"You grab his Taser, I'll knock him out" | Attempted murder suspect threatens to stab police officer

- A police officer who single-handedly took down two attempted murder suspects has been commended by the chief constable.
PC Ryan Murley was attending an address last October when he was informed that two brothers, Angus and Cameron Hollingsworth, wanted for stabbing a couple and killing their pet dog the day before, were present.
Keeping his cool, PC Murley shouted to the control room for extra resources and pursued the suspects who had fled the property.
PC Murley had no way of knowing if the pair were still armed as he chased them into an isolated field where they suddenly turned on him.
Suspecting one of the brothers had a weapon on him, PC Murley drew his Taser but was outnumbered.
He bought time by engaging with the suspects as backup raced to the scene.
At one point, Angus became so aggressive he threatened to stab PC Murley while using his brother as a shield.
But PC Murley took an opportunity to discharge his Taser when Angus proceeded to try to swallow some pills he had on him and quickly arrested him just as colleagues arrived to detain the second man.
However, Angus then spat in PC Murley’s eye, making it known he had Hepatitis.
PC Murley faced months agonisingly waiting for test results to confirm whether or not he had contracted the disease all while continuing to serve the communities of Stanley.
PC Murley said: “It was a stressful and dangerous incident being by myself and threatened with being stabbed and assaulted and then spat at.
“Being faced with two suspects was a precarious situation but I always knew my colleagues were travelling to assist me.
“You expect conflict in our role and are trained to deal with it, but being assaulted like that causes months of stress thinking I could have contracted Hepatitis. It also affects my family so it was a relief when the tests came back negative.”
PC Murley also had to give evidence in court as the brothers were tried before they suddenly pleaded guilty to several offences just as the closing arguments were being made.
Angus, 27, of Birmingham, pleaded guilty to a Section 18 assault causing grievous bodily harm, a Section 20 assault, criminal damage, assaulting an emergency worker and possession of a bladed article.
Cameron, 21, of Croxdale, pleaded guilty to a Section 47 assault and possession of a bladed article.
The pair are set to be sentenced in the coming months.
PC Murley has now been personally thanked by Chief Constable Jo Farrell, as he received a Chief Constable’s Commendation to recognise his brave actions.
Ms Farrell said: “Our officers put themselves in harm’s way to keep the public safe every night and day and the courage of PC Murley in handling this incident is a clear demonstration of that selfless determination to protect the people of County Durham and Darlington.
“Faced with two violent offenders who had committed a horrendous attack only 24 hours earlier, he showed true dedication and calm, professional judgement in detaining the suspects despite the risk to his own safety.
“PC Murley should be truly proud of this award, and I would like to offer my thanks for his bravery and his service on behalf of everyone at Durham Constabulary and the wider community that we serve.”
PC Murley has also been nominated for the national Police Bravery Awards which are due to take place in London tomorrow.
Andy Jackson, Durham Police Federation chairman, said: “This was clearly a challenging situation for PC Murley. He found himself alone and fully aware of the danger he faced in confronting two males suspected of two attempted murders the previous day.
“Without any thought for his own safety, and whilst outnumbered, he confronted the two males who posed a significant threat. He also believed that at least one of the males was armed with a blade and was aware of their propensity for violence. He remained calm and controlled the situation until the arrival of colleagues.
“PC Murley demonstrated tenacity and bravery in confronting these males without a thought for his own safety. His actions led to the detention of two violent individuals and helped keep communities in the area safe from further harm.”
PC Murley said he was proud to receive the commendation but that it was just part of his job, a common view taken by police officers who put the safety of their communities first.
He said: “It was all a bit of a blur at the time but at the end of the day this is what we sign up for and I know everybody I work with would do the same.”
"I guarantee I'll kill myself in the van." Oh no! What a loss to the world that would be.

People saying too late for the taser need to give their heads a wobble. He’s one man with two possible suspects in a knife related incident. Not only has he got to keep an eye on the first suspect who is threatening him but also the other who is supposed to have a knife. If he tased him straight off without backup then he’s a sitting duck to be attacked from behind by his pal whilst he’s arresting him. Officer done well waiting for backup! And that could’ve easily turned bad for the Officer.

@@1finalfailure Correct. Only the armed police (AFOs) in each different county of the UK have pistols on their person and a carbine (usually a G36/M4 variants), Im not sure if I agree with arming all the police but what I can say is the Armed coppers we do have are very very good at what they do. They should have been called out to this scene, and were probably on the way (especially when machete/blades came into the picture) but may probably have arrived when it was all over. Just a guess but, yeah....Ive met way too many mega power tripping coppers in my 35 years in the UK to sign up to giving them all firearms just yet...
@@1finalfailure Ours aren't armed either though we have armed response units (in bright yellow and red cars in case you miss the large words on the sides of the vehicles) as well. I feel safer without armed cops thank you - don't think the NZ cops were armed when I lived there though, not even carrying them locked in the boot. Knew a few and they were proud of NOT being armed like other countries, maybe the illegal immigration issues (I still have family living there) has something to do with that. I know there were regular armed burglaries where dad lived in the bay of plenty, he was robbed regularly of anything and everything they could lay their hands on (including the toilet and the kitchen sink once believe it or not).
Glad I'm in Ireland where guns are still not needed on a regular basis though it has been commented recently that the violence from over the Atlantic is making its way here, that was after a riot recently in Dublin egged on by the far right wing brigade and other criminal elements (or so it was alleged)..
@@1finalfailure I'm not surprised, dad said years ago the problem was illegal immigrants who had come in on work visas and simply stayed. But they weren't the ones all the fuss was about when I was younger (Vietnamese boat people) but who were willing to adapt and fit in, they were standing in the main street and would hassle the shoppers trying to do their shopping, especially the women. Mum gave up trying to go shopping on her own in the end and they only went out in pairs (she would go with a couple of their neighbours) because they weren't bothered by the blokes standing around trying to find a way to support themselves in the off seasons. It actually stopped me from returning although I was speaking to someone further over in the Lake Taupo region who was saying that where they were was probably one of the safest places in the country. The local chief was very very hot on law and order and would come down on criminals like a ton of bricks. I was seriously considering that but then dad moved up to Auckland to a nursing home near my brother and I decided I may as well stay in Ireland, I love it here and while we have issues - the biggest one at present is the far right anti everything brigade/sovereign citizens which seems to be permeating in from the US. They were heavily involved in recent rioting - although a criminal element were also involved so it was more a combination.

UK is just cheap. Especially with tories in power... all our money goes to private companies run by their mates, donors or even themselves.
Imagine dealing with pricks like this day in day out, it's no wonder how police can come across as they do.
What can you do with people like this.
Oxygen thieves.
Respect to the police. Good on your professionalism.
Mum and dad should of worn protection.
Attempted murder, what for ?
Er, attempting to murder someone.
Cops put up with so much hassle from these low lifes. The officer showed alot of restraint and was proffesional throughout . Kudos.
I Q of a slice of cheese 🧀
nah, some cheese is smarter than that!
He stole a sausage roll from Gregg’s that morning.
Don’t blame him, they’re godly
Prison is too nice a place for those guys. The morgue is better suited.
Why is not every officer armed with firearms?
Because it’s Britain you dunce, do you want our police to be trigger happy mass murderers like the yanks?
Ask the Met... cos they cant behave properly with just a truncheon
Because (for example) we're not the USA, a nation that has 300 million people armed with 400 million guns (and thats just the legal ones), we're a nation that has 70 milllion people and and maybe a thousand illegal firearms (not inlcuding [Northern] Ireland, theres probably still a fair few AK47s n Browning Hi-Powers left over from the troubles, theres probs a vickers machine gun or two too in a random stash house near the Northern border somewhere ha ha...but then Northern Irish police ARE armed. Only place in the UK where all police are armed). Rest of the UK though, we have armed police officers for armed incidents. I have a FAC (firearms cert) and a shotgun cert and have several of both types and have hunted all my life and grew up around guns and know more about them than most Americans, and I still dont think our beat bobbies should be armed. Its just not necessary statistically really, a single city like say St Louis or Atlanta may have 15 shootings in one night whereas i think 25 people total were killed by firearms in the entire UK last year. Yes I realise the incredible size difference between the two countries but ill let the statistics do the rest of the talking:
"The annual rate of gun homicide per 100,000 of the population is currently 0.03 in Great Britain. This compares with 3.6 in the USA, a rate that is 120-fold greater. The total firearms death rate (including suicides and accidents as well) is 51 times higher in the US than in the UK."
@@mandero8842 Guns are not just for suspects with Guns yiu have gun vs gun, dog vs person, knife, axe, machete, stolen car, replica gun, the list goes on officer injury is to high at the moment in uk.
But things should be 3 times worse in the next three years as the uk are toothless tigers on crime
@@mandero8842 700 homicides un uk recorder so far this year
Why can't the police just have a massive industrial shredder on a flat bed to throw this garbage into. Save the country a lot of cash and trouble.
These two aren't the full ticket now are they lol.
And what happened? Usual slap on the wrist, and driven home to his mummy?
Well done police
