Thank you for stopping me from making a mistake. Thought I would start cheap and upgrade if I actually use it. Realistically I would probably just discourage myself with frustrations.
What's interesting is that I have a gopro 9 and this v50x. The gopro sits on the shelf collecting dust and this one goes everywhere with me. It's so reliable and good looking, where I can never guess what the gopro's going to do on any given day. V50x all the way!
I might have just had a dud? I don't know but it was a bad experience. However I've had great luck with the Brave 7 which I do use. It's funny I find myself taking budget cameras and my old GoPro Hero 8 more places. I don't know why.
@@HeHasTheCamera It's fine. My understanding is that there are 3 revisions of the v50x and they get progressively worse with each one. The guess is that they're trying to maximise profits by skimping on internals.
@@dpc4548 yeah, the latest iteration of the V50X is almost unusable.... the internals are so cut back compared to the 1st release version, they absolutely destroyed this camera....
My akaso v50x will NOT take any video that isn't grainy and looks upscaled even in 2.7 k.. Idk how these youtube shots look so good and it's very frustrating, now before I finished typing i see a comment below explaining that it was a progressive bait and switch scam it seems, so not my fault i guess
From what I've seen they changed some components with the newer versions of this model, and it's nowhere near as good as it used to be. I found this out literally seconds before I was about to order it. I really want an action cam to use on the kayak, but I can't afford a GoPro, DJI, or Insta360. So far all these budget options seem to have some kind of issue, so it looks like I'm just not getting one for now.
My V50X didn't have any of those audio issues you had, and mine's also recently bought. I actually pulled my video into Shotcut just to see if I get the issue. Check your firmware, maybe it's been patched out. I did see one video saying the 2023 V50X is different from the older V50X. Where the video quality isn't as great, and they dropped the H.265. Bummer, but I don't shoot anything over 1080 and overall it's still great camera with image stabilization hard to find at this price.
Very possible the issues have been fixed by firmware. I think the best value so far that I found is the Brave 7 which I reviewed a few episodes after this. Thanks so much for watching.
I have an Akaso V50X and i like it, the mic is not a wonder but i works ok for what i need. Photos are not the best, but video quallity is fine, specially in 1080 60fps and for those audio problems just update firmware but i must say i have never ever experience any problem with that camara at all.
For users who are in this unfortunate positon it is possible to fix the issue - there are 2 issues, the video framerate is (1) Variable not constant which most video editors require, this is usually seen by the audio going out of sync, and (2) the audio is not 2 channel stereo - it is mono. Running it through Handbrake video converter may rescue the video depending on the variablilty of the frame rate.
Thank you. Yes, handbrake did work for me. Unfortunately not a pleasant experience overall. Later cameras I reviewed from them were much better, especially Brave 7. I also believe there may be a firmware update since my review that addressed some of the issues. Thanks for watching!
I just got 1 of these on sale on Amazon for $80. Haven't opened the box yet. My plan is to attach it to my helmet to be used as dash cam when riding. Was gonna turn audio recording off as it would just be the sound of rushing wind. With what I just typed in mind, would you recommend this, or is there something better that comes in less than a $100? Thanks for the review. I honestly really appreciate people reviewing older products. Companies can change hardware and QA and a product can become quite different over the years.
I think if you don't use sound it's fantastic for the price. I reviewed the SURFOLA SF530 a few videos ago and the video quality was meh. This video was quite good on the Akaso. So I'd get it without hesitation if the price and video quality were the ONLY considerations. It comes with a slew of attachments too. Also, you have to turn the stabilization on manually in the settings. It's off by default.
@BlakeBeardsley It should work pretty good and with an exterior mike, it'll sound good too. It will never be a GoPro, but if you don't want to spend 3 times more its a good value, at least that's what i've learned.
I've got s v50x. I've found that the sound if played back via camera is rubbish, but if played back on, say, a laptop, its really good. Very loud and clear. Was considering buying external mic, but not sure i actually need it.
I just had so many problems with the audio. Perhaps you've got more recent firmware or something was changed in later models? Glad you are enjoying it though and thanks so much for watching.
Same audio problem, chipmunks are weird but after formatting the SD Card, no issues and a good value for bicycle trail rides and traffic security. Car drivers behave better when they think they're being recorded - even if they're not.
Yea they told me it was likely the SD card so I tried a couple different ones. Not sure what happened but glad it worked for you. I agree the video was quite usable. Thanks for watching.
@HeHasTheCamera check the camera's "about" info, If the code begins with an A, it's the current model and it works, well mine works fine. It's no GoPro, its not as crispy and the sound is weaker but with the external microphone its perfectly good. Hardly anyone looks at my UA-cam bicycling videos so I don't see the point of investing a bunch of money. I don't really care, I use it to archive my adventures and share it with my buddies. If I was getting more than a handful of hits on a tour video here in Europe, specifically Spain, I'd buy the best one available like a GoPro 12.
Hey broski, great review btw! Just bought the Akaso v50x online. while reading other comments I think the problem is the unit that you have or during shipment maybe it was damaged. But anyways. Great review.
Hey @WhoHaz3 your comment is probably the newest one here. Could you kindly confirm or disprove claims that the quality of assembly and video went down significantly recently?
@@vaviloffx So the problem that you had with the Akaso V50x is the you know... the audio and stuff which I don't know how to explain. When I first recorded and tested the camera it all seems fine to me.
Well that would explain the discrepancy between the reviews which were outstanding and my experience! They actually sent me their new camera the Brave 7 to review and I should be receiving that soon and plan a review on that as well. I told them about my experience with the other and they claim this camera is much better. We will see. Thanks so much for watching!
Nice video, but having Floyd in your Playlist got the sub. I have been looking at the Gamsod upgraded 4K60FPS and the XTU X1 as action cameras both waterproof to 5 meters
My friend has the OLD version of this camera and swears by it, rather than AT it, lol. From research I've done it "appears" in the interest of keeping the camera below $100/£100, Akaso have changed the chip set (or similar) to an inferior item and thus the "original" and older V50X is and was a damn decent budget choice, but the 2023 onwards model is..... well, you have seen for yourself :(
Thanks for the comment and that sounds very viable. That’s great information and I’ll keep that in mind. I might try to get one of the older versions if I can play around with it. Might make an interesting video. Thanks for watching.
Thanks so much for watching. I've been happy with the Action 3. I know a lot of people have had issues with soft focus but if you look at my previous videos I've done several that featured the DJi and I've been happy. But for sure don't buy a $100 camera 😂!
I have literally bought and returned 14 cameras from Amazon in this price range.....they always look like trash indoors and are never actually 4k. My solution was to just get a flash drive for my I phone, which is 1000 x better than any of these !
2023 V50X is a crap. They changed the hardware inside using cheaper chipset and sensor. Old version was much better. Beware of Akaso products! They are too expensive for what they offer.
Is the v50 x pro good I don’t need a fully maxed out GoPro I just want decent footage to good footage in day and night with good battery life that’s it
