Yes, 500 yds isnt hard, ive been swimming competivly for speed for 4 years, and i do about 5-10 miles a day in training with my swim team. BUT try doing 500yds, Rest 2 mins, 42 push ups, Rest 2 mins, 50 sit ups, Rest 2 mins, 4-6 Pull ups, Rest 2 mins, and Run 1.5 miles. All workouts on a certain time limit, that you have to make, like for example, swimming 500 yds has to be done in 12mins. Thats what makes it hard.
To be honest, im not sure myself. Im a FUTURE Sailor, i've yet to enlist and become a Rescue swimmer, if you want to, just ask a recruiter, dont be afraid to talk to one. Just because you talk to one doesnt mean you HAVE to join, you can talk to them if your just interested, thats what their there for.
I used to be a competetive swimmer and im hoping to get into coastguard and become an AST

@usnpilot231 Lol, you think that's all they have to swim, is 500 yards?
my dad is a retired coast guard rescue swimmer and the furthest he swam was 6 and a half miles!! oh yeah, hes the man
@usnpilot231 try 1500- 3000 meter swims.
hey maybe it's my bad english but why do they have to learn how to sew?
Because they have to repair rescue equipment when not saving lives.
