    Will this only work if you are off grid? I'm trying to figure out if this can work when the grid is connected and it would seem like the answer is no. Still would be a great solution for me here in Houston when the grid goes down. In that event, if I follow the video...I could hook up my 15,000 watt generator...set the 18k to say...pull 12,000 watts...and then when my load exceeds 12,000 it would pull from PV and batteries. Am I thinking about this the right way?

      @@theadventuresofarenaissancman the reason I ask is that an eg4 tech in one of the forums says the total AC output remains the same for either unit...just changes the mix...i.e. from a generator. i was hoping it would increase the capacity on the AC bus side so I can pull larger loads (in a grid down situation where normally the grid bypass would be the way to handle larger loads).

It would be very helpful if you explained what was on the screen and what you are doing when you keep pressing the buttons and the screen keeps changing, without any explanation as to why and what the items are that appear, especially at the top of the screen that you gloss over. There seem to be quite a few LiFePo4 battery conversions on youtube that do not include a pre-charge circuit and are reported to work fine. I'm currently sourcing batteries for my conversion and I don't want to make extra work for myself if not necessary. I'm curious if you added the pre-charge circuit because you were experiencing trouble with BMS tripping, or you simply thought it would be a good idea? Pre-charge resistors are common for inverters, but I have to wonder if the inverters might have larger capacitors leading to higher inrush currents. If nothing else, the pre-charge circuit might extend the life of the main contactor, although many contactors have a separate hardened contact intended to deal with arcing when opening or closing the contactor.

    I think this would work if you wired it like this: The generator's 120V output (hot wire) would be connected to both the L1 and L2 input terminals on the EG4 6000XP. The generator's neutral wire would be connected to the inverter/charger's neutral input terminal. The generator's ground wire would be connected to the inverter/charger's ground input terminal.

    When the inverters bypass to grid, how many watts/amps will the 6000XP's in parallel bypass. Is it a total of 50 amps per unit? If it goes over that does it disconnect from the load completely, or is that the breaker size that limits the output?

    • @theadventuresofarenaissancman
      @theadventuresofarenaissancman 2 місяці тому

      Grid input Breaker size needs to be the limiting factor. My personal opinion. 40 amps pass through plus 10 amps reserved for DC battery charging is safe. Total grid input breaker can be up to 50 amps for each inverter. The manual says 50 amps pass-through. So two 6000XPs could provide 100 amps of pass through.

    • @theadventuresofarenaissancman
      @theadventuresofarenaissancman 2 місяці тому

      I tested a single 6000xp up to 60 amps. 12,000 watts pass-through and the AC battery charging was automatically throttled by the inverter when the pass-through load exceeded 40 or 50 amps.

    • @theadventuresofarenaissancman
      @theadventuresofarenaissancman 2 місяці тому

      The internal breakers of the 6000xp are rated for 62 or 63 amps. 80% of 62 is 49.6 amps. Breakers are only designed to support 80% for continuous loads.

My biggest question is grounding the system in a mobile application with no grid tie. Is grounding to the frame fine because of wood blocks and rubber tires. Or do I need to tie the ground to a rod at every location. I’m worried times I’ll be around pavement only. Thanks again boss!!

    Did you try a jumper between L1 and L2? Some units simply need to see 120v OR, does it need to truly be a split phase 240v?

      Looks like this will be the dealbreaker of choosing two of these paralleled versus a single 18k. I need 24/7 grid as a source potential only without any selling back at all.

      @jtmg11 blending of grid and Battery at the same time...no. but when the battery SOC drops below your predetermined %. The inverter with switch over to grid. Your original question implied that you want Battery and Grid blended at the same time.

    Dude wire the neutral(white) to the neutral bus bar NOT to L2, it will work! also it will work if you get an extensions from each leg(that would be 2 extension cords) and connect them together, you will see 240v.

    I cant get my generator a 5.5 kw generac to connect to the inverter. Just show the voltage and hz on the screen of the inverter and clicks on once every five mins for 4 seconds. The 18k just does not like it. Gen has a floating neutral and floating neutral wired on the inverter and bonded neutral in the main power panel. Cycles hz and voltage is in spec. Better hope you don't have cold solder joint or any micro fractures that can lead to hot spots in your solar module cells that will cause arcing and roof fires running at such a high OC DC voltage. I've seen the results of plenty of module fires over the past 25 years.
