Google is quietly making Android OS tailored specifically for it's hardware, I'm hooked though. Google Assistant is the only assistant worth while and when I think it couldn't get much better they make leaps and bounds with the Assistant.
Definitely not. At the very least, 2 years if you're a heavy user like me, or probably 3-4 years if you're a light user. I'm upgrading to the 4xl when it releases but seriously, my 2XL has a huge amount of life left in it, it's insane. Whereas my Nexus 6P would die at 60% come 2 years on. My Pixel 2XL went from reaching like 20% by the end of the day to now, almost dead after my longest day as a Student once I come home. That's like, taking it off charge at 6:30 am, it dies by 8pm, which for a 2 year old phone with no performance issues is incredible.
@@Rayan_Iolanthe Still have my Pixel 2XL from work and besides some battery draining issues that pop up, but after a day or two clears up, the phone still performs really great. THE best phone I ever owned and still use daily.
I tested out the speakers from Pixel 2 and Pixel 4. With Pixel 4, you don't have dual, front facing speakers anymore, but the stereo/surround effect seemed to be more prominent and better. Maybe we don't need front facing speakers.
I thoroughly enjoy my pixel 3. It runs as smooth as it did out of the box. The only issue I have is the battery life. I am constantly having to carry my charger with me, which doesn't bother me enough to switch to a different phone because it charges really fast and I have access to an outlet at work. It blows my mind that they upgraded the hardware and have all of these new features without upgrading the battery. For this reason, I am happily staying with my pixel 3.
U can increase ur battery life, by switching off all google location services in setting - location - advanced and giving off to all location service as well as turning off wifi and Bluetooth scanning.
I use Galaxy buds and have a smart watch, so I keep my Bluetooth on always. I also use wifi instead of data when I don't need to use data. The battery life isn't dreadful, but it is leaps behind the newest apple phones and Galaxy phones. Turning these modes off takes away from the intended phone experience, so it's a trade off. I've used Google, Samsung, and apple phones and the pixel is definitely on the lower end when it comes to battery.

Jon, the appropriate procedure of comparison should be between the best and latest models of *different* companies. You constantly compare phones with their previous generation. Don't get me wrong, it's important to do that, but I would want to know which of the leading flagship competitors should I root for. I'll probably never afford to buy them, but I love seeing how far handheld devices can go. With these amazing video quality and B-rolling I would love to see you slightly update your methods of comparison, that's all, everything else, and I mean everything, is far better than any other UA-cam channel. Even the Verge doesn't match up, and I'm certain they have a bigger budget than you.
Sorry if this annoys you, but I couldn't help but find that to be a fault. If you're reading this, just don't bother about it, it's not that relevant. I've never typed so much on a youtube comment.
I have been wanting to switch to a pixel phone but I cannot justify the price and the specs. I was really hyped for the pixel 4 considering I am still using a galaxy s7 but when looking at the specs, the pixel 3 has a larger battery than the pixel 4 and the galaxy s7 has a larger battery than both. I charge my phone to 100% before going to work and my phone dies before I get home. The pixel 4 has an even smaller battery so that will definitely not last a whole day.

The last Google phone I bought was the then premium Nexus 5 for $330 when it came out (Still works fine today) so when Google keeps bringing out phones with less features which are more than double the cost, one has to question if they are making the right choice, especially when competitors offer a whole lot more often for much less.
I love the design, the lack of the notch, that high contrast flat white with the black and matte finish.. 90hz display. However they dropped the ball hard by going with telefoto over ultra wide and eliminating the unlimited storage for Google photos. Google phones.. Forever two steps forward and 3 steps back. Also should have just stuck with their rear mounted fingerprint sensor.
One thing to consider too is that a lot of the software updates are coming to the Pixel 3/3a. That’s one area where Apple handcuffed us with the camera updates, specifically night mode. In other words, brilliant sales strategy by Apple.

Personally think Google took away alot of attractiveness away from the Pixel. Pixel 1 to 3 felt like they are doing something different. That three phones made Google felt like an early days "Apple". But from pixel 4... I have second thought. Pixel 4 is not worth it. What's with the battery size? It would not last me a day. My pixel 2 can last 4 hours. Yes only 4. What's with taking away full resolution picture and video backup? That hands free gesture seems more like a gimmick than a finished product. 90Hrz is nice but it doesn't justify the price. There's a reason why iPhone Xr was Apple last year's best seller. Price is key. Google pls don't go down the drain.....
I booted up my Nexus 5X for the first time after buying my 6P, Pixel, and then OnePlusvb . 3 years ago I hooked it up to the charger and left my house. When I came back the phone was smoking and the USB/housing was melted to a a soft fluid. 100% battery so I turned it off right after it happened. 35% battery left after all these years, and I took it as a sign to buy the Pixel 3. 👍

Soli radar works when you're in always on display while playing music. You dont even have to touch your phone to skip or previous song while in always-on display while the track is displayed as well. This feature IMO makes it leaps ahead of any iPhones. I just cannot go back to a phone without Always On Display for the convenience factor
Besides the fact it only works 1/10th of the time and the Soli chip literally makes this phone impossible to be used by over 1 billion people in the world because several countries ban the frequencies for consumer use that the Soli chip uses.
As someone who is still using a Galaxy S4, on a custom ROM long since discontinued, I'm really looking forward to seeing some good deals on used Pixel 3 phones!
I am with you. I am sticking with my Pixel 3 XL and wait for the Pixel 5. What would of made me upgrade is video capturing improvement and a HUGE improvement in image quality... doesn't look like I am missing much. If you have a Pixel 2...the 4 makes sense.
At this point I feel like Google's aim is to constantly receive negative feedback on their various devices for publicity or something. Why...would you take away the fingerprint sensor, whether on the back or in the screen. 🤦🏾♂️
The difference between optical zoom vs digital zoom is night and day. On a small display such as your phone, nothing noticeable. That is, until you zoom in.
abhishek sharma I’m not saying there is a problem. I’m asking because my Pixel 3 xl has 80% battery life after one year. That seams excessive to me and I’m wondering if the battery tech is improved.

My very 1st thought was how the camera module looks smaller then anticipated in regards to the phone size and it's way nicer in person... time to set this thing up!!!
The advantage to telephoto is everything looks normal. Cell phones are at a wide angle. Focal lengths are 25-30mm. 50mm is what the human eye sees. Telephoto makes images look more real. They make a vehicle look normal, or a person's face look non distorted. I'll take telephoto over ultrawide any day.
@@michelbruns Yeah Google figured in 2077 we would all have ultrawide pupil upgrades in our bionic eyes so that's why it only added the telephoto lens.

I also have pixel 3... And see no reason to buy pixel 4
It's supposed to be a huuuge upgrade idk if I'll be able to hold off on then 4a though.
5 is better
Front facing speaker was amazing... I will hold on my P3 for that reason, however that 90 refresh rate and orange looks nice... Please compare the speakers between 3 and 4 for media consumption
Very good review. I have the Pixel 3 and will probably have it for 3 generation.
Pixels are solid build phones. Kinda an exclusive club too. Nice to have people still say, "wow I like your phone, what is it?"
Same here! The only issue I have with pixel 3 is sometimes it takes loads of time to process an image especially if you edit it.
Who say that about the Pixel? They are not attractive phones.
Pixel 3 is a sexy looking phone. And so good to handle. Problem is we use everything with a case that takes away from the design.
I'm over here watching this on my pixel 2 XL

@@SidsTips what
@@ken3243 I was thinking about upgrading from my 2XL, but does not sound like it's worth it

I just love how more and more UA-camrs are changing the aspect ratio
And I just hate it ...
I am genuinely curious what you mean. I just started looking for a new phone a few days ago so I'm out of the loop as to what they are doing or not doing.
@@wc351 so bigger phones have a different ratio
I'm using the note 10 plus so it has a ratio of 18:9
iPhones like the standard one and the plus have a 16:9
My theory is...phone manufacturers do not include everything in their phone lines...why?
So you buy another and another to get close but not complete perfection..
So year after year we seem the new and shine latest model, with slight improvements.
And then you've got the Pixel 3a (and XL). The new Pixel 4 just doesn't do it for me. The biggest thing for me was no ultra wide. I love that on my V30 (which is my current phone) and I honestly don't think I could have a phone without that.
If Asus had made the ROG Phone 2 water resistant that would have been my go to for an upgrade. Now I'll just wait and see if LG gives us a new V-series phone this year.
I've had my v30 for 2 years and just ordered a pixel 4xl. The battery life is the thing that I'm most concerned with in addition to not having a fingerprint scanner for some apps 😬
Going to miss the hidac but looking forward to the pixel camera and seeing if it's much better than the v30.
The front facing camera on the v30 has to be my least favourite feature.
Anthony Cheeseman the battery life on the 4 and 4xl probably won’t be great. The sonar and 90hz display is a huge killer
@@Chedda1701 the front facing camera is almost offensively bad. The V30s camera is so great but it's draw back is that it really shines when your in manual mode which I don't mind since I'm usually setting up shots. Also audio recording is honestly still better than anything out there. I've never seen a phone that can record a loud concert with such clarity as this thing can.
It's really the niche things about the V30 that's kept me attached to it. If it's cameras we're just a bit better it genuinely would be my perfect phone.
@@Kingjay814 Kingjay814 I'm in the same boat as you. Rockin my V30 planned on copping the pixel 4. But they said no more unlimited storage made me rethink. It's not coming in INDIA, missing 1/7% of sales , 1/7th of population....
Having 1/7 of the world's population doesn't automatically mean you have 1/7 of the potential sales.
The average purchasing power of an Indian consumer is far less than someone from the US or Europe.
@@LaurenceLDN Yes you are correct 🙂👍, i just ment to say that , from 1.3B , even if 50k units gets sold , still it's profitable, then to not at all sell ....
I'm gonna get the Pixel 3. I still have the original that I love. When I'm ready to get a new phone I get the one back from the newest.
I don't think pixel phones are meant to be disposable, annual upgrades. I didn't get pixel 3... But I'm getting the 4.
Facts... As much as Android fans dislike Apple, Google is following the blueprint. The updates, the focus on the camera, the "S" iterations, even the ecosystem.
I mean I like it though so I'm gonna get it and wait for the software updates on it
@@Rayan_Iolanthe Still have my Pixel 2XL from work and besides some battery draining issues that pop up, but after a day or two clears up, the phone still performs really great.
@@PoeticFredrick i didnt mean to ask u to switch off ur wifi or Bluetooth, those option under location setting keep on searching for wifi or near by Bluetooth devices based on your location and give u suggestions, so it drain a bit of battery and other services just collect data based on location, they dont actually helps u out.. u can switch those off and still use all google services...
@@hemanthk7268 I switched it off, thank you for the tip! I shall see if it helps.
He literally just reviewed the pixel 3 and you should buy it over pixel 4
I really want to like the 4 but I just can't. It's too expensive for what you get I feel, and I can't live with 128gb of storage and a small battery.
@@jasonjung312 to be fair, your S7's battery probably doesn't last as long as it did when it was new, but if you want a battery champ, the iPhone pros are the way to go.
I had the 2xl for about 2 years, skipped the 3 because it was meh at best and waited for the 4 which also turned out to be meh lmao I went with the iphone 11 pro the camera is amazing. Hopefully ill make my way back to android again lol
If you're interested in the pixel 4 just wait mid year and you'll see the price drop and be more in line with its value. I pre-ordered the pixel 3 xl, wish I waited a few more months before buying....Great phone btw
What are you doing on your phone that you need more than 128gb?!?!?! I have 32 on my current phone and I run out of storage like bi-weekly...it’s quite annoying but I get by just fine!! (Its an iPhone 6 if you were wondering)
Loving the black color on the Pixel 4.
Next year's Pixel would come with a wide-angle. yes I said it
And?
Kiel 4G it will most likely substitute it, but not both, as it should.
I love your honest take, and I'm coming from the pixel 2XL so I'm getting the 4xl for that 90hz

Well, as a Pixel 3 owner, I'm pretty damn happy to hear this. 90hz downgraded to 60 most of the time. Portrait mode apparently got worse somehow (for now at least). Pixel 3 is still a sexy-ass phone and has only been out a year...I'm hardly gonna run and buy this one. I MAY clock in again if the pixel 5 is a huge jump forwards
Since the difference is not that large, should I wait for next year's pixel 5 ?
That is what I am doing

@@MrMukhtar17 A phone is just a tool. Buy it as such. A tool you have for a few years. If you buy it now, then in a few years get a better tool. Pixel 6 or 7. And either will be better than the Pixel 5. There is no perfect phone. Pick a budget you are happy with and buy. Once you own it, you will stop spending time googling about phones and just use your device.
If you ever have to question yourself if you should buy things, the answer should always be no. Always buy when you need it, the market never stops, especially with smartphones. I can't think of any device in the world that depreciates in value as smartphones do. Prices get slashed in half or more in under a year unless you're Apple.

I really like your background music everytime i watch your videos!!! It mesh well with your voice.
I don't think the average buyer will be willing to have this huge top bezel so that he/she can have the useless gesture controls.

The pixel 3 has such an iconic design, it really looks like 3 years combined into one excellwnt deaign. The pixel is just an frankenstein of too many ideas. I love the 5.7 size upgrade though, its a shame the batterie life is so bad.
I'm into battery life, large size and smooth. I barely use the camera lol

My Pixel 4XL in Clearly White just arrived & I have to say... Initial appearance and feel is very nice!!! Looks much better in person & the back feel is awesome.

Thank you Jon for the in-depth differences between Pixel 3 and 4. I have been debating which to get and I think Pixel 3 is the winner with the slightly more powerful battery and dual front facing speakers and still ingenious camera 😄 Pixel 3 internal storage is more than enough for me. Most my important pics and docs are saved to cloud, printed or saved on my pixelbook anyways. The Pixel 3 processor is more than enough fast for me for daily use and watching UA-cam videos; I don't play games or watch movies on my phone. The Pixel 4 gesture controls are not very accurate based on other reviews and I rather touch the screen instead of getting frustrated and possibly throwing the phone against the wall lol!
