    So what do you recommend for the main jet size wise? And then for the pilot? I’m having the same issue where it takes forever to start on a cold start and sometimes it shuts off on idle I have to remove the carb and clean it out but I want to upgrade the jets

      Stock pilot is 22.5 I bumped this one up to a 25.
      Stock main is a 130 I put in a 140, this machine has a pipe. Depends on your elevation but I’d at least do the 25 pilot whether you’re stock or not.

    Hey Dom, My quad stalls easily in first gear, It also sometimes shuts off when giving gas holding in the clutch. Could the carb be the issues or something else?

    • @dom_offroad
      @dom_offroad  5 місяців тому

      Sounds like clutch needs to be adjusted or clutch may be going bad. Shouldn’t stall with clutch lever pulled in.

    Ive got an 06 ltz400. It has a slip on exhaust and a k&n air filter. Ive tried a 27 and 25 pilot and it is still hard starting. Any help is appreciated.

      Check valve clearances. If it’s hard to start cold but starts easy hot, valve clearances are out.

      Need more info. What’s your mods? Fresh gas? Carb completely clean including the ports where the jets go? New spark plug and clean air filter? Also what’s your elevation where you live? I’m in Florida so we’re at sea levels if you’re above or below sea level your jetting may be slightly different

    Can you make a video adjusting the float mine spills so much gas when cranked or priming.

    • @dom_offroad
      @dom_offroad  3 місяці тому +1

      So to adjust the float height you just bend the metal tab up or down on the float. Bending up shuts the fuel off sooner (less fuel in bowl) bending down lets more fuel in bowl. Keep in mind, you may have a dirty or faulty needle. So even if the float height is set correctly if the needle is faulty it still won’t shut the fuel off so you might want to check that first. Also make sure your floats don’t have a crack or pin hole, shake them and make sure no fuel is inside, that will cause issues also by not shutting fuel off.

      @@dom_offroad so I just bought the bike and I turned it on when I got off work. The bike turned on fine. The fuel filter is full to the top. And it didn’t idle but 10-15 secs and the exhaust pipe exiting the engine got bright red. It idles pretty high. Im about to change the oil and clean the carburetor but any ideas on what’s going on ?

      @@josuefigueroa554 pull carb apart and clean, check what size jets are in it. If pipe is glowing it’s most likely running lean (not enough fuel) let me know what happens

      I’d say start with like a 135 and see how she runs. I’d still say bump up pilot to a 25 so it starts easier. If you have no airbox lid I’d say go to a 140 main like I did in the video.

    Ok NEVER use brake cleaner when cleaning a carburetor, NEVER use carburetor cleaning to clean brakes. Carburetor cleaning actually has a lubricant in it to help lubricate the parts before fuel gets in it. If used in brakes they will squeak and not stop correctly till its cooked off. Second take some rubber gloves, spray with both. The ones with brake clean will get twice the size and fall apart. Same happens to your o rings and seals. They are labeled brake, Carb, parts, Electrical cleaners ect. For a reason not to make you spend money's.

    • @dom_offroad
      @dom_offroad  4 місяці тому

      lol I use brake cleaner all the time on carbs never had an issue. Actually works better. Never have used carb cleaner on brakes though.

    • @rddowler211
      @rddowler211 4 місяці тому +1

      @dom_offroad2466 I'm glad to know you haven't had issues yet. Normally, the issue is when you don't replace the seals after cleaning. Brake cleaner has Methonal in it that is really bad for rubber, and most good brands of crab cleaner have some kind off lubricant that helps all the parts like the slide and help prevent buildup when fuel is left in them (that nasty brown from the ethanol content that gums them up). Honesty, try carb cleaner one time. But when I worked at a mechanic shop, you'd be amazed how many people did brakes and had carb cleaner at home and used it. They would complain about the noise. You can tell by the nice blue/rainbow color from the burnt oil on the rotors, lol. Yes you can get away with brake clean on your carbs but when you post it, if someone drenched or soaked thier carb and the seals swell and then say "you said it works fine" that could suck that's all. But honestly, spray some carb cleaner in a dry carb, and you'll notice the slide works smoother. But if it works for you all the power to you, keep up the good work.
