An artificer, wrestling with an idea they want to make true, retreats to the forest for a few weeks to be alone and empty their head. They put many thoughts to paper in messy, scrawled writing. they bring tools and food and stay out many days and nights beneath the canopy next to a stream. As the Artificer works, barely ever moving from their bench, the Chwinga grow comfortable, friendly even, some even going as far as climbing onto the table or eagerly inspecting small pouches of black powder. Slowly, ideas turn to blueprints, and blueprints to prototypes, and prototypes to a working wheel-lock musket. overjoyed with their new tool the artificer scoops up their working blueprint and sprints back to town, leaving the Chwinga with the failed plans. Chwinga with a gun.

Had a chwinga become fascinated by the party paladin. Every morning it greets her wearing "armor" that it made out of bark and with a bark shield that it painted with berry juice into a likeness of the symbol of Lathander.

Perhaps they loved the people that lived in that area and had to painfully watch as their world came crashing down, perhaps they linger on out of respect for those that lived in that city? perhaps they long for someone to come by and rebuild the ruins so that life will once again come to the place they call home? hmm, interesting idea for a campaign, not sure how to fit it, nvm i figured it out

For the short time I played Tomb of Annihilation my tiefling wizard actually managed to get a custom Chwinga gift of just vision rather than dark vision as he was hopelessly farsighted and lost his glasses at sea.

I used Chwinga in my game exactly like this, made them elemental spirits that sometimes just *happen* when lightning strikes the earth. They eat that which has burned, and reclaim that which has been forgotten by Man. One character got a Charm of Silver Dragons - let him cast Spirit Guardians, once, and they'd appear as long-tailed silver dragons. Used it to walk through a horde of undead invading a beach. It was amazing :D

"Una thogga chwinga!" comically yelled the little creature, its masked visage suddenly rendered silly and endearing. It ran towards the hunched orc, who giggled in disbelief. His giggles stopped when the valley's resident munchkin shattered his leg in half with a single swing of its club.

It was a peculiar spell for a Necromancer to equip, but it came in useful. Vengeance and Thokk now shared the puzzled expression, looking at the pond with curiosity. Tar began walking towards the pond, looking down for a slain beast. Vengeance and Thokk followed, keeping an eye on the yelling creature and watching their step. After a few moments of careful observation, Tar found the poor squished frog, cradling it in her hands. "Aww, poor Theodore." With a flourish, Tar began casting Raise Dead on the poor perished frog. Vengeance looked on in admiration of Tar's kindness with a sigh. Thokk knew exactly what was being cast, and cringed slightly as the frog was slowly being brought back to life.
I LOVE the Chwinga. They’re such cute lil fellas. I’ve always imagined them as curious like children, but curious about things like peoples relationships, often acting as messengers just because they love to see conflicts resolved. I’m currently running the Tombs, and I loved these puppies so much that I put like 25 of them in the main cuneiform tablet that my players use to decipher old Omuan. I’ve also made them look like the trickster gods for a bit of flair, with skull masks of sumonsters and eblises. They act as little messengers and helpers and they chill out in the bag of holding. Love the ideas you have for elemental diversity! Might use those in the future.
I'm imagining an Elf Druid bringing one of these along. Then the Jaded Drow Rogue and Thuggish Half Orc Barbarian who initially hated it, grow to love it so much that they literally burn down an entire castle because the noble kidnapped it.
Chwinga are great, Runesmith is great. Clicked this video as soon as I saw the notification. BUT *ALAN WATTS* . Logan has always been my favorite D&D youtuber, but now he has officially won over my heart. I started reading a lot of ancient Chinese literature last year, and through that I found Alan Watts. His audio lectures have been such an amazing thing to listen to for a while. They really get you thinking, and I'm glad Logan has also gotten into him.

Finally, something that is completely new to me! I have always wondered what it was like to be entirely introduced by one of these videos, and I was not disappointed!

They occasionally bestow gifts and blessings on those they deem worthy/find interesting, but those gifts and blessings are always a little...off. I had no idea these existed, and when I saw the description I thought they were just a creature he *wanted* to see in DND. (like tardigrades) I was pleasantly surprised! I will find a way to make them integral to my setting. I dunno. Maybe a forest with them?
I love these little guys so much. I included a friendly one in a short campaign I made. The only Common phrase he knows is 'ball in cup', referencing one of those Zelda BotW push-rock-in-hole korok puzzles. And then he pops out of the rock, bc he is the spirit of that specific rock. He'll randomly give charms that he thinks will be helpful, but also he has the reasoning abilities of like a toddler so rarely has a blessing you will actually want, but will probably still be moderately convenient!
Alright, So what you're saying is, I'm about to make these just a kind of inherent thing in my campaign. Chwinga, Everywhere. Use it like inspiration. If they do something cool, And pass a 50/50 check, Boom! Power-up. A little chwingie boi comes out from the Elephant Ear plant, And hands you a tiny wooden carving.
Alright, this is going STRAIGHT into my setting. I'm yeeting the whole jar, I don't care, there's going to be chwingas everywhere. Under your pillow, in your boots and even in the stall while you poop. My players may not like this, but it's only chwingas from here on out.

This video inspired me to make my current character, a Swarmkeeper ranger with a horde of Chwinga that follow her around, that set up swinging log traps, place bear traps around and serve as comedic relief for the game. Chwinga really are great
Chwinga can also be affected by the environment. For example, in Icewind Dale, blizzards have a chance to make Chwinga, and I wish I was joking, go insane, causing them to give malicious gifts like a poisoned berry that deals one poison damage, or throw a tiny snowball at a player
I have not seen a comment about this so I will say it, cast conjour minor elemental and summon 8 of these Challenge Rating 0 creatures to give charms to people if you make yourself interesting enough. (If you argue with your dungeon master, you may even play a pact of the chain warlock with a familiar of these things, trust me they allowed gazers, these are no worse but better roleplay) I am playing pact of the genie eladrin (at this point pact of the elementals) that is themed around chwinga, who is going to multiclass into clockwork soul sorcerer so that they can change the elements of their spells into whatever season it may be at the time. PS, this is in a hardcore campaign setting where a long rest is one week and a short rest is 8 hours. If I do get to the point to have access to limited wishes, I will use it to give supernatural charms to people(as all charms are about 4th level and lower in nature)
Chwinga are not to be everywhere. They are from Chult which has a completely separate history of existence compared to the rest of the world. The reason Chwinga are in Icewind Dale is because some of the original settlers of Good Mead (one of the Ten Towns) were from Chult and Chwinga "followed them".
These things sound like they fill the narrative role I would normally give a Brownie. I've always loved the idea of tiny magical dudes that can just watch over your house and give you sweet gifts if they think you're cool.

Found some of these in Rime of the Frostmaiden campaign. My ranger made friends with a group of them and then one was following me for three days straight, mimicking everything I did. It was adorable. He my familiar now, his name: Chuck.
Funny you should mention Alan Watts at the beginning; my current character in a Pathfinder game is a Vanara (monkey man) monk/cleric, whom to roleplay better I looked up stuff about Taoist philosophy. That's how I discovered Alan Watts, and I loved the way he described the Tao. Furthermore, I based my character off a Colobus monkey which has black and white fur, much like how most photos of Alan Watts show him with a black beard streaked with white, so now I'm trying to learn how to draw well enough to do a portrait of my character as "what if Alan Watts was a Colobus monkey?", cause that's how I visualize him.
ive been using one of these little lads in my campaign since session one as a little friend of the party and it fills me with joy that this video now exists to share the true glory of my children with the world.
I might need to tweak the race, but I love my chwinga wildfire Druid Twig. He doesn't talk really, so he just uses produce flame to light a candle on his head, and then control flames to make it display pictures that he uses to communicate.

Alan Watts is PHENOMENAL. I’m a Nichiren Buddhist so I was in a good position to fully understand everything he was talking about. There is NO ONE better at explaining Buddhism in terms westerners can understand. Seriously I can’t think of any other “public intellectual” who’s on his level.
In a one (three) shot I homebrewed and ran the party was searching for a girl that was taken by a Peryton (and was having the party haunted by humanoid shadows). The girl had a Chawinga as her imagination friend, and that particular one helped the party reach the Peryton’s lair by having the Chawinga of the forest grow a vine bridge to the castle ruins
I played on last virtual adventure league dnd weekend, the entire Tier 1 sessions for season 10, rime of the frostmaiden. And got my first encounter to these little fellas, they are so amazing and cute, a really good GM can use them to flavor so much a story. God damm there was even one that made us all cry... Was beautiful

I have an adventure concept now because of this video. The party is hired to guard an auction house. The items are all pretty standard fair: gargoyles as living statues, a manticore hide, dragon scales and such. There is one highlight item meant as a centerpiece: a Chwinga. Rumor has it that it hasn't given it's charm yet which means the buyer has a good chance to get something unique so it's worth is on the potential not the ability itself. It gets stolen by thieves and you can go from there. Reward could be the Chwinga imprints on the party and gives it a special charm. Something simple that others can build on, I'm sure I'm not the only one that's thought of this though.

After a few moments of careful observation, Tar found the poor squished frog, cradling it in her hands. "Aww, poor Theodore." With a flourish, Tar began casting Raise Dead on the poor perished frog. Vengeance looked on in admiration of Tar's kindness with a sigh. Thokk knew exactly what was being cast, and cringed slightly as the frog was slowly being brought back to life.

I LOVE the Chwinga. They’re such cute lil fellas. I’ve always imagined them as curious like children, but curious about things like peoples relationships, often acting as messengers just because they love to see conflicts resolved.
I’m currently running the Tombs, and I loved these puppies so much that I put like 25 of them in the main cuneiform tablet that my players use to decipher old Omuan. I’ve also made them look like the trickster gods for a bit of flair, with skull masks of sumonsters and eblises. They act as little messengers and helpers and they chill out in the bag of holding. Love the ideas you have for elemental diversity! Might use those in the future.
I'm imagining an Elf Druid bringing one of these along. Then the Jaded Drow Rogue and Thuggish Half Orc Barbarian who initially hated it, grow to love it so much that they literally burn down an entire castle because the noble kidnapped it.
Chwinga are great, Runesmith is great. Clicked this video as soon as I saw the notification. BUT *ALAN WATTS* . Logan has always been my favorite D&D youtuber, but now he has officially won over my heart.
I started reading a lot of ancient Chinese literature last year, and through that I found Alan Watts. His audio lectures have been such an amazing thing to listen to for a while. They really get you thinking, and I'm glad Logan has also gotten into him.

@@atomicq3603 It is nature themed- and Fae isn't strictly fairy; for instance, Hags also could be archfae patrons. Chwingas realistically are closer to fae than elementals, too.

I love these little guys so much. I included a friendly one in a short campaign I made. The only Common phrase he knows is 'ball in cup', referencing one of those Zelda BotW push-rock-in-hole korok puzzles. And then he pops out of the rock, bc he is the spirit of that specific rock. He'll randomly give charms that he thinks will be helpful, but also he has the reasoning abilities of like a toddler so rarely has a blessing you will actually want, but will probably still be moderately convenient!

Alright, this is going STRAIGHT into my setting. I'm yeeting the whole jar, I don't care, there's going to be chwingas everywhere. Under your pillow, in your boots and even in the stall while you poop. My players may not like this, but it's only chwingas from here on out.

Chwinga can also be affected by the environment. For example, in Icewind Dale, blizzards have a chance to make Chwinga, and I wish I was joking, go insane, causing them to give malicious gifts like a poisoned berry that deals one poison damage, or throw a tiny snowball at a player
I have not seen a comment about this so I will say it, cast conjour minor elemental and summon 8 of these Challenge Rating 0 creatures to give charms to people if you make yourself interesting enough. (If you argue with your dungeon master, you may even play a pact of the chain warlock with a familiar of these things, trust me they allowed gazers, these are no worse but better roleplay) I am playing pact of the genie eladrin (at this point pact of the elementals) that is themed around chwinga, who is going to multiclass into clockwork soul sorcerer so that they can change the elements of their spells into whatever season it may be at the time. PS, this is in a hardcore campaign setting where a long rest is one week and a short rest is 8 hours. If I do get to the point to have access to limited wishes, I will use it to give supernatural charms to people(as all charms are about 4th level and lower in nature)
Chwinga are not to be everywhere. They are from Chult which has a completely separate history of existence compared to the rest of the world.
The reason Chwinga are in Icewind Dale is because some of the original settlers of Good Mead (one of the Ten Towns) were from Chult and Chwinga "followed them".
These things sound like they fill the narrative role I would normally give a Brownie. I've always loved the idea of tiny magical dudes that can just watch over your house and give you sweet gifts if they think you're cool.
Idea: Chwinga as an adorable warlock pact of the chain alternate familiar, most likely of the feywild warlock.
So I know they're not beasts, but Swarmkeeper with chwingas. Just send out your pikmin to smack stuff

Found some of these in Rime of the Frostmaiden campaign. My ranger made friends with a group of them and then one was following me for three days straight, mimicking everything I did. It was adorable.

Funny you should mention Alan Watts at the beginning; my current character in a Pathfinder game is a Vanara (monkey man) monk/cleric, whom to roleplay better I looked up stuff about Taoist philosophy. That's how I discovered Alan Watts, and I loved the way he described the Tao. Furthermore, I based my character off a Colobus monkey which has black and white fur, much like how most photos of Alan Watts show him with a black beard streaked with white, so now I'm trying to learn how to draw well enough to do a portrait of my character as "what if Alan Watts was a Colobus monkey?", cause that's how I visualize him.

ive been using one of these little lads in my campaign since session one as a little friend of the party and it fills me with joy that this video now exists to share the true glory of my children with the world.
I might need to tweak the race, but I love my chwinga wildfire Druid Twig. He doesn't talk really, so he just uses produce flame to light a candle on his head, and then control flames to make it display pictures that he uses to communicate.

In a one (three) shot I homebrewed and ran the party was searching for a girl that was taken by a Peryton (and was having the party haunted by humanoid shadows). The girl had a Chawinga as her imagination friend, and that particular one helped the party reach the Peryton’s lair by having the Chawinga of the forest grow a vine bridge to the castle ruins

I played on last virtual adventure league dnd weekend, the entire Tier 1 sessions for season 10, rime of the frostmaiden. And got my first encounter to these little fellas, they are so amazing and cute, a really good GM can use them to flavor so much a story. God damm there was even one that made us all cry... Was beautiful

I have an adventure concept now because of this video.
The party is hired to guard an auction house. The items are all pretty standard fair: gargoyles as living statues, a manticore hide, dragon scales and such. There is one highlight item meant as a centerpiece: a Chwinga. Rumor has it that it hasn't given it's charm yet which means the buyer has a good chance to get something unique so it's worth is on the potential not the ability itself. It gets stolen by thieves and you can go from there. Reward could be the Chwinga imprints on the party and gives it a special charm.
Something simple that others can build on, I'm sure I'm not the only one that's thought of this though.
