So nice just sit and lissening when you do this. I was in to some other but then i heard you and now i cant stop lissening to you. Wery well done and you rock😃
Just so Amazin especially the sweet parts (less blue interpretation..) ie.Prettier. Will spend much time getting the whole story..So Much in just this one video !!!!
The amount of sheer joy Jason displayed when talking and playing this major scale was mesmerizing; i have never seen him smile and laugh so much when he is teaching; major pentatonic, the HAPPY scale, anyone? :)
That smile and enthusiasm for his fellows is what sets him... different from others. I know his heart is for real. Not better or worse. I love Will Wilde and Roly Platt, but I feel like I know Jason. He's one of "us". How fortunate you are to have and know such a friend.
Just beginning harp and understanding why 4th tone of the song key tranposes to the harp key, for blues (dom. 7), it's cool to hear how you're getting the pretty pentatonic sound by transposing harp to the 5th of the song key. I imagine this is a deep rabbit hole. Top on my agenda will be learning how you do those gypsy minor scales on a diatonic major harp. Played that vid last night for gf and she went wild.
Top harmonica players of all time that I've ever heard ... Paul Butterfield , corky seagel , James cotton , junior wells and you .. now I know there's many more but this is my top players ... You can't deny will Wylde either ... Will's a beast ... Oh yeah there's sugar blue and Steven guyger too ... I met guyger Twice at two shows ... Love Stevens voice ... He's from Philly ... A legend lol ...
Kirk here mystroe ... Your exactly right ... since I've been concentrating on one or two holes at a time I'm really getting good on the root note , the two draw ... And my rythm as improved two fold ... I love the blues but being from west Virginia it's all blue grass and country music up here in the mountain state .... That major pennatonic scale is the best for our music up here ... Rock on !!!
Hey big Jay , Kirk from west Virginia ... I've made big stride's in just a month working on my triplet notes with the Metrodome and playing on that major pennatonic scale ... I've been going back and forth from country too blues ... I've been working on one of Paul lassy's country songs .. I can play the notes but now I'm starting to break out with rythm .... Thank you man for your great videos ... Your the best ... And your right , Pat Ramsey was great !!!!
Hey chief Kirk from west Virginia ... I'm speeding up on my double and triple notes .... Workenn with that Metrodome ... I try to play with you on that country and r and b tracks ... I'm really concentrating on how you play those double and triple notes ...
Hey man thanks for sending me that city country city backing track ... That's a great riff Lee came up with ... Like I said I talked to him a year ago on the phone .... We talked for a half an hour I couldn't believe I was actually talking to him ... I can play the riff fairly well but the sound track you sent me anables me to pick up the dirt he puts in here and there ... Thank you ...
I want to make this baby sing like you are demonstrating; I can only marvel and envy at your amazing skills and talent. You are the man in my book bruh.
You is one charismatic muddy funster. I love your style of teaching man. Thank you. An hour of you every day sends ripples through my learning process. I've even started playing my only C harp again which i had ditched because it was a 10 buck big river harp an old girl friend bought me years ago when i started thinking about learning. I've since got my hands on loads of more expensive harps in other keys but as I've progressed I can even make the cheap one sound good. (well sort of)...
I find these videos so relaxing to watch. Makes me feel great knowing I can make it through the day, come home and stick a Jason ricci video on and make some noise with my harp!
Hey big Kirk here from the mountain state ... Since I've been playing country music on the major pennatonic I decided to try blue grass on backing tracks ... I guess being from the mountains my rythm seems much more natura and easy l to this type of music ... I'm playing the major pennatonic with it but I'm also playing the four draw half steep bend in there too ... I can definitely here the blues in there along with country ... Chords seem to come easy with blue grass too ... When I hit that four draw half step and then go into the g chord I hear my man Dylan hitting that long lonsome train sound ... I love it but it's also very erie ... after awhile gotta stop playing it ... It definitely wears on me ... Very soulful but then you have to leave it for awhile ... Also hear a lot of gospel in there too ... Bill Monroe was a genius ... Bob wills too ....lol !!!!
Sorry for the misspelled words ... I've been watching your shows too ... Your really good and your becoming a great teacher too ... Must have been a trip playing with Johnny winter's ... Johnny was the best ... Texas blues and rock and roll ... Yeah man !!!!!
Fabulous lesson !!! Wow, so much in this amazing scale…. Always loved your PRETTY PLAYING …. Always so so beautiful…. Now i get a glimpse of the work it takes to get there…. Thank you Jason !
I've been trying to work out how i progress to a different genre other than Blues (still love Blues the best) and you showed me how with this scale, just like that! Can't thank you enough Jason, Rock on!
Hey J R koik again from wv... I saw Dylan up here in Charleston back in November and he did that great song he wrote what was it you wanted ... It's a great huanting song ... Lyrics are great and the music is second to none ... You can really play those huanting harmonica notes with it , with feeling ... Dylan is still spot on he plays that mean harmonica solo in key of D it's really good ... Love the way Willie and Mickey do it ... It's a song with great feeling .... Love Dylan ....
Amazing l, the way you teach is unparalleled, you can see the transformation of the lesson as you talk and play, the joy that builds in you as the lessons progresses is inspiring. Thank you for being a big part in laying the path.
Such a useful, helpful, insightful lesson. Thank you Jason. Vids like this is why it's such a pleasure to be able to support you (in the tiniest way possible). Forgive me if this comment sounds self-serving by saying that, it is absolutely not my intention. I view it as the honor being mine to be able to be a part (no matter how small) of the (hands down) best harmonica instruction videos on the web!
world class lesson, you always get my out of my natural dirty blues playing and make me fall in love with playing pretty again, thank you from New Zealand mooncat
Most modern day user friendly harmonica lessons I've ever watched. You are an impressive showman, Jason. It was a great experience making your virtual acquaintance. Rock on.
So helpful. I’ve been shying away from scales for years, just trying to blag it. You’ve shown me the why and the how. And it’s always rocking. Couldn’t ask for more. You shine as much as a teacher as you do a player. Thank you.
Brother Jason, I'm three years late but, I'm really glad I showed up... I was looking at my notes (figuring I need to work on my minor pent. 2nd position) and stumbled onto my notes of Major pent 2nd position - got some brutal DejaVu. Found my way here... And brother, I gotta thank you. That intro... The lesson 🙏 Really plucked at the soul on this one. Feeling at ease 😺 Enjoy your weekend brother... Already feeling better about mine 👊
Thank you Mr. Ricci... Your videos always have so much excellent information, I have to come back to them when I'm ready to absorb more.. (I'm an exceedingly slow learner on harmonica). That said, once in awhile, a light bulb goes off in my head as my understanding improves. Once again, thank you for all the information. Now I just need to learn how to execute.
Thank you so much Jason! Im an old man just got my first harmonica a couple of months ago and I really just want to play the sweeter stuff! along with a couple of mates, we play guitar and sing a bit just for our own amusement and the odd open mic night here in the UK ,so this lesson is just what I wanted ! you are a great teacher your joy at playing is infectious, thanks again.!
Thank you so much Jason. The other day I was noodling around over Tennessee Whiskey by Chris Stapleton with my D harp because it is in A. I realised I was using loads of 2d, 3d, 4d and 6b but occasionally accidentally hit the 5b and it was fine. I did also use the 4b but it broke my flow and now I know why. And now I also know I was missing that beautiful 3d full step bend. Tada, we're now good to go back to it.
This is a revelation and I've been playing blues forever. But would always sit out on the My Girl vibes. THANKS!!!! And you look and sound SO HAPPY!!! Its Xmas Eve and I hope your life is in the best place EVER!!
Hey Jason big g from west Virginia ... I've really been concentrating for fifteen minutes a day with the metronome working on my eighth and triplet notes at 60 bmp with the major pentatonic scale ... Then I go into that r and b backing track with the major and I must say I'm getting good on it .... The country track though really gets me going .... I spent two hours on both tracks last nite and just got done with the r and b track Tonite for an hour .... I'll be on that country one for an hour tonight I'm sure .... Anywho thank you again for breaking down a huge wall for me in teaching the major Penn ...
Thank you Kirk! WV is a place close to my heart and it makes me happy to hear that this scale and others and music in general is seeping in! The major pent scakle among others, but especially that one is such a BIG part of Appalachian music! Thanks for sticking with me and writing back!
@@jasonricci thanks ... Now that I'm getting settled in with the major I'm starting to feel more comfortable bleeding dirt into it .... I've always been a lip purser and that's what I'm doing now ... I can tongue block I just don't but I know in the long run I've got to do it ....
This scale in UNIVERSAL and is known in every culture. It's a five (penta) note scale that can take you to heaven and sooth your soul. It is so beautiful!!! It's simplicity can create such complex emotions in both the player and the listener. I love it and use it all the time. It is great to see we have the same taste in backing tracks Moon Cat. Nice choices. Today I went through this a little before work as well. I found myself suddenly playing a song that I hadn't heard in decades with the country backing track. I found myself picking up riffs from a Clint Black song called, "State Of Mind" - from 1993! This tune has a decent little harp intro too. Thank you so much for this lesson! Anyone viewing this great lesson, please consider pitching in on Jason's Patreon. Sending peace and love Bruthaaaa!!!
Hey J R , Kirk from the mountain state of west Virginia saying hello ... hope your doing great down in Orleans ... Yeah I'm really getting good on that major pennatonic scale with country music ... I've really got it into my muscle memory which is allowing me to concentrate on my rythm and vabrato ... I'm playing the whole scale from first to third position but t your right less notes is more ... I'm really hanging out on the two draw and three draw whole step ... Your videos have really helped me to break down walls ... Your a great teacher and owe by the way you just happen to be the best player in the world ... Love ya man rock on your the best 💪
Got ya ... Yeah I really like the way Willie Nelson and Micky raffel do Dylan's what was it you wanted ... Micky's harmonica playing is haunting ... when I saw Dylan do it back in November he was spot on , on the harp ... Key of D first position .. you could tear it up , lol !!!!
Damn, this is helpful. Been playing for many years and this still blew my mind with its clarity and insight. Beautiful, humbling, and again, sooooo helpful. Thanks, Jason.
Hey big Jay Kirk from west Virginia comming at ya ... Yeah I've really dedicated that major pennatonic scale to my playing ... I've really been concentrating on country and blue grass playing with the backing tracks ... I'm just playing in the keys of g and a ... That key of a sounds great with fiddles .. I love it ... Anywho hope your doing well ... I know your always giging in the big easy every weekend ... God bless you your the best ... I do need to tongue block more ... I naturally just want to play lip purse ... Anyway love ya man your the best ...
Thanks for the great reply ... I'll be heading up and playing within an hour ... I've been experiencing playing the four blow on the country music tracks and I've noticed it works but only if I go back down too holes three , two or one ... Not so .much if I go up to five or six ... I'll probably just stay away from the four blow even though it sounds good at times .... Still love the sound of the fiddles with the key of D harp seems like those two were meant to be ... It's great when you get a Grove going with them ....
Hey Jason Kirk from west Virginia ... It's been three weeks now since I've been working on the major pentatonic scale and I'm getting better by the day especially with the backing tracks .... Country seems to be my genre course I love the blues too ... I'm working with that Metrodome every day on those double and triplet notes .... Wish I discovered the major five years ago ... Can't believe I wasted all that time just noodling around , oh well ... Hope everything is ok with you .... Your the best !!!!!
Jason! This is the best lesson I've seen out of you, hands down! I remember years ago ending up a little confused, but you've slowed it down tremendously and really seem to have a teacher's heart. I absolutely love it man. You're killing it. I'm just so proud of you and can really see that your commitment to these lessons, your patrons, your sobriety, and so forth are really paying off. Great work!
"Comin' over on the Mayflower sound"... love it. Lol . You are really putting love and soul into every you tube lesson this year. Thank you very much. Patreon vlogs are great too.
This shows so many possibilities I was looking for, pretty music and how the scales can be adapted to different styles. I always wondered if YOU ever played pretty music!! I like it!!
jason i was wondering if you could do a video on country style music in first oisition ive noticed there is none on youtube! i love first position but would love new lick ideas ! thank you !-illinios
Hey Jason hate to keep rerreterinig on what I've been sayenn but I've been playing a country backing track in g 130 beats per minute and all I'm playing is the two draw two blow , three draw and three draw whole step and it really sounds good .. I'm not playing any other notes in the major penn just these four notes and my rythm , tone are improving by the day ... Biggest thing is my self confidence and happiness in playing the harp is really starting to kick in ... I always said I need someone to teach me the short cuts and that's what you've done for me ... Glad to see your tourings picking up with a lot of new shows ... It'll be spring before you know it and then the outdoor season starts yeah man alot of outdoor blues festivals will be kicking off up here come may ... I met Steven gugyer four years ago we talked for bout five minutes ... love to meet mark wenner next he's always playing somewhere up here .... Lol ... Rock on bro your the best in the world !!!!
I'm a big fan of Jason the musician, and now even of Jason the teacher! I'm a beginner and it's an honor to be able to listen to your lessons...the road is hard....but pretty nice with your tips!! Stay safe and... greetings from Italy!
I am looking forward this one, as it is something I have been working on with my teacher for a while. It has got me playing different styles of music and opened my ears to the possibilities of playing harp in more than blues bands :)
Muchas gracias...algo más he aprendido...from Chile

Not so .much if I go up to five or six ... I'll probably just stay away from the four blow even though it sounds good at times .... Still love the sound of the fiddles with the key of D harp seems like those two were meant to be ... It's great when you get a Grove going with them ....
That guitarist that Steven guyger has he plays that three thirty five he's unbelievable ... They've been together for years ...
Podobało mi się, dzięki
Hey Jason Kirk from west Virginia ... It's been three weeks now since I've been working on the major pentatonic scale and I'm getting better by the day especially with the backing tracks .... Country seems to be my genre course I love the blues too ... I'm working with that Metrodome every day on those double and triplet notes .... Wish I discovered the major five years ago ... Can't believe I wasted all that time just noodling around , oh well ... Hope everything is ok with you .... Your the best !!!!!
That is awesome!!!
Un lujo, magistral clase, para repasar muchas veces y no perderse nada. Muchas gracias y felicitaciones por el canal.
Gracias!!!
I gotta say. You sure do give your very best. Learned so much from you. Many thanks 👋😎🎵

Thank you:)
Fantastically useful! Thank you Jason👍
Great work!
Yup! Rock it brother!!!👍😎
I'm stealing everything you've played on this video.
This is a really valuable lesson, Thx J!!!
Great lesson, thanks! Positive major vibes here, keep 'em coming!!🎶🤘🎵
Hermosa escala! Saludos desde Argentina🇦🇷
Great lesson. I've been looking for ways to incorporate some Cajun flavor to my playing. Love Nobody's Fault But Mine.
"Comin' over on the Mayflower sound"... love it. Lol . You are really putting love and soul into every you tube lesson this year. Thank you very much. Patreon vlogs are great too.

Great great stuff again. Thank you, Jason!
This shows so many possibilities I was looking for, pretty music and how the scales can be adapted to different styles. I always wondered if YOU ever played pretty music!! I like it!!
Usually one or two on every record Ive made! Check out Sonja, Going To California, Sweet Loving with My Baby etc! Thanks Herb!
@@jasonricci , Sonja is FABULOUS ! WOWOWOWOWOW

jason i was wondering if you could do a video on country style music in first oisition ive noticed there is none on youtube! i love first position but would love new lick ideas ! thank you !-illinios
Sorry guyger ...

@@lorenzadenardin7531 sicuramente!
I am looking forward this one, as it is something I have been working on with my teacher for a while. It has got me playing different styles of music and opened my ears to the possibilities of playing harp in more than blues bands :)
ALRIGHT!!! Thats so it already!
As the saying goes- you are the cat's meow! Thanks for all your you tubes. You are boss.
