Probably the best recording of his singing I’ve found live.

5:14 that is one of the purest notes I've ever heard Cedric hit, live or studio recording!!!

Dunno about that. Thomas Pridgen worked with what he had. But if you watch his live stuff, he's able to groove over stuff that's not even his like a madman. Being respectful while also having your signature is a hard thing to do improv.

    • @curtismarcikic319

Pridgen was always doing too much in my opinion. He was fine but was always going over the top unnecessarily @@applelandry4233

@@applelandry4233 Thomas is a (not so) close 2nd place. Jon is a force of nature and grooves really hard. Also: Dynamics. Jon can play soft and hard while Thomas always hits hard.

if you like technicality, thomas is your man, but if you like creativity and flow, jon is your guy.
To me jon fit the best with volta
Its a bit like Ringo in the beatles, it wasnt about his skill but about how well he fit in that beatles pocket. Jon is far more skilled than ringo and thomas might be even more skilled than both, but Jon fit in that shoe so smoothly, better than all the other volta drummers

they played mexico city last saturday, due to work i couldnt go... a part of me felt really bad, another is the 37 year old business owner i am. nevertheless, i browesed through the marble shrine archives and really wanted to relieve my times in my moms house scouting through soulseek for live shows, i remebered this one and instantly hit play... after 18 years of discovering them, theres no band that can make me feel what the mars volta makes me feel when they play live, that raw inherent passion that they put in their shows, the true feeling of being there and give everything they had. thanks the marble shrine for this archive, truly the best live band of our times. im glad i saw them 3 times when i was young, each so different from each other, but this tour... this tour was so amazing. damn... i cried so much in televators and felt so many raw emotions in take the veil. best 2 hours i spent with my self in a long time. thanks guys. is Zaid still part of this site?

It's hard to beat the energy they had in this era. It's definitely what drew me to them.
Zaid is still around! He isn't actively working on the site anymore but I still communicate with him pretty regularly. He's a wealth of knowledge for anything TMV related.
