And it is getting much worse! If I only watched your video before I bought my V50x few days ago. I was impressed by many positive reviews of this cam here and there, mainly for its nice EIS and overall video quality in 4K. However, I can now confirm that the latest series - or generation - of V50X is not the same as V50X from 2 or 3 years ago. In other words, it is NOT a V50X at all! Akaso just took one of their best selling cams and put bunch of crap inside, and sells this sh*t under old name. The "FX" has sensor SONY IMX458, AFAIK, the new "AX" has IMX386, which, considering the number, is obviously either an older version or lower class. The new "AX" has chipset iCatchTek V35AX instead of HiSilicon or whatever. The "FX" supports both H.264 and H.265, the "AX" only H.264. The "AX" does not have gyro stabilisation in the menu, and may be missing completely, since the symbol of EIS 2.0(+Gyro) is absent on "AX" box too! The stabilisation in "AX" is mediocre, I would say ridiculous, and the video quality is not slightly, but much worse, worse than you can imagine. It is horrible! Even in bright daylight it is grainy, blurred, out of focus. I intended to give this cheap cam to kids on their bike, but it is so bad even for this.
I too want to know what's up. I got a Brave 7 LE that has what looks like high ISO noise even in sunny daylight. Akaso admitted there was a problem based on the sample images I sent comparing it to a Victure AC940, yet still refuses to do anything about it.
@@jaaxxone i cancelled an order for a 6+ a few weeks ago, because i decided to just get the 7LE because of the more convenient mic/body despite the garbage video compared to 6+. Now i'm not sure if i still want to buy either of them.

Looks like it’s been digitally over sharpened, Andre. Really not good is it. (This kind of resembles the Action and Action 3 nonsense) People would automatically assume that a new version is ‘improved’. Using their reputation and then downsizing quietly to make a better profit? Thanks for pointing it out Andre. I was actually looking at a cheap alternative to throw around and Akaso was one of them!
I was really sad to see that they went with less expensive internals but I can’t confirm it but the video quality speaks for itself. Shame because the original V50X was not a half bad camera.
The one you have in the box (in this video) has a chrome button to the left of the lens. Others I've seen have an oblong button that has "Mode" printed on it, to the left of the lens. Am I correct in saying, the one with the "Mode" button one is the older/better version ?
This has certainly thrown a spanner into my plan. Was just about to go and buy the V50X precisely because of the picture quality it offered at that price point. What a disappointing development. Now I have to start my search all over again. Thanks for making tihs video.
@@WORTHITORNOT Hey man, hope you can help me out. I'm thinking of getting the Brave 6 Plus instead but I'm fearful they might've done to the Brave 6 Plus what they did to the V50X, so I just wanted to ask whether you're aware of anything like that. Dunno where else to ask this, sorry.
The original V50X is far, far better. I bought the Campark V30 instead of the V50X some years ago. Reason was i bought the Campark V30 for a better price. As i am sure you are aware Andre, the Campark V30 is identical to the V50X (rebranded). Also could not find a Campark external mic, so i bought the Akaso V50X mic.
Night and day on these, I’ve got the old 2019 version, and for what I can see the old one is very smooth, it’s sad that they cheapened the v50x like that.
Yeah it's sad as Akaso was making a decent name for themselves in the "budget" action camera sector, now they went straight for profit and cheapened the internals.
Every budget action camera I have owned there has been somekind of issue. My akaso v50x from 2022 its a lottery whether the camera will remember the correct time so I have to manually check it each time and sometimes adjust.

I'm really liking your side by side reviews, you do a great job.
I was just deciding between the V50x and the Brave 7LE, looks like I should go with the 7LE unless you have another suggestion. It is my first action camera, need it waterproof (with or without a case) and will use it for snorkeling and motorcycle rides. Thanks...

@@WORTHITORNOT don’t blame you there. I would have as well. Wish they wouldn’t have changed the chipset. Hard to find an older version of this. Kinda feel like all recent budget cameras have been a big let down. Seems everyone uses that icatch chipset now.
Did you watch this video? I would not recommend anything from Akaso at this point as switching around internals and giving less performance is a big no no.
I just bought the new one and haven’t had any issues with audio. Strange. I will say the video quality is a bit worse than I expected, especially at night
hello friend thanks for the video I have a question . the akaso v50x of 2024 is the same as that of 2023? I ask because mine has arrived in a different box in which it specifies that it has a eis 2.0
@WORTHITORNOT if you see that there is a new one and the difference is clearly seen in the box the new version instead of putting that it is an aquatic camera puts some of Eis 2.0 and brings the gyroscope two code the logo of the battery in green and not how many more improvements

good video, i had the old v50x and it was a great camera but sadly i trashed it so bought a new 2023 from Amazon and no EIS on slow mo video but also NO 4K just 720 and 1080
It's a shame Akaso switched up the internals to cheap ones as the V50X was such a good camera back in the day, I guess Akaso knew it's popularity and wanted to take advantage and make more profit with cheaper parts.
I have an old V50X and im okay with its image quality as a backup action cam. My only issue with it is the sound quality is horrible. How did you get such good audio on yours? Mine sounds like its in a tin can 20ft away.
I have no idea if Akaso changed the internals on the V50 Elite but doing it once like on the V50X makes me think that they’ll do it to their other models too.
Thank you for this. I was trying to choose between the brave 6 plus and the v50x and now I'm not sure if I can trust the 6 plus either. 😢 It's only £90 though so might be worth the risk.

It’s enough of a difference to feel like they are scamming people, I got a V50X based off of old reviews/information. They really should have retired the V50X and called the new one V50Y (or basically any other letter so people can know)
@@WORTHITORNOT Well hey update I received it last night a few hours after getting upset and it was in fact the old version I received so I'm happy with that. This was from their official amazon store though so I wouldn't think they would still have the old stock new in 2024? I'm wondering if they did another production run or something changed. In any event they still need to make any significant changes clear to consumers.

Wow Akaso went to the toilet with this. I really don't think budget action cameras will ever be able to keep up with GoPro anymore. The FX30 looks nice but I really don't need it as I'm more of an action camera user.
Who knows but I just got word of a few new cameras coming to market this summer that I’m getting very soon that “might” hit a home run for the budget action camera sector again. This FX30 rocks !
Well that isn't good. I was wondering to other things. Did the audio/video sync problem with the v50x and campark v30 ever get fixed that you know of? and does the new v30 have the same poor video also.
First, thank you for doing these videos! I understand the audio on the new v50x doesn't work at all now (unless your a chipmunk) and not even being close to in sync (seems like something seriously wrong with that camera or how do they even sell one of them) especially with the poor video now. Are you saying that they are actually the same camera and if one was changed they both were changed and now neither one is any good? I guess if that's the case I'll send the Campark back when it arrives and start from scratch again. I did see your video but didn't realize going to the Campark wasn't going to avoid the v50x problems.@@WORTHITORNOT
The problem with Akaso they are trying to make too many cameras, if they want to follow the big boys they need to be consistent but right now its up and down all the time .
Talked to their customer service about this today. They said "The new version has been optimized and upgraded". Doesn't look optimized or upgraded to me haha
@WORTH IT OR NOT? Exactly lol...They said the new version is more convenient because you only need to turn on stabilization, whereas the old version you had to turn on stabilization and gyroscope. They wouldn't divulge what internals were replaced. Any other good budget cams with good stabilization? I'm trying to replace my Xiaomi action cam that's about 6 years old because the image stabilization kinda sucks
Honestly you can get a used Hero 7 black or Hero 8 black for under a hundred dollars on ebay that will destroy any of these budget offerings in video quality, audio and stabilization.

Wow, you did a lot of research, maybe you should do a review too.
Thanks for this video! What about v50pro, is it good for budget camera?
Yes the Akaso V50 Pro was a good camera, but I can't speak to it now as I don't know if Akaso changed the internals on all their cameras.
I too want to know what's up. I got a Brave 7 LE that has what looks like high ISO noise even in sunny daylight. Akaso admitted there was a problem based on the sample images I sent comparing it to a Victure AC940, yet still refuses to do anything about it.
That’s crazy that they admit it but won’t fix it.
@@WORTHITORNOT Stay tuned. Now they're mad because I left an AMZN review.
@@jaaxxone i cancelled an order for a 6+ a few weeks ago, because i decided to just get the 7LE because of the more convenient mic/body despite the garbage video compared to 6+. Now i'm not sure if i still want to buy either of them.
@@RdTrpBrgr I have seen a few others complaining about the ISO noise on the 7 LE, but it is by no means ubiquitous. Perhaps a bad run? Dunno, feels like a firmware problem to me, but they refuse to send me a firmware to try. If anyone happens to find a current firmware for the 7 LE, please advise!
@@RdTrpBrgr Have a look at what I'm seeing - i.imgur.com/w0QmPHi.jpg
Looks like it’s been digitally over sharpened, Andre. Really not good is it. (This kind of resembles the Action and Action 3 nonsense)
People would automatically assume that a new version is ‘improved’.
Você está usando estabilizador de video separado na Akaso V50X versão nova? A minha o vídeo fica todo tremido e a sua não!
No I'm not, I'm just using the stabilization that the camera produces although it's no where as good as the old original V50X
The one you have in the box (in this video) has a chrome button to the left of the lens. Others I've seen have an oblong button that has "Mode" printed on it, to the left of the lens. Am I correct in saying, the one with the "Mode" button one is the older/better version ?
That's just the chrome button on the waterproof case, both the 2023 version and old version have the same waterproof case.
This has certainly thrown a spanner into my plan. Was just about to go and buy the V50X precisely because of the picture quality it offered at that price point. What a disappointing development. Now I have to start my search all over again. Thanks for making tihs video.
Definitely a disappointing move on Akaso's part
@@WORTHITORNOT Hey man, hope you can help me out. I'm thinking of getting the Brave 6 Plus instead but I'm fearful they might've done to the Brave 6 Plus what they did to the V50X, so I just wanted to ask whether you're aware of anything like that. Dunno where else to ask this, sorry.
@@sarah07290 I’m not aware but “heard” that all the cameras in their lineup got cheaper internals put in.
Yup, the original V50X and the Campark V30 are both very good budget action cameras.
Hi, I was just searching for a good sub $100 action cam .This Cam was recommended. After this information, what might you suggest instead. Thanks
At this point it’s hard to recommend one as I don’t know if they’re changing internals. You can always look at a Hero 8 used that performs great.
Truth, there is always some sacrifices that have to be made when getting a budget action camera.
Thank you!
Is there a way to tell if you are buying a 2023 v50x or if it is the older version? We're getting ready to go on a roadtrip and I've just started looking into action cameras. Looking for something that is waterproof, decent stills and video with decent sound quality. Not sure which to buy between the v50x, Brave 7 LE, or one of the Brave 4's. Ugg. So confusing. I'm really liking your side by side reviews, you do a great job.
All the news ones have this issue, you can only find the old ones used on eBay and even then you're taking a gamble.
I was just deciding between the V50x and the Brave 7LE, looks like I should go with the 7LE unless you have another suggestion. It is my first action camera, need it waterproof (with or without a case) and will use it for snorkeling and motorcycle rides.
Thanks...
What’s your budget?
@WORTH IT OR NOT? say about $200 Canadian which is the price of the Brave 7LE. If you say to spend a little more I am flexible.
@@mikemills5144 The GoPro Hero 8 new is on sale for $219 US and the Hero 9 for $239 US which is far better than the 7LE !
@WORTH IT OR NOT? wow! Up here just the GoPro8 camera is $350! Any other suggestions? The Brave is about $200.
Akaso seems to have changed. I hear SJCAM is coming out with the SJ11 Pro, are you getting one to review?
I’m getting quite a few new releases of action cameras very soon. Might turn into an exciting Spring/Summer 😊
So v50x/v30 are out. Do you think the sjcam sj8pro is still the same as when you tested it?
Yes my buddy just bought one and it’s still the same
Hey guys, totally off topic: I just bought an Akaso V50 Pro, it seems to have the newest firmware. Any recommended settings for recording videos in 4K or 2,7K? Thanks in advance.
Mine is still the old original one but I just shoot in 4K@30, EIS on and everything else on auto and works really well.
@@WORTHITORNOT thank you! Appreciate your response and reviews! 🫂
thanks you just saved me 100 bucks
Too bad you can't get the 2019 version anymore. A few 2023 alternatives mentioned would have been great. I am very confused now what I supposed to get that can rival the 2019 v50x's overall quality in 2024.
It’d nice to know from which production year it has worsened🤨
As the title says 2023
glad I watch this
Thanks for watching
Dear friend, I am really sad. I've recently bought it and only now I saw your review. It is bad and it's incredible how a new version, new model, can be worst than the model before. Thank you for the time and video.
Awesome feedback, I have fews akasos and one of them completely failed and stop.working this is the 7Le and tested two waterproof cases for the v50pro and both cases leaked absolutely terrible. Akaso never done anything about this .

Maybe, you just got a really good voice for films.
I didn’t do anything to the audio, it’s straight out of camera
Hi I would like to know which is the year of the old akasov50x? Thanks
I mentioned it at 00:33 of this video
How can I tell if I am ordering the old version or the new version? Any different markings on cam?
All the ones on Amazon are the newer models
now i wanna know if the brave 6+ has similar shenanigans going on...
I wouldn't be surprised at all.
No wonder when I buy my v50x this month of February 2023 it looks off, didn't expect what I really expect from a v50x now I know old model is much better than the 2023 one, any recommendations on what's best setting to used on the new 2023 v50x? Btw when I buy mine it's a v2.0 and I have no idea how to update it since I don't have a laptop or computer to edit my video only transfer those video on my phone and that's it, hope u notice my comment and gave me a great advice on how to fully used the new v50x 2023.👍💯
Hi, I just bought this new version in early January, and I've already realized the quality of video really bad. But now I've got the best settings for this camera, I recommend not to use EIS because it will make the video result looks so bad
why is the 2023 version fake, luckily I bought the original 2022 akaso
External mic still work with the updated version(or downgraded version)?
I did not even try it, as I was totally disappointed with it and returned it immediately
@@WORTHITORNOT don’t blame you there. I would have as well. Wish they wouldn’t have changed the chipset. Hard to find an older version of this. Kinda feel like all recent budget cameras have been a big let down. Seems everyone uses that icatch chipset now.
@WORTHITORNOT Akaso just sent me this camera to review lol Already disappointed. Hope you dont mind me mentioning your video in my review.
hello what do you recommend between and akaso v50x (or elite) and akaso brave 7.
just the image quality
Did you watch this video? I would not recommend anything from Akaso at this point as switching around internals and giving less performance is a big no no.
Ghaddamit i kina regret buying mine 2023 before i found this video😢
The best Akaso v50x is the the 1 generation , after that v2, v3 v4 they are different components, quality, , most of user don't realize that.
My original one was from 2019, the new one in this video is a 2023 version, but a lot of people still say the 2024 version is also garbage.
@WORTHITORNOT if you see that there is a new one and the difference is clearly seen in the box the new version instead of putting that it is an aquatic camera puts some of Eis 2.0 and brings the gyroscope two code the logo of the battery in green and not how many more improvements
Unfortunately I bought this new version, what I'm most disappointed about is the stabilization! Is there any update to improve?
Nope, as I mentioned in this video, Akaso completely changed all the internals. Really sad
I wish to see it before I ordered such well graded product in Amazon. Pity. Now I am checking how to cancel this purchase 😢. Would Akaso Brave 4 be better? Both devices have comparable price.
The Brave 4 Elite is a decent camera but I’ve never tested the Brave 4.
good video, i had the old v50x and it was a great camera but sadly i trashed it so bought a new 2023 from Amazon and no EIS on slow mo video but also NO 4K just 720 and 1080
It's a shame Akaso switched up the internals to cheap ones as the V50X was such a good camera back in the day, I guess Akaso knew it's popularity and wanted to take advantage and make more profit with cheaper parts.

I have an old V50X and im okay with its image quality as a backup action cam. My only issue with it is the sound quality is horrible. How did you get such good audio on yours? Mine sounds like its in a tin can 20ft away.
I have seen some V50X cameras have horrible audio and some that were decent. I think it boils down to quality control.
Does the v50 elite suffer from the same issue?
I am looking for a $100 action camera
I have no idea if Akaso changed the internals on the V50 Elite but doing it once like on the V50X makes me think that they’ll do it to their other models too.

It does seem that Akaso has taken a nose dive. Don't know why. I've pretty much stand by my Gamsod 4K. If I need another one, that's what I'm getting.. Still a fan of the GoPro Hero8, just not a fan of the GIANT PRICE TAG GOPRO PUTS ON EVERYTHING ANY MORE!
Understandable
It’s enough of a difference to feel like they are scamming people, I got a V50X based off of old reviews/information. They really should have retired the V50X and called the new one V50Y (or basically any other letter so people can know)
Yup, changing the internals was their downfall for the sake of profit.

It "might" just be a bad unit I got, but a lot of viewers were telling me they purchased one and it was terrible, so I went out and bought one to test, I can confirm it's terrible.

I'm not sure but if they did it to the V50X, they "might" have done it to the other line of cameras as well, I hope not.
I got a V50 Pro back in 2021 when they're trying to get rid of old stock. For some reason, there's conflicting reviews with it having a Novatech 96680 or iCatch V50. So I took it apart and saw it had an iCatch V50M (tech4all's review was right). I kinda doubt the V50 Pro would drastically change. It's in products with Hisilicon where there's changes internally. I remember that the 70mai a500s dashcam is inferior to the older 70mai a500 because of it. It's an awful practice when manufacturers cut corners.

Maybe I am just confused but does it mean when I will buy v50x today it will have bad quality or 2023 version is separate product? 😅
I also appreciate your help.

First, thank you for doing these videos! I understand the audio on the new v50x doesn't work at all now (unless your a chipmunk) and not even being close to in sync (seems like something seriously wrong with that camera or how do they even sell one of them) especially with the poor video now. Haha, yeah, I think they optimized in the wrong direction lol
@WORTH IT OR NOT? Exactly lol...They said the new version is more convenient because you only need to turn on stabilization, whereas the old version you had to turn on stabilization and gyroscope. They wouldn't divulge what internals were replaced.

Honestly you can get a used Hero 7 black or Hero 8 black for under a hundred dollars on ebay that will destroy any of these budget offerings in video quality, audio and stabilization.
Wow that's a money grab by Akaso, nothing more. In China we keep seeing articles about record profit margins by Apple and Tesla, I guess they're getting greedy at Akaso 😅
I don't know if Akaso used the popularity of the V50X's sales and went with cheaper internals to increase profits but it sure seems that way. Really a shame
Is there any way to find the older version on websites like Amazon?
Not on Amazon, maybe a used one on eBay
