The plastic these pixel 3a's use is quality. Doesn't feel like cheap plastic. It is quite solid feeling and light at the same time. Just like some of the old Nokia Lumia phones of the past.
I was all set in purchasing a pixal4 but couldn't pull the trigger. Instead I bought the 3a XL, why? The price of course. I paid 4oo.oo bucks on Cyber Monday tax included. A four hundred dollar difference. What am I missing, not much. This made me & my pocketbook very happy. The OLED display is very nice the battery 6to7hrs SOT. Plus the camera is just as good. I made the right choice, very good review!

@@Cambaudio you need Version 7.2 and then you choose the night mode. BUT you have to lean your phone against a thing because it has to be completely still. After this there should pop up the text "astro mode on" and then you are able to take the photo in astro mode.
@@Oakleyworld pretty much feels the same, just a couple of things I've had the pixel 4 for a month now and I've got several scratches on the screen so I'd definitely recommend a screen protector. Also the power button has been stuck on several occasions so been in contact with Google about getting a replacement handset
Regarding the rear fingerprint sensor, one of the most underrated feature is the swipe down from fp sensor to open notification tray. Very useful when you are in another app or game, and quickly wants to check the notification.
I had to disable this feature. I have rugged but very comfy phone case. My finger naturally rests right at the scanner and I kept opening the tray a lot of times.
I had the pixel 3a xl and I highly recommend it for people who wants a solid phone that does what it needs. It is not a gaming phone but a great phone that does 95 percent of the flagship phone without costing you money. It feels good holding onto it and most importantly it has great battery life and a great camera. I owned a lot of flagship phones but the pixel 3a xl is by far my most enjoyable phone. I am thinking of buying it again to use instead of my note 10 plus.
You'd rather use a P3a XL over a Note 10 Plus? Those are on totally opposite ends of the spectrum. Surprised you got the Note 10 Plus in the first place, since they are so different.
@@fl0sserelli yeah. I got the note 10 because I got a good deal. Note 10 is a great phone with that s pen. But that pixel was just right. The battery and camera was on point and everything just work. People may take this for granted but a phone still needs to be a phone. Call quality and signal strength seem to be better on my pixel. Ear piece is louder. But this not too say they note 10 isn't great. It is great for alot of things. It is a better phone than any pixel today. But the pixel just does the things I want better.
Your not alone , I have the nite 10 plus, and I just thought the pixel 3a Xl. Phone gets updates up until 2023, the note 10 plus I have only Android 9 pie, and I know it will get Android 10 but that's it. I love the pixel 3a xl
I have an iPhone XR and a Pixel 3a XL for work. I use it over my iPhone for pictures all day. If I didn’t love iMessage the pixel 3a would be all that I need.
I think group messaging is a big factor for some people. Edit: now that Microsoft integrates with Android phones and allows you to text from your laptop, that eliminates what used to be a MAJOR difference between Apple and Android
ilikevideos the experience. It’s a lot smoother than regular mms. Messages seem to go through quicker and you always have a confirmation your message was delivered or read. Also, attaching videos, images and links is much more fluid. On top of that, you get video previews within iMessage instead of having to open the link or UA-cam channel it plays in the message which is very convenient. So for me it’s reliability. Now I’m not knocking Android, because it has come a long ways. But even with RCS recently added to google messaging, and a slew of features, it’s still not quite on iMessages level.
I just bought the pixel 4 xl and compared to my 3 xl it's better. My wife still has the pixel 1 and it's leaps and bounds above it. The only thing that I think is a real negative is the battery , other than that I don't see one. Everyone worries to much about bezels on phones, most phones have them and your not looking at the bezels when you watch a video or a movie. And the 64 gigs is plenty for most people because all of my pictures are automatically saved on the Google cloud and Verizon's cloud which frees up a lot of space. The pixel 4 is not as bad as people say it is. There's something about ever phone if you look for it.
I have had a Pixel 3 since October 2018. It's been RMA'd 4 times. I finally got a refund from Google and bought a One Plus 7 Pro ...but returned it because the camera is nowhere near as good as a Pixel, and it's just way too large and heavy. I then bought a used Pixel 3 because, even though I've had my issues with it, when it worked - it is the best Android phone on the market. I thought about Pixel 4, but I need that fingerprint sensor (hardly any Android apps support face unlock), and the battery life is pretty bad. I can't wait until the Pixel 4a is available - that'll be my next phone.
bruh, you must be related to Nate. I thought you were Nate when I saw the thumbnail, and then hearing your voice and seeing you talk about the phones just confirms it. Great video btw.
So I've had a Pixel 2 for the last 2 years. Great phone. Have just upgraded to the 3a. Very impressed with it. I haven't handled a Pixel 4, and way contemplating getting one but just couldnt justify the price. But honestly, I don't think I made a bad decision at all. The general speed and camera is phenomenal. Battery life is very impressive too. Happy to wait for a while for my next upgrade. Great video though, certainly for anyone stuck on choosing between the two 👍🏻
For the vast majority of users it has to be the Pixel 3a, as you get a massive amount more bang for your buck. Also good that it has a fingerprint reader and headphone jack. If Google had had any sense they should have just made a more premium version of the 3a, retaining these features but adding wireless charging, a faster processor, waterproofing and face unlock. A wide angle lens (not just a zoom lens) would be good too.
Nice job... for the money the Pixel 3a is a much better deal...I think also if you have the pixel 3a Already there is really no reason to upgrade the picture quality is a little bit better but honestly I don’t sit around taking pictures of the stars not that that’s not cool but it’s not a daily activity and having a headphone jack is definitely a plus
I think they're actually rolling out updates to older pixels to include astrophotography and the voice recording app, so even less reason to upgrade there!
I have the 3a XL and paid 4oo.oo bucks tax included. I considered both 4's but the prices killed it for me. I really don't feel I'm missing much. Even with 4gigs it performs very well. The software with the 670 works admirably, no lags or stutters. For me, the price made the difference! Great review... Why spend the big bucks when the 3a performs almost just as good?
A very well thought out and informative video. I have the Pixel 3A which I bought over the Pixel 3 because of the price. I got it for the excellent camera. My question is I'm considering upgrading to the Pixel 4 because I can purchase it for the price of the 3A and I wanted the price to camera improvements but is there enough improvements or should I wait for the Pixel 5 instead? Best wishes Duane
The Pixel 4 battery was very disappointing to me. I would actually recommend waiting for the Pixel 4A in a few months. I have high expectations for that phone
@@MikeOBrienMedia Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't the 3A 'tweaked' to correct some issues the Pixel 3 had? Actually I have been thinking about waiting for the 4A XL. Thanks. Duane
If you're looking for a premium phone..look for other flapship phones from renowned brands which offers better options than the Pixel 4 under that price point.
Battery life difference = + 40% for 3a. For speed, both never lag. 4 is just a bit faster. And for the cameras, there is not much difference either. I ended up keeping the 3a. And I didn't consider the price. Battery life is just must have.
@@MikeOBrienMedia Not just battery. Pixel 3a looks better to be honest. That damn huge asymmetrical forehead cause me nausea. Performance wise, I used Pixel 4 for 3 days and haven't found it any faster than Pixel 4 in real life. I don't want to reveal my full list of complains about Pixel 4. Just wanna say that It's not worth money spend right now to my opinion. All things considered, It feels like Pixel 4a and should be priced like that :). Cheers
I have both pixel 3a and 4 and honestly the difference to most people won't be much, but to me camera is a lot better specially in astrophotography and portraits thanks to that 2nd lens... And i got myself the 4 cause it was at 400$ on t mobile and i cracked the screen of my 3a... so it was a no brainer Battery does take a hit since its smaller and its running a more powerful device but its really not that much and it charges pretty fast... Wireless charger and an ip rating is good and the overall performance is faster, you really notice it when you multitasking a lot. For 800$ its too much, but getting it with specials like that one its a steal... And the comfort of a small phone is priceless... Not many powerful phones like that these days not everyone wants to have a giant phone
I chose the 3a XL over the pixal4, why? Two reasons, the price & the 🔋. I'm getting 7to8hrs SOT? Plus it made me & my pocketbook very happy. Am I missing much, alittle but not in the 📷 department!
I have a 3a XL. I just ordered a 4 XL, since the price is $599 on Google. Hoping reduced battery doesn't ruin the experience. One other addition you didn't mention in video: Pixel 4 has Qi wireless charging, 3a doesn't. BTW, if it weren't for sale at Google, I would have bought a OnePlus 8 Pro!
The pixel 3a is the best true bang for your buck mid range phone we can get in the US . An excellent phone and 7 months later still no stutters and lags like every other Android phone I had previously.
I've been waiting 6 years to upgrade my phone. That's right. The Pixel 3a caught my eye, but I'm a fan of speedy hardware that I've never had. I don't really care much for the camera, I'd be happy with the 5MP res from my 5th gen iPod. But I have to ask myself, do I REALLY need the Snapdragon 855? Probably not. I have a Moto E, so the Snapdragon 670 would feel like a rocket to me. Looks like I have my answer. Flagship experience at budget price, Pixel 3a it is.
I sorely miss the features of the pixel 3a I had over the summer, now carrying an iphone XR. Features such as telling me a whole list of songs that were playing in my car radio (I like this feature) or just how google assistant is light years ahead of Siri. Trust me on this, I use(d) a lot of voice commands and Siri is actually getting worse and falling farther and farther behind to Google and Alexa. I considering re-buying it once more, I was gonna get Pixel 4 back in November, but the small battery is an absolute show stopper for me.
I love ur videos a lot Brian but don't you think it would be better if you focused on making reviews about products people want to see? (Just a suggestion didn't mean to anger anyone)
The Google Pixel 4 - a 4th gen photography oriented flagship phone by the world's biggest company- won't let you flip selfies. Yup. It shows you the front facing camera in mirror mode, but then flips the pictures you take. This can NOT be disabled. There is no 'flip image horizontal' option in the editing. It's a $1000 flagship lol.
Am I correct in understanding, Google have dropped the 'unlimited picture/video storage' for the Pixel range from 4 onward? To me, that's important - so I daresay I'll to stay with my Pixel 3.
I'm liking your videos. I have a 3a and have been using it for 6 moths on and off. I do find myself going back to it after using higher end phones. The pixel line of phones are TOOLS they get it done and do it well. The speaker on the 3a are great for what it is, the screen and camera are nice too. I got the 3a for $300 and it has made it hard to justify spending 8-9 or even more on a phone because it runs so we'll in day to day use. However I love the look of the 4 so I could only wish for a pixel 4a to come out in the future.
Idk why google changed the back of the Pixel imo th Pixel 1,2, and 3 designs with the 2 tone design made it unique and stand out from all the single colored slabs out there.
Get my pixel 4XL for 640 euros. I am so happy + free insurance for damage or theft. And the bezels on the 3a are too big. And I love the 90 Hz Display. Never want back to 60 Hz haha.
@@huzcer Reviews are good, that you know which tech this phone has etc. But it's often for clicks. It's a great phone I love it. Battery life is good and I forced 90 Hz. Pixel 4 non XL is horrible yes!
Pixel 4 is like 2-3 times more than a pixel 3a. If you're willing to deal with a slightly slower, (A-) Camera, and a cheaper feel, I would highly recommend the 3a for its value. Same great pixel experience without the huge price tag. Realistically, even if I had the money, I would still say that the pixel 4 still doesn't merit it's price. I would only pay $550 at the most for it.
Mike O'Brien nothing, I had an iPhone 7 for three years and the screen cracked a couple months ago, so it was worth nothing. It was for an upgrade, which I was surprised about because it was the cheapest price available, usually new lines are the lowest priced options. Best Buy had $200 off and sprint pretty much had another $200 off. I couldn’t believe it, I’ve been looking for a new phone for months!
I paid 4oo.oo bucks tax included with my 3a XL 6 most ago. It backs up my S10+. Of course the S10+ is faster but not by that much. The 670processer works admirably, no lags or stutters. You want a great 📷, both 3a's are very well equipped? These are still great phones in 2020? Especially if you like 📷 features!
Got my 3a a week ago upgrading from a Samsung a8 I loved and it's been a nice change the phone is awesome and with it only have a QC 670 it's nice and smooth and ofc the camera
Flagship phones aren't worth it unless you're a power user. Such as taking tons of photos/video for work, lots of gaming, etc. Your average user has no use for a premium phone other than to flex their wallet. Wait for a Pixel 4aXL.

unfortunately the Snapdragon 670 rears it ugly head from time to time on the 3a. I initially bought the 3a because my Pixel 2 died at the same time I was buying a house so I needed to pay cash for a phone so it wouldn't effect my credit during the lone approval process. The 3a was great right out of the box however about six months later the phone became very laggy and buggy and essentially slowed way down, even after multiple factory resets. I'm not to disappointed though, I got nine months out of it. I have a 4XL on the way.

I have the 3a now and it's really impressive! I can use the astro mode too and I took so many pictures of the stars...unbelievable!
I think my next Phone will be a Pixel 5a...I mean there are coming two more Updates for my 3a.
How do I use the astro mode please?
@@Cambaudio you need Version 7.2 and then you choose the night mode. BUT you have to lean your phone against a thing because it has to be completely still. After this there should pop up the text "astro mode on" and then you are able to take the photo in astro mode.
Recently traded in my pixel 3a for the pixel 4... Pixel 3a is excellent for the price, coming from a Google fan
Yeah best phone at that price range easily
Do you like the the 4 alot more or does it feel kinda the same?
@@Oakleyworld pretty much feels the same, just a couple of things I've had the pixel 4 for a month now and I've got several scratches on the screen so I'd definitely recommend a screen protector. Also the power button has been stuck on several occasions so been in contact with Google about getting a replacement handset
@@davidcarrington3139 i really like Pixel phones, im sure they'll take care of you.
Regarding the rear fingerprint sensor, one of the most underrated feature is the swipe down from fp sensor to open notification tray. Very useful when you are in another app or game, and quickly wants to check the notification.
Good point!
I own the OnePlus 7pro and still bought another 3a xl...off eBay, but it's my daily driver. Keep the more flagship for weekends and watching HDR stuff

Have a Pixel 3 A $ 399 and had to get the new pixel 4 now on sale $499 unlocked for an upgrade this week. Online sale.
This kind of made me realize how impatient people are these days. A second can really annoy people?
A millisecond to be exact
I have an iPhone XR and a Pixel 3a XL for work. I use it over my iPhone for pictures all day. If I didn’t love iMessage the pixel 3a would be all that I need.
Serious question. What is the main difference with iMessage in daily use and messaging? As a permanent Android user, I'm curious what the big deal is.
@@battlepowered Thanks. That makes sense. I've been fine with Messages, but hopefully it does slowly improve with RCS.
@@MikeOBrienMedia I didn't know that about Microsoft, but you can use Messages on a Chromebook. How does group messaging differ on an iphone?
Why should I upgrade to from my Google pixel 2
Mate, buy a smartphone and keep it for a couple years
How much did you buy a used pixel for?
3:30 did he say wide angle?
bruh, you must be related to Nate. I thought you were Nate when I saw the thumbnail, and then hearing your voice and seeing you talk about the phones just confirms it. Great video btw.
Yeah we are bothers actually. Great observation!
Thank you so much... For the wonderful and awesome comparison... Becoz mike i am torn between the 3a and 4 as well
Thanks for watching!! I'm really happy you liked the review.
Great video though, certainly for anyone stuck on choosing between the two 👍🏻
$499
Hows the battery lasting for you now on the pixel 4?
For the vast majority of users it has to be the Pixel 3a, as you get a massive amount more bang for your buck. Also good that it has a fingerprint reader and headphone jack. If Google had had any sense they should have just made a more premium version of the 3a, retaining these features but adding wireless charging, a faster processor, waterproofing and face unlock. A wide angle lens (not just a zoom lens) would be good too.
I'm rocking the oh so orange Pixel 4 and am loving it!😁
Yeah I have the glossy black one looks so clean.
Guys, how is the battery life on it?
Just shy of 5 hours screen on while forcing 90 Hertz.
I use dark mode w/ a mostly black wall paper, motion sense on and 90 Hertz refresh rate.
@@mgreenester XL or smaller one?
3:00 whats that white thing on the rear camera??
I believe that's the flash
Nice job... for the money the Pixel 3a is a much better deal...I think also if you have the pixel 3a Already there is really no reason to upgrade the picture quality is a little bit better but honestly I don’t sit around taking pictures of the stars not that that’s not cool but it’s not a daily activity and having a headphone jack is definitely a plus
I think they're actually rolling out updates to older pixels to include astrophotography and the voice recording app, so even less reason to upgrade there!
@@MikeOBrienMedia I just got my pixel this weekend. I don't have that upgrade as of yet. Maybe it will come Soon hopefully
Thanks! I am really excited to see a possible Pixel 4a this spring!
Best wishes

The Pixel 4 battery was very disappointing to me. I would actually recommend waiting for the Pixel 4A in a few months. I have high expectations for that phone
@@MikeOBrienMedia
Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't the 3A 'tweaked' to correct some issues the Pixel 3 had? Actually I have been thinking about waiting for the 4A XL. Thanks. Duane
@@MikeOBrienMedia
I'll probably go with the XL whether it is the 4 or 4A.
How about the A71 and the 3a
If you're looking for a premium phone..look for other flapship phones from renowned brands which offers better options than the Pixel 4 under that price point.
It's unfortunate that the pixel came up short on some important specs. You are right though, for many people the Pixel 4 is not the answer
Do you thing that the price will drop to the same as the google pixle 3 in the next 2 or 3 month's
Battery life difference = + 40% for 3a. For speed, both never lag. 4 is just a bit faster. And for the cameras, there is not much difference either.
I ended up keeping the 3a. And I didn't consider the price. Battery life is just must have.
Good analysis. For most users, the 3a is a much better option. Battery is a big factor
@@MikeOBrienMedia Not just battery. Pixel 3a looks better to be honest. That damn huge asymmetrical forehead cause me nausea. Battery does take a hit since its smaller and its running a more powerful device but its really not that much and it charges pretty fast...

Wats the battery life difference between pixel 3a and pixel 3axl and ease of use for typing
Anyone knows the music name at 0:41?
Mike, love your videos man. Any chance you could do a 3 XL v 4 XL. Given that the CPUs etc are more comparable.
No reason to get the P4/P4 XL when the P3a/P3a XL exist.
Plus one vote for the 3a series!
The pixel 3a is the best true bang for your buck mid range phone we can get in the US .
An excellent phone and 7 months later still no stutters and lags like every other Android phone I had previously.
@@patcola7335 especially the snapdragon versions of Samsungs they slow down badly by a year- 2 years while the exynos is still fast weird.
You mean no reason that you can think of. In reality, there are many reasons to get the 4 XL over the 3A.
I am optimistic about the Pixel 4a!
Interesting review so similar but there are some big differences such as the 90Hz (liked the video)

I bought a used pixel 1 for $85 after I broke my 1+5t. Not as good as a 3a but you can't beat Android 10 for under a buck
I have my pixel 1 as a backup phone, still really good!
Am I correct in understanding, Google have dropped the 'unlimited picture/video storage' for the Pixel range from 4 onward? To me, that's important - so I daresay I'll to stay with my Pixel 3.
I love my 3a it's a small dinosaur but can do everything :)
You can get the astrophotography mode on the 3a too now
I'm liking your videos.

Mike O'Brien nothing, I had an iPhone 7 for three years and the screen cracked a couple months ago, so it was worth nothing. It was for an upgrade, which I was surprised about because it was the cheapest price available, usually new lines are the lowest priced options. unfortunately the Snapdragon 670 rears it ugly head from time to time on the 3a.
