Today we are building a whole bunch of wooden barricades that will work perfectly on my wargaming board! These scatter terrain pieces are definitely a must and I am excited to use it in some upcoming battle reports.
This build is perfect for tabletop games such as Frostgrave, wargaming, or other tabletop games like Dungeons & Dragons!
This is a great way to get started in making some tabletop terrain for new folks and those that are experienced tabletop crafters as well.
Top notch, mate!
Thank you very much. I appreciate it! 😍
Love the arrows in the barricades. Really nice touch.
Thank you, Justin! I appreciate it, buddy! 🥰
Your videos are, as ever, a delight
So are your wonderful comments! 🥰
Awesome build!
Thank you I appreciate it!
Just wanted to say thanks so much for this channel! All of your tips and tricks have been super helpful when getting back into terrain building, and your production quality is top notch as well! ⚔☠✨
Thanks a lot, Dana! Appreciate you reaching out! You also reminded me, I should reach out to Adam at army painter and snag a few more paints! 😅
@@DiceChatter you absolutely should haha :)
fantastic barricades, and that torches one is great, really shows the remnants of spells of battles long past.
Yes yes! Glad you enjoy it and I'm happy it worked out so easily!
Really like these, especially the burnt one. Cool idea.
Thanks, jtrow! I sometimes even surprise myself. I'm just happy it worked out! 😅
Brilliant way to make barricades. I was surprised you didn't make some out of the fallen crystal formations as well.
The use of rope, shading and the torch were amazing.
I tend to make barricades out of bits of craft sticks glued together into overturned tables, and crates made from coffee stir sticks glued onto tiny wooden blocks. (Glue them first, then cut them to size; it's easier than trying to measure each tiny plank). Hobby stores also sell tiny little wood "pickle barrels", which can be found in a scale consistent with 28mm minis. Glue a bunch of these pieces together, and you have solid bits of cover that look visually interesting, and can even be climbed on. (I crafted tiny ladders to stick to the barricades, so models can scale other terrain pieces next to them).
If you want another easy option for scatter, a lot of the craft stores have little wooden barrels that are easy to paint up and glue together in different arrangements. If you have baby wipes, dry some out and grab some wooden cubes from the same craft stores and drape the wipes over it like tarps over crates
Some good ideas here! Thank you!
1. Great surprise at the end! Wonderful simple build.
2. Your next frostgrave warband should be an all speed and movement build with spells and high movement hires!
Thank you Fables! And who knows what will be in store with the next warband! 🧙♂️🧙♂️🧙♂️
Great barricades! The burnt one was another stroke of genius
Thank you, Ed! Appreciate it my friend!
Air brushing has always been super intimidating. I think I have had mine for 1-2 years before I felt comfortable enough to use it, but I rarely get the time to do anything.
Practice doesn't only make perfect, but it also makes you feel comfortable. I hope you get the time to airbrush a bit more. I'm sure the tool misses you! 😂
Best gawdamn Frostgrave fella in the biz, Dice Chatter, I love every video you give us!
Much appreciated! Just happy folks like yourself enjoy the videos. 🥰
Those really turned out fantastic! The changing ratios of paint really did a great job of making them look cohesive yet unique.
Thanks a bunch! The best part about painting that way is you don’t even have to think that much. Just slap on the paint and move onto the next thing!
Adding the string is such a good idea. Definitely going to be including that in my future builds
Please do! Glad you enjoyed the build 🥰
The scorching was a great idea! Nice build bro, well done 😊👍
Thanks, Harry! It was fun reliving some pyromaniac days 🔥
again a wonderfull set of scenery for the board. Awsome!
Thank you! Glad folks have enjoyed the build!
Great result with the blowtorch!
Sometimes the risk actually pays off!
These look so great! The color palettes are so nice an unified. That scorched barricade in particular looks amazing!
Thanks a lot Corwin! Sometimes, the risks pay off!
Simple and effective! That experiment at the end is absolutely unhinged, and the result is really neat. It must smell good too.
Haha! Keggers, you are absolutely correct! It does smell quite nice…
The barricades look fab. Especially the burnt one.
Thanks, Reddog! Sometimes the risk pays off!
Very nice, always good to have LOS-blocking options, and the fireballed barricade is a nice bit of environmental storytelling
Thank you! I'm just happy the torch didn't ruin the barricade!
That burnt barricade turned out great!
Sometimes I even surprise myself! Thank you!
Moooooore more more!
I take it you are very proud of the cool bat critter
It’s not a bad model! Though, it’s there to get a better idea of the “scale” of the build.
Loving this Donny. Great work! Love th eproduction quality too! Looks amazing and can tell you've put in a load of work on this!
Hey hey! Good to hear from you guys! And I appreciate the kind words 😁😁
c'est toujours un plaisir de regarder tes vidéos, c'est ludique et chill ^^
Et c'est un plaisir de lire vos commentaires !
It became a work of art ✨✨
Awww, shucks ☺️
Height is a problem I've noticed across many wargames. Only ranged units wil bother with floors unless there is an explicit reason to go upstairs. This is usually because an objective is upstairs. Among wargames, Carnevale has an interesting system which incentivizes a lot more climbing and bouncing around than something like Frostgrave or Mordheim.
Thanks for the info! Very interesting!
Oh my days! DONNY!! I've been away but now I'm back, and I get to watch TWO of your finest videos? Wooh! I'm spoiled matey 🤣 thank you for the awesome content as always man, and I love the punk attitude of a certain barricade... Brilliant!!!
Good to hear from you Robbie! Always fun to read your comments! 🥰🥰🥰
Watched this video when it first came out and immediately knewi needed to make them. Just finished building them, ive got the zenithle prime drying as we speak. I needed a quick win. Great video it was a lot of fun
Steven! Happy to read this my friend! We all need some quick wins now and again 😁
On the subject of airbrushes, I've seen really cheap ones on the Internet going for as low as ~$30, which is about what you'd pay for a hard plastic kit of soldiers from most (non-GW) model manufacturers. Getting one can be a good investment, even if you can't get one quite so cheap. If you only use it for priming models, it'll make its money back, compared to buying rattle cans.
Very cool, as always!
Thanks again, Ryan!
I love your videos, you have so much fun with them. Nice simple build that really does add a lot to the game, well done. Thanks!!!
Thanks, Metajock! Appreciate the kind words!
for your next terrain build, you should add things like crates and boxes, or a wagon. That way you can add some filler items to your board that can also act as makeshift cover for your units. a broken wagon with a wheel laying on the ground under it would make perfect sense abandoned out in the ruins, maybe with the skeleton of the horse or Ox that was stuck to it.
I like the way you think! I'll be sure to add this to my long list of ideas! 😅😅😅
Nice colors
Thanks, Garth! I’m just happy it worked out!
Man, it's been a while since I watched one of your vids. Great vid
Welcome back! Happy to have you along for the ride!
Have you checked out any of the illuminated spell marker tutorials? That stream of fire that the wizard was pissing made me think it could be a fun enhancement for your table. I've seen some really nice ones done with a tea light and pillow stuffing along with a few paints and an airbrush.
No actually! Sounds like a neat idea! 🔥
I think the only detail missing is a little bit of blood effects leaking from the ax wound in the giant finger
Oooooh, good idea!
Love it!
I love you 🥰
I love your video production AND the content! Thanks, Donny (Donnie?)
Donny with a Y. And thank you Shane as always! Happy to see the comment roll in! 😁😁
I was wondering when I will see something new from you, Love the content.
More to come! 🤓
setting fire to terrain? never see that before, but it looks cool.
Nice work
nice
You’re nice 😁
Snuck this one past me Donny!!! LOL
Hehehehe (mischievous laughter) 🙃
What was the overall height of these barricades when building?
I love the games in vertical, but it is complicated to store isn't it? Nevertheless, blocking terraing that allows to shoot or gives cover is amazing always!
Terrain can definitely be a bit of a pain to store. I am pretty fortunate that I have the space to accommodate a number of larger terrain pieces, mainly due to the fact that I have been purging some old builds and creations from the collection 😅
toothbrush for blood splatters.
That is definitely another good way to add splatter!
These look great ^^
Any recommendations for sets to get for extra bits like weapons etc to use as details for these?
I've finally been getting my hands into terrain crafting and my current stuff is a bit simple and looks okay I wanna improve my game and make them really stand out as I'm having a lot of fun building terrain ^^
Honestly, any leftover sprues from any manufacturer should be great. Though, I think the Frostgrave ones from Osprey are my favorite.
@@DiceChatter thnxies il look into and than props pick it up ^^
I love lots of bitsies and while I have a few from warhammer ist mainly goblin and ghoul stuff and they dint come with many extra bits sadly ^^

Great video! Engagement
Thank you my friend! 😬
I felt so guilty leaving the 421st like on here
Hahaha! 😂

KitbashCarnage hear at the age of 31 iv recently got back into the warhammer/kitbashing community agen after taking 15year brake to pay bills and so on .
I have taken the leap head on and started a youtube channel along with Instagram, Facebook and Tiktok. It's hard with this algorithm thing is somthing to get used to along with editing and so on but my love and the flame for my lost passion has been reignited more then ever and dont plan on stopping soon .

Thanks, Kitbash! Good to have you around. 🤓
What was the overall height of these barricades when building?
1.5 inches give or take a tiny bit. About the height of a standard 28mm model.
These are absolutely fantastic, and an Elgin solution to an upcoming session. Thank you so much for posting.
