The camera actually can’t do 60frames at 4k it can only do true 4k 30 as the camera upscales when in 4k 60 from 1080p
I think you were a little unfair on the Surfola. Once used to the operation it could be a good beginner camera. At 1/8th of the price of the Action 3 it is not that bad. Nicely produced footage though. I have one on the way which comes with a wireless microphone that may improve the audio.
What's your 'review' of the Surfola? I see the price has gone down to $70 with an Amazon discount voucher. If you see my comment here, I do not think paying "8 times the price" is really worth it as you do not get anywhere near 8 times the quality.
I don’t hate it. Also, at that point, I hadn’t tried others and it does get far worse. I really don’t like the oversaturation of color and the reds are just too much. I also thought the forage was just too noisy. If I had one I’d go Akaso Brave series and I’ve done a few reviews on those and the damn GoPro Hero 8 still ends up on my hands a lot. I don't think it's an unfair review at all, I bought a knockoff 4k30 cam five years ago that was pretty good, it actually records this in sharp 4k, this Surfola, which I got a week ago, is just upscaled garbage. I don't even know if it's native 720
@@MagnusRoe I found recording at 4k 60fps diminished the video quality. I thought the 4k 30fps was optimum. It definitely is not up to market leaders and I suppose it's reflected in the price.

I've had bad luck with a lot of budget cameras. The last one review I did of AKASO was a real nightmare but they sent me their best one to try so I will have another review coming. I like to flip the narrative on it's head and start with the cheaper camera and ask - Is is really worth paying 5-6-7-8 times the price for the 'advantages' of an expensive one? (such as GoPro) AND the answer is always "No"!
In short the 'top range' cameras are VASTLY OVER-PRICED. If only all the rich vloggers stopped buying them then they would have to bring the price down to a reasonable amount. No 'Gopro' style action camera is worth more than 200$ - (there is literally nothing on the market without downsides - (think GoPro in poor lighting, poor battery life etc.) The difference in quality between a good cheap camera and a top of the range one really isn't big enough to justify such ridiculous price differences. For $400+ I would expect everything to be PERFECT!
I agree with some of this. For me, the differentiator is whether or not I’m going to use the content for myself or for UA-cam. I intentionally don’t try to put $400 action cameras up against $150 action cameras on video quality alone, there’s going to be such a noticeable difference that I can’t really make the case. However, for the average user, that may be a different story. I’m reviewing a lot more budget action in the future. The problem with lower priced action cameras has been that they vary so widely in quality. Some are quite good and some are just terrible. At $400 there is a certain level of consistency.

Deriding a company or person because you don't like its name is not OK.
I would not trust the internal microphone of any camera to record audio beyond ambient. Ambient would serve mostly to sync. on post, or perhaps notes to use in voiceover.
