- “Back Street Girl” by The Rolling Stones
Composers: Mick Jagger and Keith Richards
Lyrics:
I don't want you to be high
I don't want you to be down
Don't want to tell you no lie
Just want you to be around
Please come right up to my ears
You will be able to hear what I say
Don't want you out in my world
Just you be my backstreet girl
Please don't be part of my life
Please keep yourself to yourself
Please don't you bother my wife
That way you won't get no help
Don't try to ride on my horse
You're rather common and coarse anyway
Don't want you out in my world
Just you be my backstreet girl
Please don't you call me at home
Please don't come knocking at night
Please never ring on the phone
Your manners are never quite right
Please take the favors I grant
Curtsy and look nonchalant, just for me
Don't want you part of my world
Just you be my backstreet girl

One of the prettiest songs I've ever heard. Soft, sweet, gentle ballad to a girl you do not love.
That's excactly what suprised me so much! I never really listened to the lyrics back then. I was way to young to understand. I thought it was a genuine lovesong. And then I found out that it's all about using a girl, putting her on her, so called, right place. Shocked me ... kind of ...
@@gabyvansant4533 exactly the same for me
Grazie. Bellissime parole.
@@gigliolagiglio218 You're welcome. Prego!
One of my all time favorite Stones songs. Jack Nietzsche & Brian add such cool textures with Charlie's cool percussion track. The accordion is also really cool.
along with the harpiscord and xylophone, wont hear those instruments in current music
The accordion gives it an Italian organ grinder sound…much as I love the beggars thru exile glory period; they could never replicate the mid 60s output, the pop experimentation that resulted in gems like this and ruby Tuesday and something happened to me yesterday, etc…
Every father of a daughter needs to have her listen to this, to help her avoid the heartache of a loveless relationship that many men will offer her if not recognized early.
im a man and i beleive you are excaterating the negativaty of back street girl i am not evil and ihave done this before and the woman enjoyed herself and you are also being paraniod complain about something that really needs it
@eric change your lightbulb and take a cold shower
Early Stones criminally underrated.
Not for the real
connoisseurs.
Early? This Is Between the buttons, not so early and well known by admirers
I first heard it on Flowers, I bought the tape in 1985 at 13 years and I still remember most of the songs…this one, please go home, out of time, sitting on a fence, the odd and needless remake of my girl….funny, I can remember all those songs so well; they came out in the mid 60s but they reek of 1985 for me….
not by me.
I love Brian’s vibraphone. Makes the song so beautiful and unique
Brian brought so much depth to their music, and they, Jagger, Richards, And Oldham just pushed him aside. Brian was the soul of the original Rolling Stones.
Long live the stones
wow, I've been listening to the Rolling Stones for over 55 years and somehow this is the first time I've ever heard this great song. It's a sad song really.
Indeed, it is.
Jagger was a monster.
Keith is so brilliant on the acoustic.
Uma das melhores canções dos Stones.....
Álbum Flowers.
the more i listen to between the buttons, the more it becomes my favorite
Between the Buttons and Aftermath - hell yeah
@@BR-hi6yt oh yes Martin definitely
Mine too !!!
Klasse Song der hätte auch eine Toptenplazierung in den Charts verdient gehabt, aber so ist das bei allen Topstars. Die weniger bekannten Titel sind manchmal besser wie die Chartstürmer.
I 📝 this in some weird place which I can't remember. It's got the feeling of a 🇫🇷 ☕ about it. I just thought about this chick... it was an easy number to write. Nice ballad.
*_Mick Jagger, 1967_*
@JORGE JESUS CISNEROS GARCIA Yes,You will LOVE
My older brother actually started playing this in front of Keith Richards while he was with him at his house, and he didn't remember having written it (true story). It's arguably one of their most beautiful songs.
@@romanticandperky Great anecdote. It is possible Jagger wrote this song himself, and at least lyrically, it doesn't read like a Keith Richards composition.
@@gimletsez Yes, I believe you're right. This was one that Mick wrote by himself; he, apparently, mentioned something to that effect at one time. Here's a trivia question for you: Keith Richards, by himself, once wrote a song about a woman that Jimi Hendrix wrote a song about. Can you name those tunes, and the woman who was the subject of them? I think she's still alive somewhere. Btw, my brother knew Jimi Hendrix, too, and toured with him briefly back in 1970.
@@romanticandperky Sorry to take so long to reply, and I swear I did not google the answers! The woman who had a relationship with both Keith Richards in England around 1965-66, and a year or two later with Hendrix in New York, was/is an English woman, Linda Keith. Now, for the more difficult question (answered Jeopardy-style), "What are the songs she inspired them to write? I will go with, "What are 'Foxy Lady' (Hendrix), and Ruby Tuesday" (Richards).
Sounds better than ever !!!! Rock Classic !!!! Classic rock !!!!
My favorite Rolling Stones song.
flowers is truly an amazing album
It's actually a compilation.
This song takes my heart in such a relieving place.
Its so beautiful...😢 We played it in our youth, my friend and I...and she's gone, now 😢😭💔🇧🇻
Brilliant. One of my all time faves. The melody is first class. Always in my top ten.
A very OVERLOOKED gem in their fabled canon.
Well said my G
Ohhh! Brian, you was a Genius ! Your Piano-Accordion and the Dulcimer in this song was Beautiful !!!
Nick de Caro plays the accordion, according to Wiki.
As an accordionist i was delighted to hear this. First time I ever heard the song. Beautiful but brutal....
@@frankhamilton9256 Life is tough.
What's beautiful about it at the core is how it evokes the sadness of the life of the girl.
Mick proving once again that he's the best vocalist ever.
And lyricist too.

ohh yeah listening to this with my headphones at full volume, at 3 in the morning with my eyes closed, I can't ask for more.

This song tells you of a very lonely life
I'm 2h30 in the night with headphones and never can be weary of this one.
The early yeras with Brian Jones were the best and never the same without him..
Brian is who made them interesting and do different things with different sounds. After he left they just became riff based arena rock.
@Colonel Gumm some Girls is good. But nothing compared to brian jones era
@Colonel Gumm Goats head soup , it s only r and r, black and blue, some girls , tatto you.
I think Jones' death, which triggered Marianne Faithful's suicide attempt, she cursing Jagger for being cruel to Jones, changed Jagger. From then on, he ceased to be an artist and was content with being an entertainer. He wasn't willing to share his feelings. He made fun of that in Only Rock n Roll.
The early yeras with Syd Barrett were the best and never the same without him
One of my favourite songs. We used to
Listen to the Slow Rollers album on our family holidays as a kid. Brings back so many happy memories of a better time. One of the great ‘put down’ songs
Best song from Between The Buttons without a doubt
Backstreet Girl, Ruby Tuesday, Lady Jane, I Am Waiting ,Congratulations all from the other side of the Rolling Stones.
long long while loving you too long..dandelion

This is among my favorite Rolling Stones song. Very mellow and captivating. I think I first heard it in 2016 when I was 20
This has always been a favorite and had the album when it came out in 1966. Think it was a perfect discription of Brian. He was my favorite and that was just the way it was
un très bel album très original ! j'adore ! et souvenirs souvenirs de ma jeunesse...beaucoup de talent dans les compositions ..
I love this song.
Truly Jaggers romantic quest

There's nothing better than listen to this song while I close my eyes and think in my lover one!
Hope she wasn't your backstreet girl.

GREAT GREAT SONG.📀💿⭐⭐⭐🎸👍 ROLLING STONES ETERNITY 👅👅👅

Christine Keller and the Profumo affair was the sole inspiration for this beautiful song, who describes the classism, hypocrisy and meanmind of the ruling class (in the case British). Consequently the Tory party lost the near elections .
What a sad, beautiful song. Captures so much; sexism, classism, arrogance, sadness.
Where's the laugh react for this?
So you mean it captures the rolling stones
As a Beatles fan I always loved the lyrics from The Rolling Stones about women.
With the Beatles, love is always romanticized while with the Stones you hear the truth....
They were dumb pagan
So so beautiful! Another relatively unknown gem from the Brian Jones' era when the Stones were musically so creative, eclectic and daring. (P.-S. I can't wait to have the right lyrics of another unkown gem from the Stones : FAMILY (from the Metamorphosis album). The lyrics we can find on the Internet are not right, but my English is too limited to correct the mistakes. It has such an uncharacteristic ("unStonesy") and haunting melody and the lyrics are so delightfully dark and gloomy, a pure masochistic relish!)
There's only a Stones era for me with differents periods.
Who is listening to this song in 2040? And know that date is not a mistake.
Love the Stones misog songs
Never heard until now that it's about a married guy!
Yes.
This song is my favorite four many years ago have 45 years listening

TRES Cool/Light, Heavy!
Songs to play after hours ❤
After years.
Very underrated. I love it
Nick de Caro's accordion is beautiful.
goody goody gum drops im in france again with my back street girl on a rainy day even
Lovely
Grande Mick Jagger Rolling Stones
It's funny how everyone rails against misogyny but everyone loves the Rolling Stones and AC/DC.
Tongue in cheek ?
It's just a description of a sad reality.
@lithograph lithograph I was not talking about Stones privacy but the social meaning of the lyrics. Try to be polite almost when you don't understand.
I'd say he's illustrating an attitude/practice, not advocating it. It's social commentary, social criticism. Just as Sympathy for the Devil didn't advocate Satanism.
💕
Reminds me of Trumpton and Camberwick Green
本当にいい曲ですね!
American audiences were hoodwinked with release of Between the Buttons, because already released hits had to appear on them it bumped this majestic tune from its tracklisting.

the sun, the moon and the rolling stones (Keith)
HAUNTING WALTZ....truly one of the best songs they've ever recorded; try bobby darin's version too!!!
Bobby Darren did a version of backstreet girl??
The prettiest song, with the meanest lyrics. Wait! I forgot "Stupid Girl" which came out in 1966. The prettiest song, with the 2nd meanest lyrics.
Not mean but realistic, an upper class man abusing of a young working girl, it's still happen often.
@@Methildeyeah the rolling stones did it often
No, they were not upper classe back then and still far to be really reach.
It could be inspired by Profumo scandal in 1963
💝💝💝💝💝♥️👑 שיר נהדר

You won't hear this or Stupid Girl on Classic Rock Radio Stations
This is my "nirvana"".
Eigentlich das beste Lied der Stones überhaupt. - (Danach kommt dann "Time Waits for no One".)
Beautiful song. Kind of insulting to the mistress though.
I actually think the song can be used as a positive thing, if used as a learning device for parents of daughters, to have them listen to it, as I did with my own daughter. To help women recognize the signs to avoid falling into the trap of becoming the dreaded "other woman".
Yes, from the man who used her in secret.
🎧🔊 Great 👌🏼
Geez he won't allow this girl to do anything. Hope he is paying her well.
THE ROLLING STONES FOREVER!
Lots of hidden truths in this song!?
Interesting to compare this lovely little waltz with the more worldly, rockier Factory Girl on Beggar's Banquet. The later album is much more solid, the earlier song is more fragile but infinitely better.
sly high society jibe
i was in love whis my back street girl ,so this song is important for me
If you understand those lyrics, sorry for her.

Give credit to Brian..
@lithograph lithograph When he was on it he was ON IT. I should thank God and try and learn something positive from sone of the examples Brian left us. He contributed many a special touch that brought Stones songs out of the drab ordinary. If he did collaborate and helped shape a song before the finished songwriting product than he deserved a song writing credit - which Jagger/Richard never gave him
