@@katc.7770 Actually, the name comes from the British Navy tradition of passing out lime juice to ship's crews to prevent scurvy and the lime juice in question probably came from British colonies in the West Indies which is the same variety of lime grown in the Florida Keys and which is also known as the Caribbean lime, West Indies lime or Mexican lime. What we consider a "regular lime", the Persian lime, is certainly not grown in Britain either nor in the British colonies.
Side note on putting the hot sauce in your eye accidentally. Years back a woman was driving from LA to Palm Springs (or vv). Her eyes were dry so she reached in her purse to get her eye drops. Unfortunately she grabbed ‘a’ small bottle and without checking doused her eyes. It was Super Glue. I think she pulled over quickly enough to avoid an accident. Called cops, taken to hospital, very scary, but she didn’t lose her eyesight.
Depends how much is used. I love Cayenne or Habanero for hot sauce. I've eaten a couple of fresh habaneros whole and fresh, and they are miles hotter than a jalapeno
Habanero is the perfect hot sauce pepper for me. I grow them and make my own hot sauces. I grow ghosts and reapers, too, but mostly give them away to people that can handle that kind of crazy heat. I can cook with habaneros and add them to sauces/salsas, but found out the hard way that I cannot handle them whole lol
Agreed. I grow peppers of all varieties and habanero is in my top 10. Serrano, Cayenne, Scotch Bonnet, Thai Chili, Pablano, Diablo, Black Cobra, & Jalapeno are my other faves. I highly recommend all these, which cover a wide range of the scovile range.
I used to live in Sarasota. It’s famous for the winter home of Ringling Brothers Circus and the flying Walendas tight rope act. It’s south of ST. Petersburg and north of Fort Myers. It’s very close to Bradenton in fact there’s streets that when you stand on one side you’re in Sarasota and if you cross to the other side you’re in Bradenton
You guys would probably love a beer called Westbrook Gose from South Carolina and is available throughout the Southeast and possibly beyond. There's also a key lime variant and both are great.
Aw yay, as a lifelong Austinite it was cool to see that you got some Yellowbird. My family has been turned onto them for years! Glad they’re getting some international recognition 😛 lots of good flavors.
Here is a little bit of trivia for you. Hillsborough County was named for Wills Hill. The Earl of Hillsborough, who served as British Secretary of State for the colonies from 1768 to 1772. Hillsborough County was founded 25 January 1834.
How can I send you some goodies ??? :) Key lime pie is amazing ! Old El Paso is a bottom of the barrel brand. Refried beans can range from a loose porridge to a more sturdy, thick version. Pinto beans are standard, but black beans work.
Habanero is not a brand. Habanero is a type of chili pepper. Habaneros are rated 100,000-350,000 on the Scoville scale. For comparison, jalapenos are between 4000 and 8500 so Habaneros are roughly 25 to 100 times as hot as jalapenos. The name literally means, of course, from Havana (Cuba).
You're confusing Saratoga, which is in New York, with Sarasota in Florida concerning horse racing. There actually is a horsey part of Florida but it's around Ocala.

Sarasota is on the West Coast of Florida also known as the Gulf Coast because we are on the golf from Mexico and your son was correct it is just south of Tampa
Careful with the word"mexican". Alot of people and food arent mexican. The proper word would be "hispanic" or even "spanish" but spanish implies partially "spain" which alot of hispanic speaking countries ancestors originated from so its usually ok to use but can imply theyre from spain. Its usually not a big deal but its better to be proper than not.
I've been around "Hispanics" my whole life and never heard one get upset over the term "Mexican" when it comes to food. They usually chuckle. They don't cry like so many others about their feelings. My wife of over 30 years is "Hispanic".
Good work Frank! Daz, now you got me wanting to send something from So Cal! I've got a BUNCH of ideas that you wouldn't have probably gotten even when you lived in Texas. Not sure if I can get an address on here or if I should contact you through IG. Let me know, if you will.
Enjoy! I am glad the key lime pie tart shells did not break during the trip over!
Sending lime juice to a family of Limeys is like "carrying coals to Newcastle".
But they don’t have Key Limes there.
Ouch!

Saratoga Springs in upstate NY is for the horse racing

@@marydavis5234 It's actually Sarasota.
Sarasota County is the next county below Manatee County. The big horse area is up in Marion County ( Ocala ).
The grandkids may not get the post cards. Seems their uncle really like them.

There's only one ketchup, and it's Heinz.
Pompano Beach is just north of Ft Lauderdale, and south of West Palm Beach. I lived in Pompano for about 3 years late 90's, I loved it!!
Sarasota is right below Tampa, yes. Saratoga Springs is in New York, I used to live there before moving to Tampa lol.
Habenero is arguably one of the best peppers for a hot sauce. Its hot but not too hot, but also tastes good. Ghost pepper is way too hot.
Depends how much is used. I love Cayenne or Habanero for hot sauce. I've eaten a couple of fresh habaneros whole and fresh, and they are miles hotter than a jalapeno
I picked up a small bottle from Walmart and I'm so mad I didn't get like 30 of them😂 it is the best tasting hot sauce I've had probably ever.
Ghost snd the Carolina Reaper.
