Excellent commentary from you❗ Thank you. I'm bothered because I've seen some people claiming to be "researched fans" or "historians" already out there complaining that the scene of Elvis enjoying himself with black folks in a gospel Tent Revival is not truly part of his childhood history. But these so-called historians are disturbingly misinformed.
I will say this, I'm glad to see the director went deeper in places than any other Elvis filmography ever bothered to go.
I'm personal friends with older black folks from Memphis that knew Elvis as a young Man, and I've also spoke with older black folks from Tupelo where Elvis lived as a child, and either they themselves, or their parents knew Elvis and his parents, and have revealed insights to me that most Elvis historians in biographers hardly ever covered.
We have had conversations discussing how none of the countless many historians & biographers have ever really done a thorough honest job of incorporating Elvis's connection to the black community (not just famous black artists) but also black folks that he was close to throughout his life.
It's almost criminal that this is the case and really unacceptable.
Especially considering people close to Elvis personally have talked about these things, and black folks that knew him personally have verified it.
First thing about this movie trailer that makes some of us happy seeing is the Gospel Tent Revival Scene where Elvis is a kid in Tupelo dancing with the folks in the tent.
We are happy about it because it's been ignored, almost virtually white washed out of the history &/or narrative of his childhood.
This really happened in Elvis's childhood.
It is quite bizarre and maddening over the years that this has largely been underplayed and almost ignored... by just about everyone really.
Very few people ever really spoke on it properly.
Fortunately the director of this film did what people like myself have done he drove to Tupelo and spent time talking with black folks from Elvis era.
In particular he talked with Sam Bell. (I've had the pleasure of speaking with him myself).
Sam described a couple different interviews Elvis joining him and other black folks and their families at gospel tent revivals.
The director of this film was paying very close attention to that interview and was smart enough to put that scene in this film.
It's crucial that people understand this.
There are some out there that like to Pretend or claim "this is made up history."
This is disturbing and it's nothing more than slop history that people deny this.
Truth is some of those type people really just are not as researched as they think they are.
On top of that, it's also an insult to Elvis... and most of all it's an insult to those black voices who knew Elvis, and said these things happened. Can't think of a bigger way to disrespect all those black folks that were part of Elvis life than all these years so many people ignored what they had to say.
These are usually the same people that are completely unaware of important names in Elvis's childhood in Tupelo - like John Allen Cooke,
    Janice 'Davis' Scales,
and her brothers James & Eugene,
    Bo Clanton,
    Willie Pooch and Robert Jamison.
They were all black folks. Many of them childhood playmates with Elvis, that most Tupelo historians ignored.
Yet some these "fans" want to run their mouth trying to deny an important fact of Elvis childhood, him rejoicing in a tent with black folk, as something Hollywood just made up.
Hell they didn't even know he had black childhood playmates by name, yet they want to act like they're somehow more knowledgeable.
The hell outta here with that.
They are an embarrassment to Elvis is what they are.
So anyway it's really a wonderful thing that this scene, an important part of Elvis's childhood, finally made it into a film covering his life.
Personally one of my favorite stories involves the time Elvis beat up a prejudiced white man defending the honor of his black friend named Albert Clark.
    - Talk about another story that has been completely ignored throughout the decades by just about everybody that ever had anything to say about Elvis.
It's awful weird, considering it was documented by a couple people close to Elvis at that time that witnessed it. Not to mention newspaper reports the next day in the press covering it.
A black woman named Nancy Rooks was one of the people that was witness and verified this in an interview years ago. Any so-called "researched Elvis fan" that has never heard of this, is either not being honest or just maybe not as researched as they should have or could have been over the years. This is way too important a story for any Elvis fan to not know about.
(Or for that matter even non fans should still know about stuff like this.)
Part of me was really hoping the director might be aware of that story and work it into a scene in the film, because people need to be more aware of things like that. Elvis didn't tolerate prejudice around him and he had no problem clipping a white man on the chin for crossing that line in front of him.
But I suppose that's too much wishful thinking they can only get so much packed into one film and have to, of course, stay within a certain storyline.
Again, appreciated your thoughts and you are reaction.
I will be hopeful and curious to see that the film in its entirety matches the power and Intrigue of this 3 minute film trailer.

Thank you for your fantastic comment! Also, thank you for understanding what I was saying, as many in the comments don't or misconstrued my words! I just want to see stories (especially of historical and legendary people) that are expressed and told as accurately as possible, without omitting and/or manipulating to fit a predetermined narrative. You articulated that and I feel like I am more enlightened from reading your remarks because I wasn't aware of all of the things that you mentioned! Thank you! Unfortunately, we often judge others without doing our own due diligence, which leads to rumors becoming "truth" simply because it sounded good. That is awesome that you had the pleasure of making the acquaintance of these people and I'm sure meeting you was a genuine pleasure to them as well!
I think that you, or somebody like you, should be on the production/writers team!😂

And I appreciate what you said about writing & producing. It is interesting you mentioned that, as at this time currently I have been working with some of those older folks from the black community to work on a thorough documentary that covers these topics.
Their voices matter more than most Elvis historians because they are the voices that can best speak on those things and deserve to be heard.

@@DrPGnGM Of course Elvis was influenced by the black community. The black community helped raise him.He lived 3 doors down from Shaqrag. His childhood friend Sam Bell said the black adults were crazy about him .Elvis said no sir and yes mam when addressing them. They knew he did not have to but he did out of respect. He was the kid that went in and out their homes and would go get what he wanted from their refrigerators. He was treated special. Elvis was a very sweet special child. Elvis said he was influenced by several music styles.. not just black music..white and black gospel, blues, country music. His style was a blend of all of those..made him so different. He was a Pentecostal ..they dance and sing like the black churches. He did attend black churches and got up and sang and reacted but he said he learned his dance moves from his white Pentecostal preacher. Elvis was raised in poverty and yearned to get away from it. His hardshops is what gave him great soul when he sang. You can hear the pain when he sings. He used to attend movies with his little black friend and crossover to the black section to sit with his little black friend. I believe Elvis identified so much with the black community and felt protective of its people when he was able to extend himself. He camebto the aid of pepple like Jackie Wilson and Roy Hamilton and the Prisonaires, etc, etc. In the army, a black soldier would only speak to Elvis..Elvis was part of the black experience except he was white. White elites hated him but not the black community. He was accepted like a brother or son. Google Baz's interview with Sam Bell, Elvis childhood friend. Elvis loved everyone. He was a kind, sweet humble generous man. His backup singers Ray Walker and Gordon Stoler said it was his kindness and generosity that killed him.Elvis was more than special..one reason he is still so popular.

@@margarettaylor8107 As I stated in the video and in countless comments... It doesn't matter what Elvis said, he is not a filmmaker, nor has he made a film about himself. Therefore, it remains that this is the first time that a major film production will explore the influence of the black community on him in a film. I never said what Elvis claimed, denied, embraced, said, or did....as I was not there. I'd greatly appreciate if you didn't misconstrue my words and take the time to understand effectively, thanks. If I felt that Elvis denied these things then I would explicitly express that. I'm fond of Elvis, but even that is irrelevant to the topic at hand, which is his influences that have been documented in a major motion picture.
Also, he didn't "have to address adults as sir or ma'am" you say? Why not? Children should address adults in this fashion, just because one doesn't do certain things doesn't mean that they don't have to or shouldn't. Respect doesn't recognize color, humans do.
You're supposed to do the right thing. Don't bestow excessive credit upon those that do unless you are just as willing to do the same for all! Those little black friends of his would've more than likely went to sit with him too, if that wouldn't of got them assaulted (or worse) for going to the white section with their little white friend/s.
Anyway, thanks for the comment. Again, this film looks good to me because we get to see how he was embraced and influenced by all of his surroundings, including the black community, as I clearly stated in my video.

People who are very familiar with Elvis know he was influenced by all types of music-blues, country, gospel and pop. They also know he readily gave credit to those influences with no hesitation.
Black influences for Elvis were Big Joe Turner, BB King, Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed, etc-country influences Hank Snow, Eddy Arnold, Ernest Tubb, Hank WIlliams, etc- from the age of 3 heard gospel music (black and white) and he went to both black and white churches for all night sings and preaching.........his pop music influences were Dean Martin, Frankie Laine, Bing Crosby etc-in his teenage record collection he even had opera singer Mario Lanza records.'
Around 2000 Rolling Stone polled 100 rock critics and writers (all creeds colors and religions) at to what song was the "Big Bang of Rock and Roll" they choice Elvis' 1954 hit "Thats Alright Mama"
Chuck Berry, LIttle RIchard and Bo Diddely all had their first record hits in 1955....so when Elvis recorded "Thats Alright Mama" in dinky Sun Studio in 54-he had never even heard of them yet.
Chuck Berrys first hit "Maybelline" was a reworking of country artist Bob WIlls hit "Ida Red" from the 1940s Chuck sped it up and wrote new lyrics to it-but no one says he took country music to get a hit
Chuck acknowledged that listening to the country shows from the Grand Old Opry in NAshville on radio was some of the first music he heard-it influenced his sound.
Ray Charles had several country hits in his career in the 50s, and 60s-he recorded several all country albums-but no one says he exploited country music-he was influenced by it.
The same with Elvis-Rock and Roll was different because it had elements of all types of music...blues, country, gospel and middle of the road pop. BB King said they did not get it wrong when they called Elvis the King. The bad myths about Elvis linger because the myths are heard and believed instead of checks upon.
I think a good You Tube video for you to react to would be "Elvis and the Black Community" it gives a view of Elvis that most do not know.

He was absolutely inspired by gospel. As a kid, he was the only white guy joining in singing gospel in a "black church". He loved it as he grew up amongst the poor section of town with mostly black folks. Thats why he earned the right to sing like he did. He earned it.
The Marthin L. King murder affected him so deeply that he sang a tribute song to him and Kennedy (after he too was shot) in his comeback. Check it out: "If I Can Dream" 1968 - (Elvis in a white suit).

Quotes by black artists about Elvis Presley-many by artists who actually knew him and called him friend. Elvis was brought up to be color blind because he grew up dirt poor on the black side of town called Shake Rag in Tupelo Mississippi.
“Elvis Presley was the sweetest, most humble and nicest man you’d want to know.”
    Muhammad Ali
“Elvis was God-given, there’s no other explanation. A Messiah comes around every few thousand years, and Elvis was it this time.”
    Little Richard
“He was an integrator, Elvis was a blessing. They wouldn’t let black music through. He opened the door for black music.”
    Little Richard
“He was fantastic… When he danced, the people danced, the girls would actually faint because of what he was doing. The people didn’t care if he was white or black, he was a good artist and they felt his music.”
    Lavern Baker
“Describe Elvis Presley? He was the greatest who ever was, is or ever will be.”
    Chuck Berry
“I wasn’t just a fan, I was his brother. He said I was good and I said he was good; we never argued about that. Elvis was a hard worker, dedicated, and God loved him. Last time I saw him was at Graceland. We sang Old Blind Barnabus together, a gospel song. I love him and hope to see him in heaven. There will never be another like that soul brother.
    James Brown
“Elvis had an influence on everybody with his musical approach. He broke the ice for all of us.”
    Al Green
“Elvis was a giant and influenced everyone in the business.”
    Isaac Hayes
“I remember Elvis as a young man hanging around the Sun studios. Even then, I knew this kid had a tremendous talent. He was a dynamic young boy. His phraseology, his way of looking at a song, was as unique as Sinatra’s. I was a tremendous fan, and had Elvis lived, there would have been no end to his inventiveness.”
    B.B. King
“Elvis, he was unique. And he loved the blues, it was a pity he didn’t do more”
    B.B. King
“That’s my idol, Elvis Presley. If you went to my house, you’d see pictures all over of Elvis. He’s just the greatest entertainer that ever lived. And I think it’s because he had such presence. When Elvis walked into a room, Elvis Presley was in the f-ing room. I don’t give a f- who was in the room with him, Bogart, Marilyn Monroe.”
    Eddie Murphy
“Well a lot of people said Elvis stole our music. Stole the black man’s music. The black man, white man, has got no music of their own. Music belongs to the universe.”
    Rufus Thomas
“A lot of people have accused Elvis of stealing the black man’s music, when in fact, almost every black solo entertainer copied his stage mannerisms from Elvis.”
    Jackie Wilson

These are great quotes by great people, his reputation and influence wasn't in doubt, at least not by me. However, these people knowing him (all that you chose to black) further emphasizes that his story in all of it's essence and all of the influences on him (including from the black community) should be told as well. I believe this movie will accomplish that and stand out from the other major productions that precedes and omits these things!

The director seems to be taking the right approach to telling this story and I read that he's been long waiting to make this movie so add the three years they spent actually making the movie on top of the year and a half the actor who played Elvis spent working with the right people plus also, coming at his portrayal so he can tell the story of Elvis as a person has made me very hopeful that this movie is as accurate as you can get and tell his life story. Obviously, they won't be able to include EVERYTHING but it seems to include the most important parts, the only thing I couldn't glean from the trailer is if it will touch upon Elvis' stillborn twin brother because it's should be included in some way since it would majorly affect anyone to lose a brother but to lose your twin? Nobody claimed or even mentioned anything about what Elvis said or did. Elvis was/is not a filmmaker, his story is being told to the masses via film. This is the first time, as far as I'm aware of, that a major production is exploring this major influence in his musical style.
You should listen more effectively before dropping random "facts" as that leads to confusion.

Yes black music was a big influence on Elvis. I talked with a woman that went to high school with him in Memphis & she said he was made fun of because he liked bright colored clothes, his hair was longer than other boys, she said he was a nobody that kept his head down when he walked down the hall with no eye contact. He learned from the black church, loved to sing & move with them. I hope this movie tells about his early influences from thd black community.

He told Baz Lurhman that Austin Butler is the hardest working actor that he had ever worked with. He didn’t even know Baz Lurhman, but he felt strongly about Austin Butler being right for the role of Elvis. Austin Butler fostered a mentor/mentee relationship with Washington when they were in “The Iceman Cometh” together on Broadway.

His musical influences were diverse. of course R&B had a major and powerful influence, but Country, Gospel, and even classical music such as Mario Lanza, was part of his influences. It is indeed important to recognize ALL music that molded Elvis's musical style. to claim it was from only one genre is as wrong as ignoring any of them.

Butler did not perform all the songs, a few from the 1950s period he did-but later its my understanding that Elvis' actual recordings are used. It is obviously Butler singing where he is wearing the Pink suit and someone yells at him to get a haircut but If you listen later in the trailer when Butler is wearing the black leather suit-that is Elvis singing. The clip of "Unchained Melody" in the trailer.......that is Elvis singing. Elvis had a 3 octave voice and it would have been hard for Butler to do justice to the range of styles Elvis could sing.

As a Christian, I loved the gospel music side of things myself. And the blacks know how to have church! African-Americans always be doing things like that right though.
Of course I agree with you that Tom Hanks is one of the best actors; it's just an indisputable fact. So I respect you bro, for having good taste in actors.
But I've actually been an Austin Butler fan for years. So this movie works for me. Butler's Elvis impression is also excellent. So different from his real voice - coming from someone who obviously knows what his real voice sounds like, so I was impressed when I saw the trailer. (how it actually sounded rather than the Johnny Bravo impression of everyone tries). Some of the singing's Austin as well, but there are also some Elvis voice tracks in there. Someone else who's a big deal now that's in this movie is " Dacre Montgomery " who plays "Billy" Hargrove in "Stranger Things"; and he's also a terrific actor in his own right.
Most people would know Austin Butler from the Sex and the City prequel "The Carrie Diaries". But I mainly like him from his ViaCom (including Paramount and Nickelodeon) and Disney stuff - both tv shows and movies. (He's been the male lead several times - Including in the High School Musical Film "Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure" as "Peyton" Leverett - the overall lead a couple of times - and very well). As far as a big blockbusters he's done - Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon A Time In... Hollywood". He played "Tex" Watson; the villainous cowboy with the really excellent beard and hair down to just above his shoulders.
Yet this role will be the one people remember after they see this film, I'm sure. Seems it could be award worthy. Fun fact: At the time I'm posting this, he's the male Vanessa Hudgens has been in the longest relationship with. And she's the female he's been in the longest relationship with. (They're not together anymore though, they're both taken by other people).
Baz Luhrmann's also the one who directed the Leonardo DiCaprio / Claire Danes version of "Romeo & Juliet", the remake of "The Great Gatsby" also with DiCaprio, "Australia".. just some very excellent content. So the man knows his stuff. And I'm pretty excited for this movie (as an Elvis fan, son of a fan, nephew of a massive mega-superfan). - And I enjoyed your reaction to this. It was honest; refreshingly so.

Much is made about Elvis not giving enough credit to black artists but in the Elvis world this in my long experience of being a fan is far from the truth. What I will say is he took the basic components of black music, as well as country like building a musical aeroplane and took it through the sound barrier. It was then helped kept flying by many other influences such as Dean Martin and Mario Lanza.

    • @DrPGnGM
      @DrPGnGM  2 роки тому

It's not about whether Elvis gave credit or not, as he wasn't a filmmaker. It's about those responsible for telling these stories not including the truth or the entire story.
This is the first time that the influence that black artists, of that time, had on Elvis will be explored in a major production. That is what makes this movie intriguing to me. I don't know if he gave his influences their credit, as I wasn't there, but I believe he did, as you do yourself (according to your comment). It's refreshing to see this finally being shown.

@ Dr.PGnGM ; Lets put some facts in here for you to consider. 1st : Remember that after WW2 the children-teens of the 30-40's Frank Sinatra generation = who are now called the boomer generation , only had pop music made up and sang by crooners as Andy Williams , Frank Sinatra , Dean Martin , Pat Boone singers who sang boring tweedledeedum songs or covers of black artists who were in the 50's banned and never played on mainstream radio or any audio devices - records - for teens to hear . Why? because of segregation ! So teens of the 50's = youth never heard little Richard , BBKing or so on mainstream radio stations or airwaves cause "black" music was then only available on some hidden AM station / colored music stations to be heard and mostly in only colored neighborhoods . 2nd ; Now here comes a young kid from the South - Elvis - born and raised with and between blacks and raised by them and for that influenced by soul-black sounds and movements , who starts moving his hips ( as black priests would do in churches ) and bringing a fresh new unheard "mix of country-black" sound for the 50's teens to listen to and en masse liked it , to the dismay and anger of their parents = WW2 Frank Sinatra generation , who started - because of the mass hysteria he started with the girls and boys idolizing him as their new pop idol - to call newspapers , tv networks and radio stations to have Elvis banned from the airwaves cause he dared to expose their children to this devilish ' black " sound wich was seen as filth ! So he , as in many other things , Elvis , started this whole youth culture of idol adoration . He was the 1st to dress like blacks do cause he liked their style ! He dressed in colors - pink/yellow "flashy clothes " unseen and done then - drove and bough Cadillacs and earned millions before he was 25! 3rd ; Elvis was also the 1st to be name branded for commercial deals by his manager Tom Parker wich is nowadays normal to have your name on everything , but then , never done before yet Elvis started it . 4th ; Entourage of people = bodyguards etc. He started it with his Memphis Mafia . 5th ; First artist to own a fleet of airplanes when most superstars in the 70's hired them . 6th ; Tom Parker was great for Elvis in the 50's and early 60's but later neglected Elvis and became greedy by owning 50% of everything Elvis made while Elvis still had to pay over his part income taxes . 7th ; Tom Parker did manage to cut as always a better deal for him by " stucking Elvis to the Hilton biggest showroom -3.500 seats - " and making the deal with Paris Hilton's great grand father that Parker could gamble without a ceiling of debt . So Elvis was paying after 1972 also partly every time Tom Parker his gambling debts and Tom Parker had Elvis touring over and over again the same cities and stadiums until he died . 8th ; Tom Parker was an illegal immigrant and had no passport so thats the sole reason Elvis never toured the world. Tom Parker was born in The Netherlands and the city of Breda and named Dries van Cuijk . That 'Colonel" was a honorary title he gave to himself when hustling in the 40-50's at county fairs . 9th ; Yes Elvis did want to fire Tom Parker after 1973 when he found out of his debts etc . Point was Elvis had zero knowledge of financial business and choose to let it go when Tom Parker threatened him with millions Elvis owned him in all sort of bs expenses . 10th ; What was Elvis his greatest achievment people forget nowadays with all this mixing of music styles ? HE DARED IN THE 50'S WHEN THE KKK WAS RULING THE SOUTH OF THE USA TO SING-MINGLE = OPEN THE DOOR FOR WHITE TEENS/YOUTH TO LISTEN TO A BLACK SOUND AND WITH THAT GETTING TO KNOW THAT THERE WAS ALSO MORE DIFFERENT KIND OF MUSIC THEN "white" sound by crooners . AND THAT HE = ELVIS , GOT THE HEAT FROM MAINSTREAM WITH HATE BY HIS FELLOW WHITES , HE TOOK IT AND DARED TO GO ON CAUSE S ELVIS SAID HIMSELF ; " I DON'T DO ANYTHING WRONG '.

    • @DrPGnGM
      @DrPGnGM  2 роки тому

You typed a lot. However, the majority of what you said had zero relevance to te topic at hand.... which is that this is the first time that a major film production is going to tell the influence that music from the black community had on this legendary artist and I'm excited to see it. Nobody accused him of stealing, being racist, or anything else negative. You took that notion and ran with it for whatever reason, but I'm sure you know.🤦🏿‍♂️
Influence and steal aren't synonymous. As I stated, this film will be the first time that a major storyteller or film producer will explore this part of his life. Anything else you interpret is on your own accord. That's a fact to consider.

🎬 I will definitely watch this film in the cinema with a friend who has not (yet) become such a big Elvis Presley expert and fan! But what bothers me massively now... the great Elvis Presley songs from the 50s will only be sung by the main actor and played in the film, because the original Elvis songs are only in mono. The original Elvis Presley recordings from the 50s are said to not match the "recording quality" of the film ⁉️ 🤔
🎬 I find that very annoying, questionable and quite strange! From 1960 onwards, however, all other Elvis Presley songs in the film are supposed to be heard with the original voice of Elvis Presley ⁉️ Unfortunately, I also read that these great original Elvis Presley songs are also mixed with the voice of the main actor should, which I would then find absolutely impossible and unnecessary! 😤
🎬 So wait and see what will actually happen!✌ Will you also watch this film about Elvis Presley and his difficult relationship with his manager?

I have known Elvis was influenced by southern gospel and black music since this was a child in the mid 80’s. I’m happy they are showing that in this movie bc it’s fact, but it’s a little strange and unfortunate that the movie has to pay tributes to blackness to be taken serious by some black people. It seems to be very egocentric. Elvis was different from nearly all musicians at the time, black or white. Everyone is influenced by someone before them, and especially by the environment and culture where they grew up. Dirt poor Memphis boy that spent time in black churches and choirs, around black people, and as well as being around southern gospel music of all races, made Elvis. I get being upset at the fact a movie might lie about some of Elvis’s influences (that pisses me off too), but if the only way you are willing to give Elvis his flowers and/or give this movie a chance is because credit is given to your race (rather than the individuals and locale in the south that were an eclectic mixture of races bc he wasn’t influenced by blacks or whites in NY or California for example) than, I think that’s unfortunate. Everything doesn’t have to stroke your racial ego. Maybe I’m misreading you, and I know this video is 4 months old, but your reaction isn’t a unique one it seems. Just sharing my thoughts. Elvis didn’t worry about skin color that much, and he was born in 1935, so it’s sad we care about it so much in 2022. Ya know?

    • @DrPGnGM

That's good that you know that, but film is a means to bring stories to the masses. I mean, to express that people desiring to hear or observe truth as being shameful is kind of ridiculous though. The issue should be with why the previous storytellers felt it necessary to portray an inaccurate story in the first place. I don't think anybody is taking anything away from Elvis or his greatness by appreciating an accurate story. That's how you, in particular, choose to interpret it. Again, Elvis was a great musician, not a storyteller, so blaming people that dislike how one chooses to tell his story, especially after they identify the erroneous parts of the story, as disrespect to him isn't a bad look on the people that realize it, it's a bad look on the person/party that purposefully portrayed it inaccurately. Truth isn't a color or ethnicity, truth should be sought by everyone in everything. Lastly, obviously the people that you're referencing aren't only interested in Elvis because this movie is highlighting some of his influences....if that was the case then why would they watch the other movies to complain in the first place?🤔 They are indeed interested in Elvis' story, even more...an accurate version of it. You definitely didn't hear me show anything besides admiration for Elvis. Oh, and to answer your ridiculous question in regards to the color of one's skin... why would a white person "worry" about skin color if it wasn't their own skin color that was perceived as an issue, back then or now? You can't be serious and yes, you definitely didn't comprehend anything I said because none of that was articulated by myself, stop manipulating narratives. Have a blessed day though.

No disrespect intended but until we start calling everything that came into being only in this country American culture we will never be a unified country. Elvis is American culture, MJ is American culture, the temptations are American culture, Frank Sinatra is American culture. All American artists are a product of American culture. That comment wasn't disrespectful, I agree with it, wholeheartedly. However, it wasn't relevant to anything that I stated in the video.
Nobody claimed or even mentioned anything about what Elvis said, did, or to which culture he belongs. Elvis was/is not a filmmaker, his story is being told to the masses via film. This is the first time, as far as I'm aware of, that a major production is exploring this particular major influence in his musical style, regardless of what culture you want to call it. That is what I said. It is well documented that he has a lot of influence from and experience with the black community, amongst other things, that has yet to be shown in a major, motion picture. This is American culture, EVERYTHING about him is, so I'm happy to see that they might tell his entire experience and not just what people want to emphasize and omit!
I can express myself very well and nothing that you mentioned was stated by myself. Just like you, no disrespect intended.
      Thanks for the comment!

@Dr. PGnGM you my friend are indeed well spoken. My mistake. I watched again and your correct you didn't say what I thought. I had thougjt you said he was a product of African American culture anf infeed you didn't. You said he wzs influenced by it. My point was your culture is my culture and mine is yours. I now see you agree. You are part of my family. Your words had a profound effect on me. I feel ashamed if I made you feel unwelcome in my life. You are exactly what what I mean by we the people.

@@joannedungan8381 I would disagree with everyone being of the same culture. The unique thing about America is that we have invited many cultures into our country and they have had a profound effect on the personality of this nation and on other cultures. That does not mean that we are not of the same human brotherhood. Where we should be 100% united is we are Americans and our loyalty should be to America and we should be welcoming and accepting of to all of our American brothers and sisters. From music, to food, to how we dress, or our style, our multitude of cultures are continuously impacting one another. I honestly believe this nation was built from a "subset" of many nations by design. We literally have different cultural cities within our larger cities like Chinatown. Generally speaking people of the same culture may prefer to live among those within the same culture and there is nothing wrong with that. I believe there is also an American Culture which seems to be more difficult to define to me. We are a literal melting pot as the vast majority of people who have ever been on American soil are the descendants of immigrants. It is actually a very interesting topic. Frankly I should have been born Latino.... lol I love their food, and music, dance, and all the brilliant colors not to mention their architecture :D :D

Thank you for your opinion and like I said you made great points that give me reason to rethink my own

Elvis always gave credit to the black community and influence. When they would call him the king he deflected and would say Jesus is king.

    • @DrPGnGM
      @DrPGnGM  2 роки тому

Lol who is "they" Rodney? Anyway, I never mentioned who Elvis gave credit to. You need to watch the vid again and listen. My point and only point is that FILMMAKERS in a MAJOR production have never before shown the influence from that part of his life before on screen. Elvis is/was a legendary musician, not a storyteller. Therefore, what he said or did is irrelevant if it isn't shown or told accurately by those that choose to tell it. Don't forget to like the vid!👍🏿
Oh yea, Jesus is king!👑🙏🏿 Have a blessed day.
