Ehhhhhhh, I don't know. I think the beast races' adherence to their animal inspiration varies. For instance, Gnolls are (usually) stupid murderers whose only social structure is "big man on top", but real life hyenas are A) matriarchal, B) Have an incredibly nuanced social structure complete with their own fucking NAMES (I mean, they're just like yips and barks, but each hyena has a unique combination that they and their pack use to refer to that specific Hyena. How cool is that?), C) Are intelligent enough to have a means of communication that borders on an actual (if very simple) language, and D) Are only aggressive sometimes because, you know, they need to eat. Kenku's intelligence is mostly just mimicry, but Ravens (and corvids in general) are actually VERY intelligent and creative. Though they can also mimic things. Yuan-Ti are WAAAAY more active than snakes. Depending on the lizard in question, a Lizardfolk might be LESS emotional than a real-life lizard. I've seen people play with big monitor lizards like dogs. They fucking play fetch with their 6ft lizard. But yes, Tabaxi are pretty much just cats. Except they don't try to murder you on a whim because you brushed your hand against them.

I just finished up a mini campaign with my tabaxi scout rogue. They have a hermit background and are known to work as a contractor for candlekeep (it’s a mutually beneficial arrangement) and go out and research flora, fauna, and ancient ruins/caverns (they know dwarven and undercommon from all their research). This arrangement is beneficial to them because they grew up in a caravan family with many children. As my tabaxi is a bit quieter and more reclusive, far more of an introverted personality, they often took off for their own “mini adventures” as a kid and self taught themselves the basics of being a scout. They did gain a mentor who is their sponsor for candlekeep and was given bracers of archery and a bag of holding from them to take on their journeys as an adult. When my character became an adult they left their caravan family behind, promising to send letters and journals filled with notes and drawings from their adventures back to keep their family informed, reassured, and amused by their antics. This is how their story starts. I gave my character a deep curiosity of the natural world and the past and they like to collect things. They don’t really steal, not really at least, though they obviously pick up stuff during a dungeon crawl. Most times they sell back the historical and magical items they don’t keep for themselves to candlekeep. Though valuables aren’t all they collect. My tabaxi is somewhat practical and also has a slight obsession with being over prepared. Their bag of holding is filled with tons of mundane items from shovels to spyglasses to pretty leaves. They will of course trade easily and if you gift them an item of practical value they will give you something in return (I did this with a silvered +1 returning dagger and gave the player a healing potion, my character can make them, and a poleof collapsing). They just keep tons of stuff on themselves at all times, even extra signal whistles and tents, and cold weather clothes. Heck, they have a costume even and soap (who buys soap? Or keeps empty vials for that matter? Or a whetstone?). My party members and the dm loved how my character turned out as he was everything practical but everything comedic too, especially when I would have him say “Wait, I think I got something for this” and dig so far into his bag of holding you could only see his lower body and swishing tail and occasionally a random item would be thrown out as he digs. It all came in handy eventually though he definitely lost some items along the way, mostly his ball bearings and some unlit candles he was using to mark the path. He plans to pick up some incense sometime soon as, now in the epilogue he is going to travel with the wizard to candlekeep (they realized they were headed the same direction). It’s been fun to play this character. Had no magic but it was amazing and powerful nevertheless and he served his party well with his many abilities. I really enjoyed playing him and hope to bring him back from retirement sometime. Oh and I should probably mention this. Part of why my dm loved this character is that he loved how creatively my character would use mundane items. He said they are under used and he hadn’t thought to use them the ways I would or would have my character use them and he would talk to his main dnd group (we were playtesting a dungeon in preparation for the main group) about some of the antics I got up to so they too might consider spending their excessive coin on such things and have fun with it. Cat Lord had a stat block in ADND. Monster Manual 2 maybe? There wasn't much lore, but he appeared as just a fancy man who summoned and controlled cats at will. I was always so curious about where he came from!
I chose Tabaxi because I can relate to them. He’s easily distracted and lazy. My character is enchanted by shiny objects even if they aren’t worth anything, they just need to be shiny. He’s also a charlatan who likes to convince people that the random junk he’s selling is actually worth something. He has gold but doesn’t really know it’s true value, to him they are just shiny pieces.
Oh my fuckin God Just because someone plays as a animal like race dosen't mean they're a Furry There are more reasons why someone would play as a Lizardfolk, a Minotaur, a Dragonborn, an Aracockra or Kenku, or any other race based on an animal They could like the asthetic They could want to feel like something that's not human or Elven or anything like that They could like the lore around the race Playing an animal race in D&D doesn't and shouldn't automatically make people assume your a fuckin Furry
Man you are such an amazing content creator you are by far my favorite in the DnD community and probably my favorite you tuber in general you should have at least a million subs with the amount of quality content you make. You’re the best man
Tabaxi: the only people who play them are people who want a character that can climb on walls, and furries (who will most likely say they are the other type)
It’s funny that I’d never play a character like that for fear for the assumption lol there’s kind of a race like that in WoW and I’ll refuse to ever pick it for that reason lol xD
@@Raumes513 Indeed, and tabaxi are probably one of the best races if you want to play a rouge, monk, or maybe even bard, here is what they get: +2 dex, +1 cha, darkvision, the ability to double your speed once per turn but if you use it you have to move 0 feet before you can use it again, climbing speed of 20 feet, claws that deal 1d4 unarmed damage, auto proficiency with perception and stealth, and finally the ability to speak common and one other language of your choice.
Naw, I play one right now because I really connect with the love of stories for RP purposes. Also, I find animal heads far easier to draw than humanoid ones if I want to make character art. Same reason I played a minotaur in a previous game.

I just started a campaign and one of my players is a tabaxi, so this does help me understand a bit more about tabaxi, even though they really just act like cats. Go figure
I have a tabaxi named Kuro and he’s one of my favorites His fixation is people, meaning humanoid races and cultures. He’ll jump from one to another depending on where he is, and it makes him so fun to play. He’s a monk/moon druid and he fights using his claws and martial arts, and also uses wild shape to become like a bear and shit. By far one of my favorites
They'll be fascinated by dust, until they sneeze with a *_"Kahjeet!"_* and accidentally knocks down the final wall of their rectangular house right as it was about to get put in place.
The Cat Lord also appeared in Planescape (Monstrous Compendium I), where she (actually a cat lady) was one of the animal lords of the Beastlands. She was a "quasigod", who could shift between human and panther forms, and she was busy helping the cats and other felines throughout the multiverse. Also, an animal lord may die, and then another spirit takes its place. So we may have different Cat Lords throughout D&D editions.
I'm playing a thief rogue-bard right now. It's nice to have tons of points in dexerty and charisma and have magic that benefits by your charisma. I recommend it a lot!
Feliformia (also Feloidea) is a suborder within the order Carnivora consisting of "cat-like" carnivorans, including cats (large and small), hyenas, mongooses, viverrids, and related taxa. Feliformia stands in contrast to the other suborder of Carnivora, Caniformia (also Canoidea, "dog-like" carnivorans).
On Amazon you can get plastic sets for about $20 if I remember correctly. Stone and metal sets are going to be a lot more expensive though (I lucked out with an amethyst set for about $50), but you could get some very beautiful sets if you're lucky.
I've got a Tabaxi Bard in my character backlog that I'd like to play. I want him obsessed with filling out his own life's story with adventures to outshine all others. He'll occasionally excuse himself to go cough up a hairball, which he considers to be a most distasteful act to do in front of others. I'll have him go College of Glamour and seek to emulate the majesty of the displacer beast, his favorite magical creature.
I played an awakened cat once. Some of the highlights include jumping into and then scattering the wizards paperwork to a loan for which he was applying, jumping from rope to rope on a bridge, then falling off and cartwheeling through the air to the river below, sleeping in places inconvenient for others, and of course, extorting a man for money by knocking things off his high shelves.
the khajiit are based on the tabaxi not the other way around. TSR first published the tabaxi in the fiend folio back in 1981. the elder scrolls arena (the first game in the series) came out in 1994
Guys for those panicking, Hyenas are not Felines. You're not dumb. They are Hyenadae, which is a suborder of feliformia. Felines are another distinct order of feliformia.

Currently playing a Tabaxi with my Dnd Group on discord and am really enjoying the RP. He's a hexblade whose patron is some mysterious cat creature with one purple eye. It's fun playing a Warlock who is not an edgelord.
I'm a tabaxi warlock in my current game named "Sails for Tails", and I have a lot of fun when I get the opportunity to RP as him. Frankly, I'll likely keep him around to use in a bunch of games and one shots over the years to come. He's my shot at a non-evil warlock who serves a Marid noble lady in exchange for forgotten stories of the sea that only the water itself knows. He honestly doesn't care about how the party's loot is split, he just wants to collect stories and participate in adventures that are worthy of stories themselves to bring back to his home village.
You're not out of touch, mate. I've spent literal months roleplaying as Undertale Multiverse characters with just one other person. I'm still not over it. It's my life now.
Hold up. . .hyenas are feline? they most definitely are not. I'm a game ranger with a Bachelor's in Nature conservation. Hyenas are of the family Hyaenidae, which technically neither feline or canine, however its is much closer to the canine family. This is due to tooth structure and toe formation, as well as pack dynamics. Teeth is closer to dogs than cats, they don't have retractable claws and there bone structure is closer to dogs than cats, and in hyenas the leader of the pack is female, which is the same as dogs, while cats have males as the leader. Man whoever told you they are feline is just plain wrong.

As I've stated, the BEST show - an army of degenerate nerds being bullied into competent leaders
If you ever make a video about Kenkus, you have to use clips of other videos you made to create it.
“Basically a YTP”
bruh. that's actually hype
Y e s
I chose Tabaxi because I can relate to them. He’s easily distracted and lazy. My character is enchanted by shiny objects even if they aren’t worth anything, they just need to be shiny. He’s also a charlatan who likes to convince people that the random junk he’s selling is actually worth something. He has gold but doesn’t really know it’s true value, to him they are just shiny pieces.
“I’m not a furry, I swear!”
(The rest of the party consisting of a Dragonborn, Kenku, Lizardfolk, and Minotuar) "Bruh, c'mon!"
You are now. Welcome brother or sister, we’ve been expecting you.😁
Me playing a leonin druid: its just for the extra mivement speed guys, i promise
Oh my fuckin God
Just because someone plays as a animal like race dosen't mean they're a Furry
There are more reasons why someone would play as a Lizardfolk, a Minotaur, a Dragonborn, an Aracockra or Kenku, or any other race based on an animal
They could like the asthetic
They could want to feel like something that's not human or Elven or anything like that
They could like the lore around the race
Playing an animal race in D&D doesn't and shouldn't automatically make people assume your a fuckin Furry
@@ancientreddragon5617 it 100% makes people assume it. But please... its just a joke, chill out, everyone knows not all tabaxi players are furries.
Are we just going to ignore the fact that he changed his logo and it looks amazing
It turns out hyenas aren't felines or canines they have their own family with similarities to both called Hyaenidae... The more you know!
So they are kinda like catdogs
I was hoping someone would point this out
@@monhunterz5430 Now you just reminded me of the cartoon opening. Noice.
Yeah, except they share much much more traits with canines
Man you are such an amazing content creator you are by far my favorite in the DnD community and probably my favorite you tuber in general you should have at least a million subs with the amount of quality content you make. You’re the best man
Plot twist: this was just an exception for Logan to show us cat videos
Thanks man, tabaxi don't have much known lore so thanks for DMs
Tabaxi: the only people who play them are people who want a character that can climb on walls, and furries (who will most likely say they are the other type)
And people who played Khajiit in TES. Just kidding, those are also still furries.
I literally want to play one to basically just copy something from skyrim, the khajiit merchants that hang out outside cities and sell you stuff.
It’s funny that I’d never play a character like that for fear for the assumption lol there’s kind of a race like that in WoW and I’ll refuse to ever pick it for that reason lol xD
@@Raumes513 Indeed, and tabaxi are probably one of the best races if you want to play a rouge, monk, or maybe even bard, here is what they get:
+2 dex, +1 cha, darkvision, the ability to double your speed once per turn but if you use it you have to move 0 feet before you can use it again, climbing speed of 20 feet, claws that deal 1d4 unarmed damage, auto proficiency with perception and stealth, and finally the ability to speak common and one other language of your choice.
Naw, I play one right now because I really connect with the love of stories for RP purposes. Also, I find animal heads far easier to draw than humanoid ones if I want to make character art. Same reason I played a minotaur in a previous game.
-You're sleeping peacefully
-You're woken up by a rustling sound somewhere in your room.
-"It's nothing", you think, going back to sleep.
-Just before you close your eyes, you see a sillouette of a man standing over your bed.
-Then you hear the words you'll never forget: Easy Roller Dice
-The sound of those words still send shivers down your spine to this day.
I just started a campaign and one of my players is a tabaxi, so this does help me understand a bit more about tabaxi, even though they really just act like cats. Go figure
I have a tabaxi named Kuro and he’s one of my favorites
His fixation is people, meaning humanoid races and cultures. He’ll jump from one to another depending on where he is, and it makes him so fun to play.
He’s a monk/moon druid and he fights using his claws and martial arts, and also uses wild shape to become like a bear and shit. By far one of my favorites
I heard other cat folk and thought "when was there a Basically Leonin video?" lol
I will now take the o from Leonin
They'll be fascinated by dust, until they sneeze with a *_"Kahjeet!"_* and accidentally knocks down the final wall of their rectangular house right as it was about to get put in place.
Do you want to play a furry Skyrim meme with ADHD? Well, have I got a treat for you!
I mistakenly let the tabaxii player in my campaign buy Boots of Speed. Now, I've got a Cat-Human with Zoomies
I see you are a man of culture when you use Nyanta as a reference! Log Horizon will return to season 3 January
THE BEST NEWS!
The cat lord is more than like a animal lord, a sort of deity for particular type of animal, like a dog lord, an eagle lord, a pig lord, etc.
I realy apreciate the log horizon jokes, that anime has been gone for so long, thank goodness it is comming back in january.
I very much appreciate seeing something from Log Horizon. Such an underrated anime
Hyenas are neither canine or feline. They’ve got a family all their own called “Hyaenidae”.
Does it count a fox too?
@@justnoob8141 No, foxes are canines.
I’m glad I’m not the only one that knew this
The Cat Lord also appeared in Planescape (Monstrous Compendium I), where she (actually a cat lady) was one of the animal lords of the Beastlands. She was a "quasigod", who could shift between human and panther forms, and she was busy helping the cats and other felines throughout the multiverse. Also, an animal lord may die, and then another spirit takes its place. So we may have different Cat Lords throughout D&D editions.
“J,ayzargo approves”
J*ay*zargo? You mean J'zargo?
Nyanta representing all the cats at the "Horizon." Good stuff.

Judging by that description, I think I might secretly be a Tabaxi.
thinking about that post that's like "tabaxi and khajiit are how we like to imagine cats would be as people, goblins are how they actually would be"
I plan on playing a tabaxi based off my cat, Morgana. She'll probably be either a bard or rogue.
*Rogue
Rouge is a color.
Dang it, I just spent like 5 minutes looking at stone dice and wishing I had money
I don't even PLAY ttrpgs myself, and I STILL want them
On Amazon you can get plastic sets for about $20 if I remember correctly. Stone and metal sets are going to be a lot more expensive though (I lucked out with an amethyst set for about $50), but you could get some very beautiful sets if you're lucky.
@@rozu7772 you can get plastic sets for a lot cheaper. It’s metal sets that are around 20 bucks. And then stone sets tend to be around 60
Ah Nyanta. I see you are also a man of culture uwu
love my Tabaxi bard, poor little guy had a lot more character development than I thought he would. Vikas is a pretty cool cat
what are the ODDS that this came out when I am playing a tabaxi druid every 1-3 Saturdays.
Same! I'm playing my first campaign as a tabaxi Thief rogue - bard
The return of easy roller dice, it's been so long
the khajiit are based on the tabaxi not the other way around. TSR first published the tabaxi in the fiend folio back in 1981. the elder scrolls arena (the first game in the series) came out in 1994
That kiddy pool pun is so underrated XD XD XD
Guys for those panicking, Hyenas are not Felines. You're not dumb. They are Hyenadae, which is a suborder of feliformia. Felines are another distinct order of feliformia.
Finally the cat boys!
Dude,literally..... the way you tell the races or monster make my entire fucking day! i really love your content its purely high quality
“If you’ve got a fascinating tale, you can turn it into literal wealth by talking to a Tabaxi”.
Scott Cawthon: Oh darn, the global economy’s destabilized again.
Currently playing a Tabaxi with my Dnd Group on discord and am really enjoying the RP. He's a hexblade whose patron is some mysterious cat creature with one purple eye. It's fun playing a Warlock who is not an edgelord.
i have a hard time not choosing tabaxi because i am allergic to seeing the perception proficiency not filled in.
ah, a man of culture.
Undertale. That's a name I haven't heard in a long time
And a bad time
I've been hearing it constantly since 2015
“They gain and drop interests on a whim”
Maybe I am a Tabaxi
Hecc yeh, Nyanta doesn’t get enough love!
Yes captain kitty chef is the best girl in log harizon.
Khajiit are actually tabaxi memes. (Tabaxi date to the Fiend Folio, published in 1981.) The rest is spot on.
That reminds me, Log hoirzon season 3 incomming!
Wait! Season 3 is a go?!? Praise the anime gods!
PRAISE THE LORD
Taxonomists seem to disagree with you considering they classified Hyenas as feliformia not caniformia
love the content it’s 4AM where i am at yet i stayed up ton watch this because it’s just that good
To the horizon is a joke to log horizon with the character. you sir have good taste

"Feats? No, M'aiq only has his paws for travel. Feets are optional."
"Spellcasters used to be so serious, so prepared. Now, they are all more spontaneous."
"Some people will call themselves 'Pathfinders', but they are always following behind."
"So many different classes in these lands, and yet none with any prestige."
"People claim such strange ancestry. M'aiq only knows his father named M'aiq."
"When a friend dies, it is tragic, but I have found a new one is met shortly after. When they move, that is difficult."
"Have you ever battled a Gazebo? I doubt it. Few live to speak of such conflicts."
"Sanity is overrated. Honor is invaluable. M'aiq does not keep track of either."
"People in this land will lie when first they meet a stranger. M'aiq enjoys this custom."
"Can you persuade me? M'aiq has his doubts, though when you put it like that..."
"Sweet Rolls are valuable. You would be at an advantage to have two rolls."
"M'aiq is more than proficient in all his fields of expertise."
"Skill does not come with rank. You may find that skill is pushed to the background."
"Firearms? Arms made out of fire? M'aiq does not believe these stories."
"M'aiq is transient, yes, but peaceful. M'aiq brings wisdom, not mayhem."
"M'aiq does not know all the rules of this land. This is for the lawyers to know."
"M'aiq would rather be a servant in a shack than the master in a dungeon."
"Munchkins sound cute and friendly. Do not be fooled by this."
"If a road has many branches or if it is straight as a rail, it does not matter. It will lead to warm sands."
"M'aiq heard a gatekeeper was executed. He has met many charming people since."
"M'aiq is in need of a long rest. It would be a shame if M'aiq's rest was interrupted."

One of my characters died to these damn cats. And you know why? Because it thought it was fcking funny
I made a tabaxi bard who was a saber tooth tiger (I know their leopards but come on it’s fantasy) who has to become the college of blades after he got kicked out of a formal bard college since his large fangs disabled him from playing the flute, so he took it to string instruments, namely a guitar with two obsidian axe heads he sharpens with his fangs on the sides

My wife nearly died from laughter at the Cat lord intro. Thought you'd like to know.
Hyenas are not cats either. Hyenas belong to their own thing
My favorite build revolving around Tabaxi traits is my hyperactive Tabaxi wild sorcerer named Jitters. He is made around chaos and chaos only.
