I sincerely think this is one of the most important lessons I've heard anyone give. As you said, it's basic, but so important. Learning a song is great. Understanding how to play music, though, isn't the same thing.

I watched this lesson last night, then did a good hour's practice following what you said in the lesson re starting with the root note and following the 12 bar structure. Have actually tried it with a few extra jam tracks I found on Spotify as well. Have done some more work on this tonight. Just wanna say thanks for this awesome lesson, it's made such a huge difference already. As well as being beneficial musically, I find that exercise of just starting off playing the root note and following the 12 bar structure very relaxing. I get caught up feeling the music and everything else just melts away. Thank you!!!

Well it's been almost four months since I've been following your teaching , just taking two to tree notes and and stick restricted with them and play them out ... Now after almost four months not only as my rythm gotten better but my tone , my bends and chord's .... I knew if you said do it that way I knew it was the way to go .... Like I said before anybody can play a note but how can you play that note along with other notes to produce expression a language if you will ... Your method teaches you that if you have the patience to stick with it you can be a excellent harp player .... Now I'm putting alot of chord's in with single notes and I've gotten so much better .... Thank you your the greatest .... Still think you and Will Wylde should cut an album together .... Will call it the bad ass boys .... You two will sing and duel back and forth .... Will get Joe Perry to play lead guitar ... Will get Howard Levey to play on a couple of songs .... Of course I'll be producing and arranging all the songs .... I keep hearing about this Charlie Muscle white , is he any good ???? Will audition him and see if he can cut the mustard .... Throw in some dirt and chord's and you can be a pro if you just stay in that structure ... As always it's all about the rythm ... Great lesson coach ....
When I have taught bass - or in the unfortunate instance wherein Im working with a guitarist that doesn't get "funk". I always say the same shit "Funk is more about the notes you DONT play, then the ones you do." But at the end of the day - its really about taste. Good players have good taste. This is true of any art form - except actors and their taste in music - I worked in theater for years - and theater actors tend to have really corny taste in music . And Ill be honest with you - I didnt think you could teach "taste" until I saw this lesson - granted - one could argue you are teaching phrasing - also true - and giving cats a deeper understanding of the blues aesthetic - but on this whole other level you are teaching cats how to make better more musical choices - AKA - better taste. BRAVO!!! (I sent one of your videos to a mentor of mine - in improv comedy - David Razowsky - hes kind of the Jason Ricci of Improv. He travles the world teaching people how to be present and aware through the process of improv comedy - which in his philosophy is ALSO the product. when you cant play alone, you cant really start the band doing what you want either! This is my main problem being an improvisational player. the only song i know is red river valley. and i ALMOST have the solo on long train running

Hello. Thanks for this lesson. I was with you from 1.00-1.30, but when you said you were changing the rhythm did you play those say notes in same order but faster within the beat? Hope my question makes sense? If not can you explain a bit more. Thanks Jason!
Sure! It just means giving notes different rhythmic values. Like holding one longer or shorter. 💜
when you cant play alone, you cant really start the band doing what you want either! This is my main problem being an improvisational player. the only song i know is red river valley. and i ALMOST have the solo on long train running
