  • Another DIYSOLAR Forum Question.
"Can the EG4 Communication Hub coonect with Solar Assistant and simultaneously allow closed loop communication between the LIFEPOWER4 Batteries and Inverters?"
Bonus: Hub also enables sharing closed loop data with multiple inverters.

I just ordered one of the hubs with your affiliate link. Hopefully you will get the credit for it. 👍🏻

Thanks for sharing. I’ve been using SolarAssistant with my 6000EXs but will soon be upgrading to the 6000XPs and wasn’t sure if SA was useful.

I use Solar Assistant for the data and graphs.

@@theadventuresofarenaissancman that makes sense. I was hoping that would be in the new eg4 app. Maybe some day 🤷🏼

I purchased Solar Assistant prior to owning the 18Kpv. I probably wouldn't have purchased SA since the OEM EG4 app and website for the 18Kpv/6000XP is sufficient for most users.

Thanks for the video. So the eg4 hub is allowing you to use both it And SA to monitor the batteries? Would you be able to run it the same way with out the eg4 hub?

So your solar assistant can read the data from all packs even when its connected to the last slave pack? I am trying to get solar assistant to see my Ruixu batteries but no luck yet

Yes, my SA is reading battery data, the rj45 to usb cable is read/write compatible and connected to the end (12/last battery of the string). My Lifepower4 batteries are running the newer firmware that uses the updated 19,200 baudrate.

Nice system! You got a few more batteries than me lol. My next goal is to connect my 6000xp to grid at AC Input with hopes when my batteries get low, I can program the XP to connect to grid and recharge my batteries to say, 40% or so just enough for a sunny day to recharge it completely. Hoping to get rid of these 4 plus cloudy days blues! I have one more problem, my batteries are DIY LifePO4 and I can't communicate with the XP (yet). Do you think the solar assistant will work and have you tried doing this? Thanks for the videos! Always enjoyed! Happy New Year to Ya!

Check out Adam on UA-cam. He has DIY Batteries. He is using Victron components. I've heard of some BMS that might work, but I don't have any experience with them. Here is Adam's channel. youtube.com/@AdamDeLay07?si=EW0j8-ayM7VoKOir

After a few months of watching...you will have voltage and % of charge memorized. Sounds like you should use 49v (12%) discharge cut off and AC charge up to 52v (40%)

Yes I'm actually subscribed to him as well. He has some interesting stuff too. Nice to have this community online. I'll see what he's up too. Thanks! I also like Will Prowse (been watching him for years) and Ray builds Cool stuff has a great DIY battery I copied but the DIY's are going the way side with these server racks dropping so much in cost. Probably what I'll do next stack of batteries. Take care and Thanks!@@theadventuresofarenaissancman

So SA is not plugged into the comms hub or batteries? Its reading battery through the 18kPV?

The ethernet cable is connected to a router. Not the 18Kpv. I definitely see the confusion, I should have made the clearer.

Yea I was a bit confused about that as well.

So from what I gather, I need to buy an EG4 hub to be able to see my battery data again in SA. When SA was directly connected to the battery bank all was well, but when I switched to closed loop comms with the 18k, I had to give up that port to the inverter and SA, even though configured to connect to the 18k in the EG4 monitor software, doesn't show battery bank info currently.

Just re-watched it again. Didn't catch that you plugged SA into the open jack in the bottom battery, the first go round. I'm about to go try that as well. It'd save the cost of buying a hub if it works.

Hmm, SA is just cycling through addresses and saying invalid data received. There is an SA update that looks like it just came out, so I'll give that a try. I'm guessing it's just not liking the fact that it's not connected to the master battery pack. Sent you a screen recording clip on the forum chat.
