Wasn't big and strong as Foreman, wasn't natural as Ali, but he had the drive, fire in the belly and a heart of a lion. As Big George said: "They stopped the fight, but they didn't stop Joe Frazier - I knocked that man down 6 times, and he was still looking for me. He was the bravest fighter I've ever seen".

I met Joe Frazier 3 months before he passed away.. I was stationed at Nellis AFB and just happened to be working on a Saturday. My retirement ceremony was coming up soon so I went to the ticketing agency on base to price tickets for my family.. As I walked into the building in uniform I recognized the Champ sitting at a table signing autographs. I immediately payed my respects to the Champ.. Such a beautiful person, friendly, and had a big hearty laugh. I called my Mentor back at my hangar.. I was so siked up.. Chief you gotta come over her right NOW!!! We took pics with the Champ and he signed my boxing gloves that I had been working out with in my Muay Thai class. Beautiful memory with class act Champion.. Smokin Joe Frazier.. its his trade mark althoug it was a strange technique because he finish the punch off balance, it was a legendary hook but far from perfect. in fact i think it was a great form for him but no one else. he also have a great waist movement that help him a lot after the left hook when he miss, i mean he punch and immediatly goes down and swing his full body in a circle, that amazing. and he do it so well that sometimes he K.O. someone and didnt know because he was doing that elusive movement.

Yeah both of them beat up on each other really good in that fight, but that knockdown punch probably was no different than the other left hooks throughout the fight, it just happened to catch Ali moving backwards and Ali went down but obviously not extremely hurt because he got right up and fought okay for the rest of the round, but yeah I scored the fight for Frazier the same way as the ref did 8-6-1. No telling how the fight would have went if it was both of them in their prime. I mean yeah this was Frasier's prime but Ali's prime little more like it was in the 60s when he had his full speed and reflexes and didn't get hit hardly at all. I honestly don't think he would have got hit with even half those left hooks

🥊Frazier hurts every time he thinks of Ali. His hostility still rages within. It's a consuming, ugly bitterness he has carried for decades, the result of the hurtful things Ali has said. He insulted his intelligence, his character and his lack of black pride. Ali called Frazier ugly and ignorant and, most disturbingly, an Uncle Tom. Frazier, the son of South Carolina sharecroppers, was deeply wounded by Ali's ridicule which was accepted as socio-political fact and isolated Frazier from the black community.
Ali somehow succeeded in making a fight between two African - American men a matter of black and white. Throughout the black community, he was an object of derision and scorn because of the way Ali treated him, it was cruel. The hatred grew intensely within Frazier. He was unable to compete with Ali's eloquence, but he had a left hook that could do the talking for him. Frazier, with loating in his heart and thunder in his Everlast gloves, punished Ali for the things he said.
Notice after Ali vs Frazier 1 fight announcers said Frazier was feeling sic in his corner and he just wanted to go back to dressing room. That's because Joe couldn't slow his heart and nervous system back down to a resting state. Joe already had history of high blood pressure and diabetes, he spent nearly two weeks in the hospital for exhaustion, blood pressure, diabetes and kidney problems..
BUT BUT when he was in his 40s Joe was out dancing and singing in the clubs while Ali couldn't talk and his tremors were getting worse. Younger folks haven't a clue what Ali actually did to Joe, let me explain by saying it's exactly like today's Hollywood liberal cancel culture. Frazier hated that Louisville Lip and before fight he got on his knees and prayed to God that he could make Ali perish.
Personally i have to admit, everytime Frazier smacked Ali i cheered, We All Cheered, MILLIONS CHEERED

It's called promotion, and mental war games. He made fun of Liston (big ugly bear), Foreman (Mummy with no boxing ability) etc... He even wanted Chuck Wepner to call him the N word on national television to sell the fight better. It just business, and Frazier didn't understand that.
In regards to making fun of Ali and claim Frazier had it better. He was living in his gym and near broke towards the end. Ali may have not been all there mentally and physically, but is praised as the greatest all over the world. Sometimes great sacrifice in life, comes at a price. Ali was special, and helped the sport more than any other fighter in history.

🌐 When a simple man is put on tv most of his lifetime and praised by so many you should ask yourself, what is the purpose behind this demigod? The social engineering around Ali was incredible. The media hype built him up so audience viewers became entranced hypnotized and mesmerized from the entertainment and viewed his fights as iconic historic events even when he was losing and being rocked senseless.
Ali was chosen by the system and turned into a left wing political pawn, that's why he has an $85 million dollar museum in Louisville KY. Where is Louis Marciano Frazier and Holmes museums? At least Joe Louis was buried in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors unlike Clay who dodged.
Elijah Mahomud convinced Clay to dodge cause he was their meal ticket, so Clay faked being Minister so he could dodge Nam while preaching cancel culture towards the white man who he called "Devil's." But it all backfired. He thought he was going to be gifted special exemption cause he was champ, Nope. 51,038 white soldiers vs 7,243 black soldiers were killed during Vietnam war so don't complain about racial inequality.
Jackie Robinson said, "Ali's stand was hurting his race who were, unlike him, fighting in Vietnam. The tragedy to me is, Cassius has made millions of dollars off the American public, and now he's not willing to show his appreciation to a country that's giving him, in my view, a fantastic opportunity."
At that time being drafted was the Law. When Clay refused induction someone had to take his place. What if that someone was You? I served in Nam shoulder to shoulder with black men who were "The Greatest" authentic heroes of America, not that privileged two-faced bigoted racist who turned his back to his own people once his boxing license was reinstated.
The lottery chose me right outta highschool and my parents didn't have money to send me to Canada or bribe a doctor for medical excuse. Blame the politicians and military industrial complex, not the young innocent teenage kids who were family, friends and neighbors. Good men who did their best in a bad situation who were sent there to fight for the ideal of freedom of people everywhere.
Dad told me, "son, it's the's law, go fight hard, and represent your country well." So i fought hard, and represented my flag proudly. What would You have done? Donald J. T. avoided Nam and the world hates him, Cassius Clay resists and becomes a famous civil rights activist and legendary antiwar hero. Today BLM is painted on every basketball court and I'm supposed too become less white and reprogrammed, something is twisted.
Ali's legend is far greater than the actual reality of his career lik' gettin rocked by 185 lb fighters and outscoring flat-footed sluggers. I stepped through those ropes 24 times and it's not that difficult after first several fights. What's difficult is working a common job 10 hours a day for 50 years to pay mortgage and put food on the table for your children.

Ali closed the show in the 3rd fight, made Frazier quit in his corner. In regards to your opinion on the Vietnam war. Ali made the right decision and took a stand for what he believed in. Unlike in WW2, where we were attacked. The Vietnamese did nothing to us, and we had no business being there. It's not our responsibility to risk our lives for an unworthy cause. In the end, the war was proven to be a mistake by America and Ali was cast back in the spotlight once again.

Smoke was one of the all time greats. His was the greatest left hook in history and he had the cardio to match Marciano despite being a much bigger man. Let's not forget how he handed Ali his first loss through a completely dominant performance (Ali was 3 and a half years post lay off and it showed) and how he fought blind in Manilla, already having had one all but blind eye and having the other swelled by Ali enough from the 13th onwards that he couldn't barely see the punches to avoid them. While Ali collapsed to the canvas after his victory, Joe stood, having fought to the end to plead with Eddie Futch to carry on despite his complete lack of sight. Had his good eye not been swelled? Who knows what would have happened. One of the true, all time greats and a top 3 fighter from the Golden Age along with Ali and Foreman.

In my opinion, had he approached Big George with that stick and move style of the second fight but in the sunshine showdown, where he was younger, had better vision, was pre-Manila and had more power, I genuinely reckon if he could have just drawn Big George into a longer fight (they were literally the polar opposite, with smoke being just as much of a killer in round 15 as 1 whereas Big George was definitely more the type to get his man out of the gate, like the 2 rounds it took for Ken Norton and Frazier, with only 5 rounds for Lyle), I feel he would have had a chance to take him. And that's in all respect to Big George, who I truly feel was the hardest puncher in boxing history and a top 5 heavyweight GOAT. But it really frustrates me when people say Joe would have lost 10/10 times to Big George. It was the classic 'styles make fights' and it showed when an older, post Manila, worse vision Frazier was quite even with Foreman until the 5th round of their rematch.

@@daviddavis3389 Well, that could be discussed in many ways of views with Joe Frazier vs. Mike Tyson.
They are similar in many ways and would create a very interesting fight and both would land some bombs. However, while Tyson may have veen physically stronger and possibly be a better dodger of straight punches then Frazier, that would not be the issues here.
What would be the issues is speed, stamina and mentallity. Frazier had all that. Tyson had it but with conditions. Tyson was mentally more fragile and was a bulle fighter, who would mentally decline when the going gets tough. Frazier was the opposite. He was like a machine who did not stop until he could not go on. There was no quitting in him. You had to blast him, wutch was not something no one could do beside Foreman or have the capacity of doing enough to win a decision (Mohammad Ali)
Tyson admired Frazier's career greatly and was mighty impressed of his old work ethics. Tyson could get sloppy with his training - Frazier was always sharp and diciplined.
If they fought, I believe both men had a punchers chanse, but if Tyson did not catch Frazier early, I believe Frazier would take Tyson out in after middle rounds just because of his mentallity and aggression would still be strong while Tyson would back-down and question himself and his chanses. See, both would go for same angles and both are aware of that and both would try to counter each-other BUT Frazier's mean body shots would make Tyson buckle sooner or later.
Larry Holmes who sparred with Joe Frazier on many ocassions for the 3rd Ali fight said that Frazier was the meanest body puncher he ever fought and that Tyson could never match that in body shots. Frazier was like a machine and near broke Holmes ribbs more then once.

They're admirable qualities only fighters like Ali and Frazier have. Still, even with that being said, I think Tyson would win against Frazier because he was also very fast. But we'll never know, the same way we don't know who'd win with Ali vs Tyson.

On the other hand, Tyson had a rare combination of speed, power, and ferocity that few could equal. Frazier was a boxing equivalent of the Energizer battery. No matter how many times he went down, he never stayed down... no matter how hard he got hit, he just kept coming and coming. Stronger chin, imo, than Mike. I'd go with Tyson early or Frazier late. Many years later, I was in an area called “Cubao,” having dinner with some friends. We were eating in a restaurant in a shopping center called the “Ali Mall”. It never occurred to why it was named that until I saw all these framed Black & White photos in this one section. Fraziers craft is under rated, most of all his defense. Many of those KO left hooks were counters that never could have happened if he had a lesser defense. It’s interesting to think how Ali and Frazier would have been viewed in history if Frazier would have won thier last fight, wen Ali was in the process giving up and Angelo Dundee argued with him long enough for Fraziers corner to stop the fight under protest from Frazier.

Hey man, you know and so do I if Joe was allowed to fight that last round it would have been 2-1 to him and history would have been different. I grew up watching ABC sports and their boxing programming and back then you could watch a title fight within a day or two of the fight going down or sometimes even on a live broadcast. Just sit and watch it on your television in the privacy of your own home without paying for anything. I've always been a contrarian and because everybody liked Muhammad Ali so much I decided that my guy was going to be Joe Frazier. Fraser was an amazing fighter with as much speed and skill as power but of course he was overshadowed during those years of his fighting for heavyweight glory. I think he was a top 10-15 heavyweight of all time and was only held back by his smaller size and by the fact that the heavyweight division was stacked during those years. Guys like Kenny Norton would have been incredible champions if they hadn't had all of the other fighters to be measured against from the same era. I can remember my incredible excitement watching Frazier beat Muhammad Ali to the shock and dismay of everyone else. It's strange to think about it this way but I think if Joe had been a light heavyweight he would have been the greatest of all time. Now being a top 10 heavyweight is still better than being the number one light heavyweight. That's just the way it works in boxing.

It's ironic how much people praise Muhammad Ali for his kindness and his love for all black people, and then hear him talk about other black men so disparagingly. I've lost a lot of respect for Muhammad Ali over the years. When he wasn't womanizing, he was out insulting his own people calling them monkeys and slaves and Uncle Tom's. I think Joe Frazier was a better champion. I also think Muhammad Ali was afraid of Joe Frazier. Muhammad Ali never put Frasier on his back. But he certainly laid Muhammad Ali out

    • @reillyhopf6508
      @reillyhopf6508 2 роки тому

losing respect because Ali because he was promoting fights lol? Makes 0 sense. Ali still apologized for the rest of his life to Frazier who openly forgave him (despite sometimes sliding in jabs at Ali). And okay, Ali's womanizing and cheating on his wives is a valid argument for disliking him, Ali's sex addiction began when he was 16 the night before he Kent Green beat him via TKO, but that was also caused by a fellow boxer who brought himself and Ali to two prostitutes, not Ali himself. (Ali discussed this in his Seven and Two chapter in his 1975 autobiography).
Ali was also never afraid of Joe Frazier, the only man that ever gave Ali the slightest fear was Sonny Liston, and even then it wasn't to a massive degree.
Apart from that Ali was an outstanding human being. He donated millions of his own and raised even more, stood up against Vietnam, rescued a suicidal man from a ledge, rescued hostages, and so much more. Don't lose respect for Ali because he did bad things, he was a human being and had his faults and he recognized and apologized for them later in life, something that most people could never do.

I remember watching this fight live on ABC 7 with my dad. My dad was for Ali but I was full on, without a doubt, a Frazier fan to the max. I told my dad before the fight, that Ali would go down once before the fight was over from a left hook. Well, history speaks for itself, because Ali did go down from several vicious left hook. I was hoopin' and hollarin' as my dad got madder and madder at me. hahahaha. My dad couldn't believe that anyone could knock Ali out or down, but Frazier did and it was a beautiful shot. I was so happy that night, and very proud of my little 9 year old self. lol. Frazier was relentless ( always coming forward no matter what or who was in front of him). He hated Ali for the things he said about him after helping Ali stay afloat (broke ass) before his come back. Joe felt betrayed and he should have, after all the nasty things Ali said about him in press conferences. I remember the things Ali said and it really pissed me off. Even as a 9 year old kid, i could decipher between what was good sportsmanship, as opposed to the evil, wicked, vicious and disgusting remarks made by Ali, Joe wasn't expecting Ali to go as far as he did, crossing a line, by saying the things he did, after doing what he did for Ali. He took it deeply personal and that's how he fought and BEAT Ali, the first time. He was not to be stopped and it showed. RIP, Frazier. You were my favorite and always will be "SMOKIN' JOE".
