Never apologise for getting stuck in to a hard job, working your butt off and sweating. As a designer I think it is paramount that you have a true understanding of what it takes to transform something from start to finish. Experience on the ground is invaluable and will inform all that you do in the future. Great job! Nothing like actually being an active participant in the transformation of these spaces. You will forever be truly connected to this home you are building literally from the ground up. Hi from New Zealand again.
Me too…Christchurch ! Discovered Drew several weeks ago. Always fun to live vicariously through other peoples renovations. And I was thinking the same thing, much better if your designer knows what the hard graft is all about…not everyone can afford for all aspects to be carried out by a professional.
As someone who works in Hazmat and with all your Reno/demo plans I would recommend reaching out to a company in your area to get them to take samples of everything from drywall and joint compound for asbestos, to checking your paint layers for lead. Both are very prevalent in houses your age and huge health effect years down the road!
When you said you thought denim was sweatproof!!! That whole section made me laugh so hard…. and out loud, by myself. Would never hold it against you- instead, it makes me like you even more for being such a real and fun human!!! You really earned that pumpkin drink!!!!
Love it, Drew! As a former owner/steward of a very old house, I can offer this tiny piece of encouragement... remembering to breathe, and maintaining a sense of humor about absolutely EVERYTHING (especially the timing of things) is key! So many balls in the air can be overwhelming. We are all sending you loving energy.
I have a giant pad of newsprint paper. I take a marker and write step by step lists, in large print, of what needs to happen in the order it needs to happen for every area I'm renovating. Then I hang it somewhere nearby where I'm working and follow it step by step. I have these all over the house. I can take a breath, figure out what this area needs, write it down and then check things off one by one. That's the fun part!
Drew’s expression when the tiles keep falling on him. 😂 Bravo for all the hard work and for recognizing that paying someone to do this has it’s merits.
Drew, please wear a respirator in case you have lead. I enlarged some windows in an old 100-year-old farmhouse and ended up with elevated lead levels! Just an FYI. I rehabed houses for resale and loved watching the changes as I torn things out and replaced them. It is so satisfying.
You are right. Either one is a problem. If asbestos is found that is a game changer for a demo. Simply using a saw to enlarge the windows caused the lead from old paint to sift through the air. Luckily the insulation in my old farmhouse was not asbestos. Another place asbestos is often found is around water pipes and heat runs. My father-in-law was a steam fitter and dies of asbestosis.
The good thing about ripping out the dry wall in the kitchen is that it's a good opportunity to get the electricians in to install the wiring for more power points or new oven connection if you need it especially if the new layout is different so the power sockets for the fridge, microwave, range hood etc will be in a different location.
Oh my gosh! So many laugh out loud moments of complete empathy… and “I know what you’re going through” moments. I recently bought a little 1963 condo and I don’t know what the hell I’m doing half the time while renovating. So thanks for showing that even someone more experienced, like you, has those “oh shit, the wall just came off” moments. LOVING this! Thanks, Drew!
I love the keeping-it-real experience and filming. More helpful than watching the shows on the DIY channels, which makes the whole process look like it'll only take a weekend to accomplish! Better to REALLY know how it goes!

Drew your growth as a designer makes me feel like a proud parent!!! Just this video alone. I'm enjoying this series so much and you're inspiring me to work on my projects
I never comment, but Drew you literally have such a good eye for design and flow. I’m always so impressed by your videos. Even if I don’t understand what you’re doing, in the end I know it’s going to turn out amazing because you have a real talent for seeing the potential in a space. You’re an inspiration!
Cover your appliances! With any plastic! All that dust. And I don't know how houses are in California but the vents are super important when there's central heating and AC, so cover the vents too when demoing anything. Dust gets everywhere! You can also just cover with a plastic sheet the doorways to contain the dust to that one single room.
OMG! I was saying that as well! Protect the appliances and yes the AC vents need to be covered, this is why you cannot run your AC during demolition. Enjoyable video! I was laughing at the faces Drew was making!
Drew, you need to remove all items from kitchen first , stove, cabinet, electric plates, stove , fridge anything that can be damaged also cover all your lower cabinets with drop clothes to protect them. Always a lot of preparation before you start demo.
Yes, agreed. I totally appreciated that he was trying and is new at this but that wasn't a great way to demo. Every time a tile dropped I was cringing that it would damage a cabinet. I hope nothing got damaged in the process!
Good job Drew! But I would make this one little suggestion-next time you do demo, take out everything even if you are going to reuse it. Makes demo easier and keeps the items you are keeping clean. Can’t wait to see what comes next!
Keep in mind you’re going to want flooring that will take drips and spills without staining, and something you can mop/clean. So if you want the “raw” look, you’ll have to pour a durable, clear finish over it.

Please forgive me for laughing!!! Your facial expressions, sweat dilemma, soggy jeans, & demo disaster was priceless. I applaud you for pushing through. 👏
Oh the beginning made me laugh - all I could think of was "Cover the stove, cover the stove!" Such a man thing to do Drew! The number of times I've happened upon my man doing stuff like this with no regard for the collateral damage! You crack me up. Really enjoying being on this latest journey with you.
I screamed and laughed so hard watching this. I’m a newish homeowner, too, and it’s all so relatable. I can’t believe how the wall just came apart on you like that!
Good for you for jumping into the demo yourself! Listening to you talk about how hard it is to remove the tiles reminded me how years ago shortly after my divorce, I demo-ed the bathroom. There were one-inch tiles on the floor, and they came up one-by-one. I eventually realized that the work was very aggressive and therapeutic - I took out a lot of my feelings about the divorce on those tiles!
I was a workout workaholic. Ballet and yoga. When I did my own entire home redo. Down to the studs of my home. I too, was never more tired in my life. Also I don't know that I was ever more totally rewarded by myself and the experiences either. Good for you young one, good for you!

Hi, I was bien and raised in South America and I am familiar with the Colonial Spanish style. The dark wood ceilings, terracota floors, black antique lamps and ornaments /attachments, at the end they create a dark atmosphere. So, my recommendation is to watch for the dark tones you are selecting because at the end you can end up having dark living areas. Then people end up painting in white such black ceiling lamps... and every thing else ... 🤷🏻♀️😂Again, congrats on your new home!! 🎈
You are cute as a button! I am retired now but have spent many a years refinishing furniture and redoing my homes.. I love your channel because you are such a sweet human being. Keep being you and I can't wait to go on this journey with you!!
This is the funniest video you’ve ever done! Your face was hilarious when the wall came off in your hands! You’re doing a great job Drew. I can’t wait for the next update . X
I Never comment (though I am a faithful follower) but I had to come on and tell you just how funny and engaging you were in this video. I was laughing out loud! Thanks oh and also , you are doing a great job with the formatting. It feels cohesive. Have fun Drew!
That's just being human. Apparently most of us underestimate how long a project will take so whatever time you think it'll take, double that number. I'm just starting to break a lifetime bad habit of starting projects and never finishing them. Now I'm being more persistent and jury-rigging stuff together after I mess them up with my amateur efforts. It's really paying off.
That tile you love is gorgeous! However, think about how difficult cleaning a floor is when there are a lot of grooves for dirt and food to get trapped in!
Omg I love the contractors you are using! Roberto was so sweet, patient, and encouraging! And I totally applaud you for jumping in and doing so much of the work yourself that's so impressive!
I’m a designer and I appreciate how you emphasized how much hard work demo can be. The design shows on TV can leave DIYers feeling hopeless when they embark on a project like this. Renovations, even small ones, are hard work, time consuming, back breaking and create a ton of trash, and debris. But the rewards of a job properly, safely and well done are immeasurable. I can’t wait to see how you design this space Drew❤️
You cracked me up when you stopped and said "this is really hard" oh how I can relate! Seems like what I usually say during my projects!! Most of them....no probably all of them!😁
The "I got it!" Moments in this, are just everything. Kudos to you for taking on something you were unsure about. The kitchen is going to look beautiful I have no doubts.
This was very comical! I felt as if i were the one going through the demo myself! Thanks for a good laugh! I'm in awe how you've kept it together and not felt overwhelmed. You're attacking a lot of projects and doing a great job! This is a new experience to you & to me as well! Thanks for the ride! Lol
The home improvement shows make everything look so quick and easy. I help my husband with our renovations and my principal job is clean up and even that is not easy. You didn’t mention how heavy the bags of tile were. I think it’s great that you are interested in learning and doing things on your own. In the end it is much more meaningful to know that you had a hand in the construction of your own space.
Yes Demo is very destructive to to everything -not just what you are pulling down. You can easy damage appliances, ceilings, floors and light fixtures -
So nice of Roberto to take the time to teach you (and us) how to demo your kitchen 😊 Keep up the great work, Drew! This series has been so exciting and entertaining.
Such a fun video!! You’re so cute with your butt sweat. LOL I’m a degreed kitchen designer and I love what you’re doing. Please consider installing a new, wide window over the kitchen sink (that would span all the way across the entire width of the two existing windows on either side of the sink) since you’re already down to the studs. It will make a HUGE difference in making it feel more open and airy (especially since you took down all of the uppers in that area). If you ever need help or ideas, please let me know. I’m somewhat local.
I would so love to do this but any structural change on the exterior of the home (ie. a window) has to be permitted first! I will look into the idea of opening that full window up!
@@lonefox Yup - lot's of permits. And historical society or local group will have a say-so probably. Much much easier and practical to stay with " bones' of house and do your magic INSIDE
OMG I *literally* laughed out loud to your genuine reactions to the demo 🤣 You are literally the cutest!!! LOVED this video. So raw. So real. So honest!
I admire that you are raw in as far as “ya, I’m in there and working hard. This means I’m sweaty and dirty sometimes. Life isn’t always glamorous.” I love ya Drew!
This was hilarious, thank you so much for sharing this honest reality of diy. My husband and I have spent the last two years renovating our house from scratch and we were clueless diy newbie’s when we started but now are very capable and I’m really proud of what we’ve achieved. So keep at it because soon you will be too and you’ll enjoy looking back at theses early videos and realise just how far you’ve come.
Great to see you putting the hard work in Drew! Your excitement for this renovation is apparent. My thoughts on your design: I’d paint the butlers pantry dark as well as then it will be less obvious from the dining room. Also have you looked at quartz or engineered stone countertops? Marble is expensive and easily stained plus needs a lot of maintenance. Quartz or engineered stone is more durable and low maintenance. I do love the design direction you’re taking with the dark wood and Spanish influence. Oh and don’t forget your lighting and electrical outlet planning before sheet rocking and tiling.
You look like you are having so much fun and loving this new direction in life. I'm also loving see more Marie in your videos. You guys seem like you have the best friendship 🥰
Your intro of you trying to get the tiles off had me in stitches, just reminded me of my daughter who has just bought her first house and also redecorating/remodeling. She always has to bring me in usually for advice or show them how to do it all, bless. It's hard for you all starting out , but getting the builder in, to show others was a genius idea.
Anyone who has ever done any demo or other hard physical work can thoroughly empathize with your drenched and filthy appearance when you are in the middle of it! I like that you are sharing all aspects of this new house journey!
Love that you showed reality- the mess, tile removal is a bite, real sweat, etc. We’ve done a lot of demo and renovation. It’s hard work and so worth it.
Love these videos so much. As someone who grew up with brick flooring in the kitchen, they were very beautiful but extremely difficult to keep clean. If you go that route PLEASE make sure you have them sealed otherwise it will absorb absolutely every spill
This! Terracota and brick are such bitches to clean. I had them ripped out because i just couldn't stand knowing that they weren't as clean as I wanted them to be.
Before I even start watching, I just want to say, that I feel so happy when I see a new video from you! Your videos are just so well done and fun to watch :)
I'm living for these renovation videos. I appreciate how quickly it's going! Usually when people buy a house and are going to post videos of the reno process, it's so spread out over months and months
Drew - I admire your 'go for it" attitude. Many years ago we bought a 1890's home...that we ended up doing a ton of work on...the former owner had taken the kitchen and made it into a play room. The fridge, gas stove and sink (very tiny) were put into the pantry. Well - we fixed all that...you are off to a great start. Rooting for Team Lone Fox!!!
Wonderful vlog episode! Roberto's the BEST- you were so right to back-up and get some expert advice on demo. But I have to say your eagerness to just go-for-it and learn is exciting. Thanks for your honesty. The camera work, editing, music ( loved the music) all really perfect.
I've just got through a 9 month reno on my house (did it all ourselves) it is sooo stressful in the process and takes so much work but it is all worth it in the end. There's something about pouring your blood, sweat and tears into something that makes you so much more appreciative and proud of the final result. Keep going and take care of yourself.
Your face expressions are so easy to read! You made me laugh so hard, only because you reacted just like I would have! Bless your heart, it was heart breaking actually. Also that was amazing the expert came over so quickly, you were a good comedy act together?😂🤣
Don't give a second thought to the state we will see you in -- I admire your grit, determination and willingness to dig in and put your own sweat and effort into your vision. It's a bonus that you're so entertaining and fun to watch. Thank you for sharing all of this journey and not just the pretty parts.
Watching the demo was truly entertaining. Seeing the holes, falling tiles on you and the entire section coming down all at once - you couldn’t have planned it any better. The expression on your face was just like mine! Lol God bless you for hanging in there.
I had no idea one could sweat through jeans either! I'm always learning something on your channel, Drew! You're working really hard, you are going to sweat and you're so adorable, nothing can take away from that. Thanks for sharing the plans of the kitchen and taking us along with you and sharing your home's journey.
I'm also renovating my home and filming it all. After years of watching you I love how we're in a similar process at the same time!!!! Even though you're on another level ofcourse. Hugs from the Netherlands
Horror flash backs to trying to remove my tile entry back in March. "It's so hard," was waaayyyy too relatable. Removing tiling is SO much more tiring and time consuming than I thought.
Thank you for your video. This is the kind of thing you need to do it to realize the amplitude of the mess. Last year we demolished our kitchen, and I could not believe the damaged we caused in the process. In one of the previous video you expressed wanting to save the vintage bathroom tiles, and my first reaction was -- Drew, hope that could be possible, but don't have high expectations lol!
Loved this video. Really appreciate the honesty you're showing, and how you're approaching the reno. Great editing and flow. The jeans flopping onto the floor was hilarious 😂
Wow! You can really imagine the kitchen’s potential with that weird tile gone. As long as Belin is coming back to fix the walls, perhaps he could make that standard doorway next to the fridge into an arch to match the other one. Keep up the good work, Drew!
I love that you're showing the work like it is, sweaty trousers and jumping from one project to the next and all, because that's what it's actually like. It's very educational and entertaining. And though a nice video from start to finish for one space is fun to watch, it's more fun to finally seeing it come together bit by bit. (And you can always use the footage you have to make one single video per space at the end, if you like. It's always nice to see a recap! But if it's a choice, real time is IT for me).
OMG I’m was so freaked out that you didn’t cover/move the appliances 🥹 Love your demo though, was thinking it would be a great way of relieving some stress to destroy the walls 😂 Can wait to see what’s next.
Drew, when you said you’d never demoed tile before, all I could think was, he’s in for a surprise with all the holes he’ll make. Good plan to hire a professional to get you started and give you an assist. I agree with everyone else, it was lots of fun to watch your face as everything dropped on you. I’m so excited to see this continue.
My kitchen Reno took about 5 years due to finances & just waiting till I could afford what I really wanted. No regrets. ❤️ You're doing amazing! Love u lone Fox! 🦊
This episode had me in stitches Drew…you are so funny. Can’t wait for the renovation to be done. I have confidence that you will do such a wonderful job.
We love Roberto! Very much enjoy you making fun of yourself with this process. It’s a true labour of love. When we moved in we had to tear up the tile floors in the living room and they were stuck to a metal mesh on the floor. That was quite the task
Wow! What a project and what an improvement in the kitchen! Good job, Drew. I absolutely LOVE that floor lamp you got at the antique store. Can't wait to see it placed in your beautifully fully remodeled furnished home. I think bouncing back and forth with your projects in the house will keep it more interesting for you and your viewers. It's a huge house. And there is still the beautiful courtyard!!!!
Thank you for your detailed descriptions it really helps me understand the process. you’re really easy to listen to. Congratulations on your first home I purchased my first home in December and I’m looking forward to all your transformations and tips and tricks. Stay blessed.
Love that you are getting into the demo side of this and have more respect for you getting sweaty and dirty. Why would anyone judge or hold against you honest hard work? I feel like this process will give you a whole new view and respect as a designer for the craftspeople that have to make your visions a reality.
I really appreciated you taking time to explain the direction of the Reno so we are up to speed with what’s going on! I think you’re doing a great job and I’m so looking forward to see what you create ❤️
hahaha I feel so validated! I've been designing my dream kitchen for over a year, and I've had a herringbone brick on the floor from the beginning and everyone's been all "brick floors in a kitchen?? just do an accent wall" but I've stood firm. Excited to see how yours will turn out!
Glad to see you are a responsible DIY’er Drew! So many people never wear a mask or any protective gear when demolishing or building. Builders’ dust can cause serious problems years later which could have been prevented with the simple act of wearing a mask.
Dear Drew, please take your time. Don't over do it ... We have time ...we are glad to see the progress of the house. There probably will come a lot of troubles here and there ...and it's ok ... We will support you...stay strong and healthy 👍🏻♥️

🤣🤣I’m always over optimistic but ya know it helps fuel me through. Music with headphones helps a lot!!
Lol
HAHA - Yes I got flashes of Disney's ' The Sorcerer's Apprentice' -
Drew, Safety glasses, masks, & gloves are so very essential. Please be careful!
Roberto seems like a sweetheart, so calm and helpful. 🥰
LOL
I’m a degreed kitchen designer and I love what you’re doing.
Better now than a year from now and you have to do demo again.
I was 100% thinking this as well!
So raw. So real. So honest!
OMG Dreew you need a gold medal for all the work you've done, and you are absolutely hugely skillfull.
Love Roberto! You are lucky to have him! It took me two days to remove tile from my floor! I loved this video
I love how fearless you are to take on new challenges. Thanks for sharing!!!!
You are a go-getter, you love hard work, and you are so good at what you do. I can’t wait for the results. YOU ARE AN INSPIRATION! ❤️
Anyone who has ever done any demo or other hard physical work can thoroughly empathize with your drenched and filthy appearance when you are in the middle of it! I like that you are sharing all aspects of this new house journey!
You are amazing!!! I am a 62 year old woman who is living by you vicariously! You are so talented!
Oh yes for sure! Totally keeping this in mind
Also, tiring on your feet if you’re cooking for a while.
I always wondered how (or if) people cleaned brick kitchen floors. Is it possible?
This! Terracota and brick are such bitches to clean. I had them ripped out because i just couldn't stand knowing that they weren't as clean as I wanted them to be.
You had me dying the first 8min... when the tile landed on your foot... you're a trooper. Love you. ❤️
HAHAHA!
Laughed out loud and enjoyed myself, thank you for this mood booster🥰 The house is lovely, can't wait to see what yiu do with it😍
Of course!!! 💕
I DIED when he threw the wet jeans on the floor! Loving your mood board for the kitchen. Living for these videos Drew. 💕
FYI- My friend did terracotta tiles in her kitchen and they do chip easily when she drops things on the floor.
Your face expressions are so easy to read! You made me laugh so hard, only because you reacted just like I would have! Bless your heart, it was heart breaking actually. Also that was amazing the expert came over so quickly, you were a good comedy act together?😂🤣
Always a good idea to cover stuff like the stove when doing demo. Old sheets work well. Removing tiles is a huge job, as we all know now lol.
Gold brass hardware throughout will make this home shine! And I love how you're sticking to the Spanish aesthetic. 👌🏻
Thank You for watching Jamie!!
All that hard work and sweat means Drew can splurge on some ice cream after a long day and feel zero guilt.
So excited for you and to see the journey! 🤩
Loved this video. Really appreciate the honesty you're showing, and how you're approaching the reno. Great editing and flow. The jeans flopping onto the floor was hilarious 😂
I love your new series about home renovation! This is so cool to watch how your house is going to transform with every episode 💓
Wow! You can really imagine the kitchen’s potential with that weird tile gone. As long as Belin is coming back to fix the walls, perhaps he could make that standard doorway next to the fridge into an arch to match the other one. Keep up the good work, Drew!
Yes! I kept thinking how odd it was to have a squared off doorway opposite the arch.
Just need to be sure that if an arch is added the appliances can still fit through.
I love you so damn much. Always so proud and inspired by you Drew.
I love what you’ve done to your new house, it’s so sad how many of these beautiful homes have been torn down. Can’t wait to see your next video👍.
I love that you brought in an expert to teach you how to remove the tile AND that you shared what you learned from him! Thanks!
My kitchen Reno took about 5 years due to finances & just waiting till I could afford what I really wanted. No regrets. ❤️ You're doing amazing! Love u lone Fox! 🦊
I respect your willingness to put in the hard work and to learn how to do all of these house projects! 👏👏👏
This episode had me in stitches Drew…you are so funny. Can’t wait for the renovation to be done. I have confidence that you will do such a wonderful job.
your energy brings so much light. Your videos are getting me through some tough times right now. Keep up the amazing work 💞
Watching your shocked face when the cabinet fell is giving me life! This line fox videos is one of my favorite!
Isn’t that floor lamp something else! I swear it’s the prettiest lamp I’ve seen 😍 So happy your enjoying the videos!
Thank you for your detailed descriptions it really helps me understand the process. you’re really easy to listen to. Congratulations on your first home I purchased my first home in December and I’m looking forward to all your transformations and tips and tricks. Stay blessed.
One of the things I love most about this series is getting to enjoy your sense of humour Drew! You’re funny!! 😂💗
I love watching you. Your so witty. “I got it off,” as you almost drop it. Don’t forget to enjoy the whole process!
This has been so much fun! I am anxiously waiting the next episode! I know Drew will make this house absolutely incredible !!
