    Luck increases your skills by 40% of the value in excess of 50. Its possible to leave the sewer with 65 luck. 40% of 15 is 6, meaning that all of your skills are effectively 6 levels higher, which can be useful for making your lockpicks and hammers break less often when at low level. I often take the big boost to luck early and then ignore it for a little. After my Endurance, Intelligence, Strength and Speed Hit 100, Ill sometimes revisit it, and get it up to about 80. Also, Fun fact, if you boost your Luck to 200 with some combination of spells, enchantments and potions, you can max out Mehrunes Razor to 11% instant Kill, which makes it kind of hilarious and OP.

    To put another nail into the coffin, you can use spells to briefly boost luck by 100 points as you, say, place a bet in the arena, in order to boost your chosen candidate's HP. Assuming luck also affects loot drops in dungeons, you can do the same thing right before entering to (possibly) bolster your odds, with the only cost being some magicka. No wasteful investment of precious attribute points required.

      It's especially harder at higher difficulties to lose the precious +5 to attributes like endurance and speed. Magic is a beautiful thing!

    Khajiit does not care for luck however cares for this video. Liked and subbed. I see the hero of kvatch and champion of the arena was almost as powerful as Khajiit... sadly Khajiit will always be the the most powerful. sad. Khajiit likes competition.

    My approach was to always either pick the theif birthsign or just pick it as a favored attribute along with endurance so it is over 50. After that I just leave it alone and go the +5 +5 +5 route

    • @NerdyGamerGal
      @NerdyGamerGal  2 роки тому +1

      Oh nice, that at least tips the scales so that you're in the positive. I'd love to try an experiment (with either potions or a custom spells) to compare luck rolls side by side and see what happens!

    The thief Stone near Coral grants you the greater power to increase your luck by 20 points for 90 seconds once a day. It's very handy.
    Let's say you're in a ruin being jumped by like five marauders, that greater power plus fingers of the mountain is like a one hit guarantee to knock everyone down and launch em. XD

    As an anecdote to whether the loot system has been effected by luck, i was level 13 earlier and was having a terrible time finding new armor and weapons in chests untul i realized my luck was a whopping 4. Prayed at a chapel and the first bandit cave I went in gave me almost a full set of mithril, an elven bow, and a glass shortsword. Then the next oblivion gate was the layout tgat holds Hatreds soul and heart.

    All these years I thought leveling Luck was important, so much so that I sacrificed an attribute boost every level for just one point of it. Please don't tell me it was a waste.

      It's painful, especially after seeing how fun it could be in Fallout! It would be interesting to see if any mods have been made to make it a worthwhile investment

    its weird how a game dev knows all of this and still decided to keep it how it is in the game instead of changing it in any way at all to make it useful

    • @NerdyGamerGal
      @NerdyGamerGal  2 роки тому

      Good point. I wonder if it was obvious from the being that it wasn't behaving properly. They made Luck interesting in Fallout and, although they wanted Elder Scrolls to be different, I think they could have made it good (especially with the religious elements in the game)

    Luck doesn't harm your character. Not if you're taking The Thief - you're still +10 +10 on agility and speed, if your goal was to be 100 in all stats anyway then there's no real downside to taking The Thief sign and getting +10 luck for the boost in all skills of 4 for essentially free, the only real "downside" at that point is that you could maxed your hp a little bit more (by like a few hp points) by picking warrior or lady, and you could have gotten more magicka from The Mage or related birthsigns.
    This is all semantics though. Ultimately, nothing harms your character. Even essential leveling doesn't matter as much as your equipment and your spells, eventually enchanted weapons/spells are the only way to do good damage even if you level +5 +5 +5 every level perfectly, because creature HP and Damage is tied directly to level meaning they will *always* scale better than you.
    Should you go 100 in luck? Probably not. But going 60 or even 65 in luck? No real problem at all really. You'll only need (If you're being optimal) Endurance and your main damage stat and from there you can never level again, everything else is optional at that point.

    What about luck effecting good loots from chests once you've entered a location?

    • @NerdyGamerGal
      @NerdyGamerGal  4 роки тому +14

      Loot is primarily influenced by your character level and not as much by Luck as it is with its perks in Fallout. I saw or read a couple tests people did where there seemed to be no difference in loot. I know it anecdotal, but you could always create a max Luck spell or potion to use before you enter a cave or loading area to just in case 😉👍

      @@NerdyGamerGal Yeah good point it is based on your level. Specifically speaking, if you were to find any piece of armor, your luck might come with an enchanted version of that armor? Not sure about that one.

      So I just looked at uesp wiki again and it says, "Luck does not have any impact on what loot you will receive from containers or other leveled lists." I wonder if some of the confusion comes from the fact that, again, Fallout's Luck is actually involved in loot, because I've seen people debate and test the theory.
      I feel like there were a lot more random weapons like that in Skyrim but Oblivion's enchanted weapons were more often special items or quest rewards.
      I think Luck is really fun to play with in Fallout and it could be a fun attribute given the more spiritual side of Elder Scrolls lore. Maybe reintroduce a morality scale that affects Luck or controls random encounters? Or get different benefits depending on which daedra/aedra you side with/against. Now I'm just day dreaming....

      @NerdyGamerGal  4 роки тому +6

      Yes, it's much better than investing during leveling! I don't think Luck does much in Obilvion but you can also create a spell or potion to give you a boost of Luck whenever you need it

    As much as I know better, I wish Bethesda would bring the RPG back to the TES series in 6 and make luck work properly like it does in fallout. (Skyrim is not a real RPG, its an adventure game with levelups)

      @NerdyGamerGal  5 місяців тому

      That would be so cool! I really enjoy the combat system in Oblivion and skyrim, but making more focused classes of characters would make replaying the game much more fun. Oh, how I'd love to see a fallout style, beefed up luck attribute in elder scrolls 6! It would fit so well with the world and its lore!

    I do feel like it affects the chance at more often finding loot. Of course there is r&g loops in play throughs that affect you loot chances which are a bit unquantifiable. For instance I’m in a current play through where I’m finding gold, silver spoons and silver knifes and lock pics in almost every crab I kill along with peals in every oaster I find. Even found a piece of clothing inside the first dungeon from the sewers worth 3,000 plus gold that fortifies all personality attributes
    It’s the kind of play through I’m being very careful not to lose game saves 😂

    I did a 5/5/1 using the thief birthsign to achieve a full 100 across my attributes. It wasn't a fun time, more like a chore.
    It's also important to note that the two favoured attributes during character creation shouldn't contain luck. If strength is my favoured attribute and blade is a major skill, my blade skill will take half as long to level up. Since luck doesn't affect and isn't affected by minor skills through level up, it's only useful for the early game.
    In a future game, I would love to try an apprentice high elf on the hardest difficulty, avoiding mages and the realm of Oblivion until I can properly handle them. I'll use the preset mage class since I rarely use Intelligence and Willpower skills simultaneously and I'll be able to access higher tier spells faster. I prefer to play in combat stages and idle stages, levelling combat skills in one level and non-combat skills like alchemy, sneak, athletics and/or mercantile for the other.
    I've played something similar before, but with the constant urge to level up luck, I found the game to be very slow, unnecessary and not fun simply because I was focused on the destination but not the journey.

    • @lastbraincell6996
      @lastbraincell6996 Рік тому

      To better explain my original grievance with luck; it's extremely easy to level up skills at the start, too easy even. By limiting myself to 5/5/1, my character is weaker for the start and mid game while the gameplay itself is heavily restricted to only two skill trees, since I would focus on Willpower and Endurance skills only. By the time I use archery or strength skills, they've almost been rendered unviable due to low numbers against higher tier enemies and the attributes that could support me have been locked away due to poor foresight on my part.
      Raise luck later in the game when level ups are slower and enemies are more easily managed. By then it isn't useful anyway.

    Luck at 50+ has slight affect on gameplay. Luck lower than 50 is a disaster. And aside from boss chests, a lower Luck will affect random loot.
