  • Does it fit me better the look of The Turn of the Century or the 1910s look?
In this video I talk about the beauty standard of the first two decades of the 20th century: 1900-1910, also known as Edwardian Era. Meanwhile I follow the skincare, haircare and makeup routine as described in some vintage books like:
    - Practical face treatment and natural beauty by a London Specialist, 1900
    - The Lady beauty-book by Myrene, 1900
    - Beauty and the preservation of youth by An.M.D. 1907
    - Health and beauty hints by Margaret Mixter, 1910
    - Hygiene of the face and cosmetic guide by Richard W. Muller, 1916
I chose the most common and interesting practices from the different books, some cosmetic ingredients and indications are a little different from one book to another but they are pretty similar in the general practice of the beauty routine.

So helpful! I'm filming an opera that takes place in 1910 and all of the women's chorus will be watching. Thank you so much!

My grandmother told me even in the 1920s it was considered slut like for a woman to wear makeup and short hair and they never wore dresses above the knees

It depended where people lived, which country, which village, which community. In many rural places around Europe people still dressed everyday with traditional costumes up to the 30s, older women up to the 80s... Fashion always moved faster in big cities and in richer countries :)

@@candywanderer_thetravelpinup That is probably true, because Sacramento California back in the 1920s was a small capital town back then.

Christianity was stronger in the West back then. I have a relevant experience of my own to share. After getting saved, I got into level-up culture and was fascinated by makeup. Then, out of the blue, the Holy Ghost put the pressure on me to throw away my makeup. If you really think about it, makeup really can be a lie. I've had the experience of looking at heavily-made up actresses in vintage movies and wondering what they really looked like.

The way you look to make sure nobody is looking before applying the rouge. 😂
