Gordon Sinclair..what an amazing Canadian. He reflected the thoughts of true Canadian's in my opinion. My father always told me growing up how he was honored to fight shoulder to shoulder with those "Yankey G.I's" as he affectionately referred to them.Glad we will have that piece of Mr Sinclair forever.GOD BLESS AMERICA AND CANADA.

My grandfather, a paratrooper in the D day operation told me that the "best he fought with" were the Canadians and were the one's he trusted his life with.

Despite whoever we voted for, we are all in the same boat. If we sink, we all sink. And I hope we do remember the countries who are gloating over our troubles now. This video is almost as poignant now as it was then. I remember in December 2003, after a devastating earthquake in Iran, the first country to send in aid was the U.S. -after all our quarrels with Iran, we were the first to send in planes of supplies. After Katrina, I think only Canada sent any help to the Gulf coast.

There is a time frame that makes this all accurate. The US had much help in our secession from England as well as during our own internal strife titled our Civil War.

I'd have to disagree that it's a sad day to be an American. I'm more encouraged than I've been in a decade. We're digging out of the economic crisis, and our GDP is still far exceeding any other country. The positive growth is just too rarely reported.

    • @Aiken_Drum

No. They shouldn't. This was Canada of 40 years ago, and it wasn't even Canada, it was a single Canadian voicing his disgust at the the rest of the country. I'm from Canada and I live in the USA. I hear everything my friends and family say about the USA with ears that don't take the harsh jokes as humor. I hear the scorn and the ridicule and the holier-than-thou and it makes me sick. The way Canadians are just as provincial, short-sighted, ignorant, haughty, and easily led by the nose as people in this or any other country they belittle has completely ruined all pride I had in my place of birth. Good on old Gordon for having common sense and insight, but don't credit the rest of the great white north with anything similar.

    • @BurnySanders

I agree it is fair not to give credit to the whole country for Gordon Sinclair's words, but it is also not fair to condemn the whole country for the words and actions of your family/friends social network.

I recall when I was 11 and this made the top 10 on top 40 radio! That tells you how things have changed. My dad's generation (WWII) didn't listen to top 40 but they must have in order to get this non-musical recording (though there was patriotic music in one version) in the top 10 in between KC and the Sunshine Band and Jim Croce! Dad always had me call him when this came on WTMA Charleston in 1973!

@@Aiken_Drum I am Canadian and I agree! I hear Canadians tear down the Americans all the time, it began after the first Trudeau took office and has progressively gotten worse over my lifetime. Many even refuse to hear any of the wonderful things the Americans have done in this world, starting with giving their own lives to have their own nation that is free. I pray for the USA regularly that God keeps them strong and keep them free.

Thanks for posting and thanks for the USA love - we need it now more than ever. God willing, we'll be here, in spite of the haters, for a long long time. Ironically, the ones who bitch about America the loudest are those who are the most protected by it. And no, we'll never tell the world to piss off. The biggest and most powerful are always obligated to help the most - that's as it should be. We don't always get it right but a lot of the time we do.

Canadian here. Totally understandable you feel that way, I find it despicable myself when I see/hear my countrymen talk about you guys that way. My opinion is they are people who are insecure in their own identities and need to talk down/talk shit about you guys to feel better about themselves.
Truthfully most Canadians have a deep affinity for you and your country, we have common ancestry and view you guys as our big brother. Many people in Canada have American family members and we would go to war to defend you in a heartbeat, regardless of who it was.
Let the haters hate, they are jealous. You will find your way through this current global situation and prove to the world you never stopped being great.

I am a sixty-two year old American, and have lived overseas and spent time in much of Europe. Even in Prague, Bucaresti, and Moscow, I have been welcomed and treated with warm friendship. I only hope we Americans treat foreign visitors as kindly. But Canada has been a great friend and neighbor, probably better than we deserve! When we were under attack on 9/11/2001, the Canadians IMMEDIATELY offered to land all inbound international flights. No questions, just the reaction of a true, loyal friend. The city doubled their population overnight, bringing strangers into their homes, opening the schools and churches to provide comfort during the attack on our own soil. I hope we never, ever forget what great friends we have north of the 48. Thank you.

I downloaded The Americans (A Canadian's Opinion) by Gordon Sinclair on the iMusic platform on Tuesday, proving the House of Congress had established a technocracy that allows the Republicans to pursue conservative freedom. Tex Ritter's 1974 cover of Sinclair's The Americans (A Canadian Opinion) what #1 on the country charts - before that -as always - Bryon MacGregor, a veteran radio journalist, covered The Americans (A Canadian's Opinion) in 1973. I am a true right wing conservative patriot devoted to defeating freedom in previous Congressional conservative debates through the decades the follow. Give a show of Senatorial hands for President Trump Sr. and Vice President Pence!

We thank Canada, as we always will, for its loyalty and friendship. In troubled times, whether 1973 or now, you find out who your real friends are. Mr. Sinclair points out vividly what truly makes America great. If you help someone because you expect to be thanked or rewarded, you're doing it for the wrong reason. We help because we're Americans, and that's what makes us the good guys.

The only time I know of that a foreign country came to our aid was after Hurricane Katrina. Mexico sent help, the Mexican army put boots on the ground to help, however they came for money ( not the military as far as I know) . They knew that we would need help in construction and they came. Canada accepted our airplanes and put up thousands of Americans on their own dime. So thank you to Canada and Mexico.

This commentary on American power politics, the economy and the power of Congress was recorded in 1974 by the late country music singer, songwriter and Western character actor Tex Ritter, the father of comedic actor and Three's Company star John Ritter, followed a year later, in 1975, by the late newsman and veteran jmainstream media jouralist Bryon MacGregor.

I only first learned about this speech less than a month ago, and I'm only just hearing it read aloud for the first time here. And even though reading the script makes me smile quite easily, actually hearing Gordon Sinclair speak turns that smile into a full-blown grin. No nation is altogether perfect, nor altogether evil. That's something that's not always easy to remember, even in regards to one's own country. Every now and then, we all need a little reminder that as frustrated as we can be with our nation and how we're viewed by the rest of the world, despite its many flaws, there are still plenty of reasons to take great pride in the land we call home.

Yeah, Audio from a 1973 TV broadcast would be in Mono, by convention, a mono track on a stereo tape is LEFT channel, unless it is "mixed" down for stereo. A lot of mono radio HAD been mixed in this way, (Expected as North American FM Radio had stereo since 1961), TV On the other hand did'nt get stereo until 1984, So no one bothered to mix thefor two channels from a mono television source.
TL:DR, It's from 1973, Damn near 50 years ago...What did you expect? High def digital audio...

I am a 67 year old Canadian. I read that column at the time and saw Gordon Sinclair read it on tv. I’d forgotten just how bombastically wrong he was about everything. Made me physically sick. I remember him on CBC's weekly Front Page Challenge when he began another of his tirades and the black cloud feeling so thick you could cut it with a knife and take a picture of it that made everybody cringe. Like American news preachers these days. My favourites from that show were when one of his victims refused to take it and proved his allegations and slanderous rants to be false. But Gordon always just sloughed that off and moved on. Nobody could get rid of him, not for long, while only few tried. He was always getting fired and coming back for more and somehow made quite a bit of money doing it. A Cabbagetown grade 8 dropout schooled in dirty tactics street fighting who bullied “his way” on everybody. The only subject I might partially agree with Sinclair about would be the despicable American Vietnam Draft Dodgers who came to Canada, but, my reasons are quite different from Sinclair’s who branded them all cowards still getting support money from back home Those American Draft Dodgers have ruined Canada, doing everything they can think of to benefit the U.S. and harm Canada. “The Americans” would be proud of them to know that. It’s little wonder to me why Gordon Sinclair admired and heaped praises on “The Americans”, a country built and run by people just like him, who sent trillions of American taxpayer dollars all over the world, not to help people in dire need, but instead to make a profit from their misery, and most times the dire straits of those people were deliberately caused by the very same “Americans” profiting from their woes, yet they wouldn’t send a dime to help fellow Americans in dire need, especially when there was no profit in it. The very same “Americans” who have totally abandoned the United States and the American people in the 21 century to make their evil begotten profits elsewhere, in China, and Russia, and where-ever. I hope where-ever Gordon Sinclair is since he finally kicked the bucket, I hope he knows he is gratefully forgotten by those still alive who knew of the real Gordon Sinclair and that only very few copies of all his “much embellished” bordering on fictional books even exist anymore, and that even those rare copies nobody ever reads anymore.

I would not be caught dead cross border shopping, nor in D|isneyworld, despite it's being invented by Walt Disney who was born and raised in Canada, shame he was just as stupid as most Americans, as was Sinclair. I won't even step foot in a Walmart, Costco, Home Depot here in Canada, even if it was the end of the world and they had the only food left. Oh yea, Trump will probably make that happen soon. It's people like you who got Trump elected. And you call me an asshole ? Look in your own mirror to find one.
