That was definitely more true for the 2013 to say 17 trucks but in 2018 they seemed to have stepped away from providing some things on the trucks for example if you don't have the factory hood light in 2018 you likely won't have the wire harness ready to be plugged in like earlier models or same with fog lights some trucks early on were pre-wired for them but that one was less likely. I wish ram would of stuck with that mindset of allowing users to add factory options with ease but the addition of the security gateway module in 2018 and up trucks changed a lot of that to be dealer only Installs unless you get a bypass for that module which is also required to actually make changes to the trucks in 2018 and up with alfaobd
Thank you! I have a 2015 Ram 1500 and needed your video to learn how to cut out the plastic "blocking" to insert a filter and put on the cover. Thanks again! 🇺🇲
I used a hot box cutter blade in my milwaukee blade handle and it cuts very smooth and quick. Just have to heat it up 4 or 5 times with a lighter and it does really well. About 10 minutes or so.
I think it became standard factory in 2017. I had a 17 and now have a 19 classic and they both had it stock. I will say that the Fram Fresh Breeze with Arm & Hammer filter will take out smells you may have lingering. It has become my favorite cabin air filter and I put it in every vehicle I replace one in. Keep up the great work John, glad to see you not pausing on filming during your house search.
Ditto on the Fram filter. I've used that one in mine ever since I did the mod. I put up a Amazon link to that one, but I guess John deleted it since he didn't want folks not using his sponsored link to that kit. If anyone is looking for it, just search Amazon for Fram CF11671.
Now I know what I'm doing today haha!! I made a small blade type tip for my soldering iron that I use for this type of stuff and plastic welding... makes the work easy and no mess... Love these cheap mod videos!
Great vid. One of the few that realize not all 2009-2018 Rams have a cabin filter. Thank you! It’s disgraceful that they didn’t include this at the factory. No doubt, to save a buck or two.
Just did this today and used this video as my main guide (I also looked up some other videos for removing the carpet panel and motor fan). Everything is working great! Using a heated box cutter blade is the way to go. I would definetely recommend removing the motor fan before cutting if you think you might make a mess. I had some debris fall out that would have went into the fan if I hadn't removed it.
Yeah, def do this mod. My 2013 didnt' have this and by the time I bought it and put it in, the heater core was busted. Save your heater core with this filter kit my dudes.
I was wondering how or if there was a cabin filter at all, but now I know you gotta get that kit with the door. I am mechanically inclined and usually do everything myself to all my cars and Trucks. Seems pretty easy to do Thanks Man great video !!
YES!!!! finally a mod that I did awhile ago 😁😁😁😁 that you haven't done, lol. Wife is still mad at me but she is coming around to how the truck is looking, just waiting on a couple of items to arrive...Keep up the content and waiting for the next mod....
That's super weird yours didn't have one my 17 sport had one from the factory. Super excited for all the mods I've done from watching your videos from performance to better lighting everything is coming out awesome. One thing I still want to do is headers but that i am touching in case I snaps a bolt.
That’s a no brainer upgrade the only problem is I need to get a newer truck to be able to do that to it my 01 is a dinosaur in comparison to the newer one you have keep the awesome content coming John and I’ll see you tomorrow for the next great idea you come up with have a great night !!!!
Ditch the razor knife and the dermal tool! This plastic is thick and tough!!! Instead get a solder gun with a cutting or knife blade makes the removal much easier! you can "plunge cut" and then slice your way to happiness with ease and saving yourself many Band-Aid's, blood loss, profanity, nerves, time! Helps to remove BOTH upper and lower glove boxes you will need a 7 mm socket and long extension (1/4" drive) there are 5, 7mm screws involved total, 4 upper, for the hinge, 1 in rear/behind for lower, boxes and held in by clips, pull out for removal !
Don't you need to pull that big white piece that directs the air to the filter. I think you left it up. Mine was up but I pulled it down. If that not right?
Just did this mod....Ram sure has its quirks, why this isnt already done from the factory like every other vehicle on the road ! Any how to repeat a favorite saying I remember hearing in the Christmas movie, there is a tapestry of obscenities' woven above my 3500 that will linger for months to come. That really sucked.
Funny story. I was helping a neighbor change his cabin air filter on his honda Pilot. You have to cut out a brace along with removing a bunch of crap out of the way. I said this is stupid. Why would you design a filter system that you can't get out. Well I thought maybe this was a Honda thing until I went to change mine in the ram. When I learned you have to put that panel out and get that cover. Got pissed off and put the glove box back on and haven't touched it since. lol
You are just extremely unlucky with the cabin air filter option as some of the trucks do come with a cabin air filter. My 2018 1500 SLT model ram came with the cabin air filter which might mean after 2017 it became more of a standard option but I also reccomend upgrading to a K&N cabin air filter as they are cleanable so you don't have to waste money on a new one for years same with engine air filter if you just stick with the stock air box setup highly suggest the drop in filter from K&N that is cleanable
Might want to write these mods down in the trucks manual so the next guy that buys your truck knows what you did.. Well I guess he can fire up your UA-cam videos...LOL Cheers Thumbs up..
Thank u had no idea why I couldn’t get the cartridge out that didn’t exist like the other videos what a joke dodge is for this non sense just put it in to start

Did it slow down the air flow very much
Is this for a 2016 ram 1500 lone star hemi ?
I really like how ram has their truck plumbed and wired for everything. If your truck doesn't have it you can buy and install yourself
My 2010 has the spot for the filter also
Thank you! I have a 2015 Ram 1500 and needed your video to learn how to cut out the plastic "blocking" to insert a filter and put on the cover.
Thanks again! 🇺🇲

2018 Ram Night and it was factory. If you read some of the reviews some of the aftermarket filters are too thick and choke out the fan
Purolator has a febreeze filter that's pretty nice.
Just did my 2012 1500 … I always come to your channel when I have a situation… thanx
Now I know what I'm doing today haha!! I made a small blade type tip for my soldering iron that I use for this type of stuff and plastic welding... makes the work easy and no mess... Love these cheap mod videos!
Thanks man! Yeah that would make it easier for sure!
Great vid. One of the few that realize not all 2009-2018 Rams have a cabin filter. Thank you!
It’s disgraceful that they didn’t include this at the factory. No doubt, to save a buck or two.
I know right 😂
Heat the blade and it will make it easier to cut
This is a particularly good DIY vid: everything is visible, clear and thorough explanation. Thanks!
Thank you 🙏 Dow showing how to close the tabs , I tried so hard but I couldn’t get it to lock , and your videos explain thanks 😊

Watched a bunch of these videos this was the best one thank you
Thanks for the feedback 💪
Yeah, def do this mod. My 2013 didnt' have this and by the time I bought it and put it in, the heater core was busted. Save your heater core with this filter kit my dudes.
Yeah it’s always good to have! 💪
Cool.
Great tutorial
Thank you. I painted my cover white to make tabs easier to see at next change.
Def gonna do this, I really thought they came with the filter. Nice mod!!
My 17 Express came with it installed, thank goodness
I was wondering how or if there was a cabin filter at all, but now I know you gotta get that kit with the door. I am mechanically inclined and usually do everything myself to all my cars and Trucks. Seems pretty easy to do Thanks Man great video !!
Thanks for the video man, did this on my 2015 1500 and had no filter from factory! Had to cut the cover too
YES!!!! finally a mod that I did awhile ago 😁😁😁😁 that you haven't done, lol. Wife is still mad at me but she is coming around to how the truck is looking, just waiting on a couple of items to arrive...Keep up the content and waiting for the next mod....
Haha you won’t be able to resist the one tomorrow! Good thing it’s only a $25 mod tmw 🤣
Heck yeah!! I did this and then replaced my air filter with a K&N cabin air filter and it flows more air than the paper filters 🦾🦾🦾
As always, you have the best relatable content to work on my Ram on my own. Thank you!
That's super weird yours didn't have one my 17 sport had one from the factory. Super excited for all the mods I've done from watching your videos from performance to better lighting everything is coming out awesome. Man I'm spending so much money lately cuz of you. Lol thanks
Hey I’m just here to help 😁
I just did this mod on ma 2014 ram 1500 and it was pretty easy thanks to your video.
Thanks for showing us how to secure the cover. Mine was easily coming off too.
Very well done, i had no idea of the mod thanks sir..
Excellent video.
An exacto blade on a soldering iron, would make the job much easier.
I need to buy a 4th gen ram so I can install all these great mods. Good work!
It’s pretty fun with all the stuff available for these!
Loving these small video mods, just ordered the same filter!!
Thanks I appreciate it!
Awesome J《☆》👍✔wtf FCA? I wonder if my 98 Dakota has a filter ? If it does, it's probably vaporized by now lol🖖🤓🏈
Thank you for showing us how to install the cabin filter and the door I’ll do mine it didn’t come on my 2016 Ram Eco diesel
I recommend a little torch to keep reheating your razor knife blade while cutting!
It's strange that some have this from the factory and some don't. My '17 had the filter and door from day one.
Mine too.
That’s a no brainer upgrade the only problem is I need to get a newer truck to be able to do that to it my 01 is a dinosaur in comparison to the newer one you have keep the awesome content coming John and I’ll see you tomorrow for the next great idea you come up with have a great night !!!!
Thanks Henry!💪
Thank you I'm going to put one in my 2004 ram1500 😊
Y donde lo compraste, please.
Cool mod.. did the exact same thing on my ‘13 GMC Sierra
Mine came with that already I have a 2016 sport eitger the previous owner did it for me or I’m not sure lol
Thank you for your video
I am about to do the same on mine
extremely helpful
Did this to my truck 3 months ago. I like to throw a air freshener in to 🤷🏽♂️
The white flexible duct is it suppose to be attached above the filter or loose? Mine is opening and closing freely
My '16 Sport came with the door from factory but had no filter installed.
love the mods, think you would ever do a mod on the Infotainment like putting in a tesla screen or stinger heigh10

I got a 2017 and mine came with it already wonder why they wouldn’t do it from factory for older models
Wow, I thought I had to do the mod because my 2009 1500 was the first year of the 4th Gen. I thought for sure they'd added them later on.
Didn't have one in my 2013. Might be like 2014 or after.
2014 didn’t either I believe
It's hit or miss on the earlier models prior to 2018
I'm surprised a Laramie didn't have it. My `17 Big Horn came with it.
My '17 Express already had it. Maybe that was the year they started installing them from factory🤔
Does this apply to the 3rd gen. Rams? If it does, what is the part number?
Just got my 2020 Ram. So there is no in cabin air filter before doing this mod or are you adding a second ICA filter?? Thanks for the vid!
I wonder if the hot tip of a soldering iron would cut through it like butter.
I did mine. I have a humming coming from the HVAC system now when the fan is running on the high setting. Would you happen to know what that is?
Gonna add this just because!
So does the door fit the inside of the cutout?
I love how the dealership wants at least $50 to replace the filter too...
Thank you.
My 2017 big horn came stock with the cabin filter
Does this also work on 2nd gen rams?
Don't you need to pull that big white piece that directs the air to the filter. I think you left it up. Mine was up but I pulled it down. If that not right?
Good job thanks bud
💪💪💪
Stupid question, where does it get air from before this mod? Is there a vent or vacuum in there?
Just did this mod....Ram sure has its quirks, why this isnt already done from the factory like every other vehicle on the road ! Any how to repeat
a favorite saying I remember hearing in the Christmas movie, there is a tapestry of obscenities' woven above my 3500 that will linger for months to come. That really sucked.
Have same issue on my 2015 ram 2500 right now.
I found the easiest way to cut through plastic is to heat up the razor blade with a torch and cuts it like butter
Another awesome video, thank you John!!!
Sweet!! I'm ordering one A.s.a.p
Heck yeah! Let us know how it goes! 💪
@@BoostedMotorsports sure will,Amazon says it will be here by Saturday
Why isn’t it on the 4th? Doesn’t every vehicle come with some sort of cabin filter?
That’s what I was thinking. No filter in my truck?
Most of them don’t
Funny story. I was helping a neighbor change his cabin air filter on his honda Pilot. You have to cut out a brace along with removing a bunch of crap out of the way. I said this is stupid. Why would you design a filter system that you can't get out. Well I thought maybe this was a Honda thing until I went to change mine in the ram. When I learned you have to put that panel out and get that cover. Got pissed off and put the glove box back on and haven't touched it since. lol
Lol this took me probably 15min!
Interesting!
what filter is this for?? whats the point
This looks familiar. Still great vid
First time for me on this one 😁
The must have updated this because my 17 has the cabin filter and door
Yeah apparently the newer ones come with it. My 16 Laramie didn’t 🤷♂️
2014 limited has it
It's WAY easier to have the heat on full jam with recirculation on. That plastic stands a zero chance with a utility knife.
So I replaced mine and it didn’t even have a factory filter in it 🙄 wtf lol
This mod exist for SRT10 Ram?
I don't think the 3rd Gens were setup for it. I saw a mod video ages ago where they added a cabin filter to one and it was a pretty involved process.
Use a soldering iron
You are just extremely unlucky with the cabin air filter option as some of the trucks do come with a cabin air filter. My 2018 1500 SLT model ram came with the cabin air filter which might mean after 2017 it became more of a standard option but I also reccomend upgrading to a K&N cabin air filter as they are cleanable so you don't have to waste money on a new one for years same with engine air filter if you just stick with the stock air box setup highly suggest the drop in filter from K&N that is cleanable
Hmmm, I though GM was the only brand that cheap'd out and didn't include the cabin air filter.
Might want to write these mods down in the trucks manual so the next guy that buys your truck knows what you did..
Well I guess he can fire up your UA-cam videos...LOL
Cheers Thumbs up..
Hahah 😂
Liked.
Thank u had no idea why I couldn’t get the cartridge out that didn’t exist like the other videos what a joke dodge is for this non sense just put it in to start
You forgot to tell everyone to pull the top vent down over the box. You can see in your video it's up and shouldn't be.
Wait so what the fuck no stock filter? So dump
This is an absolute nightmare, you can’t even maneuver your body to move down there to even try cutting this shit out. This should be a lawsuit
Dude....didn't you already make these videos before with another Ram?
First time I’ve done this mod 🤷♂️
