As an honorable mention, definitely Unaware Quagsire. While it sees almost no usage in Ubers anymore (due to it's main niche, being a Zacian check, no longer existing), I'd say it still deserves the spotlight for it's past feats. Quag still remains a stall staple in even AG after all.
what’d they change that made it no longer viable

@@ArbitraryOutcome Not as much a niche, as it is hoping you don't know the MU. Can't even learn X-Scissor in this game, it can't OHKO Darkrai
@@grunkleg.2934 it makes it into a matchup guess. If its put into swarm range with an attack it can ohko, if it uses a sleep and its against insomnia then it wastes a turn and ariados can win. Still bad, but it doesnt auto lose to darkrai

@@grunkleg.2934 Ariados is mainly trying to stop Deoxys Speed. Darkrai having to worry about whether it has Swarm or Insomnia.
Swarm will make Bug bite an OHKO I believe (or at least Bug bite into Shadow sneak), while Insomnia will make Dark void a waste of a turn, allowing Bug bite twice.
reminds me of how garchomp demolished gen 4 ou and then proceeded to do the same in ubers because the only ubers steel type was dialga. since dialga didn't resist dragon, everyone had to dip into ou for their steel types, which were all the pokemon that garchomp could break through anyway.
So Garchomp was a unintentional warning of Mega Rayquaza in gen 4 Ubers

Before Urshifu-SS and Calyrex-Shadow came to Ubers, Aegislash was still very effective in ubers. It beats all the psychics with shadow ball/shadow sneak strategies, walls Zacian, Zamazenta, and Necrozma-Dusk-Mane, and can heavily cripple walls like Groudon, Lugia and Giratina with toxic/king shield strategies. Urshifu-SS and Calyrex Shadow obliterated its uber niche unfortunately but it is still effective under the right conditions.

Personally I think Klefki has a spot in Ubers! Even though it’s mostly seen in national dex AG but I believe that it’s prankster spiking a thunder wave support is useful! It’s also a pretty good counter to other mons with the steel typing.

excadrill is immune to twave and has rapid spin
in natdex, arceus forms can use defog and refresh to counter twave and hazards. arceus ground is also common, usually having a super-effective stab against it, and immune to twave.
as op said, klefki is usually seen in natdex ag(although i dont see it at 1650)
klefki is also overshadowed by hazard setters like shuckle, and screen setters like grimmsnarl
leftovers bisharp with no bulk isnt even 3hkoed by play rough and immune to prankster.
taunt also cripples klefki, and taunt can be used by a lot of common threats in ubers tier.
not to mention electric types, like koko, which can run heavy duty boots and wall klefki.
if it can have "a spot in ubers" just because it has priority + utility moves, then why shouldn't triage comfey be in ubers?
Shedinja and Clefable are staples on some of my best ubers teams. Unaware+recovery and Wonder guard forces a lot of switch outs and can be very helpful
Shedinja IMO is a handle with care mom that should run a focus sash most of the time. I did that on an AG team with the point of being a scapegoat pick that could potentially get picks and not die while using it as the scapegoat it was on my team to be.
@@cyanideytcuriousseadoggo this aged poorly didn't it
@@TheFlameJoltTerra ruined it by making it immune to direct attacks
In gen 4 ubers literally everything with a water immunity or a priority move has a niche due to how strong kyogre and deoxys speed are.
gamstrodon
It's awesome how the addiction of stuff like Stealth Rocks, Light Clay, Focus Sash and Life Orb turned Deoxys Speed from being the worst Gen 3 Uber to a great Gen 4 Uber.
Ariados: You called?
*Sad Wooper nickednamed redditor noises*
I feel like the main strength of Ferrothorn's typing compared to other steel types is that it resists Water, and that it isn't weak to ground. Water types are hard for other steel types to check, and they also struggle with everything running Earthquake to cover for them.
Great vid as usual man; love seeing ubers get some love. A few more off the top of my head:
Shedinja: great kyogre and xern answer
Zarude: not as common anymore but fun caly and zygarde check due to jungle healing.
W
Obstagoon: caly check with a strong facade and knock
Tyranitar: rocker, caly check, yveltal and eternatus check
Umbreon: wisher, cleric, caly check
And a lot more. It’s def no OU but more diverse than people often think.
I think the reason why people don't like ubers is because "muh legendary spammers don't have any skill!!!1!"
Also bw ubers my beloved
I know it's Legendary, but Regieleki deserves a special mention too, as due to how rare Ground Types are in Ubers bar Groudon, and Zygarde, who will not even be on every team due to a Electric Immunity not being required on every team like it is in OU, it's actually FAR more effective at enabling offense teams with its mix of offensive presence, and utility than it is in OU, and even in the worst case Scenario where your opponent DOES have a ground type, Regieleki's Role Compression still means that at the very least you still have a spinner that's extremely annoying to spinblock, speed control, and a method to force heavy damage with Explosion depending on if you opt for it.
It's only C Rank for a reason, and its Power is a bit underwhelming due to how bulky everything is in Ubers, but there is still something to be said about its niche, and how it's a surprisingly usable pick for Offensive teams.
Ferrothorn and magnezone are my two favorite steel types so I'm happy they are competitively viable
I'm really happy for Ferro since I love Grass types.
I'm glad that Magnezone gets body press to compensate for the removal of hidden power
Ayyy, fellow Magnezone lover. Great taste my friend.
There's no rush like leading shuckle, using sticky web, swapping into dracovish and watching as the opponent forfeits
Quagsire is always my favorite. Especially because it countered Zacian while it was there.
I always think of how Gastrodon has a niche in some Old Gen Ubers due it having Storm Drain and Thunder Immunity to help vs Orge.
You also have Wobbufett and Goth having uses in Old Gen Ubers, but that just speaks to how stupid STag is an ability imo
Actually, Quagsire was the one in Gens 3 & 4 that had that niche of walling Kyogre.
Gastrodon needed the Storm Drain rework/buff in Gen 5 to wall Kyogre.

Cloyster has actually been consistently usable in Ubers even when it was considered mediocre at best in the tier it found itself in. Typically it doesn't go for Shell Smash sweeper sets but instead it sees use as a suicide lead with Rapid Spin. Shell Smash is key to its success in later gens though and like Weavile Ice STAB is a great asset to have in a tier with so many Dragons and Pokemon like Yveltal, and for this purpose too good physical bulk is a good asset for Cloyster to have. Ofc it has glaring weaknesses like bad special bulk and mediocre at best Speed. Its B- in Gen 8 but its been ranked higher in prior gens, being B in Gen 7, and B+ in Gens 6 and 5. This is particularly notable in Gens 6 and 7, where Cloyster sits in the C rank of both ORAS UU and USUM RU.
Quagsire: This was Ubers!? I was just walking by.
Freezai always coming at us with a thorough and professional pokemon explanation. Great work as always!
Remember back in Ubers when you were required to bring a zacian, ditto, and quagsire if you wanted to win any games. Fun times
Great video, there is some important stuff missing.
Ferro, Slurpuff, Shuckle, Aero: Webs/Rocks are more valuable in Ubers than in OU because of the lack of versatile removal and the more threatening sweepers in the tier. This is why dedicated lead sets are seen here but not in lower tiers.
Darm: Darm's speed tier was actually not great in OU, but Ubers is actually slower because for some reason many ubers pokes have
Ubers: Hah, look at the puny fish that's trapped among literal gods!
Dracovish: None of you seem to understand. I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here WITH ME!
Dracovish is huge lol
@@kefkapalazzo1 In the Ubers mindset, anything that's not native to the tier is tiny and insignificant :P
Dracovish is palafin's father pretty much. Thats why its not in gen 9 😂
At this point, you could also do non-legendaries that are good in the OU tier. There are 15 legendaries + 3 ultrabeasts in the OU tier, which contains 36 pokemon, so about half the tier is legendary.
I feel like that would be boring compared to this tbh, as OU's power level is usually where the best non-legendary Pokemon are best at. This video is more the exception to the rule.
@@SeriousStriker I got the point. MY point was that OU is similar in that it's full of legendaries.
This honestly doesn't feel interesting as Non-Legendaries in Uber. Most Legendaries in Ubers are the Box Art Legendaries with significantly higher BSTs than the rest, Kyogre, Ho-Oh, Eternatus, etc. Lando-T, Heatran and the others only have BSTs of 600 at best while some even have them lower such as the Ultra Beasts and the Tapus only having 570 while the Zapdos has 580. The Non-Legendary Pokemon are certainly still on-par against most Legendaries despite such stat discrepancy.
This, however, shows just how harsh Power Creep has gone.
I really hope gen 9 OU will have way less legendaries. Preferably non.
@@littleDainolf Koraidon and Miraidon are already confirmd. Also, other than like gen 1 games and their remakes, every box art was a legendary. it wouldn't make sense, there's supposed to be a conflict with a powerful being on your journey to get the 8 gym badges.
Ditto's infinite PP also makes it a great partner for breeding any pokemon
I loved how he mentioned 69k subs as his goal
Dumb things I've used hilariously in Ubers on monotype teams:
Corrosion Salazzle with toxic (scarf optional)
Aftermath Skunktank with haze and fun set (plus sash) which has saved me against a few sweepers before
Adaptability Crawdaunt (focus sash) aqua jet, crabhammer, knock off, avalanche
Immunity Snorlax
Technician Persian with coverage moves like Icy Wind
Somehow I forgot my Krookodile (Assault Vest) Moxie, Close Combat/Darkest Lariat/Earthquake/Scale Shot, the scale shot has come in clutch before in ubers.
69000 subs. The biggest milestone ever.
Video ideas: pokémon with amazing stats or one really good stat, but still suck, like Rampardos.
(No Archeops, Regigigas and Slaking please, they've been talked about enough)
Rampardos literally only has a good attack. But I agree and also want the reverse of that with the best example being ferrothorn with less than 490 bst

Gastrodon is also common, but not as much in singles as in doubles. It's the perfect Kyogre check.
Seeing all of this makes me wonder what would look like tiers where all ban list are removed before going through the usage rate method. While Ubers itself would not change, what would the lower tiers look like ? I could easily see a tier where most of the unused Ubers legendary form their own metagame, before we get tiers resembling what our OU and UU look like.
Alternatively, would it be possible to create an UnderUbers tier following the usage rate method and see if it is interesting ?
I think your first idea would create alot of chaos, although the second idea seems really cool. Maybe split take all the ubers below c tier and put them into a tier
UU Ubers sounds like a good idea
Ubers was originally just a banlist, but nowadays, it's pretty much a regular tier composed of banned Pokemon. You could make a tier composed of underused Ubers by usage
Might be interesting. I definitely like the idea to turn any large chunks of unusable pokémon (be they borderlined between certain tiers, or be a list of pokémon outclassed in PU that are more numerous than the ones that are effective in PU) into a tier of its own instead of letting a big portion of the pokédex fall to the wayside completely.
@@Qvartz_Lite a friend of mine made a tier called OUBL which has all the unbanked ubers
It’s sad how little mewtwo is mentioned in Ubers anymore. The gen 8 legendaries have like 80 special attack then 150 attack and speed or the other way while mewtwos are more rounded it’s so unfair on him
Power creep. 🥲
*sad Mewtwo noises*
It's also really stupid how they nerfed Aegislash and then proceeded to release the most insane Legendaries we've seen so far.
Ever since gen 7 gamefreak has been creating pokemon solely for competitive, and it's so trash. The best thing is when players create unique strategies and decide what's good or not, not when the fucking creators make a pokemon with 10 SpA and 180 attack/speed with an OP ability.

This does have me thinking, how would competitive doubles look like if players couldn’t use legendaries or mythicals
Somewhat of a “realistic tournament” because in the Pokemon world your average Joe wouldn’t even see a legendary let alone use one in a competition against other trainers
Unless you’re Tobias of course
“hazards are good no matter what tier you’re playing in”

TTar would've been much better if Pursuit wasn't removed in gen 8, then it could've been the perfect counter to Calyrex-S (and Lunala like it was in gen 7), but without Pursuit the ghost rider and moon wing can just run away from it. Heatran also has a good matchup against Eternatus and can burn duskmane and Ferrothorn, but it has to watch out for Earthquake, fighting-types, and Kyogre too often for it to be all that useful.
Also it has a really bad typing Dark/Rock 😖

Hey Freezai! Do you think you could do a video talking about the newly buffed crit rate starting Gen 6? I feel like a lot of people don’t know that reaching a critical hit ratio of 3 or higher guarantees permanent crits, making for some interesting strategies on mons with the sniper ability. It would also be rly cool to get any additional input on it from you.
On an additional note, I was wondering if you were familiar with the Pokémon Radical Red metagame? It provides a lot of interesting buffs to almost every Pokémon and has a lot of theory craft potential, and I’d be super stoked if you did a video on it.
Ive never seen anyone abuse the gen 6 crit mechanics besides Focus Energy Kingdra which is pretty niche as it sounds (and Sirfetch'd I guess)

Rain + Stab + Double Stab + Strong Jaw + Fishious Rend + Choice Band lmao
Ultimate cheese challenge: climb the Ubers ladder with a team that is legal in OU
Fun fact: If Ubers was usage based, then Shuckle, Lando-T, Ferrothorn, and Weavile would all be ubers by usage. Meanwhile, some INSANE pokemon would be OU by usage, including Dialga, Lunala, Palkia, Giratina, Kyurem White, and Genesect.

Nice vid. Not sure if you've already done a vid like it, but briefly talking about how to potentially make the low rank ubers (legends) better although some will never get the changes/buffs they need. Man, loved the vid! Have a vid with Aim and Emvee, Iswear you would have a great synergy!!
I love this guys content I hope u get to a million sub😁
I love Shuckle! I'm glad he has some relevancy up in Ubers.
I found it cool how Bronzong did this in older generations with it's combination of Heatproof and Rain or Levitate, and it's Steel typing, despite being UU or even RU by usage.
I know this is for the current gen but the stranglehold snorlax has on the entire gen 2 meta feels worth mentioning.
Interestingly, the OU tier is now filled with legendary pokemon too
With no more tier rises taking place, maybe a list of non OU mons that are great/good in OU would be cool. Smth like: Gastro, RotomW, Drill, Blaziken, Arctozolt, Nidoking, Nihi, GMoltres, Celesteela, Crawdaunt
“Aerodactyl, fastest Stealth Rocker in Ubers” is so bizarre to hear
Blissey is the ultimate symbol of "never judge a book by its cover"
If magnezone is an extremely common counter to neceozma dusk, wouldnt you want to run heat wave as you last slot? The 3 core moves you want are dragon dance, earthquake and sunsteel, so having heat wave in your fourth slot to counter your #1 counter just makes sense. It does over half to the ubers trapping set of magnezone, and the only downside is if you get terrible accuracy rolls, but its better than automatically dying. Having a super effective special attacking move versus your main counter that has terrible special bulk just makes sense to me.
But most necrozmas dm are defensive and cant afford to run heat wave on their set just to deal with magnezone and for pretty much nothing else
@@julianokohlerdasilva3629 you definitely could, the main moves you run on the bulky set are knock off, moonlight and iron head, and again, the 4th slot is kinda up for grabs. And considering magnezone is a popular counter and is a guaranteed ko if they have one, and this one move counters that counter, that makes your bulky set have even fewer weaknesses. Plus the type coverage if needed is not bad, in case its your last pokemon.
4:44 it only doubles in power if the user moves first before the target otherwise it would just be 85 bp
Aerodactyl is my favorite suicide lead because it has Taunt and is fast and strong enough to not be setup fodder. You can even save it to use as a revenge killer with Focus Sash, although this obviously won't work in Ubers.
I think one of my favourites yo see is shedinja. It's a c rank threat in ubers, same as slurpuff and shuckle.

I'm curious about Unaware Quagmire which was mentioned in the comments but also Gastrodon.
Anything Swampert used to do better these guys now do.
If we could collect the tears of Zacian players who got Uno Reversed by Ditto, we could complete the Sahara Sea project
Shedinja I believe sees some use: while Yveltal and Calyrex still blast through it, its immunity profile lets it absorb Fishious Rends and Origin Pulses, and can be a potential ditto-proofing method on hyper offense teams. Its utility is limited, however, by several common ubers running Knock Off or other moves it's weak to, and either hazard control on a sash variant or prediction on a boots variant is necessary.
Not really ubers, but I'd also like to mention vivillon and butterfree getting usage in gens 7 and 8 of anything goes respectively as quiver dance sweepers with sleep powder. Not the most common things in the world, but it's still funny to think of those early route butterflies brawling the most op legendaries!
And Butterfree even with tinted lense if I recall correctly
I guess that, as you quoted Aerodactyl at the end of the video, Froslass could deserve an honourable mention as well
Yeah I was wondering why it wasnt on the list but alas. Maybe calyrex shadow got too good

I'll go ahead and note that for a very long time, Wobbuffet and Gothetelle were considered stronger in ubers than they were in OU because ubers is a much more centralized tier, making their trapping services both more consistent and more valuable.
Unaware Pyukumuku was a beast for me in the Sun/Moon days. You could run Recover, Toxic and Protect to stall, you could do Curse into Baton Pass (if I remember Z Baton Pass nullified negative stat changes so only positive stat changes transferred), or you could run Psych Up to troll those who don't know Pyukumuku has Unaware and are trying to set up, then Baton Pass to a fast sweeper...that little turd is widely said to be bad, especially because it's weak to Taunt, but otherwise it's very hard to take down so I had so much fun soloing all legendary teams in WiFi battles. Never underestimate Pyukumuku

Ditto with choice scarf was also the best counter to Zacian while he was still legal, as it copied the attack boost from Zacian's ability, while also gaining the ability itself, resulting in another attack boost. This meant you had a sword dance Zacian who outsped practically every pokemon in the game.
