My buddy who drums pointed out that while the playing is accurate the volume at which hes playing is the part thats unrealistic and that dudes gotta be using triggers to achieve that audio volume however he still has to be able to play that fast to get those notes to be produced for the triggers to work so....
triggers is nothing close to anything resembling cheating or faking though. i think it’s pretty clear that the video is sped up

I like infant annihilator personally however I'm also fully aware from listening to them and from programming my own drums that it would be pretty impossible to play at that speed with that volume consistency. Iv done my own guitar production for nearly 20 years and I'm pretty damn sure that isn't the actual audio it's too perfect and usually when things seem fake they are.

If I understood correctly ElEstepario mentioned singles completely in different section of the video and different kick speeds than you are referring to as impossible. I think his excitement was dictated purely by speed no matter if this crazy machinegun was achieved by doubles at this particular moment in the video (and you have to admit that speed, no matter if it were doubles, is impressive and definitely not achievable by anyone). He never said that this guy is playing singles all the time or that he was playing singles at this particular moment. He mentioned that he was playing singles at the previous part which was slower.
In my opinion, you extrapolated one statement to the whole video and you based this material on this (IMO wrong) extrapolation.
He literally said, word for word “this motherfucker plays singles”. Not “he’s playing singles here in this section” or anything like that. When someone says “[he] plays singles” that’s not referencing any particular time, even in how it’s being said ‘future tense’ or ‘past tense’ etc. If I said “he (meaning you) fucks cats” whoever I’m telling would naturally infer that this means you do this all the time, not just in the moment I’m talking about it. So, no you actually don’t understand correctly. Maybe sort that out.

After scouring the internet for two days I found a video of Aaron saying that this song (and the rest of this album) was recorded not programmed. He used an electric kit with superior drummer for the tones and the velocity maxed. It’s not humanly impossible. This guy is just hating because he can’t do it. And why should we believe Aaron? Because he freely admits to programming the drums on their most recent album to save time. What motivation would he have for lying about something that he also acknowledges using at other times?
IA is not the first band to use programmed drums either. Some of these examples may shock you but they all used program drums on different albums. Meshuggah, Devin Townsend, Necrophagist, Animals As Leaders, Black Sabbath, Buckethead and The Faceless.

@@Leksi_Lagoon first the video does not prove he can’t play it. There is video of me playing a song live very poorly and videos of me playing the same song almost perfectly. One video isn’t enough to prove he can’t do it.
Now let’s talk about the video. I have several questions. First what frame rate was this video recorded at? Depending on the frame rate no amount of slowing it down will ever give you an accurate picture of what’s happening. Milliseconds of time are missing from every second and a lot could be happening in that time. It looks to me to be filmed in 1080 at best. Slowing this down on UA-cam also brings up some issues with accuracy of what you’re seeing.
Next I notice that no one ever criticizes his hands (what do you think of his hands, is he accurate and executing extremely challenging passages?), only his feet. As a drummer can you tell me if he was using a double pedal would his playing in this video result in the kicks we hear? If he usually plays with a double pedal (as he does) but didn’t have one for the video could that explain what you’re seeing? If he had a double pedal would his timing result in the correct amount of hits? If you’re not sure then everything you’re saying is just speculation. I would guess that the fact that he usually uses a double pedal but didn’t have one in this video explains a lot.
Lastly I want you to know that many other drummers have said that when they slow it down they see every hit and that you guys are just wrong. Who should I believe and why?

The part where you say he is playing in unison (16:19) goes at around 220 BPM. And he is playing triplets, and then goes to sextuplets. Triplets at 220 BPM is 660 notes per minute or 11 notes per second. Sextuplets at 220 BPM is the same equation multiplied by 2, so 22 notes per second. The camera used to record the video probably runs at 24 frames per second, considering how old the video is. Even if the camera is better the video is still only presented at 30 frames per second on UA-cam. I don't think anyone can realistically use pure visual observation as a valid argument in this case.
So what you’re insinuating that makes more sense is that a PERSON, like a human being, is physically capable of making 22 individual finite movements PER SECOND…with their legs/feet…you maybe want to rethink that theory and try again from scratch? Cuz that’s literally one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard anyone say…and I grew up in Boston, Massachusetts, where everyone is stupid and they sound stupid being stupid.

To be fair, later in the video he says it's not possible to do that without triggers, mentioning the rimshots in the snare and so on. So I don't think he is that stupid to think it's all real. Maybe he just didn't realise it was a programmed track.

I was skeptical of Aaron's video since the first time I saw it. The rabbit hole of IA "faking" things isn't very deep; they make rediculous sounding records with the highest possible production value. They don't try to convince people everything they do is real, and my conclusion is it's called a "play-through", the fact he could even fake that speed & precision is incredible to me. I love listening to their instrumentals, they really push the boundary of making impossible to play music sound human
This reaction video just showed up in my newsfeed and to be fair, there are people that are way too respectful with other artists and there are really brave enough ones to critique with pure honesty. It's also good to see the other side of things.

El Estepario discusses how he's using double-hit pedals, which makes the speed much more obtainable, and he also crushes the bad take that people subscribe to which is that pro drummers shouldn't use triggers like Aaron does. That solves the consistency aspect and allows him to focus on the composition as a whole, which is by itself incredible not to mention _demonstrably_ skillfully laid-out by Aaron even in that video ..and even if he had to have multiple takes to show it all. I think folks would be much much madder at bands like Polyphia who very much do similar techniques if the common sentiment was yours, just sayin🤷♀
1. Yes, the drums on all IA albums are programmed. It’s super obvious.
2. The video of Aaron playing on the little 5 piece was still insane being that he could play those parts on a kit he wasn’t used to/comfortable with and the power seemed to be there but the video was recorded on a fucking potato.
3. Aaron has been an amazing metal drummer for as long as I can remember even before Infant Annihilator, just because those record literally REQUIRE drum programming doesn’t take away from the fact that he can still rip that shit
I think El Este is one of the best drummers out there. Although sometimes his fills go over the time he's trying to squeeze into the part he's trying to play. But I agree with you on this Arron video. If you watch the actual video, you can see a difference of the "life span" of the fog he's breathing out when comparing slower sections verses the lightning parts

In the end, it’s all art and he is fast as hell even if they use technology, I have an anolog synth that I use to play live by my floor Tom to accent my keyboard player. It’s all good people, it’s exciting, it’s novel, pushing the envelope is what artists do.

We can debate what's real or not. But it sounds good. Yet everyone needs to go around pointing everything out like it's really necessary to care. At the end of the day no one is really bothered by it either way except for maybe other musicians who aren't getting nearly as much exposure.

You say how to focus on the bass drum but you don't put it on the big screen. Why?
I thought everyone knew the song was done with a drum machine. It certainly sounds like it was! Even drum channels like Marthyn Jovanovich and 66Samus talked about this probably years ago and already said all the same stuff. Aaron is a fast drummer, much better than 90% of other drummers, but the drums clearly sound trigged af. Even if he was playing with trigged/electric drums instead of a drum program, the trigged drums are the reason why the hits sound so hard and so clear. He's obviously not hitting that hard. In my opinion it doesn't even sound good when everything sounds like a drum machine.
Marthyn also pointed out that he doesn't play as precisely in real life (he was able to find some clips) and that also shouldn't come as a surprise. The double bass in the song is so absurdly fast it shouldn't surprise anyone that in real life he doesn't play like that. I'll take another example. When Dimmu Borgir plays the song "Chosen legacy" live, they simplify the double bass because its pretty absurdly fast on the actual record -- and that record was not even programmed but played in the studio, its just very hard to pull off cleanly live.

It's interesting that you clear out that Aaron wasn't playing live and that the video is edited; though, this story sort of reminds me of Buckethead having access to a bootleg audio from Shawn Lane who had recorded a piece with different layers of edited guitar takes: Buckethead didn't know that, but tried as hard as possible to replicate the sound and came up with his 4-finger technique. My point is that even a lie, an edited video/audio can inspire a lotta people to achieve greater. It doesn't stop being a lie, but it inspire.
It's triggers. Alot of drummers in these extreme music groups use triggers to get speed. They are still playing the beat they just aren't hitting it that hard. It's just like playing a e kit.
Look at minute 3:11-3:12 of the drum only video, you hear the final two strokes played with the snare and the left china but in the video ha plays only the snare with his right hand. Fake, you’re right. Also hearing the double bass sounds there is one sample slightly different from the others that repeats sometimes, you hear it and this means that it has been recorded with a triggered drum machine for sure.

Maybe the reason for Estepario having reached this point of technical godliness is because he keeps measuring himself with this programmed drum computer bullcrap. Not the worst outcome if you ask me.
Cool video, its nice to you give some people a reality check on whats possible, but in fairness to Aaron Kitcher, there are some things I want to let you in on that might change your perspective.
1. Blast beat section at the start of the song is quantized, but with how Aaron plays, its possible to get higher volume blast beats. He's specified this in interviews and lives that he doesn't play with a lot of fingers and wrist. The blast section at the begin is quite short so he doesn't need stamina of finger and wrist to get through it. He's stuck with his way of playing long enough that it works for him. Also, he's not playing the song like he would live, he's doing a playthrough. His method wont work for a setlist but he isn't playing a setlist, he's playing one song.
2. Its very possible to play the long bass drum runs at the start of this song with singles. The song is at 260bpm and plently of drummers have capped that with singles (Kevin from benighted, Eugene from fleshgod apocalypse, and beldun who has covers of infant annihilator using only singles) You won't trigger level volume with those hits but above 260 bpm, its extremely hard to get definable hits.
3. The video is a joke that people took seriously. Like his decapitation fornication playthrough, both videos are meant to look fake, one just has better production than the other. The band has never tried to pass it off as real but people who don't play drums won't know that. Aaron has explained that playing serious, he stops using standard ankle motion after 220bpm. He either switches to swivel or heel toe.
4.If you want to find videos of Aaron playing infant annihilator material, you can find it. There are many videos of him playing songs like pelt of innocent flesh, or a video of him in instagram where he plays 340bpm double strokes.
5. A lot of this video is boiled down to Aaron sampling and replacing actual drums on a drum kit with louder samples, but that doesn't invalidate the fact you have to be able play the song to mime it. Yes it's unrealistic to get the loud hits he does on this video, but that because the drums on the video are just the actual drums on the song slightly turned up.
From one drummer to another, hope this helps clarify some things and give you a new perspective on Aaron, cuz he really is such a good drummer. Have a good day and ta-ta

Mike Machine Maillet is actually the fastest drummer by world record for feet. 3x over. 1 min record, 5 min record and the endurance 10 or 15 min record, i forget how long it is rn. he's a youtuber too if you don't believe me. he has the WFD record. other ppl say they can beat him but they've never officially done it at a contest yet. He's held this record for over a decade now. He plays axis longboards, but he's now sponsored by Yamaha so i think he's using Dragons for his gigs now. he doesn't do double strokes. all singles.
What is really funny is that he's starting to play the game he "hates." Look at his other video's views. This is all he has at this point. Which is pretty sad. I get where you come from, you are offended by the fact that metal drums should be authentic etc. i do too.
Some bands are just studio bands and great bands are even better live.
For me as just a metal head the editing is obvious and despite being enhanced the creativity is great and it sounds clean and good that’s what matters in a video clip.
Lately i was blown away by Slaughter to Prevail, they are so good their music videos are edited from live sets😂

He wasn't playing with that power in the clinic video, but why is that a point? Wasn't triggers supposed to fil this gap? I'm not saying that I agree that the official playthrough is real, neither that the clinic is perfectly on time, but your argument about the drum clinic doesn't add anything. You didn't speak of his speed neither his stamina, you said about power. We all know in 2024 that music like this uses triggers. Maybe at the clinic he just doesn't had it.
Unpopular opinion it may be but I have been a musician for over 40 years and I think it should be called out as faked and absolutely impossible, it's harmful otherwise. The only other person I've seen call it out as faked is Craig Reynolds of The Downbeat Podcast. So I just want to say thank you, nice one for that
