EZGO RXV Speed Upgrade - Navitas TAC 2.0 Controller Installation and Review

  • In this video I am installing a Navitas TAC 2.0 600amp AC motor controller in my 2015 EZGO RXV golf cart. I increased my top speed from 13 MPH to 32 MPH and it took about 30 minutes to complete. A pretty easy job for those who can follow instructions carefully.
I purchased the Navitas controller upgrade on ebay. Here is the link where I got it. ebay.us/KM9Qzj

I did the upgrade and immediately burned out a solenoid. I put in a second solenoid that was heavy duty and the golf cart eventually died. The solenoid seemed fine so I sent the controller out to be rebuilt. They sent it back to me but I haven’t put it back in to the golf cart. That was two years ago. My wife and I want to use this golf cart at our vacation house to gently cruise the lake community with our dogs. We don’t want to worry about whether or not the golf cart will strand us miles away from the house with no way of getting it back.

What diameter rims and tire height? Those rims look small... like 10 inches with tall tires. I would have guessed they are overall 18 inches ground to the top of the tire.

I guess my idea is getting more and more visible ford had a rear axle with a pulley on it and since the lithium batteries are getting lighter and lighter you could add to your hot rod a motor to run pulley and mount in the trunk of hit rod and run the pulley to put around car shows with no engine running would be cool and surprise everyone . These motors have a lot of torque I use the rxv to pull cars and trucks in to my shop if pulley daully up a slight driveway don’t stop the truck it will pull right up if you stop it shuts off the golf cart . Then you have recycle the key to get it back on and roll down hills and start over . More than likely you would have to use a sprocket like the slingshot uses to make this work , as for the free wheeling part while on gas motor not sure how to remedy that

Do you happen to know if navitas works with a hall effect type pedal box? When I run the diagnostics the foot switch is on without depressing the pedal. The resting voltage is good at .55v but the foot switch won't engage on the hall pedal. Not sure if this pedal is supposed to be that way and I just have the wrong pedal for this type controller or its something in the settings of the TAC2 controller I can change to make it work?

Sweet! That’s great to be able to do that! However on golf carts with only rear brakes, is it smart to do so? I’d love to kick mine up a bit, I get a steady 25 mph stock, out of my 2018 Tomberlin SS Coupe 48 volts, with 8, 6 volt Trojan batteries. But my cart has fantastic hydraulic brakes, drilled/scooted disk in front drums in rear! That I feel secure at any speeds I’ll get to on this cart. Now my wife has a 2018 EzGo TXT 72 volt cart, with 6, 12 volt deep cycle Trojan batteries. That leaps off the line from a dead stop, get to around 15 mph real quick, but then just gets up to 25, with the pedal to the floor and that’s all she wrote, unlike my cart if you back off just a tad, it slows down, where on mine I can feather the pedal an get 25, with reserve one I hit a hill. I would love to tweak my wife’s cart. However it’s the brakes that have me concerned, one time we were riding along at around 20 mph, when on a wet part of the road due to lawn sprinklers the road was very wet, when done idiot pulled out of a stop sign without looking!! I hit the brakes and horn at the same time, just quick enough for them to actually LOOK an STOP in time! After we spun around 180%, righ in front of where they would have been! On my cart, I’m fairly certain I would have stopped in time, between the great brakes and 265/50-12” high traction tires I have that look like a race car would have.

How does it do offroad, nothing crazy but some hills. I'm looking to convert my 97 club car ds to ac drive system. If you are using the stock motor do you know how many kw it is? Trying to find out if a complete navitas system will both go pretty fast and also go offroad and climb up hills or out of a ditch.

My ezgo had plenty of juice stock to do serious hills. The AC drive is the way to go for sure. I also did mild off roading. As long as my tires had traction, I was good for anything. The limit was the tires and 2 wheel drive

I have a curtis 225a controller but according to my amp meter it pulled 45 amps at most and then it really went down hill, literally flat ground and down hill only so I think my controller is bad just upgraded it to a 500a so see if it makes a difference. If it doesn't I was thinking of getting a navitas 4 or 5 kw ac setup, do you know how many kv your system is? Problem is that my wife likes the speed of it but wants something we can take in the woods. I want something I'm not pushing because it comes up to a little hill, as mine with the front tires up against a speed bump on a hill wont jump over it without any momentum.
