A quick update regarding the Quixel Bridge portion of this video. Quixel assets are not free to use in paid or promotional work outside of Unreal Engine. I mentioned that there are stipulations on using the assets within Blender. I should have been more specific. You may modify the assets in blender and then use them for profit inside of Unreal. If you are able to buy a plan then I believe this changes. The assets are still very useful for practice and creating personal works that you have no monetary gain from. I apologize for not being more clear on this.
There is no mention of paid or unpaid work in Quixel. The assets can not be rendered for free in anything except Unreal Engine without a paid account. Their assets, their rules
They're not chasing down hobbyists who use them in Blender realistically. There's no issue using them for personal projects in practice, as the likelihood of any comeback from them is essentially zero. Using it for commercial projects is clearly a much higher risk.
The stipulation reads as this: "This unlimited Megascans access is licensed for use with Unreal Engine and Twinmotion only and treats Megascans assets as UE-Only Content under the Content License Agreement." In short, if you use it as shown you would be breaking the copyright. "There's no issue using them for personal projects in practice, as the likelihood of any comeback from them is essentially zero." Depends on what "personal" means, if used for practice and learning, 3d-printing, or a custom desktop for yourself. Yeah, you're likely never going to have a problem. But if you mean "personal" as a non-commercial project that you share? You might just get in trouble like that. Honestly, it's a neat library, but if it's just a hobby project that you intend to share you might as well avoid the headache and just look up any of the good free libraries that are around. Especially if you're just taking a shortcut when modelling or setting up a scene in Blender, you can just modify the asset as you want as it becomes necessary if you have a CC0 or similar base asset.
@@dorex2007 to all intents and purposes it was accurate though. The truth is you can use it for personal work and won't get chased by Epic. And he said that for commercial usage people needed to be aware of the legalities. It's not literally true, but it is practically true, which is usually more helpful anyway.
oh i 100% used your dispersed glass shader for that thumbnail. that shader is carrying that thumbnail big time. so appreciate you for that--and for the lil shoutout 😁. video was awesome. and the thumbnail on it was 🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌
@@attimp4 you know what, i actually looked at all your thumbnails and realized how important it is to have a singular focal subject in the thumbnail. coz i was not doing that at all, so i have to attribute a lot of credit to you for that video man. and i 'm definitely hopping on that patreon asap. can't way to dig deeper into your process. cheers!
PureRef is one of my favorite things to use as an artist! I also showed it to my coworkers and some of them also use it if they have to write something and dont want multiple windows open :D And thanks for all the other resources, I didn't know Blender had so many features!
I'm an Indy comics artist and I want to second your praise of Sketchfab as a great reference source for 2D artists. Soon they will be joining other model providers in the 3D model space, renamed *FAB,* and hopefully, ALL the catalog will adopt the Sketchfab viewer. Another similar source is *PixelSquid,* which provides a set of angled views for its models. The selection is somewhat limited but growing. Lastly, the venerable SketchUp *3D Warehouse* has a "secret" feature that allows you to rotate a 3D view of its models. Thanks for this video!
When the palette in blender got redone, it actually had or has issues. You could not import ase and gimp palettes without an error. I've fixed this. I still need upload the code so the addon gets fixed. My version also has some extra code to order the colors better. Mine can also import css files and grab the colors from then
Speaking of the very last tip... may I ask how you accomplished the look on 8:53 and 8:55? 🤩Was it using your Dispersed Glass Shader, or is there another trick up the metaphorical sleeve? More specifically, that glassy, marble-like appereance *chef's kiss*
I really liked your video and you do an impressive job but... The first thing Skillshare requests with a free month of promotion is the credit card number, it does not give confidence
@@MichaelFlynn0 I can confirm that this feature has been there for many years. You must be doing something wrong. With a light selected (make sure the light is definitely selected before doing anything) either in the light properties panel (I.e where you change the light colour and brightness etc), or in the shader window, you’ll see the check box for using nodes with the light. Also make sure it’s a spot light if you want to do gobos. Do a Google search if having issues. Light nodes has been there since at least Blender 2.8…
Megascans / Quixel is NOT free for all applications. Specifically Blender. Here's an email I got from them Thank you for sharing the workaround with us! As a gentle reminder - please also note that you're currently subscribed to the Unreal Unlimited plan. With Unreal Unlimited, you're provided full access to the entire Megascans Library, free of charge. As such, all Megascans assets downloaded under this plan are considered UE-Only Content and are for end-use in Unreal Engine and Twinmotion only. This means that assets acquired with this plan cannot be rendered in any other DCC. ..
While I definitely do not recommend anyone use any of the Megascans assets in commissioned or promotional work, I think it's probably fine if you use them in personal work that you have no monetary gain from. Which is why I specified that they have regulations for using them in paid products. I do appreciate the comment though.
Should do you best to not simulate with default spheres as the mesh shape will cause strange deformations and weird interactions. If possible when simulation mesh you want to be evenly distributed quads or tris

I think you missed node wrangler in your video stache
The part about the scatter tool is one of the best little tips that I’ve seen for blender since I started. Thank you!
That "depth" checkbox absolutely killed me
A lot of people negate these little things - big W that you’re bringing light to them
The depth in navigation preference wass a gold tip for me ..even after using it for the past 5 years on and off as a hobbyist , this was useful

THAT FIRST TIP... UM WHAT LETS GOOOOOO
THANKS ATTI
no you
Using nodes on lights is cycles specific _ just putting it out there for the people who may be looking for it under evee ~!
this vid was super helpful, especially the reference stuff
Im so glad i watched this !!!
me too LOL
another little tip: use "," (or point on an american keyboard i guess) of the num block to zoom in of the currently chosen object.
Thank you for everything.

Sort of, it's a very old version of my first glass shader.
Thanks!
bruh i was hoping you gonna show us how to make your thumbnail photo. that stuff looks dope af
Same!

Nice. This is helpful.
I recommend Storboarder and PureRef all the time. I have used both tools since 2018 and they are great free tools. Great tips BTW.

omg yeas pleas anyone knows?
Hell yeah what is the image there from i ask too i wanna see a tutorial
hello. I made it. The tutorial for it went on my Patreon .
bro get the key "frame selected" and forget about "orbitiong around nothing"
Maybe they turned it off by default because each add-on adds start-up time. I mean, if you have a lot of add-ons, Blender starts really slowly.
very helpful thankssssss
I wish I could use these tools
