- Barry demonstrates, with a clearance, how open table practice helps a player to learn positional play and cue ball control. He describes each shot that he plays, and every shot is seen from his point of view using a headcam.

People who don't play snooker have no idea how insanely difficult this is. I don't think I'll hit a century in my life and he's doing it with a headcam whilst explaining every shot. Great clearance.

If you do give it a go, do it right from day 1. Watch some beginner stuff by Barry. If you play it once, chances are you'll be hooked straight away. But it's a struggle to get going if you do things wrong from day 1. You'll pick up bad habits.
snooker is a very mental game.
GloriousTapeworm ask around as you’d be surprised at the amount of people with their own tables in their homes, garages etc. Maybe ask on a community page online? Facebook?

Loved this tutorial. The head cam worked perfectly. I'm 76 yrs. old and love playing snooker. I thought I was pretty good until I saw this. I have the greatest respect for you sir.

George. Thanks for the congratulations to Kyren, he did play well didn't he. The head cam kept slipping a little which resulted in me rushing a couple of shots, we need to make some adjustment to the fixing.

Great video, I just love head camera videos because it gives you the same perspective we have when we actually play the game.
It's a nice feeling when I see the same shots you're going to play and also tell whether the aiming is correct or not. I think I need to bring some calmness into my game as well. I often like to play quick snooker like Ronnie, Trump or Lisowski and it works great when I'm in the groove. But when I'm a bit rusty I often tend to miss easy balls purely because of carelessness and hastiness when I'm lining up the shot. The fact is that if you take your time and focus hard on getting the cue exactly where you want then you won't miss if your technique is solid.

As a beginner I found the head cam a brilliant aid. The hardest part for a beginner is working out where to deliver the cue ball for anything other than a straight pot. Techniques like the Ghost Ball, invisibly splitting the object ball into halves, quarters eighths etc. is fine but you don't often get to see exactly how much overlap is needed by the cue ball on the object ball to make the pot. The head cam gives the best view I've seen.

Snooker is an amazing game. Loads of skill involved. Professional players (and coaches) make it look so easy but trust me it isn't. I miss playing it so much. No Snooker clubs anywhere near me :(

Its unfortunate the camera was not aligned with the cue. It made all the cut angles look off a bit. Still Stark is a Master cueist! Great stuff!!
they should have tilted it back slightly to the left in post, so it was near enough horizontal... that's the beauty of filming in 4k, as you would have to enlarge it ever so slightly.

Hi Barry, at 14:45 you seem to put your bridge on the cushion but from the headcam perspective it seems your bridge is on the table, some creative editing here or am I seeing it wrong?
This is Barry’s friend answering here as I do the editing. I hold my hands up if there is a bad continuity edit between the two shots which I hadn’t noticed. A short passage of time may have been deleted whilst Barry was forming his bridge. Apologies.
If you look in between Barry's wristwatch strap and just before the angle of the shirt cuff on the left hand side you can vaguely see the line of the cushion, which with the angle of Barry's hand suggest he's not on the table but in fact bridging on the cushion.
Sean Ditch while yes you are right, he is cueing on the cushion not on the table like I said, his bridge has changed, first he’s playing the shot with a closed looped bridge over the cue but from the headcam he’s using a normal open bridge
@@ciarancooling3014 small changes happen in split seconds. Its an awkward bridge. I can't get my head around trying to bridge on a cushion..;-)) drives me mad trying to figure out where my hand should be...🤣

@@foddyfoddy Go watch Ronnie play pool in the US and get beaten by both amateurs and professionals. The two games are different, both in tactics and skills. A pool table and balls offer 9 different game types as well, as opposed to snooker being only one. Selby says it himself, so does Barry in one of his tutorials. Using terms like inferior or superior just makes you sound ignorant and disrespectful. It's like expecting Federer to make fun of table tennis.

Majid. All the balls were in an open position and all it needed was to keep reasonable control of the cue ball, the purpose of the video was to show what can be achieved by mainly using plain ball striking, i.e. no side.

The power of suggestion and focus. I watched snooker for the first time (really focused and watched) 3 nights ago. The next day, I go in to play 8 ball during my normal practice routine at around late morning. Without so much as practicing or touching a cue since watching 2 hours of snooker videos, I was unstoppable. I could not miss to save my life. The normal practice buddies asked me wth did I change from yesterday morning. I simply watched tons of snooker videos and emulated the focus that I watched. I went from being able to run out 1 rack out of three to 3 out of 4. Wish I could play snooker at some point.

exactly what im guilty of ...on any single difficult or ridiculous power shot id fancy myself against anyone i can screw and arc the ball easily ....what i cant do is plain ball gently a 116 break as easy as breathing like Barry ...im a flair player and im always trying to manipulate the cue ball and this shows there is no need

Chris. The game is very difficult and the best way to make it as easy as possible is to learn to control that little white ball, I believe that is why Ronnie is so good, his white ball positioning is better than most.
I agree about O' Sullivan, I've seen many great players play Hendry, Reardon, Steve Davis, Alex Higgins Jimmy White and others...but I regard O' Sullivan as the Greatest I've seen, it's how quick he prosesses the shot and his fluidity of play....and who can forget that a incredible 147 break at the 1997 world championships in only 5 minutes 20seconds....phenomenal

How beautiful. Lots of "teachers" can't walk the walk. This was wonderful proof this man can do both. I really learned how very close to center ball on the shots with side are. I realized that I am getting way to far off center ball on those shots. Thanks, Barry.
