Part of the problem is that, for a long time, those old timers didn’t want to share their knowledge out of fear for their jobs. So, the younger generations didn’t learn as much of the older stuff and just embraced the newer technology.

This is what separates Welker Farms from other guys on UA-cam, they just go buy or lease whatever they need. You guys go find a piece of equipment that needs work and turn it into exactly what you want/need. The best part about this is, when it's done you know exactly what you have. I'm really looking forward to this project, can't wait to see how it turns out

You're Spot on Jon. Unlike other hitting up the finance company these men actually get in do the work them selves. Wheather moving 2nd hand grain silos or rebuilding ~50 year old tractors even a bent header front. Fantastic. DIY & cash flow + . Rebuilt, reuse, repurpose Environmentally freindly. I hope the season is good for them. They deserve a good break.

“simple to work on “ is way understated and underappreciated these days. These Big Bud tractors will save your farm tens of thousands in service repair bills just because you can repair and maintain them yourself. I’m a huge fan of simple and doing my own mechanic work.

Hi guys. The KTTA 19 was developed in the late eighties and was marketed to replace the aging and not the greatest VTA 1710 engine and compete with the 3412 and 3508 cat along with the 12V92 Detroit.
The KTTA 19 had a maximum of 700hp. They are a great engine but on the limit somewhat particularly being a jacket water after cooled engine. Stretching a KTTA19 by increasing the fuel pressure to put out more than 700hp is asking for trouble. I have seen it a few times. You will know a KTTA 19 that is running hard as the top of the aftercooler will be discolored with a dark pinkish hue. So Nick no 800hp
The BMEP was close to the design limit of the power cylinder and there were improvements to the K series leading up to the KTTA 19 release including STC injectors. On this if you ever change the cylinder head gaskets, make sure your protrusions are in spec and you use the construction style head gasket.
The oil pan you have looks to be a 12.5 gallon cast aluminum piece. This is a good deal for the KTTA 19 @ 700HP as the shallow 10 gallon pan called for a large LF750A canister style bypass oil filter housing to increase the oil volume. Make sure you still run a LF777 remote bypass oil filter. They may of left this on the old machine
The KTTA 19 that we still get new out of the Seymour engine plant has a CPL 1253 and a fuel pump code of E790. This has been the same since the late 90's early 2000's Here are some of the codes below. I have a feeling you may have the E240 being an Auto transmission if you have a 1253 CPL
    E 240 700hp @ 2100 15% torque rise Automotive governor
    E 783 520hp @1800 5% torque rise VS governor
    E 784 650hp @ 2100 15% torque rise VS governor
    E 785 700hp @ 2100 15% torque rise VS governor with out check valves
    E 790 700hp @ 2100 15% torque rise VS governor with check valves
    E 813 600hp @1800 15% torque rise VS governor
Its great that these have been freshly rebuilt, however I would be cutting the oil filters open just to make sure there is no issues.
I can not wait to see this tractor running.

One question, I've seen a few kta19 engines turned to 800. What would need to be done to handle that hp? We don't want to do that but I'm just curious what it takes.

    • @sumpjunkie
      @sumpjunkie 2 місяці тому +4

Hi guys charge air cooling, larger gear pumps on the fuel pump, increase flow through the injectors and timing are all the things I have seen on juiced up kta 19 engines. You can get away with it in on highway trucks, however applications such as tractors that can spend quite a bit of time at full power will eat themselves up.
The k19 is unique in that it's a square engine, bore and the stroke is the same, unlike the c18 cat which is stroked. The k19 is an industrial engine unlike the c18 which originated from the c15. Huge difference in engines with a lot more spinning mass on the cummins.
This project is going to be awesome

Sweet! Reminds me of when i had to get a 3406b 425hp into a cat d8n due to its 3406c 285hp engine locking up from oil starvation. The modifying and swapping parts then seeing your own blood and sweat coming alive makes it all worth it. Keep up the great work!!

What a memory trip. I knew Mrs Marshburn when i was in high school 1968; she was an fine Christian elderly lady who let us hunt rabbits in her orange tree orchards . they also had a big carrot processing plant in Norwalk,Ca next to where I worked on heavy trucks. The history on your newrig would be so interesting, but now it will be a Welker Big Bud and farm the wide prairies

Nick and Scott, I wish you could feel the pure glee and joy I felt when I saw another Big Bud. When you had the episode where you lost the planetary I was thinking the very same thought, "Thy don't have enough redundancy of critical path equipment." Well clearly you guy were thinking about that too. What a wonderful project. I wonder if Case IH or Big Equipment might want to sponsor into this project to show off features of their equipment going into your "resto-mod". Case electronics would be super cool to see. Even a seat would be nice.

I am so excited to see another big bud on the farm!!!
Since you have 2 motors and transmissions and have the idea of the LSW 1400s. I think a good idea would be to put a motor in the new bud, replace the motor in the series 3 big bud 650. Then take the tires off the series 3 and put them on the new bud. Then put the LSW 1400s on the series 3 bud since it’s a more open fender design.
I really hope you guys see this comment and I’m so excited to see the upcoming videos!

Already 850 comments. Are we exicted?? Yes we are! The Big Buds were the reason i found you many years ago. Getting the 4-th and almost rebuild m will be even more exciting to watch. I"m sure you"re gonna make it something special. How does your kids look at it? Are they as excited as you are? I guess yah. See you smile tells me you 2 love to do it. Boys and their toys. You made me smile to again. I dont have to ask if dad love it. Think he"s the biggest Bud fan. See you with pleasure.

absolutely made out like bandits! lol that Cummins/Allison combo will be a solid choice. The only downfall to the PTO pads on the Allisons... or really any industrial transmission is the power draw capacity. Being an ag application it's not really an issue, but in O&G applications it was easy to try and draw too many ponies from the PTO pads.

You could use extra frame length, so maybe splitting the frame through the center line of the fenders and lengthen it 8” plus raising it 4”. We wanted another 4x4 so we did the same thing on a smaller scale. Repowered a Versatile 900 with a aftercooled 855 and sent it to the field for $4500. You are making great content with this build.

Would such a fun job to tackle. It’s a testament to the way the frame and rear ends were built that it will handle that much power. Way ahead of there time bud was

Awesome the new winter project beginning of another era for another big bud.
Good luck on your adventure and I’m sure you’ll get those little tiny tires to fit under those big fenders.

When you can't afford the new Bud you just have to make your own.
Awesome project you got yourself there, can't wait to see it come together!
And as a random side note. I would love to see you put a different more modern cab on it to give it that extra special touch. (That's very likely not going to happen but a man can dream 😄)

A series 2 cab and hood wouldn't be too hard to find and the cab would have so much more room.

@ isn't that a series 2? For me the rounded widows on the cab make it feel so old and crammed.

Thats going to be a sweet machine when you are done!, separate pumps for drill fans, implement lift and steering will be nice. Keep the seed runs from plugging when lifting and turning.
Put hydraulic drive reversing fans on the list!
710 hp on wheels instead of tracks will be nice for your dryer conditions.
If you need help with axle ratio change on those Clark rear ends let me know. I run a shop very similar to your transmission guy specializing in differentials and fuller transmissions.

Wow that was a great deal on the engines and transmissions.. This is going to be an awesome series to watch. Could you add in suspension for the front and rear axles. That alone would then drop the axle position. So cannot wait as I know your all going to make an awesome and beautiful job of this. Keep safe and well everyone :).
