I'll never own or ride any of these machines you fix, but the way you describe, diagnose and repair everything from a to z is so interesting. I never learned how engines work. Thank you, it's very educational.
I'm dying to know what you ment exactly by the I'll never own 1 of your machines.Sounded rather passive aggressive but I could be wrong.Dont care but curious
That`s a nice machine, I haven`t ridden in years, I had 3 dirt bikes and a 380 suzuki street bike in my early twenties at one time. I did all of my own maintainance and rebuilds, brings back a lot of memories, i`m 61 now and still love tinkering with things, be well my friend.
You need to get back to riding man! I've been riding all my life since early 2000s but lately with raising kids and busy lifestyle I tend to ride less and less, but I'm always squeezing any time possible to ride and work on my machines! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Bought an ltz 2 years ago ABSOLUTELY RIPS power where you need it pretty fast looks so good I got a yellow and blue 06 probably the best thing I ever bought
Put 1k in mine after 2400 clutch cover radiator swingarm and countless other my huge thing is oem I don’t care how much I got to pay is long as my bike is fully oem I’m happy
Great job Joe. I was telling my wife when I started the video that you’ve become my favorite UA-cam channel. I sincerely hope you continue to find success and your channel continues to grow.
Im 2 mins into the vid, that peice IS a peice of a gear in the trans and it will prob shift fine and all untill the other dog teeth on that gear start breaking off or getting rounded from the extra load they are taking... i would atleast pull it apart and see to prevent further damage in the future..
I think you're right. I also think that if Joe went that extra mile and split the cases, he'd find much more damage than he'd expect, possibly even a cracked case.
That piece looks like a engagement dog, from the side of a gear . The part that locks up. Probably happened when the chain broke, snapped off. Maybe it's been replaced. Just flipped on it's side, that metal could pass to the other case.
He has never gotten the criss cross tightening sequence down. Always starts off good then butchers it by going to the immediate left or right. Uses a breaker bar as a ratchet. And he not once will accept feedback here and change for the better when people offer sound advice.
If he was proper about everything it wouldn’t be so good for content in a way I think it’s intentional I think his UA-cam channel is great and he’s skilled
It looks like you could use some fertilizer on your garden. The corn is pretty yellow. It looks like the soil is short on nitrogen, and likely phosphates to. You can try a general soil builder like 16-16-16. Or get a soil test kit and see what the soil lacks.
Vinnie reminds me of a dog I had, many years ago, when I was a young man. When I arrived home, he would stop me half way to the front door. He would only let me get, just so close, to the front door then grab my pants leg and tug. Too much energy😊
If you have an endoscope/ borescope, you could’ve looked through the case to the other side, through those passages. Pretty good investment for the price of one.
The z400 are the best quads for the buck. all they ever need is a timing chain and some maint and they will give years of fun. and they have reverse. Just a great design.
When you were testing the shifter, I think I saw a broken tooth on the gear you cen see through the round hole above left of the main shaft. I think tht is the mystery piece. could have been dark oil also, was going by fast.
Love the channel. the ltz400 is a very good quad, ive owned a few of them. Look closely at the frame where the front upper shock mount is welded. MANY of the early years had issues with the frame cracking there on both sides. Suzuki denied knowledge of the issue, but there were so many breakages that aftermarket companies were making a bolt on bracket. The guys i kow just welded on a gusset. Also, some of your critics have a point. Why would you not oen the transmission when you have a piece of broken material that almst certainly came from there? I've watched you tear down many transmissions without hesitation, but not this one that will most likely create a much bigger problem in the future. Kind of disappointing from you. I think you're better than that.
Now that's one happy dog. Vin is adorable. Reminds me of my lab. She LOVES to run mtn bike trails with me. Great job on the simple fix. Total score on that one. Love the Z400...have an 06 in the garage
Man you are an absolute wizard with these machines I've learned so much, but I do have one thing on my wish list and that is for you to crack the case on a quadrunner 250 because I'm having problems with mine and there's no one else on UA-cam that puts them back together ,they take them apart but they don't put them back together, that's if you run across one that needs that done thank you
Joe you should snap pictures on your 🤳 phone to reprint out those stickers decals and paint the tiller yellow.,an the other places missing paint on your tractor to man. it would make it look way nicer than way to. Not to mention it'll protect and save the metal from any further rusting to. Some primer and paint and sticker decals will be A game changer on it big time.
Miss you big boy, been watching since spotty first blew up on UA-cam. If you burn yourself out doing daily videos, try committing to 1 a week? I have seen others have success with that, or even once a month. Keep going bro, glad to see your still doing great☀️🙌
No, he is cutting corners on almost everything. If you look carefully, he even reused an oil filter 🤣 I like his videos, but man, I scratched my head so many times when I see how he "cheaps" out everywhere that's possible...
asking if he changed the seal for the shifter and he probably did . but would it matter ? no but the jealous ones in the comments would say all kinds of bs about it if he didnt .
Bravo - you got it running, nice Quad. And the star of our show - some 2Vinny Time. Fun day to rip around on your land. Wet but not muddy, with good drainage.
Nice job on the Suzuki quad. Now tell everybody how that garden turned out. I can't see anything but mud and grass on the land where it is supposed to be!😅
hope you don't take this the wrong way but I always chuckle when you say "we're gonna go to the land to test it out". I know that you're referring to the land that you own but it just sounds funny. As always, awesome video!
I'll watch the rest of the video in a moment, but at the 6 minute mark when you're checking to make sure you can shift into each gear, I notice a small quarter-sized hole above the shift mechanism where you can see the teeth of a gear spin by... it went too fast on the video to see, but if one of those teeth (or teeth from an adjacent gear came loose, they could come through that hold and settle on the bottom below the clutch basket... anyway, the rest of the video will tell me whether this is an issue to contend with or not.
Just got to the land. Havent seen u try reverse yet. Lol near the end of video you did say u tested reverse. Keep up the great work. Always looking forward to see what youll wrench on next.
Your goofy dog reminds me of mine. They are so cute and so much fun. Mine also loves my bike, cars boat in fact everything I do 😂 Great work Joe, love your content mate 👍
Looking at the size of the gear i would have said 2nd gear. I've only broken 2nd once in my LTZ400, I've broken 3rd a few times now though. And yes the broken pieces do end up in funny places like around the clutch. One time it got stuck between my oil pump gears and stopped the oil pump from operating. These things do not have an oil pressure warning system.
USPS via ebay has been terrible lately. I've had orders get to my areas sorting facility and then ship out 300 miles away only to be sent back to our sorting facility.
Yep just terrible, sent to wrong place but still close and then back 200 miles away again costing a few extra days. I’ve had 2 vacuum brake boosters arrive completely beat to shit falling out of the box and both damaged. And now an alternator that left California 2 weeks ago and has not arrived anywhere yet, and they keep telling me to just wait. Gotta love how lazy and worthless the entire country has gotten.
That thing sounds like a lawn tractor started up...I guess that's why I have always stuck with Yamaha and Honda. You know a big red when you hear one just like a Yamaha 2 stroke...Though there is nothing like a 350X or 250R either
"Robbed a chain off an old dirt bike".. lmmfao.. that's probably what the last owner or owner before that did. I understand you doing it for testing. This is basically a DRZ400 motor.. been around 25+yrs.. takes a special kinda stupid to mess this one up.
The piece appears as a gear engagement cog (drive) in other old transmissions. Usually there would be at least three per connection - possibly it might work with fewer if other damage didn"t occur. Just a wild guess.
That piece definitely looks like a piece of a gear, im guessing something inside the transmission it's going to work for a few rides but once more of the gear breaks it will make a mess of the transmission
I build boats for a living and enjoy watching your videos when I'm on break or at lunch and show your bike teardowns to my coworkers.
I'll never own or ride any of these machines you fix, but the way you describe, diagnose and repair everything from a to z is so interesting. I never learned how engines work. Thank you, it's very educational.
Joe: I robbed a chain off another bike.

Joe's out in the field making crop circles 😂
He must not be renting it to the farmer anymore
@fordfan6474 I don't think he is. He did start his own crops but not sure what happened

A gearhead in the making!
Your garden needs compost or fertilizer. Great video!
I had one for a few years it was a blast and pretty fast for a 400 , never had any problems while I had it
When you were testing the shifter, I think I saw a broken tooth on the gear you cen see through the round hole above left of the main shaft. I think tht is the mystery piece. could have been dark oil also, was going by fast.
Better till and fertilize the corn for a decent crop.
Great job. These projects are a breeze if cases don't need splitting!
I always checked the chain tension on the bottom run. Usually half an inch minimum.

Nice Quad I'm happy for you that it was a fairly easy fix nice to have one go your way for a change 😊
The fixing is good but I think the testing afterwards is more fun than the build, but it's all good in the end.

Ltz might just be the best sport quad ever made. Dead reliable, liquid cooled, and plenty of power. Imo its between that and the 400ex
Awesome fix. And thanks for the vinster , he a charmer ❤.

Look at the transmission window at top left at 5:00 in to 5:33 seconds you can see the missing tooth go by it has a few other damaged ones too
Thanks for the video checking every day to catch a new video
That's a peace of one of the dog's off one of the gears.
I'm scared to watch this to the end now the trains could go BOOM!!.......
worn out phillips screw tops I place them in a nut and hammer the top flat again to help the bit when tightening them again..
The gear missing the dog will eventually fail, make sure you inform the new owner.
Wow that sounds like it has a lot of engine noise in the top end. Sounds to me like the cam chain is loose or the guide rods are bad....
Honestly that engine should of been fully striped and checked if you find chunk random metal inside.
That chunk of metal didn't just grow in there!
Mowed trails look so fun, relaxing. Camp spot at the turn around?
Any reputable mechanic would have split the cases to find out which gear is broken. Joe you're such a hack its unbelievable
That ticking sound is not normal
@tristan_andrade, don't hear any ticking sound .
Joe doesn't care, he is a total hack
That mystery piece is driving me crazy!
