again for the last time. Now that i know that the game is back, im feeling like a child again, i cannot wait to set it up and start playing.
This is insane. So much nostalgia flows through my head right now. I really loved the game and I'm glad that this was my first MH. The online environment always felt so casual if your not trying to farm alatreon specifically. When I played Gen Ultimate, I couldn't even find people to play with me. Everyone was just speedrunning the key quests to fight these apex variants. If you wanted to play anything else, you're likely out of luck. I even had to wait for over an hour on a friday afternoon to do my urgent Valstrax quest. The fking flagship monster.
Hey Mr. 10(00)k subs I just wanna say that I thought this was a great video, it was well narrated, it played on shared nostalgia nicely, it felt really honest, straight from the soul (even though I'm a Ginger that does not believe in such things) and felt like it had a topic you really cared about. I almost shed a manly tear thinking about the great times of my teenage self. Have a good one
I can’t even begin with so much that has changed since Monster Hunter first released on PS2. I was a huge fan instantly when I started it up and started learning what was going on.

"if I have a nickel every time a 3rd iteration of a famous franchise had controversies over water, but had great nostalgia, i would have 2 nickels, which isn't alot but it's weird that it happened twice"
*people pointing at water with a wow face* this should be added back!
What is the other one?

Truly astonishing work from the devs. I can’t believe I will have the chance to revisit my childhood memories. Loc Lac, BE ETERNAL!!!
To this day, I still love MH3. It was my entry to this series that I now adore.
It's so good to see you back making MH videos. As much as I like your main channel, Flyann 2 videos are always some of my favorite
i was just wondering how the progress for this was going the other day, so cool that its made leaps and bounds. thanks for sharing and bringing attention to this project !
The community was the best part and i didnt have many friends irl growing up having made friends on
MH tri really was amazing
This was my first game and quickly one of my favorite games of all time. It created a love for the series that now is muuuuch greater. I remember spending HOURS in loc lac just talking to others and made a couple of friends. The sad thing though was that when the servers died that was it, they were gone.
As someone that just got into the game during 5th gen, I really want to try out MH3 along with its multiplayer. If you ever see a character named Leila when the servers go public, hit me up! I'm always down for some jolly hunts!
@@Daryl90 No I completely agree. The atmosphere was unreal.
This legit made my day, so great to see the MH community come together once again to resurrect Tri and Loc Lac, the nostalgia's coming back to me!
Dang.. 09:07 I got chills down my spine when that Ceadeus tracks start to play
Was my first MH game, it has a special place in my heart, racked up over 1k hours as a teen, good times
MH tri on the Wii was the equivalent of Phantasy star for the Dreamcast
Could you make a tutorial on how to enter the Server? Or do you have to modifi your Wii in any way?
Bro I’m a 23 year old grown ass man. This teleported me back to being 11. I’m definitely trying this out.
Great video btw, you pull off a good mix of professional and natural with your writing and speech.
beta tester here, it does work!
"We want more lagiacrus"
"We have left over lagiacrus at home"

You guys actually fucking did it holy shit ! W community
I love that I'm excited about being able to say "after" when this opens up haha
It still remains a minor joke to me that each time I play a new MH game with chat I type the word "after" to see if it's censored or not 😂
Yooo I think i gonna cry.
I am so happy about this news.
never underestimate a determined and extremely loyal fanbase, such people can and often will impress you.
But even till this day, his wise words ring in my head, and repeat out my mouth when I teach the next generations.
Especially when I realized Peco could summon a real "Dragon/Wyvern" (Rathian)
So cute. I thought after I killed Lagiacrus from the village quest, I felt like I could nolonger be called a noob. Oh. Poor sweet innocent child me.
Lol
This is astounding news!
I can't wait to drink at the bar until I topple over
I'm a huge fan of your videos, thanks for giving us this. We love you
I am having EMOTIONS.
I'm using tilt controls!
Bro that is so so so hype!! I play TRI on my wii in 2010 it was my second time playing a monsterhunter game i put 600+hours in when i was 12 and it really sparked a love a passion for the series. I’ll definitely be checking this out with my brother !! Thank you ❤
Yea but does the deviljo eat its own tail?
Tri, and 4u just felt like the peak of the series to be honest, Tri had multiplayer unlike any other monster hunter, it was so much better, people actually talked and communicated and would just bs for fun, it was friendly, Tri was also my first monster hunter game but I do genuinely think it is one of the greats of the series
this was my first Monster hunter experience when i was 10 or so and i was flashed instantly and played mhfu with my nephew for hundreds of hours. the music alone makes me happy :)
I just found this channel and was ready to binge watch everything only to find out there's only 5 videos. I don't know what to do anymore I already gave up on being productive today
If it's possible for them to modify the game at all PLEASE ask them to make deviljho eat his own tail lol
jho eats his own tail in this game there's no need to modify anything
@@potatoexe5410 can you post a video for proof? This has been a huge discussion in the community lately and it turns out everyone that showed Deviljho eating it's own tail actually cheated by dropping a meat item in the same spot as the tail. If you know of video proof of Deviljho eating it's own tail without any tricks going on it would be HUGE!
@@joshmay2944 are you kidding? I'm guessing the only people that dont know about this is people that didn't play this game or spend enough time on it but jho does indeed eat his tail every now and then if hes hungry and there's no corpse around.
Jho did indeed eat his tail. What's worse is you can't get the item drop if he does.
Omg your laugh is so snuggly wuggly cute boy I'm literally shaking
i-
This is so awesome!
I almost thought this was gonna be about Deviljho’s tail, thank god it’s about tri
I remember that day. Saying goodbye to all my friends. It was a dark day.
playing proof of a hero in the background is so fitting for this
the perseverance despite all the technical difficulties and they prevailed in the end
Wow, I played a lot of Tri and definitely had a USB keyboard plugged in, but I never knew about the microphone or heard anyone using it. Also I completely forgot about the housing, IIRC mine was completely full of volcanoes and airships. Loved watching this.
I'm a post-world player so I want to know : What do you love about Tri over other entries? Any forgotten monsters, weapons, looks etc you miss?
the moment you said "we rebuilt this place", the song 'We Built This City' popped into my head XD
Tri was such a huge part of my life, it’s what got me into MH
So happy to see it back :,)
Tri was my first monster hunter ever. I hope i get to play it again.
I still miss my old maxxed save that I'd play with my friends from the US, when the origin servers shut down, I cried for days, I am gonna cry again seeing this...
Thank you, Thank you so much...
I love these developers...
So many good memories... I remember buying the exact same bundle you did and I still have the controller!
I wonder if there will be a cease and desist letter
Immediate subscribe material! I've been craving old-school MonHun content for a while, and your heartfelt presentation of this subject hits the spot!
I thought this was about deviljho eating it’s tail. 🤬
woah, nostalgia hit really bad this time... Thanks for bringing this to us, mate!
I will probably not get around to put ay meaningful time into this game again, but it makes me so happy to know it's there
I’ve enjoyed MHTri like no other MH, I’ve made a lot of friends there and when they announced the servers were going to close, we all meet once again for the last time.
Hey Mr. 10(00)k subs
I just wanna say that I thought this was a great video, it was well narrated, it played on shared nostalgia nicely, it felt really honest, straight from the soul (even though I'm a Ginger that does not believe in such things) and felt like it had a topic you really cared about.
I almost shed a manly tear thinking about the great times of my teenage self.
Have a good one
I can’t even begin with so much that has changed since Monster Hunter first released on PS2.
I was a huge fan instantly when I started it up and started learning what was going on.
