    There are 3 major timeline events in Hollowknight that prove Silksong is going to be a sequel 1. Establishing the fact the Herrah and the "spider tribe" were in Hallownest before it became Hallownest and before the Pale King came along. We know this is the case for 2 reasons
    1. Every other "bug tribe" (IE the mushrooms, the moss kin, the mantises) Has a lore tablet explaining their reactions to the Pale Kings rule/arrival and thoughts any neighboring tribes. 2. Herrah and the bugs of Deepnest reaction to the Pale King initially was hostility, to the point of attacking the work force that tried to build the tram way into Deepnest. Showing that indeed she and the spiders were in Deepnest before the Pale King came along.
    2. All though we don't know exactly when the Weavers came to Hallownest. We know it was some time after the kingdom was established but sometime before Hornet was born. We know this because of the dead Weaver dream nail dialogue that states that they were aware of the bargain Herrah made with the Pale King, and the Weavers were there for her birth (because the seal of binding in the Weavers den was likely made for Hornet's birth)
    3. We know from Ellina and Midwife that the remaining Weavers recently left for Pharloom more or less right before we start the game or right at the start of the game.
    So if Silksong is a prequel. How can Hornet have cool fun wacky adventures with the Weavers in Pharloom if she was not even born then and was not born until after the Weavers came to Hallownest? and when the Weavers did not leave Hallownest until the start of the game?

    • @captainfordo556

      Yeah, and to get around the Sealed Siblings ending, we have the Seal Breaking Bugs that were seen in Silksong's intro. They might be able to break the seal on the Black Egg

    • @earthboundkid1
      @earthboundkid1 2 роки тому +8

      @@captainfordo556 Yup. If the bell cult have access to powerful enough magic to trap Hornet (who is a demi god) in a cage. They likely break into the Black Egg with magic too. Also in every ending except for Passing of the Age (which is a joke ending) and arguably the Hollowknight ending (depending on how you get it, mainly if you can miss Hornet going into the City of Tears and can miss her at the fountain in City of Tears. The last time you see her is in Green Path running away in weakened state).
      Hornet is left in a weakened state in some way shape or form: You knocked her out in Sealed Siblings, She got weekend from the Black Egg's bindings in Dream no More, She likely gets weakened from fighting the un-infected Hollowknight (or maybe worse the shade lord??? but probably not) in both Embrace the Void endings.
      I think this is Team Cherry's subtle way of telling us that Silksong is a Sequel in the timeline sense.

    1:21:00 My guesses were either Quirrel improving his nail (how common are the Nailsmith's services in his travels, really?) or, since it's implied there are multiple nails in question ("another nail" to be honed), it could be Lemm looking not to upgrade, but to restore old/historically relevant nails for his collection. They're kind of littered everywhere; he may even be asking the Nailsmith for his expertise in differentiating common nails from less common ones.
    * Or I suppose Sly is shown to have a shitload of them he keeps on display, it might just be regular maintenance since he isn't really using them often.

  • @cmchristensen

    Ok, lore noob here with a theory to chew on. I think it's feasible that Dryya was running around in the game, and the knight makes it to her just a bit too late. She wields a nail, and would likely regularly visit the nailsmith for repairs. When we first encounter her, there are still corpses lying around...the battle may have been very recent.

      Super late reply, but The reason she died might be because when the knight kills a dreamer, the radiance gets stronger, which could have strengthened the traitor mantises in Queens gardens, overpowering her.

    What if to kill a steel assassin you’d have to stab their armor. This could kinda individualize hornet’s needle since it’s longer like a spear. Plus the Knight’s always slashed sideways. Maybe hornet could get a special move akin to the nail arts that lets her puncture the steel.

    Here’s my take on the whole foresight thing.
    I believe that the PK probably had multiple instances of foresight and that the one with the Knight probably came after he locked away the Hollow Knight. My reason for this is because of the way he chose to address the infection initially, and how they reveal his expectations of a fixed kingdom. For one, the choice of Herrah as a dreamer is way too much of a political move to assume the PK didn’t have the expansion/connections of the kingdoms in mind-which means he had the expectation that the Hollow Knight plan would work, and that there was a future to live for. The other two dreamers make sense for the devotion to the kingdom, but I can’t think of any reason why the PK would ask Herrah if he didn’t have political intentions in mind. Presuming that the rejection/building of the upper tramline in Deepnest occurred before the Hollow Knight was sealed away, the PK would have no chance to expand his kingdom without weakening them (removing their ruler) or finding some means of diplomacy. At that point he recognizes that Herrah is backed into a corner-she isn’t of royal blood, so her rule may be questioned by some-and the infection will reach Deepnest whether she likes it or not. The situation allows him to put pressure on her to agree, after all, his kingdom is already sacrificing two citizens for the cause. Of course, Herrah is sharp and no doubt realizes this, which is why she asks for a child. Whether or not the PK foresaw Hornet, it is a win-win for him, as it will help give him some political claim to Deepnest. This seems a strange choice if he saw the future all the way through to the Knight, which leads me to my second point…
    The PK keeps the fact that there are other vessels a complete secret from basically everyone. Not even Ogrim knows that there was more than one (he realizes the truth when you speak with him later), which is a good idea about the level of secrecy and shame the PK felt about the whole thing. It is obvious that at some point he foresaw that a new vessel would emerge and prepared a way to help him (seeing as the Queen and Hornet both have some knowledge of the situation), however, the fact that not even the knights know of the other vessels-rather than being told so they might aid them in their quest-seems to be a deliberate act by the PK to keep knowledge of the vessels only to the people who would have some knowledge about their true numbers in the first place. His shame that he had bound three people in useless slumber, and possibly the slight terror of one of his discarded children coming to see him, was enough for him to go about the whole situation in absolute secrecy. It isn’t a logical decision by any means, but an emotional one that makes sense when you see him even going to the length of covering up the entrance to the nursery in the White Palace. For those reasons, I think that he had multiple instances of foresight in limited amounts that changed as events unfolded, rather than one long vision. If this weren't the case I'm not sure if he would have made the mistake of the Hollow Knight in the first place, or why he would have felt the level of shame and secrecy he did if he had seen his mistake with the Hollow Knight as fate.
    Also, I’m totally in the Zote is a vessel boat. There’s too much of his dialogue that confirms it (along with the void bursts when GPZ dies). I think he is a sort of mutant vessel, in the same way, the Collector is a sort of mutation of the Kingsmould. I see a lot of similarities too in the way the void sometimes seems to draw from/mimic the creator-the Collector is obsessed with protecting bugs by sealing them away in containers, and Zote is very obsessed with “opposing fate”, showing no weakness, crying no tears, etc., which seems a fairly good example of the mental state of the PK when he was making the vessels.

    RE: the discussion around 1:22:00, about who the nailsmith is talking too, could it be Quirrel? He does recommend you go see the Nailsmith, so he could've visited him himself. His weapon is a nail, not a needle (he names it such in his dialogue near the Lake of Unn). The Nailsmith's dialogue seems a bit aggressive ("if you're still breathing"), so I don't know why that would be, but maybe he can see how old Quirrel is (is it obvious?), or he is simply acknowledging the dangers of Hallownest, or perhaps I'm reading into it too much.

    • @colinlee2904
      @colinlee2904 2 роки тому

      Ooh I like this. Quirrel is obviously well versed in weaponry which combined with his past memories of hallownest would explain his knowledge of the nailsmith, and we know from the comic that he is capable of scaling vertical walls. From the encounter in teachers archives we also see that he can "dash" long distances in all directions. Before City of tears the last place we see Quirrel is outside the mantis village before the player gets claw, so it's entirely likely that Quirrel entered the city from the left side without City crest, fought his way to the nailsmith and back to the bench in time to greet the Knight. The nailsmith's tone is probably because of the danger outside than Quirrels age, he doesn't even turn to look at the knight initially and doesn't ask any questions.

    the dream particles may have been there for the entire time the knight was knocked out. maybe they represent the knight's dreams being pulled away, the dreamers preventing the knight from dreaming for some reason, but the knight might still be knocked out for any amount of time.
    55:00 ish
    some small corrections - entropy is how much the universe has already "fallen apart", and the effect of time is that entropy generally increases. a bit more precisely: entropy is how many possible states of the world are indistinguishable from the current state. it's not a strict rule that entropy must increase as time goes on, but the more stuff exists, the more likely it is for entropy to increase. it's also only true for "closed systems", which means systems (like the universe, or the earth, or the solar system) where no energy or information comes in from the outside (like the universe, or the black egg... ideally). so the effects of time can be fought by either creating stuff, or by controlling everything with unrealistic precision, both of which seem pretty reasonable for void to be able to do.
    since our universe's laws of physics are perfectly reversible, the only reason we perceive time as flowing in a certain direction is that this is the direction in which entropy increases. it's possible, but extremely unlikely, for your brain to run backwards for a moment and think time is going the opposite way. you might be unremembering stuff that's happening, for example. so if this really happened to hallownest, bugs may get very confused and start preferring radiance over pale king. things were much simpler with a primitive mind controlled by a collective dream. however, if PK only does it to some extent, like only inside the black egg or only inside THK's dreams, then the purpose for which PK is using void would be fulfilled... again, ideally.
    now, here's my theory, which may be going into space, and i might need someone to pull me back down:
    you are a genius. this is the thing that explains how being tarnished by an idea instilled and having a mind to think would allow the radiance to get out. the thoughts go in a certain direction in time, and radiance can catch onto that. place little seeds of its own thoughts in that, and as time goes on, as void is making radiance's entropy go back and forth, those seeds stay and develop in THK, and radiance is able to think through THK. it's still slowed down immensely, since THK only has a few thoughts to work with, and radiance still wasn't able to fully manifest itself outside of the black egg. but it was able to use its power to infect the thoughts of bugs outside of the black egg, so even with all the void in THK, with only the few thoughts, perhaps only the memory of sitting with PK at the end of path of pain, the radiance still has enough power to slip infection through the seals of friccin binding.
    as you kill the dreamers (which, judging by the guy at the top of lurien's spire, the radiance was starting to achieve on its own), the rate at which infection comes from the black egg accelerates, and it very quickly becomes enough to make almost everything in forgotten crossroads explode. however, you do it just quickly enough for THK to live and hold most of radiance inside. during the fight, when THK screams, you can see the radiance in the background (if you use the mod that makes everything a dark room, it's more visible), so it's already getting out of hand at that point. fortunately, you are truly made of just void, and you can hold the radiance in, keeping its entropy down. forever. or you could just leave it to all of void to be sure, or you could go to godhome and actually kill it.
    1:11:11
    so, i think she's leading you to get void heart so that you get more connected with void and have a stronger shade, which would allow you to keep radiance inside for longer, in case you somehow broke too
    1:14:50
    more like they put a seal of binding there so that not everyone can take it, at least until the seal of binding is weakened by age. assuming the weakening is due to age, this seal is by far the oldest seal of binding in hallownest. older than the one on THK, older than the one in the abyss, older than the one protecting the white palace. so the king's brand was probably put there way before all the vessel stuff, or at least way before the black egg was sealed. then i don't think it was put there for a plan involving the vessels, unless by PK himself or *maybe* the people working on the vessels with him.

    Interesting theory about Silksong taking place when you're knocked out after your first fight with hornet. However, how would you explain the other NPCs' journeys through hallownest? How is Quurrel conveniently waiting for you at the Lake of Unn if so much time has passed? What was he doing for so long? And right after that point he still is one step ahead of you? The world just doesn't seem to convey that so much time has elapsed? The spread of the infection is also halted, and only starts to further after you wake up?
    It is a cool idea though. The sealed siblings endings really is a head scratcher

    Salt and Sanctuary was, imo, one of the few "2D dark souls" games that actually did deserve that title. Not in a "super brutal and unfair git gud scrub" kinda way, or that they just ripped off DS's world, but that they built a completely new world using the same principles of world building that DS used.
    When you describe a game as "like Dark souls", that could mean mechanically, world-wise, character writing wise, delivery-of-lore wise, and so on. S&S was the first game I found that actually managed to land each and every category as "like dark souls", both without feeling like a ripoff, and without trying to add their own gimmick to the systems. If you want a different flavor of Dark souls, you might be let down, but if you wanted "More stuff like Dark souls" then S&S is one of the best games for that.

    Like he could see everything of the future and that this was the only 100% certain solution to stop the radiance (sealed in a perfect vessel or deatroyed), I always thought about him as extremely detached and caring about only the eternal perpetuation of his kingdom (the cost did not matter, he did not care about his brood, his spouse or his life).

    On the topic of the possible Voidheart plan and the Steel people;
    We ofc do not know how PK's foresight works exactly, but the idea that it may have been completely ineffectual may be incorrect. We don't know how precise it was, so possibly all PK knew was "A Being of God and Void will kill the Radiance", he went down the Sealing Route because it seemed the most logical due to being unable to enter the Dream Realm.
    After the Hollow Knight cracked, he may have revisited his Foresight to figure out where to go next. The Infection couldn't just be put in another Vessel, but there was a chance, however slim, that he could find a Vessel that could unify the Void and attack Radiance directly. So he brings this up with the White Lady.
    Ofc, we know that WL does not take kindly to other Higher Beings encroaching on her territory(Grimmchild Dialogue), so she may not have been given the full spiel or possibly lied to; thinking that Kingsoul+Void=Voidheart=Fully hollow Vessel, as per what the charm SEEMS to describe. So she thinks that a Vessel with the Voidheart could truly contain the Hollow Knight because it would be completely empty. However, the truth is that the Voidheart's Bearer could defeat the Radiance with the power of Void and then subsequently go to Rest.
    Hornet was likely roped in on this to some extent-she took up the mantle of Hallownest's Protector, and although we don't know her standing with the Pale King he could have given her the idea that rogue Vessels were to be attacked and tested for strength.
    How Vessels got out of the abyss is anyone's guess, however, my thoughts are that PK actually opened the Abyss a *second* time, retrieved the still living vessels, and then yeeted them into the wastes for only the strongest to make it back. After all, even if called, we don't know how long it actually took for the Knight to get to Hallownest.
    Thus, we get a general outline of the Voidheart Plan: The remaining survivors in the Abyss were to be expelled into the Wastes by PK's magic, while PK and WL both went into seclusion to give the Radiance a false impression of victory. The strongest Vessel would beat Hornet, earn the King's Brand, open the Abyss, and eventually obtain the halves of the Kingsoul and create the Voidheart, kill the Radiance, and then immediately return to the Abyss to minimize the threat of Infection 2 Umbral Boogaloo. Hopefully, there'd be enough survivors of the Infection to rebuild, and both Monarchs could come out of hiding and rebuild their kingdom. Hallownest lasts Eternal, No Cost Too Great, all that jazz. I'll wager PK isn't even actually dead, and the body you wack off the throne was basically a dummy or a basic Void construct while PK is, essentially, the Palace itself like how NKG is the Nightmare Heart and Radiance is the sun in the background of her arenas. The sawblades were yet another test of will and strength.
    Now, back to the Steel "Assassins".
    Steel Soul Jinn and Sharpe are rather neat folks, even if we know little about them. As is confessor JiJi, but she seems less linked to them. Let's focus on the wording of the name, though. "Steel", "Soul/Assassin", "Jinn/Sharpe". A strange naming scheme. However, there are hints. Jinn is a machine that appears to operate on some mechanism not yet seen in Hollow Knight-the Mining Golems of Crystal Peak ran on Crystal Hearts, and Kingsmoulds and Wingmoulds were a void construct enveloped in an artificial shell. However, Jinn comments that the Knight has "come to terms with the darkness within", like Jinn's "Masters". Come to term with their regrets...doesn't that remind you of a certain royal couple whose mantra was "No Cost Too Great"? And Steel in HK has a silvery color, like a dulled version of the Kingsmoulds and Wingmoulds. Sharpe too seems associated with the void, IIRC he has a void tendril-esque attack in one of his pictures Team Cherry posted. A void creature, in an artificial shell...where have we seen that before?
    What if the Steel Assassins aren't actually Assassins, but constructs sent out by the Pale King to retrieve Hornet? They only masquerade as a group of assassins to fool the Bell Cult, but when the cards are on the table they're trying to capture her and drag her back to Hallownest, just not saying that outright for fear of being found out. Which of course makes its own conflict in the story because Hornet seems very doggedly determined to find out what's happened to Pharloom and the Weavers, and THEN coming back to Hallownest.

    I think for the nail smith theory is could be quirrel because he says that whe’ll need a better nail and he probably hasn’t honed it in a while cause of the comic we’ve tracked him for a while but that’s just my guess also I haven’t even read the comic so yea that’s my thoughts

      I was about to say this, and iirc quirrel says something about relieving the dead of their nails, "they shouldn't be burdened with such things", or something along those lines. The nailsmith was probably just thinking of Quirrel bringing dead bugs' nails.

    I think the reason Jiji and Jinn are there is because of the Abyss. Not specifically for the Abyss itself, but likely rumors of it in other kingdoms. Void likely exists elsewhere in the world, but in scant amounts. The Abyss is probably the largest known source of void in existence, and Jiji's masters/The Steel Assassins are interested in it. I doubt they actually know about the Abyss in its whole, but can sense a significant influence of void in Hallownest.

    Crackhead theory: Touching the Cast-off shell gives a vessel the King's Brand, thus marking it as a king. What if when the Godseeker says "What does Crawler ask for in return? To touch our thick, gleaming hide?" Maybe they ask this because their own shell contains power due to the dream contained inside. What if touching the Godseeker allows you to join their ranks, marking you as a Godseeker yourself?
    Also I kind of always assumed the Nailsmith was talking to one of the Nailmasters, but yeah I guess they wouldn't fit through the doors lol. Maybe Sly though?

And thats obviously a mask because one, just look at it, two they don't emote, two it is seen to have hollow holes for eyes, and it breaks off as a mask when you die and in the ending where you defeat the radiance. The cloak being biological doesn't make any sense, it was probably given to them by the queen. And cant really argue with that last one. The nailsmith says its not one of his nails so maybe wherever these vessels went they got nails. But I think im going to stick with my theory that either hornet or the queen gave them nails. Maybe it was going to be explained with hornet dlc, I could imagine a person who forges little nails from hardened lava or magma since this is underground. Since if you know, the dlc was going to add a lava filled area called the forest of bones.

    • @captainfordo556
      @captainfordo556 2 роки тому

      @@b222a5 Pale Being is just a descriptive term for the Pale King and the White Lady because they have pale shells. You could certainly make the argument that Vessels are also pale beings, but that does not make them Higher Beings. Higher Beings are defined by Team Cherry as beings who exist above all others. Having a white shell does not make you exist above all others.
      The head and cloak are biological because it makes no sense that the Pale King would have tens of thousand of masks and cloaks made for Vessels that are of no use to him. He says in the lore tablet outside the Abyss "Beyond lies only the refuse and regret (the Vessels) of it's (the Hollow Knight) creation"
