!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Agreeed!! People rag on Thomas soo hard.....He is the greatest thing to happen to the mars volta...Nobody else can do an entire TMV catalogue setlist but Pridgen.Nuff said.
To be totally honest and, in my modest opinion, Pridgen was the worst drummer they had (despite being quite good). I suggest you watch Deantoni Parks live. Just put Omar Rodriguez Lopez live. Ofcourse Deantoni Parks has a different style and is far more technical and jazz influenced. He's a good prog drummer.
@@Sabogey IMO Pridgen fit the more abrasive and maximalist style TMV was trying around the 2008 era perfectly but its often irritating listening to him do the older material, especially the groovier stuff. He fucking conquers the jam parts during this era of Volta though, the Drunkship jam on this video is fucking intense.
And truth be told, Pridgen's tastiest and most dynamic drum performance is in Xenophanes, not any Volta record (which practically is a Volta record, just with Ximena Sarinana singing). Dude had a lot of potential to develop a solid style but he wasn't cut out to handle the high stress and high demands that come with working under Omar and Cedric.
Give Omar Rodriguez-López a sick ass drummer to arrange around with and the sky is truly the limit with the Mars Volta. A pinnacle of electric guitar-ORL, in my estimation, demonstrated how further the electric guitar can go if it breaks away from the norm.
