Yes, Direct Drive is more simple but.
There are three very important reasons:
-Increase the height position of the engine for cooling, Direct drive is not possible.
-In cases of shock or accident in the propeller, not submit such a force on the engine and the engine shaft destroying it.
-Ability to change and have different potential reduction of propellers (diameter and pitch).

I'm a very likely customer I hope you get these selling soon, I'm SO DONE with pain in the ass, over complicated, troubleshooting takes forever, so many parts to go wrong gas engines

You're welcome. I used these batteries on big size rc helicopters. They are way safer, and can take such a load of abuse and wear compared to lipos ...
Very interesting to see that someone also flies with lifepo4 batteries which are much safer than lipos ... Keep up the good work !

Is it possible to hook a permanat magnet generator & charge controller to the belt drive and charge the batteries in flight
No, the motor would have to work extra hard to drive the generator, so in the end, the flight time would be lower since nothing is 100% efficient (almost nothing)
This would kinda work if u used the airspeed to spin the prop and not the motor, but the amount of energy that you would gain is not worth the extra resistance since we rarely use our motors at idle.
So in summary, it's not worth it
