Quick Detailers with no protective components seem better. They contain high amounts of lubricants like soapy water but wipes away easily to a dry surface, helping inspect the location and moving on to the other.
Really new to detailing and confused somewhat. I watched some of your other videos and for the ceramic wax application, you are using an IPA to remove old wax and things like that prior to painting prep and ceramic application. If you are using products that have waxes like the Optimum No Rinse, then aren't you working harder by adding wax, then having to remove it with the IPA/paint prep process?
Compared to the verbose Auto Fanatic guy, repeating his points endlessly, this Wilson fellow is deeply appreciated. Just the facts, man, in half the time!
Thanks for the video, using a clay bar for the first time and didn't realise I needed a lube, well not until I opened the product box and read the instructions. I'm not going back to the auto store so I'm going to use your first suggestion.. 👍
What is the best clay bar lubricant to use before silica spray sealants? I assume you would want as little organic compounds (waxes) on the paintwork before application.
My only issue with speed or detailing spray it lubricants is that they have polymers in there. So when you want to the polish and or compound your vehicle it's going to be more difficult to get the results you want with trying to get defects like scratches out. I have experienced this myself personally. I believe the same with some waterless shampoos. So I am wondering if a regular car shampoo with no wax may work the best? Otherwise if you do use a speed detailing lubricant or waterless wash you would then need I believe to use a wax cleaner before you polish and or compound your car correct?
It’s better to use a wax grease removal after the clay and line cause of the polymers in detail spray soo u have a nice clean surface for your protection to bind properly
is it bad to use quick detailer as a clay lube since it leaves oil behind after you just washed the car? Wouldn't leaving behind any kind of layer behind be bad before you polish?
Funny. I used ONR for wet sanding lubricant for damaged paint. Will use it for clay baring aswell. Thanks for shedding some light. Will be clay baring in next couple of days.
Can you clay bar your bumper also the plastic bumper should I say. I've got a 2016 Kia Optima they were putting a motor into it for me they left it parked behind the car wash at the dealership for 2 months it left some major overspray I need to clay bar it some is on the bumper what do I do?.
I'm not a pro detailer, but like to detail my own 4Runner. It's pretty large, and I'm struggling to do just a basic wash and interior cleaning in less than 2.5 hours. That doesn't include claying or waxing or anything. I'm still doing two-bucket method with a pressure washer, and occasionally will do more things, like wax or thoroughly clean and wax the windows with a scraper and steel wool, like you've suggested in other videos. That can easily take me 4+ hours. Am I crazy to do a 2 bucket wash? (Three if you count the wheels)? I'd love to get it done in an hour or so, but it's a pretty large vehicle and I need a ladder for the roof. Thanks Luke! Enjoy your channel.
Honestly i hate the two bucket method Hahahaha for many many reasons, but I would say that you are doing good man. Don’t get caught up in spending 4 hours, honestly for starting out that is great! And some things take 4 plus hours! This is Detailing after all! Just some encouragement! Thanks for being involved man!
I have a Tundra with a color-keyed LEER tonneau cover and I can do the whole exterior in about 30 mins with ONR! I keep it pretty clean on the inside too so rarely does it take me more than an hour to do inside and outside using ONR (I use it as in interior detailer too). I usually do a full clay, polish and sealer twice a year (spring and fall) and that can eaislaly take me all day. Just depends on what level you're looking for!
Hey Luke, I live in the UK and love your videos loads of good advice and very informative some of the best I've seen. I've just started getting into detailing and I hear a lot about TFR (traffic film remover), can you do a video that shows us newbies how to use it and the benefits? And is it better than snow foaming?
Would i want to put a proper wax over a less durable wax that's found in spraywaxes and some detailers? Isn't a super clean base the best foundation for a proper wax? My guess is if you put a weak base wax on the paint, the proper wax you add later on wouldn't last long. It will not get a chance to bond with the paint. It will bond with the lower grade wax left behind by the spray you use.
My new mini has that same sticky residue on the plastic trim (rustproofing overspray?)! It's right where the top of hood meets the car on quarter panel. I've tried all types of products and soft brushes without success! Any suggestions to remove that stuff/stain?
Hi @wilson auto Detailing. My question is, do I require a polish after claybar my car? Or will this product Optimum Wash and Wax take care of that in protecting the clearcoat? I plan to use Turtle Wax Hybrid Ceramic Coating (the spray) to finish my detailing. I only drive some econo cars, so I don't want to go crazy, and want to keep the price low
Hey Luke, just discovered your channel and am quickly falling down the detailing rabbit hole. I have ordered some pinnicle sovern wax and body lotion to preceed the wax, however i want to clay the vehicle first will this order work to get good results or are some of the products redundant of each other Hand wash with wash mitt and hose rinse Clay with optimum no rinse Pinnicle body lotìon Pinnicle souvern wax Thanx man love your vids, your a natural in front of the cam !!
Always lube the surface of the panel AND the face of the clay. Once it’s super smooth and the clay no longer “grabs” the panel is finished. Doing it extra will not help or make it any better. Always clean up with a clean microfiber towel folded in fours and make sure you use a ton of towels. I have 25 towels dedicated to my claying process. I’ll probably use 10-13 towels per car for drying before I compound, swirl remove, polish, and wax
Aaron xp same here ! Bucket of fresh water and my CG soap. I take my mit and sweeze it on top of the zone i am doing. I am juste an enthousiast, but works great !! Hello Luke from Québec, Canada !
Hey great video i have a Q tho, I’ve been clay “mitting” my car before i apply vinyl wrap, I’ve been using water and Johnson baby shampoo, is this ok? Basically i clay bar and then use alcohol, so it would be counter intuitive if i applied more wax/or other type of product to the paint when clay mitting it. Any input you have is appreciated greatly
Don't use shampoo its for hair not paintwork and tend to have product that will damage the paintwork. Normal car shampoo is cheap as hell and there Is no reason not to use it.
@@PsyMongSki so you're saying a diluted shampoo - literally safe and designed for babies will hurt the paint.. the detailing industry has really got to you. Yes, you can use diluted johnson's baby shampoo, just don't let it dry out in the sun
If im doing a full decon: wash, clay, iron, IPA. Will the ONR creat a layer of wax the iron remover and IPA are going to have to fight through? Will it protect other contaminants and then make it harder for the other methods to do their jobs?
Ok since after claying you want the surface to be free of anything including wax, why not use the blue wash and shine ONR for lube? It has polymers too. I'm shopping for a more economical clay lube and from all I've read about what is best, it seems the blue wash and shine would be better because it's not leaving wax. Thanks for your input. :-)
@@wilsonautodetailing oh ok. Yeah I got you. I am considering using a paint prep chemical like klean strip prep-all wax and grease remover. Used to prep surface before coats of paint. You really need to speed up your presentation. The time it takes to get through a simple sentence makes one want to find something that's moving along a bit quicker.

Best video I've seen on the subject! I really like the fast pace with clear speech! Great info and to the point! Thank you!
Yeah his talking super fast is awesome. Other youtubers would make thisna 1hour video haha

Meguiar's ultimate snow foam + water (1 part shampoo 20 part water) is also a very good lubricant for clay bar!
Best Clay lubricant is any car shampoo 1/2 ounce into 2 liters of water I am using that for the past six years it is the best !!
That works too!
That one you need to rinse

Do you apply a second wax? You use the ONR as lubricant. But do you add a wax afterwards

What do you think about synthetic clay bars?
Can we only use water for lubricate clay? Can it cause marring?
Although this product has a protectant in it, would you add another synthetic polish on top of it?
Definitely!

Why would you use a wax that traps the impurity's from the claying process?
