The Day Elvis Died. August 16, 1977. Sylvia of the Sweet Inspirations maybe explained Elvis the best out of the millions of others who felt the loss at the time. On that hot day in August when Elvis died in 1977 Sylvia memorably explained "I made the mistake of calling Elvis boss once, and he quickly corrected me; I'm not your boss, I'm your brother." THIS WAS ELVIS.

Brand new Elvis book, Elvis: The Quest for an Oscar, great cover, 536 pages. The book will convince you that Elvis deserves an Oscar for his contributions to the movie industry. Elvis was able to capture the persona of all the characters he played to perfection. The 31 movies that Elvis made always entertained everyone who watched them. Austin Butler will most definitely receive the Oscar for his dynamic performance in “Elvis”. It’s time Hollywood gave Elvis the Oscar he deserves. “Elvis”, the movie you must see, Elvis: The Quest for an Oscar, the book you must read….

A lot of people don't know this, but Elvis insisted on singing the tribute song to MLK : "If I Can Dream" in June 1968 (2 months after MLK was assassinated) for his 1968 Television Comeback Special. It was one take. Unbelievable Talent. TCB!

Baz Luhrmann is a superhero. He will go down in history for this pic. Third time I've watched the trailer. That's got Oscar written all over it. It will win 3 Oscars minimum and be nominated for dozens of awards. This real story will make millions of new young fans. Elvis was a YOUTH MOVEMENT more than anything. And that energy turned right into the civil rights movement and changed the world. Austin Butler looks like a young Johnny Depp and he will nab one of those Oscars for sure. This movie just made him a star.

Great reaction. Elvis was ridiculed, threatened, and slated for almost everything he did right from childhood and especially in the segregated times of the 50s and 60s but he just keep true to himself and his roots. He put it all out there and reached for the stars. That man had balls of steel!!! He was so far ahead of his time, incredibly talented, and charismatic. Eventually, the whole world couldn't help but love the guy. Never be another Elvis. An inspiration to us all. The GOAT!

Elvis' earlier 1950's dress sense marks him as a true style icon. And it feels particularly relevant today - Cuban collar shirts, wide-legged, pleated trousers, blousons - these are all garments making the rounds on the menswear circuit, but they were also integral to Elvis’ 1950s style wardrobe. He did it all first.

And the 56 WDIA Goodwill Revue they have BB King "thanks man for all the early lessons you gave me." (Tri-State Defender) but no Rufus Thomas who introduced him. I don't know if they will talk about Jackie Wilson club Tripp show and Elvis "Bobby Wilson talks about his father Jackie Wilson and Elvis Presley relationship." Interview, nor did I see Fats Domino in the cast who Elvis had as his inspiration. The Aloha from Hawaii should be in there too. You never know.

Although I grew up with Elvis, once I hit 9 The Beatles and the British Invasion got me, followed by psychedelic and harder rock music. Elvis went into the background for me, but I always respected him. I don't normally go to the theater - I watch movies from home. But Austin Butler gives me chills in this and I'm going to the movies to see it because of him. And I'm dragging my husband and 38-year-old son with just to support the movie. Can't believe Austin was Tex in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. I didn't recognize him & never saw him in the teen shows on TV.

Thanks for your reaction. Neither Hanks nor Austin Butler look or sound like the characters they play. Parker may have been Dutch, but he did not have a heavy accent like Tom Hanks portrays in this movie (plenty of clips of him talking on UA-cam). Most actors who portrayed Elvis made the same mistake that Austin Butler makes: they talk with a deep voice that is more reminiscent of Elvis impersonators. Just look up Elvis interview clips and you'll hear he actually had a pretty high voice when he talked. And nobody who ever played Elvis was as handsome as he was, that is just impossible. Elvis was born in a 1 room shack of a house his dad built with money he borrowed from his boss on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi. That's how dirt poor they were. He was one half of identical twins; the other boy - Jesse Garon - was stillborn. They were so poor, that Jesse Garon was buried in a shoebox in an unmarked grave. At Graceland they have a plaque with his name on it in his memory. He always got along with the black community and learned a lot about music from his friends of color. Also, according to the one drop rule, Elvis would not be considered white, since he has Cherokee ancestors on both the Smith (his mother) and the Presley (his father) sides of the family. His paternal grandfather was not happy that his two sons, Elvis' father Vernon and his brother Vester, married two sisters, Gladys and Clettes who were known to have Cherokee blood in their family tree. But he was in denial about the Cherokee blood in his own family tree. As a child, Elvis already had many friends in the black community at the time his family was one of 4 "white" families that lived in the predominantly black neighborhood The Hill, just across from Shake Rag. His childhood friend Sam Bell said that some of the (black) kids in that neighborhood had lighter skin than Elvis (ua-cam.com/video/LrFCyNMvZWk/v-deo.html). One of Elvis' bodyguards once said that he thought it was a miracle Elvis got into Humes High School in Memphis, because it was "lily white". Elvis wanted to be more open about his Native ancestry, but his manager "colonel" Tom Parker (real name Andreas van Kuijk) was against it because he was afraid it might cost Elvis fans (and himself money). They did have Elvis play characters in his movies though where he had Native American blood (Flaming Star, G.I. Blues, Stay Away Joe). Once Elvis had his own (apprentice) job learning to be an electrician, he saved up his money and bought his clothes in the same style that many of his friends of color wore. He was called a (forgive me, just stating facts here) "n-lover" and got beaten up several times too. Later, when he was an established star, he would not perform at places where the members of color of his back-up band/orchestra weren't allowed.

Tom Hanks role as Col. Parker was creepy. He was like that little devil tapping you on the shoulder trying to get you to do things that you know you shouldn't. Imo Austin Butler was awesome as Elvis.

An Elvis TV series would be great. But it should be a what if history series. What if Elvis never broke up with his girlfriend?

@ EJ & Andrea Vlogs ; 1st : Tom Parker / Dries van Kuijk = real name! was born in The Netherlands / Holland in the military city of Breda ! 2nd : Tom Parker was never a real military "colonel" but just a southern honorary title he entitled himself to hide his background wich was hustling at county fairs ! 3rd Tom Parker because of that never had an American passport and was factual illegal in the USA and therefore could never travel outside the USA because then his illegal status would come out . 4th : Tom Parker from day one owned 50%! of everything Elvis made ! So what Elvis received Elvis also had to pay taxes over it ! Today a manager gets at least 15-20% of a celebrity income if they are top notch ! 5th : Because Elvis was not business wise he let Parker get away with it and because Elvis came from a generation were u didn't believe in contracts but someone's word. 6th: Tom Parker did manage Elvis commercial wise fantastic in the early days - He lost it after 1969 when he was pursuing his own greed - He was the first to start mass branding of Elvis his name on everything to sell , wich today in the 21st century is common but in the 50's-60's-70's it was unheard of. 7th : The scene were on tv it was mentioned MLK was shot and Tom Parker said : " It has nothing to do with us = "white plp" , showed at that moment Elvis his true colors being raised as a kid by and with blacks . His reply says it all : " it has everything to do with us' = Blacks are also my people ! Unheard of to state such a thing in the 50's-60's-70's ! 8th: Because Elvis never toured the world , his fans came in the millions to see his shows in the USA ! 9th : Tom Parker also was the one to cut off the offer of Barbara Streisand for Elvis to star with her in the upcoming movie " A Star is born " in 1976'. Why? Cause Parker wanted his Elvis name not besides Streisand on the billboards but alone , wich was just another tactic of him to go for the easy million money he could get to let Elvis tour again same cities in the USA and stadiums = bored Elvis to death = "like an animal in a cage doing day in day out the same tricks till it dies." 9th : After the Aloha from Hawaii satellite success worldwide , Tom Parker sold the entire Elvis Presley music back catalog in mid 1973 for $ 5.4. million ! getting his 50% = $2.75 Million clean while Elvis still had to pay of his $2.75 million taxes and all other expenses . Can U imagine Michael Jackson's the entire music back catalog being sold for this chump change amount and having to pay taxes over ur part just because your manager is greedy? 10th : The main reason for Elvis having the whole top floor of the Hilton Hotel for himself was not because it fitted a man of his stature but more because Parker made a deal with the Hilton family to have Elvis as their sole star for 5 years AND.... he has no money ceiling when he gambles! So in the end Elvis was for Tom Parker his piggybank to gamble millions away without anyone putting a stop for it. Hilton got huge income because of Elvis , Parker got still his 50% on everything and a free gambling ceiling for millions of dollars ! 10th : This also shows what Elvis endured in the 50's when coming up. Racism by his fellow whites who hated for him daring to bring "soul" / Blackness to mainstream music for their teens to hear . He dared in a time the KKK was ruling high and opening the door for black music to become mainstream !

Elvis grew up in a mixed area of what we would call the Ghetto and his local church was a black church which he sung at, this trailer is making it seem as is it was just a travelling church he found, which is wrong. The Elvis story doesn't suit the current woke narrative. Elvis grew up broke in a mixed area of the USA
