omg 😭 that’s whole bag of avocados was 2.00 - in NY a single avocado is 2.00
I live in a much cheaper coutry, but again - avocados are super expensive, 1 avo is 2-3 dollars
I live in Arizona and you can get 6 avocados for $2.50
If there’s a sale I can find one avocado for $0.99 but yeah usually they are $1.50 to $2.50 each in my area
Same in Ohio!
Avocados grow in my state so they’re pretty cheap (about $0.50 per avocado is their normal price but a bit less if you buy a bag full) so it’s always wild to think about how much more expensive they are in states where they can’t grow
This is honestly one of the best “what I eat in a” videos I’ve ever seen. Easy and relatable meals
Wow thanks so much, I really appreciate that!💛
I AGREE!!! ❤️Julia is amazing!
I honestly feel really bad for people who can't afford food... Thankfully, I have never been in that position and have always had food around me to fuel my body... And honestly, this video just makes me realize how lucky I am.
I'm currently struggling with food 😩 no money for anything. Feeling awful
@@crazymumlife8735 awwh, I'm so sorry... I hope it gets better soon
@Sam Antha I do donate regularly. It's not that I just go around saying I feel bad... I really do try to help as much as possible
I wouldn't feel sorry for the food in this video. People seem to think foods are only good if you add a mass of stuff. When cooking from scratch is the best and cheapest way rather than relying on expensive, greasy, high salt packaged items to make the food taste better. Try sticking to a budget it make you so creative and a better cook.
@@LostNative honestly true, because actually my best creations in the kitchen came from the times where I had very little stuff in the house and had to get creative with it.
I love your 'what I eat in a week' series :D
im not vegan but, l'm trying to eat plant-based food because of enviroment issue. I live in Korea, I can't follow your recipe perfectly. But when I'm thinking what to eat, your videos help me a lot.
Thanks Julia😁
Thank you so much for your support!!💛💛 I'm happy to inspire some food creation, have fun with it and make it your own!🙌
That is awesome JS.
Really great video! This makes me want to try a $30 food week to show my husband that vegan food isn’t as expensive as he believes!
Yesss I love that idea!! Let me know how it goes over on IG 💛👏🏻
A cool tip my grandfather showed me about burping sauerkraut and fermented wines, was to add a balloon or nitrile glove to the lid of the jar so it never explodes, and you can visibly see when it needs to release it's gas. Thought I'd share :) Thanks for the helpful video, it gave me some new ideas!
Yes girl the struggle is real. Food is so expensive nowadays especially with the pandemic 😭. This is my first time on your channel and will definitely be subscribing for the food ideas :)
I absolutely love these types of videos it shows people that not everyone can afford luxury idea's and how to create meals out of what you have so Thankyou Julia for sharing this knowledge 🥰
Sooo happy to share💛💛
"I feel like my morning hasn't started unless I've made a warm drink" THIS is so true the day has not started unless there was a warm drink ritual had. Some people cross their legs and meditate while I watch my coffee brew and plan my day in my head.!
Yessss so happy someone can relate to me lol! 🙌💛
Finally someone who eats real meals with normal ingredients, lol thank you! I’m in Canada too and while some of the prices do compare some of your ingredients are cheaper which is interesting. But I love that these are meals and tips I would actually eat/use! Thank you for showing how practical and delicious a small budget can be when you’re vegan!
None of the grocery stores in my area in the US have a reduced produce section. I wish they did! Just discovered your channel and subscribed. Love all your healthy, creative Thingamabobs!
They really should do that here, I have honestly never seen a reduced produce section at any of the grocery stores I have been to
I love that you were honest about the caveats you made this week - your videos are always so lovely and honest!
Great inspo. I'm looking at eating less "processed crap" this year so these types of meals are perfect. Thank you. 😊
I loved this video! I especially appreciate how you showed the cost of each item in the beginning. Most of the "on a budget" meal inspo videos I watch don't show the actual prices of the ingredients. They do this weird thing where they divide the whole cost into serving sizes, if that makes sense. So I absolutely loved this!
I love this video because even though I'm not limited with what I buy, I don't have the ability to purchase more expensive items like maple syrup or nutritional yeast on the regular. This helps me to see some realistic recipes I can make for me and my husband who prefer to keep our grocery budget within a set range. Thanks for the inspo!
LOVE THIS SERIES! Just an Egyptian 17yr old girl who’s trying to create a healthy/plant based eating routine ✨✨and THANK YOU!!
New follower. For someone who’s vegetarian and also struggles with money this video was soo helpful. Thank you
You definitely have to use what you have already especially when you’re on a budget. I feel like it’s always a great idea to shop your fridge before making grocery list
Where I live avocados are so expensive, that I never expected them in a Budget challenge ^^
I'm glad you used up the things you had in the house as this is the most budget friendly thing you can do. And it looked delicious as always ^^
I absolutely love your heart and how compassionate you feel about the disenfranchised, homeless. Food is a basic necessity along with housing. It shouldn't just be for those who can afford it. We shouldn't have to settle for crappy processed food because we can't afford organic. Amen girl!
You just gained a follower! My husband and I are trying to eat less meat, and we have 3 (picky) kids, so I’m always looking for cheap and easy meals. Your recipes were perfect for all of this, but what made me hit the ‘subscribe’ button was hearing you talk about making sure to be grateful for what we have and keeping an eye out for others. You seem wonderful! ❤️
You really came up with some excellent ideas in this video, totally different to most. No stupidly expensive additives or ingredients that are unsustainable in the long run.
You also came up with ways of using incredients that is should eat, but don't like in a way I think I could stomach
Many thanks
This video is incredible! You really made me re-think how to avoid food waste and stretch groceries further!
Sooo glad I stumbled onto this video. I'm genuinely excited to try out some of these recipes! I'd fallen out with cooking because it seemed like too much work, and all the recipes I'd been cooking got kind of boring. Plus I've been ordering out way too often. Everything you made seemed easy and not time consuming, with fresh, easily attainable ingredients. Thank you!
this was so pleasant to watch. love how they're approachable. thank you for sharing!
This video definitely reflects your creativity & cooking skills! I’ve been vegan for 4 years and i learned a lot of new things from this video :) 💚🌱 p.s. Food is so expensive these days and I’ve definitely had struggles with $ & putting food on the table so I appreciate this video so so much!!
So I learned recently that people in the U.S. only spend about 6% of their income on food which is the LOWEST in developed countries. That really put some things into perspective for me. The U.S. seems to be so consumer-based and we buy so many things we don't NEED, maybe we want but don't NEED, and end up slacking on our food sources which leads us to buy cheaper more processed foods or avoiding organic foods. Idk this was just a realization for my cheap self to STOP FEELING GUILTY for spending money on food. These healthy/whole plant foods are the building blocks of my body so I SHOULD invest in my health this way.
Edit: it's all about priorities and money management I guess. I definitely have given up things so I could have more whole foods in my diet. There is a trade-off but I know for me if I don't take careful care of my body it can spiral very quickly into a dark place (mentally and physically) that takes more to get back out than just making the healthy decision in the first place.
I love this comment so much! I have felt that guilt before for spending money on food. But food is a priority for me rather than "things"
@@juliaayers111 exactly, agreed. I'm learning more and more that it's okay to save up money for "things" and prioritize my health while my friends are often the opposite. It's hard going my own way but I know what's best for my body and this way of living will serve me well.
I’m in America and I spend a lot of my income on food. But I know that could probably be rare. I make 95% of my meals so I buy quality, Whole Foods. I’m recently on a smaller budget and I’m finding it would be cheaper to buy ready made, processed foods but my stomach can’t handle those :/
That is interesting! I am from California but live in France and I feel like I spend as much money at home on food for just me as I do in France for me and my partner. Like I feel like food is SO expensive in the US. So thats crazy to hear!
I'm not very good at math but I did a quick calculation and it seems I spend 20% on food!
Even though you’re younger than me, I look up to you so much. What a LIGHT you are. 🤍
Awe! Age is but a number 💛 so happy to share my light, lots of love!🥰
Thank you for not wasting food for the sake of a video! ❤ I love this video because it’s beyond realistic. I always have something that needs to be used up, or remixed into something new and I’m glad to see I’m not the only one
im planning on going grocery shopping today and had no idea what to buy, i specifically came to youtube for one of your videos to find a new upload, and its on a budget!!! a lifesaver, thnk you thank you thank you
I love how real this video was!!!
This video just came up on my UA-cam suggested home page - and I loved it! So glad I can across your channel
It was so great to see how far you can make veges go if you try
I have a habit of not being able to stick to my grocery budget each week as I get distracted by the colours and want to buy all the vegetables 😂😬
you are the queen of cooking wholefood meals and i love it!
thanks for another amazing video 😘💛
Awe thank youuuuu so happy to cook and share💛💛
Hot tip for the chickpeas: throw them in a pot of water and then rub them between your hands. The peel and chickpeas will separate, making the process way quicker!
4:30 Overall, this haul was actually super interesting to me. Living in Europe (Poland more specifically) I find completely different products expensive or cheap! Plus, obviously 1CAD is not equivalent to 1PLN, the costs of living are different and the amount you earn too. A really valuable insight! Thank you!
You're right, no one wants a cabbage bomb ! Thank you for sharing so many great and easy recipes 💜
I love that you started with the Walmart markdown bags, I do too!
Awesome video!! Loved these creative ideas, thank you so much and appreciate your intentionality!!
This was so interesting... Please do more videos on a budget
I'll definitely make some more 💛😊
Yes I second this, very helpful to see some ideas on how to be creative with minimal ingredients!
I loved this video! So happy to find you! I look forward to more!
so many yummy things i need to try! love how creative you are with everyday basics. thanks for sharing 💕
Great video! I like that you used some of what you had and had some of what you bought left over. It’s a more realistic portrayal of eating on a budget. And I LOVE how produce-based this was.
I am trying to avoid gluten and dairy. I lean toward a pescatarian diet, but I occasionally eat meat (like on holidays). Most weeknight meals for me are vegetarian. And I am also trying to avoid coffee but failing. 🤣
Your videos really help give me inspiration for what to cook! I’m not vegan, but I’ve been trying to eat a lot healthier! These help so so so much :)
your creativity is so inspiring!
julia, youre allowed to have coffee. you dont have to be perfect. sometimes the things we like to eat/drink arent healthy, and it happens and its ok.
We all need a guilty pleasure and coffee is the best one in my opinion!!
But isn't coffee a healthy option when u don't overload it with sweeteners and sugar ?
@@ajsomebody1342 i 100% agree!
@@djihenearafa8414 i think that julia gets worried about the caffeine. a lot of people get actually addicted to it, but she only has a cup per day, so it should be fine!
Awe thank you! I know I'm allowed it's not about that, its simply not something that makes me feel my best and can sometimes trigger anxiety and poor sleep! However I truly appreciate your words 💛
I like this video because it’s hard for me to use all of the ingredients I buy before they go bad. I like seeing everything you bought and how you used it that week.
Great job. All of your meals looked amazing. Thanks for sharing. ❤
Great video! I really enjoyed how real this video was.
YOU ARE SO CREATIVE!!
Thank you so much this was amazing and super simple.
So many creative meals can’t wait to get in the kitchen
I love these videos Julia. Enjoy your week ❤️
Thank you! have a beautiful week as well 💛💛
This video is super inspiring! Thank you so much 💕
oi Julia, obrigada por mais um video maravilhoso. te amo
Julia I discovered your channel a couple days ago and I already love it, it brings me so much joy and inspiration to watch your videos. Greetings from Colombia 🇨🇴💕
Thank you so much for your support, I'm so grateful to share 💛
Thank you for this detailed video - helps a lot with all the cost cutting going on right now
Hola Julia
I love your videos, I look forward to the next one, you transmit such a beautiful energy that inspires me to eat with less guilt, I have been a vegetarian for 3 years, and I am making my transition and you have helped me a lot, keep it up ... greetings from Chile
Hola!💛 So grateful to share and spread my energy! Sending you lots of love my friend! 😊
Loved your authenticity!
Just a few days ago I found your channel and absolutely love it. I binged on your videos. I had a ED but I'm in recovering. You are really an inspiration because your food freedom is perfect. Maybe I get it back again. Greetings from Germany ❤️
Sending you so much love in your recovery, you've got this and I truly believe in you 💛
When u zoomed in on the pasta drip on the table. I lost it. This is great and inspiring
This is so awesome!! Also, People always say they can’t eat healthy because it’s too expensive but you just showed that it’s possible!
It definitely is possible and the more you practice living on a budget the better you get at it 😊
Loved this video! Please make more!
Girlll the kale as your flowers you read my mind I say that all the time. I am currently on a super tight budget will be taking this into account.
Thanks for the great meal ideas!
I appreciated your rant ❤
I live this! Most things I didn’t even know how to cook I’m definitely gonna try some meals😍
absolutely loved this video! :)
As an international student, one thing that's helped me keep tabs on my budget but also calorie intake is - cabbage, beans, lentist & rice
I usually meal prep lots of high protein, high fiber salads & also some kind of daal/ lentil soup
This lets me afford more fruit & veggies.
It's also super cheap to buy sauces/pastes to up the taste of daily foods so that meal prep doesn't boring - vegan mayos, vegan butter, hot sauces, Gochugaru, miso paste, soy sauce
I usually use this to turn my salads/rice bowls into burritos. :)
Unbelievably creative. Wow!!
I loved this! Thank you!
Love you girl!! ♥️♥️♥️
Oh my god I made the dish at 11:56. It was one of the best meals I've made. Thank you! 👏
Wow! Thank you so much for this video! Simple cooking and simple ingredients. I’ve been vegan for 8 months and I’m so glad I stumbled on your video. I’ve now subscribed and look forward to finally eating yummy food, not beans on toast or PB&J sandwiches 😂
that was so helpful!!! thank you!
Honestly, I love you and your videos SO much
Awe thank you so much for your support💛💛
also you should make an E-book cookbook with your staple recipes. Great way to make extra $ on the tube!
this was so wholesome in every single way!! thank you so much - so happy you appeared on my suggested
Thank you so much! So happy I popped up for you as well:) Have a beautiful day!
Dang! I'm hungry now. Great creativity!!
Hello, love your video! For the sweet potato gnocchi, stead of oat flour you should use cassava flour. It works very well.
Thank you for the rant in the middle of the video Julia, I never subscribe after watching what I eat in a day video, but your comment just showed me how special girl you are, so I am in for some more content from you. Have a nice day!
I appreciate that, thank you! So happy to share my little rant and talk about something that means a lot to me:) Have a beautiful day as well 💛
Very creative meals! For the issue of foods on the top shelf in your refrigerator freezing, make sure that there are no foods too close to any of the vents in the fridge.
Love this!!!
24:45 Roasted carrots are SOOOO good! I could eat these like roasted potatoes for sure!
I couldn't agree more they are so yummmmy💛
Everything looks great!
Noted down some of these meals to try! Where I am in Canada, we spend at least half of the year in the snow and with REALLY expensive produce (like a $3 cucumber or $7 for 2 bell peppers). I lived with some girls from Cali during my degree, and they were HORRIFIED at how much I used frozen/canned veggies, but they had never thought about living in places where tons of fresh veggies weren't always available.
Veggie bouquet… Love it!!!!
This video was so helpful!! Thank you so much. 💕Wonderful creative cheerful.
i need the recipies!!, tysm 4 the video y rellay enjoy it
This was impressive. And practical.
Wow, this was brilliant !!
One of my goals is to move to Canada next year. If that come to pass then we might see. I love all your videos 😍
6:43 When I make Sauerkraut at home I simply don't close the jars fully - makes it easier to avoid an explosion :D
Girl I love you so much
Also you can do a tortilla with the oat flour and water. So easy and good!!
I did floral bouquet for a magazine photoshoot back in September 2021 and I choose kale to be the center piece of the table bouquet and it was amazing. Have yo’ kale bouquet at your wedding baddie.
Everything looked soo yummy! You are an excellent cook!
Awe thank you so much!💛👩🏻🍳
When I get a notification that you have uploaded a video, my happy time begins 📸❣️🍊♥️🥳😘🥰🤩❤️.
💛😊💛😊💛😊
Stopping by to say I made that sweet potato, kale guacamole bowl thing and it was to die for! 🥰 I’ve had it a couple of times now changed up the beans and dressing a couple different ways and it’s so yummy! Thank you 🙏
So happy to hear that!! Happy eating my friend!! 💛💛
For peeling the chickpeas, try soaking them for a few hours and then running them under the cloth like that. It’s a technique my mom taught me for peeling beans when making moi moi.
I've made your recipe of sauerkraut for two times now ever since the other video your uploaded with the pickled carrots. SOOOOO GOOD. ♥️♥️♥️
Yesss I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed it 🙌🏻💛
New subscriber here 🥰🙌
I just saw another video from you, a grocery haul. I searched for vegan grocery haul, and you came up 💚 I have been vegan for 14 years and I am Norwegian, so like a comment from another one from Poland it is very different what the different prices are. Like fresh herbs are normally pricey here. I just looked it up, and right now 1 Canadian dollar is about 7 Norwegian kroners, and American dollar are about 9 Norwegian kroners. A package of firm tofu is like 33 NKR for 270grams at the more cheaper grocery stores. At Asian stores you can find it cheaper. Just to give an classic vegan example 😆 I don’t think it will be possible to do the same experience for that low, and have that much produce here. Frozen vegetables can be very cheap, so that would have helped. Even though I find this very interesting, and I love you and your spirit too 🥰
Thank you for sharing, love from Johanne, Norway 🇳🇴
