- Easy DIY how to: draining and refilling oil and changing oil filter on a Suzuki M13A engine. The car featured is a second generation 2006 Swift but the process applies generally. This engine was also used in the Jimny, Aerio, Liana, Chevrolet / Holden Cruze, and Subaru Justy.
You will need:
* Jack & axle stands, ramps, or some other safe way of getting under the car. Do not use the vehicle's spare wheel jack.
* Oil, semi or full synthetic 10w40 or 5w30 depending on climate (refer to user guide for Suzuki chart). Amazon links:

You are a great teacher sir, a great communicator. You need to do more vedios .you will grow, you have a great career ahead, I dont know if anyone told you that but I have discovered the genius in you. God bless you.
First of all I would like to thank you for your time , this video has made me more comfortable in changing my swifts oil instead of wasting a tone load of money for a car service where typically you will always get sacmed great job thanks once again
Wow fantastic, a DIY car job, its simple and straightforward explanation for the procedures for fresh change oil/filter replacement. Better DIY to avoid being scam in automotive shops. Thanks a lot for the upload.
Once I found out just how easy it was to change my airfilter, I realized that I had always overestimated small maintenance. Can’t wait to get to work on my Swift.
Thanks Craig. Can you do a video on fuel filter replacement?
Best video online for this kind of DIY job! Simple and clear, hi-def video. Congrats!
Thanks Craig. I have the same car but mine is a manual. Could you do a video of a spark plug change? I have been trying to learn how to do it myself but am having trouble locating them. Thanks again.
Senang rupanya nak tukar minyak hitam sendiri. Tq..
Thanks Craig. Glad someone put this up :)
Great job
Great video. Clean wording, useful content and clean camera work. Thanks you. I am confident to do the oil change on my swift myself.
Great video! I use a solo cup under the oil filter when I do it, I think that's easier. Manyautosltd.com is my car doctor and I really appreciate their team for being such sweetheart
thank you for the great presentation, detailed information, and pleasing cinematography. it aided me in learning how to do it on my car in the future.
enjoy!
I still have this model 😜
You need to get one of these and a quarter in breaker bar: Ryco Oil Filter Cup Wrench - RST201.
Great Video Very clear and covers all points .
sir pls make video on removing wiper washer tank and find leakage of swift dezir
Just seen this video, now. I am looking for a video of the fuel filter Change. It would bem very Nice. Cheers.
Thanks mate
Very comprehensive and clear presentation. Thanks mate.
New drain plug washer needed on every change?
I in the m13a engine in Italy in Florence use 10w40 or 15w40 as engine oil since my suzuki Jimny is from 2001!
Thank you sir
what engine oil do you put in the suzuki Jimny 4x4 with m13a engine ?
Hii do you have this Swift still with you
Thanks!
thanks!
This is the third generation SWIFT...but, Thanks for video!
First time seeing your channel. Great video, very explanatory, nice video. Great job !
Why you dont use compressor air to clean the reduce oil???
Hi Craig,,very good presentation, but just one thought.
When ever l change oil filters that are vertical like the swift's,l always add atleast a reasonable amount of oil in the filter,. This allows the motor to start up with new oil flowing through the engines main bearings, and prolong the life of the motor, diesels are particularly sensitive to dry start ups.
Thank you sir explained really well 👍🏻
thanks
First of, thanks for the clear video. at what interval do you change the oil? we now have 5w30 wich we change every 8000km's, but i'm planning on using 10w40 because it's almost 20$ cheaper.
I think the Suzuki spec is 15000 km. The viscosity should be spec'ed by the environment & common temperatures, look up the Suzuki table, I wouldn't let $20 every 15000 km influence that decision. Consider full synth.
@@CraigsDIY I use synth 5w30 in Italy...with 20k km intervals (always replace filter too)
i think 20k is quite long even with synthetic 5w30 oil. I now use 10w40 and change it every 7500km without any problems.
@@NathanCelica 7500km look a short interval for a non sporty engine...I will stick to the 15k km recommendation from now on
@@Purplino 20K? i change it every 8k.. its quite a large interval 20k
Do you have a sparK plug change video on this car?
Nope.
Simple and clear ,thanks
Thank you my friend. I also own the same car in India.
I use 5w40 full synthetic.
Thanks! I just saved ~50€ by changing it myself...
GT You can also get it done for free at Shell.
Brother what if we use semi or part synthetic, does it effect the car engine
Nope just replace it a bit earlier.
Great video.
That was awesome
By the way you do not have other video of the Swift. Did you sell it ?
Sorry it was a friend's, just a once off.
This car sounds smooth as butter and looks clean as milk !!
Hi,
Could we put the jack stands just beside or a bit in front of the recommanded placement point (which looks like a square shape) for lifting jack. This is quite at the door frame.
Because the lifting jack came with the car cannot lift the car high enough in-order to put the jacks stands at where we see in your video.
Thank you.
hii
accordinf to manual 5w30 reqiure
It depends on the climate where you live which oil to use. Look in your handbook under engine oil and filter. 5W-30 is for climate between -30 and +10 degrees C, 10W-30 for -20 to +30, and 10W-40 for -20 to +45. Choose the one which best fits your local climate. One of them should be labelled preferred for the climate where the car was first sold.
Replevideo climate doesnt matter... If engine said 5w-30 is better use that oil both in cold and hot climate, engine produce much more heat than any climate and also if the oil is too tick for engine tollerances, doesnt lubrificate if properly... My 2016 swift require 0w-20 or only for 1 time 5w-30 if tinner oil is not available, and were i live, in summer temperature is easly over 30.
If i put a way to tick oil, maybe 10w-40 like cheap oil commonly sold in shops, i certanly wear the engine since oil still to tick.
@@Tonyx.yt. it depends on the climate. I have a japan import ZC71S with the k12b engine. I talked to various mechanics in my country and they all told me to stick with 10w40 because of the climate. I even spoke to the local suzuki dealer and he also told me to use 10w40
The only extra thing I do is put Nulon Oil Flush in the top first and run the car for 10mins to break up all the old oil. Plus running the car at the start warms the oil also.
Nice diy video, but the oil filer appears to be different in my Swift Diesel engine.
I guess you have a diesel engine then.
bro what about the Fuel filter ?????
Are there any problems you have experienced with the Swift?
Drill a small hole in bottom of old filter or smack a small screwdriver through it(before un screwing). This will help drain the oil out of filter and make the changing a lot cleaner process....
Where’s the fuel filter ?
with the air filter too would have been perfect.
I Think 10w30 is bether, 10w40 ist to thick...this car works with 0W20
....and replace the drain plug washer..
Oil capacity is actualy 3.7L
The filter is that much bigger tho
Only Full Synthetic Oil can enter. 5w30 or 5w40 with a worn engine valvoline maxlife 10W40
This 10w40 in this engine is too much. I am using 0w20. 54.000 km in the engine. And they dont recommend 10w40.
the suzuki swift you got is a Gen 4 not 2
gen 2 is from 1989 - 1995
50 ??? NM??? MAYBE MUCH??? YOU CHEK MANOUAL??? MAYBE 30 IS BETER???
Better wear nitrile gloves, it's the kind of oil you want on your skin
This is NOT the 2nd generation!! This is the 4. generation!!
No it's called a 2nd gen in the UK. Confusing since there already was a mk2 swift, but i guess this is the first big change they made.
Who cares how its called in the UK? This is the 4. generation of swift, thats the truth...
@@chickenderhun Your probably the only person in the world that cares. Each version is called different things in a lot of countries. It's a UK video so he called it the 2nd gen.
I'm sorry but 10w 40 is the worst for this engine.
Why
@@rc2634 Viscosity is heavy for this engine, I felt it when used it once.
Best oil for this engine that would serve you best performance is 5w 30 or 0w 20, per the manual and from my personal experiences.
@@adelaljammal thanks for your answer 👍
I am a bit surprised because my manual refers 10W40
@@rc2634 probably it depends on the region and some other factors. My engine is m15a (1.5) and the car region is GCC.
The guy in the video is in New Zealand, the climate here is quite mild, most parts of the country don't get cold enough for really thin oil to make sense, I use the same Nulon 10W-40 in my cars here and it works fine
