The Best Budget Action Camera Of 2023!
Переглядів 44 тис.Рік тому
The best budget action camera of 2023 isn't a budget action camera at all. It isn't one of those #amazonfinds. Even though most peole are looking at the #akaso or other budget offerings, the best cameria is actually a #gopro. While the #hero10 and #hero11black are still quite pricey, the Hero 8 is a fantastic deal. It is the best action camera under $200!

Mountain Bike Carbon Seatpost / Whiskey No. 7 Review!
I am lost with all these versions, I am after a decent action camera for scuba diving. The only issues is I only dive 4 times a year. This seems to be a decent spec for the money, I just need to convince the wife haha. Thanks for the review.
So, I have the DJI Action3 in my cart ready to purchase (because of your great reviews) and on last minute read through the small print, I see that the Mimo App is not available in the Play Store and needs to be downloaded directly from their website. Then I come to find out that it's not compatible with my Pixel 7 Pro, which I see you are also using in this video. I'm I missing something here, or do you just not use the app? This seems like a huge disadvantage to me though there is very little information to be found online about this issue. This will be my first action camera, so I am wondering do I really need the app? Thanks!
This was great, thank you!
I have literally bought and returned 14 cameras from Amazon in this price range.....they always look like trash indoors and are never actually 4k. My solution was to just get a flash drive for my I phone, which is 1000 x better than any of these !
Yea no question but there are certain used cases for me that just make a phone impossible. Thanks so much for watching.
Great review,big help
Thanks so much for watching!
You said optical image stabilization. I only see electronic stabilization on the website. What am I missing?
Now it’s been a while but I BELIVE it had 6 axis motion sensor / stabilization but don’t hold me to it 😂.
Same audio problem, chipmunks are weird but after formatting the SD Card, no issues and a good value for bicycle trail rides and traffic security. Car drivers behave better when they think they're being recorded - even if they're not.
Yea they told me it was likely the SD card so I tried a couple different ones. Not sure what happened but glad it worked for you. I agree the video was quite usable. Thanks for watching.
@HeHasTheCamera check the camera's "about" info, If the code begins with an A, it's the current model and it works, well mine works fine. It's no GoPro, its not as crispy and the sound is weaker but with the external microphone its perfectly good. Hardly anyone looks at my UA-cam bicycling videos so I don't see the point of investing a bunch of money. I don't really care, I use it to archive my adventures and share it with my buddies. If I was getting more than a handful of hits on a tour video here in Europe, specifically Spain, I'd buy the best one available like a GoPro 12.
Another fine review video: well-paced, comprehensive but succinct and the photography is nicely composed. It probably doesn't hurt that most of the settings are familiar (the 91/15 interchange reminds me how little I miss that daily commute). I'm just about sold on this camera. One question, though: How does the image stabilization hold up when the camera is mounted on a bicycle, and how does that compare to something like the GoPro? Thanks. liked and subscribed
Bicycle or mountain bike? If you’re talking about a road bike, you’re not going to notice any difference whatsoever. I absolutely love this camera and both the Action 3 and Action 4 have been by go to device. However, I will say when mountain biking I take the GoPro and I do feel the stabilization is a bit better in really rough terrain. However the DJI is right there. Thanks for watching!
@@HeHasTheCamera Thanks for your response. From everything I've read and seen, it does appear that this camera is technically the best option among currently available action cameras. The fly in the ointment for me is, if I understand correctly, the absolute requirement to install the DJI app on a compatible cellphone. It is difficult to see a rational reason for that aside from DJI's self-interest; certainly not that of the consumer. (I believe GoPro has a similar requirement?) Also, to flirt with paranoia, DJI is among the targets in a proposed US ban on Chinese devices (specifically: their line of drones), the DJI app was removed from the Google Play store presumably for failure to comply with the TOS, and the broad concerns related to security when installing un-vetted apps from the PRC. I'm flipping mental coins regarding any purchase.

I have the Brave 8 LTE and the audio is not as clear. Talking behind the camera sounds muffled, but talking in the front is better. I’m thinking of getting the Brave 8, which cost a bit more than the LTE. Excellent review.
I will tell you that audio behind the camera is still worse. Yes you are correct. However I thought it was for sure usable. In my use case scenario, I’m concerned much more with the front facing audio.
It's only 50 bucks cheaper than the Hero 12 here, same on the used market (idk why they ask the same as stores ask for new). Might as well get the 12 then...
Yes agreed
I realize you made this video over a year ago, but do you remember the final video settings you were most happy with, especially for use on bike rides in the Florida sun?
I honestly don’t. Sorry.
@@HeHasTheCamera No worries, thank you for replying.
Think I'll try this one. Should be good enough for my mountainbike, will ne on asphalt most of the time. What5the battery life like?
Huh, no one mentions that you can not access the usb C socket when the camera is in its frame. I bought one for riding my motorcycle, expecting to be able to power it permanently or use the external microphone to avoid wind noise....no chance as you can't open the access flap when it's in the frame. A pretty poor design fault as there is an access hole in the right place....it just isn't quite wide enough. Having contacted Akaso, they replied and said I'm right and to remove it from the frame if I needed access to the usb C.....well duh.
Interesting. I suppose in most of my Used cases I never have a need for constant but your point is very well taken. It’s obviously easily corrected flaw..
Nope
Why do you slow the footage down, I want to see 'action' at high speed? why don't you go down a bumpy hill on a mountain bike, that would be a better test. I still don't know if this is what I need. I've already bought a cheap action camera and its frame rate is slow watching it back even though its supposed to be 60hz. I want to upgrade but unless I fork out for the most expensive I don't know what options there are.
Because everyone else does that. Literally hundreds of channels with a guy on a mountain bike shooting down a hill. I approach action cameras as a great “all around” alternative to a phone for everyone. Whether it’s a family vacation or a vlogger. My recommendation would be to find a used GoPro Hero 8. I STILL end up using it all the time.
I have an AKASO Brave 7 LE which is pretty good. I paid about $112.
Price of oa4 in usa 🇺🇸 and from india 🇮🇳 ❤
Nice review. I especially liked how you were able to show that on-camera mics are never even close to good enough. The audio is the most important part of any video and an off-camera mic is always required. This is true in all environments, but especially so outdoors. If you get yourself a nice 32bit mini recorder with lavalier microphone taped under your shirt your audio quality will go through the roof. All you need to do is sync the audio in post, which is a simple matter if you use the on-camera mic as a sync source. All the best.
I’ve used the Rode “VideoMic” NGT with the media mod on the GoPro’s and had really good luck with that.
Nice camera for outdoor vlog
Yes. My only issue is overexposure in some situations and white balance seems to be off at times. But it’s a good camera.
akaso brave 8 lite review please
Good idea I’ll take a look
The problem with Akaso is that they increased the price compared to the Brave 7, Which means they are now competing with an used Action 3, however they are closer to the original Osmo Action in terms of quality and features, but an used Action 1 can be had for 100 dollars so the Brave 8 is not that much of a good deal anymore. That and the fact that they do not let you forget they are a Chinese company by releasing a comical number of models, most of which are a step back from previous cameras
Very good observations and yes if I had to choose between the Action 3 and the Brave 8 for the same price I’d take the Action 3 all day. Thanks for watching!
Not even close
I would take the OG DJI Ozmo even if I had to pay full price for it.
Excellent take on the Brave 8 without any wishy washy over coating. Honest and direct with the goods to prove it. 👍🏻
Thanks so much for watching!
If you were to create e-bike riding videos, would you recommend this camera?
Yes. But also the older GoPro models can be found for less now. Even back to the Hero 8 you can get great footage and nobody has better stabilization than GoPro.
Is the Insta360 x4 on your list of future reviews? Thanks. Great channel!
Yes. A couple people have mentioned that and I have sort of overlooked them. I will try to do one soon.
Is use completely without smartphone app possible?
No really. If you want the super smooth you have to upload the app and process it and then download it. Normal stabilization is not up to par.
@@HeHasTheCamera Thanks!
Nice review. Do you need to use/install a smartphone app to use the camera? This includes "registration" upon first use. Thanks!
Would a 35' Class A fit in the campground?
I think so, and I believe 35 is the max length they allow. If you have a tow vehicle there would be nowhere to put it though as there is no additional parking.
@@HeHasTheCamera Thank you for the info!
Hi, Can you do a compare between AKASO Brave 8 and DJI ? Which one do you recommend?
Yes actually that’s a great idea.
Which website is the right one. There seems to be two of them.
Sorry just saw this. Do you mean for Akaso? I’ve always used akasotech.com but you can get it on Amazon easier.
what amount of EV you used here?
Everything in the video was on “Auto.” Beginning to end. With GoPro I put EV down a little. Action 3 / 4 all auto all the time.
I got the s23u because I was tired of slow shit phones I want an action camera thats decent so I can record videos on my euc and also have footage in the event of a crash. Yesterday a minivan pulled infront of me with no warning as I was going 55kmh I almost tool a mirror off with my shoulder with how close I was even after swerving and slowing down.
Wow! Did you get it on video?
@@HeHasTheCamera nope I wish.
First review and I'm a subscriber
Sorry I just saw this!! Thank you for watching.
4:00 panning looked very weird and distorted there. Some of the footage here didn't convince me.
The Brave 8 is improved quite a bit. I’ve got a video on that one too. Thanks for watching !
I like to flip the narrative on it's head and start with the cheaper camera and ask - Is is really worth paying 5-6-7-8 times the price for the 'advantages' of an expensive one? (such as GoPro) AND the answer is always "No"! In short the 'top range' cameras are VASTLY OVER-PRICED. If only all the rich vloggers stopped buying them then they would have to bring the price down to a reasonable amount. No 'Gopro' style action camera is worth more than 200$ - (there is literally nothing on the market without downsides - (think GoPro in poor lighting, poor battery life etc.) The difference in quality between a good cheap camera and a top of the range one really isn't big enough to justify such ridiculous price differences. For $400+ I would expect everything to be PERFECT!
I agree with some of this. For me, the differentiator is whether or not I’m going to use the content for myself or for UA-cam. I intentionally don’t try to put $400 action cameras up against $150 action cameras on video quality alone, there’s going to be such a noticeable difference that I can’t really make the case. However, for the average user, that may be a different story. I’m reviewing a lot more budget action in the future. The problem with lower priced action cameras has been that they vary so widely in quality. Some are quite good and some are just terrible. At $400 there is a certain level of consistency.
The bad side of the camera is the fact that it has no provision for speakers and for this reason, the camera picks everything damn sound or noise into the video. I just got Action 4 and this is why I am putting it away in my museum soon.
I haven’t really experienced that problem but I will try to monitor that. In the video, I did a lot of shooting at the beach where there was noise from the water and people around and it seemed to do well. Thank you so much for the comment and for watching.
My friend has the OLD version of this camera and swears by it, rather than AT it, lol. From research I've done it "appears" in the interest of keeping the camera below $100/£100, Akaso have changed the chip set (or similar) to an inferior item and thus the "original" and older V50X is and was a damn decent budget choice, but the 2023 onwards model is..... well, you have seen for yourself :(
Thanks for the comment and that sounds very viable. That’s great information and I’ll keep that in mind. I might try to get one of the older versions if I can play around with it. Might make an interesting video. Thanks for watching.
Looking forward to them!
Thanks so much for watching!
Thank you for the videos. Your perspective is the one I was looking for when looking for reviews. Pleaae keep the channel going for those of us who are looking into getting a new camera but can't sit through dozens of videos who just take what the manufacturer say and forget to mention the camera's drawbacks
Thanks for the comment and it is very much appreciated!
I hope it works out for you. Your videography is really good as well as your personality, so I have some high hopes for you! I still haven't bought a budget action camera, but thanks to you I have some options. ATB!
That means a lot! Thanks so much for being part of it.
Don’t have to lean way over for them to bite, but you’d be cooler if you did 😂 jk great video man
What about the brave 7 LE?
i love this camera
Thanks for watching!
3:27 was this particular shot made with a chest mount?
Yes. The official GoPro “chesty.” Actually all mountain biking footage in any of my videos uses that same mount. Thanks for watching.
@@HeHasTheCamera I wonder how the stabilization would look if the camera were mounted on, say, a bike's stem or handlebar, since the human body can also serve as an image stabilizer and therefore could be somewhat misleading regarding the camera's actual stabilizing capabilities.
@ramunasLT Fair enough, for me a chest mount or a helmet mount is preferable, but that’s a good suggestion and perhaps I will do a video specifically, on the difference! That’s a good idea.
I think that the DJI Action 1 is more dependable/reliable then the Gopro Hero 8!
Thanks for watching !
❤
Thanks for watching!!
I'm not even in the market for an action camera anymore but I do love your review style
I very much appreciate you returning and watching!
Action 4 🏆 ! Loved your video!
Thanks so much for watching! I appreciate the comment.
Great video! Makes me wis I had pulled the trigger on this
Thanks so much for watching. Not sure on pricing on the Action 3 but if it’s noticeably cheaper, that might be the way to go, it’s still really good.
@@HeHasTheCamera I’m perusing their site now. I have the Pocket 4 and haven’t really used it for what I thought I would as much. The ruggedness and straight out of box capabilities on the A3 & A4 are appealing. Great colors and picture
