Clad iron chin not quite Haglers but if Haglers chin was a 10 Leonard's was a 9 but Leonard's intelligence was a 10 and his speed was 9.9 their was a couple of smaller fighters that were 10 level speed and one slightly bigger named Roy Jones that was a 10 also Ali and Tyson were BIG men who score a 9.9 in my book of the fastest big guys ever I seen enough Floyd Patterson to believe he was more of a 9.0 in speed
There are some awesome fighters now tho. Triple G, Mayweather before he retired and prolly still was a BEAST, Canelo Alvarez, Manny Pacquiao was insane, even Shane Mosley at the end of his career was good he almost knocked floyd Mayweather out. Ricky Hatton... so many. But back in the Ali days and Tyson days... man boxing used to be crazy
Ray Leonard had every tool in the box,and the most important tool he had was boxing IQ.The very bestvin my eyes and I have been following boxing for 50 years
Terence Crawford has a similar boxing IQ and is also very good but not being allowed to wrap up the Welterweight division like the good old days When the best fought the best. Unfortunately.
Crawford can fight from either stance, with KO power in both hands, that's nuts! Ray was much faster than Crawford, though. Also, Ray fought a library of legendary boxers =)
With hard hitters people always focus on their power more then their skill. Everyone remembers Tysons KOs more then his insane head speed and dodges. Everyone remembers Foreman for his insane power and not his grappling and pawing jabs ruining his opponents rhythm and defence. Everyone remembers Liston for his knock out power but not his beautiful jab.
Ray won the belt and then six weeks later fought again. The boxers in this era would never do that. Boxing was real back then. Now they fight every two years and duck each other. Rarely do the best fight the best anymore.
Yea because fighters ended up with severe brain damage. This is why they fight 2 fights a year. Ain't nobody want to be disabled or brain dead due to too many punches to the skull. Boxers risk their lives stepping into the ring and you got to respect that.

@Bruce Wayne He did have a clean image. Nobody was thinking "look at that cocaine abuser, it made him fight longer". It doesn't matter if he did or didn't do cocaine, which you don't have proof of. @@Bill-Butcher Sugar Ray Robinson was great, but in a different era and different style of fighting. His record is ridiculous he had like 126wins or some shit with almost a 100 KOs. boxers at welterweight division right now is so lucky, that they weren't born on era of leonard hearns hagler and duran, their era was truly the greatest welterweight i have ever seen
Good vid. Why no inclusion or even mention of the welterweight unification classic with Thomas Hearns which occurred between the Kalule and Finch fights? There was plenty of SRL tenacity, power and speed in that fight (even though Leonard was trailing on points before the stoppage of Hearns).
Those particular fights require their own video. A brief description of those bouts will not do it justice. To get a example of my single bout videos, look at my most recent videos Pryor vs Arguello or Cooney vs Holmes.

The power and sheer ferocity tho…
Behind that perfect grin of his, Sugar Ray was a beast in the ring even at his weight class
The most dynamic boxer I've seen.
Have you ever seen Roy Jones Jr. Had the same speed but with More power. In his heyday he Thrashed his opponents!
@@nikkichevyable He's one of my childhood heroes.
Out of the four Hearns, Hagler, Duran, and Leonard Leonard, with my favorite he did more things that left me astonished than any fighter I’ve ever seen before
boxers at welterweight division right now is so lucky, that they weren't born on era of leonard hearns hagler and duran, their era was truly the greatest welterweight i have ever seen
Would have loved to seen him fight Aaron Pryor n their primes
@@rjpdcytys7687 anybody got a punchers chance
Ray wud have stopped Prypr
I don't know who's more awesome, Sugar Ray or this narrator!!
Good vid. Why no inclusion or even mention of the welterweight unification classic with Thomas Hearns which occurred between the Kalule and Finch fights? There was plenty of SRL tenacity, power and speed in that fight (even though Leonard was trailing on points before the stoppage of Hearns).
Yes he walked Tommy down
How the hell isn't the Hagler and Hearns fight in here?
Those particular fights require their own video. A brief description of those bouts will not do it justice. To get a example of my single bout videos, look at my most recent videos Pryor vs Arguello or Cooney vs Holmes.
@paul stewart he didn’t lol he beat Hagler’s fucking ass and kicked the shit out of Hagler and knocked Hearns tf out like bro come on.
Ray Leonard before he tore his retina is the greatest boxer in history. He mastered every boxing skill and had no flaw.
Great era, I do not believe we will see this many great fighters in one weight class ever again
I remember watching his first pro fight, after that I knew this kid was special. Arguably the greatest welterweight ever with some of the most memorable fights in history...
He was the greatest in his prime before eye surgery no one better he had it all plus the brains and great trainer the late angelo dundee!!@
This is brilliant. Keep them coming!
this channel is sooooo underated. I Love this channel keep up the good work
My favourite Boxer, and the best of the 4 Kings
Ray was an underrated killer (except for one fight)
Ray talking about Tommy Herns is the funniest exaggeration in boxing history... "6'3", 6'4"... Some say 6'5""
i would say he's the best boxer ever very special fighter had everything u could think of but his boxing iq was of the charts
Damn I wish the Sugar Ray Leonard Aaron Pryor fight happened.
That's the missing piece of SRL's history. Would hv bn a show
Some of the best boxing content out there that I’ve seen… and I’ve seen a lot. This is the 3rd video I’ve watched and I just had to hit that subscribe button
The body the body the body..cot damn the body..all day!🥊
That damn detached retina robbed the world.
would have luv to see srl vs hagler in 1982
I still remember being in the same digits of age the first time I seen Sugar Ray Leonard and I remember my grandmother and my uncle saying wooooweeee that man is fast
I always laugh when they call Mayweather the best! Could'nt live with this guy!
You and i both!!!! Been blasting that all over Instagram, here, and Facebook!!!! Floyd Jr is fucking delusional!!!!
@@bryonwatkins1432 it doesn't matter why would Floyd Mayweather said somebody else is better than him. This is boxing everything is mental. You need to tell yourself you are the best. I love this quote that Floyd Mayweather says and it goes like this. You think I gave up my childhood and blood sweat and tears just to say another man is better than me. Regardless sugar Ray Leonard is one of the greats and Floyd Mayweather is one of the greats. Both top notch fighters in their prime
@@jonathanrobbins3300 I'm not a Mayweather disciple but I actually thought Mayweather had faster handspeed than Leonard.
gambling man that i am. these two in there prime could not get enough on sugar ray to beat the pretty boy.
Ray bigger stronger faster & hits harder plus had the athletic ability to match Floyd.
Ray had all the ability and was exciting af to watch. He wanted all the smoke and wanted to prove he was better than the next guy.
Awesome presentation. Sugar Ray Leonard is one of my favorite fighters. And he is certainly one of the best to ever step into the ring. 🥊
Try getting a life and stop trolling.
Nice work ✊🏾🥊
I just subscribed... this channel is awesome!!!
“Absolute Predestination...” I still contemplate that quote from a Sugar Ray Leonard Sports Illustrated article from the late 80’s...Fate or Free Will?
